This paper studies the almost sure location of the eigenvalues of matrices ${\bf W}_N {\bf W}_N^{*}$ where ${\bf W}_N = ({\bf W}_N^{(1)T}, ..., {\bf W}_N^{(M)T})^{T}$ is a $ML \times N$ block-line matrix whose block-lines $({\bf W}_N^{(m)})_{m=1, ..., M}$ are independent identically distributed $L \times N$ Hankel matrices built from i.i.d. standard complex Gaussian sequences. It is shown that if $M \rightarrow +\infty$ and $\frac{ML}{N} \rightarrow c_*$ ($c_* \in (0, \infty)$), then the empirical eigenvalue distribution of ${\bf W}_N {\bf W}_N^{*}$ converges almost surely towards the Marcenko-Pastur distribution. More importantly, it is established that if $L = \mathcal{O}(N^α)$ with $α< 2/3$, then, almost surely, for $N$ large enough, the eigenvalues of ${\bf W}_N {\bf W}_N^{*}$ are located in the neighbourhood of the Marcenko-Pastur distribution.
Block Toeplitz and Hankel matrices arise in many aspects of applications. In this paper, we will research the distributions of eigenvalues for some models and get the semicircle law. Firstly we will give trace formulae of block Toeplitz and Hankel matrix. Then we will prove that the almost sure limit $γ_{_T}^{(m)}$ $(γ_{_H}^{(m)})$ of eigenvalue distributions of random block Toeplitz (Hankel) matrices exist and give the moments of the limit distributions where $m$ is the order of the blocks. Then we will prove the existence of almost sure limit of eigenvalue distributions of random block Toepl…
We consider an indexed class of real symmetric random matrices which generalize the symmetric Hankel and Reverse Circulant matrices. We show that the limiting spectral distributions of these matrices exist almost surely and the limit is continuous in the index. We also study other properties of the limit.
Consider the ensembles of real symmetric Toeplitz matrices and real symmetric Hankel matrices whose entries are i.i.d. random variables chosen from a fixed probability distribution p of mean 0, variance 1, and finite higher moments. Previous work on real symmetric Toeplitz matrices shows that the spectral measures, or densities of normalized eigenvalues, converge almost surely to a universal near-Gaussian distribution, while previous work on real symmetric Hankel matrices shows that the spectral measures converge almost surely to a universal non-unimodal distribution. Real symmetric Toeplitz m…
We study the limiting spectral measure of large symmetric random matrices of linear algebraic structure. For Hankel and Toeplitz matrices generated by i.i.d. random variables $\{X_k\}$ of unit variance, and for symmetric Markov matrices generated by i.i.d. random variables $\{X_{ij}\}_{j>i}$ of zero mean and unit variance, scaling the eigenvalues by $\sqrt{n}$ we prove the almost sure, weak convergence of the spectral measures to universal, nonrandom, symmetric distributions $γ_H$, $γ_M$ and $γ_T$ of unbounded support. The moments of $γ_H$ and $γ_T$ are the sum of volumes of solids related to …
We introduce a new matrix operation on a pair of matrices, $\text{swirl}(A,X),$ and discuss its implications on the limiting spectral distribution. In a special case, the resultant ensemble converges almost surely to the Rayleigh distribution. In proving this, we provide a novel combinatorial proof that the random matrix ensemble of circulant Hankel matrices converges almost surely to the Rayleigh distribution, using the method of moments.
Let $Q_n$ denote a random symmetric $n$ by $n$ matrix, whose upper diagonal entries are i.i.d. Bernoulli random variables (which take values 0 and 1 with probability 1/2). We prove that $Q_n$ is non-singular with probability $1-O(n^{-1/8+δ})$ for any fixed $δ> 0$. The proof uses a quadratic version of Littlewood-Offord type results concerning the concentration functions of random variables and can be extended for more general models of random matrices.
We study $n\times n$ Hankel determinants constructed with moments of a Hermite weight with a Fisher-Hartwig singularity on the real line. We consider the case when the singularity is in the bulk and is both of root-type and jump-type. We obtain large $n$ asymptotics for these Hankel determinants, and we observe a critical transition when the size of the jumps varies with $n$. These determinants arise in the thinning of the generalised Gaussian unitary ensembles and in the construction of special function solutions of the Painlevé IV equation.
Consider real symmetric, complex Hermitian Toeplitz and real symmetric Hankel band matrix models, where the bandwidth $b_{N}\ra \iy$ but $b_{N}/N \to b$, $b\in [0,1]$ as $N\to \infty$. We prove that the distributions of eigenvalues converge weakly to universal, symmetric distributions $γ_{_{T}}(b)$ and $γ_{_{H}}(b)$. In the case $b>0$ or $b=0$ but with the addition of $b_{N}\geq C N^{{1/2}+ε_{0}}$ for some positive constants $ε_{0}$ and $C$, we prove almost sure convergence. The even moments of these distributions are the sum of some integrals related to certain pair partitions. In particular,…
Let $M_γ$ be a subcritical Gaussian multiplicative chaos measure associated with a general log-correlated Gaussian field defined on a bounded domain $D \subset \mathbb{R}^d$, $d \geq 1$. We find an explicit formula for its singularity spectrum by showing that $M_γ$ satisfies almost surely the multifractal formalism, i.e., we prove that its singularity spectrum is almost surely equal to the Legendre-Fenchel transform of its $L^q$-spectrum. Then, applying this result, we compute the lower singularity spectrum of the multifractal random walk and of the Liouville Brownian motion.
Suppose $X_p$ is a real $p \times n$ matrix with independent entries and consider the (unscaled) sample covariance matrix $S_p=X_pX_p^T$. The Marchenko-Pastur law was discovered as the limit of the bulk distribution of the sample covariance matrix in 1967. There have been extensions of this result in several directions. In this paper, we consider an extension that handles several of the existing ones as well as generates new results. We show that under suitable assumptions on the entries of $X_p$, the limiting spectral distribution exists in probability or almost surely. The moments are descri…
Asymptotic behavior of the singular value decomposition (SVD) of blown up matrices and normalized blown up contingency tables exposed to Wigner-noise is investigated. It is proved that such an m\times n matrix almost surely has a constant number of large singular values (of order \sqrt{mn}), while the rest of the singular values are of order \sqrt{m+n} as m,n\to\infty. Concentration results of Alon et al. for the eigenvalues of large symmetric random matrices are adapted to the rectangular case, and on this basis, almost sure results for the singular values as well as for the corresponding isot…
The asymptotic behaviour of the distribution of the squared singular values of the sample autocovariance matrix between the past and the future of a high-dimensional complex Gaussian uncorrelated sequence is studied. Using Gaussian tools, it is established the distribution behaves as a deterministic probability measure whose support S is characterized. It is also established that the singular values to the square are almost surely located in a neighbourhood of S.
In this paper, we consider the singular values and singular vectors of finite, low rank perturbations of large rectangular random matrices. Specifically, we prove almost sure convergence of the extreme singular values and appropriate projections of the corresponding singular vectors of the perturbed matrix. As in the prequel, where we considered the eigenvalue aspect of the problem, the non-random limiting value is shown to depend explicitly on the limiting singular value distribution of the unperturbed matrix via an integral transforms that linearizes rectangular additive convolution in free …
Let $\{a_{ij}\}$ $(1\le i,j<\infty)$ be i.i.d. real valued random variables with zero mean and unit variance and let an integer sequence $(N_m)_{m=1}^\infty$ satisfy $m/N_m\longrightarrow z$ for some $z\in(0,1)$. For each $m\in{\mathbb N}$ denote by $A_m$ the $N_m\times m$ random matrix $(a_{ij})$ $(1\le i\le N_m,1\le j\le m)$ and let $s_{m}(A_m)$ be its smallest singular value. We prove that the sequence $\bigl({N_m}^{-1/2} s_{m}(A_m)\bigr)_{m=1}^\infty$ converges to $1-\sqrt{z}$ almost surely. Our result does not require boundedness of any moments of $a_{ij}$'s higher than the $2$-nd and res…
We prove the universal asymptotically almost sure non-singularity of general Ginibre and Wigner ensembles of random matrices when the distribution of the entries are independent but not necessarily identically distributed and may depend on the size of the matrix. These models include adjacency matrices of random graphs and also sparse, generalized, universal and banded random matrices. We find universal rates of convergence and precise estimates for the probability of singularity which depend only on the size of the biggest jump of the distribution functions governing the entries of the matrix…
We show that density functions of a $(α,1,β)$-superprocesses are almost sure multifractal for $α>β+1$, $β\in(0,1)$ and calculate the corresponding spectrum of singularities.
We study homogenization of iterated randomized singular integrals and homeomorphic solutions to the Beltrami differential equation with a random Beltrami coefficient. More precisely, let $(F_j)_{j \geq 1}$ be a sequence of normalized homeomorphic solutions to the planar Beltrami equation $\overline{\partial} F_j (z)=μ_j(z,ω) \partial F_j(z),$ where the random dilatation satisfies $|μ_j|\leq k<1$ and has locally periodic statistics, for example of the type $$μ_j (z,ω)=ϕ(z)\sum_{n\in \mathbf{Z}^2}g(2^j z-n,X_{n}(ω)), $$ where $g(z,ω)$ decays rapidly in $z$, the random variables $X_{n}$ are i.i.d…
By applying Rohlin's result on the classification of homomorphisms of Lebesgue space, the random inertial manifold of a stochastic damped nonlinear wave equations with singular perturbation is proved to be approximated almost surely by that of a stochastic nonlinear heat equation which is driven by a new Wiener process depending on the singular perturbation parameter. This approximation can be seen as the Smolukowski--Kramers approximation as time goes to infinity. However, as time goes infinity, the approximation changes with the small parameter, which is different from the approximation on a…
We study the singular values of certain triangular random matrices. When their elements are i.i.d. standard complex Gaussian random variables, the squares of the singular values form a biorthogonal ensemble, and with an appropriate change in the distribution of the diagonal elements, they give the biorthogonal Laguerre ensemble. For triangular Wigner matrices, we give alternative proofs for the convergence of the empirical distribution of the appropriately scaled squares of the singular eigenvalues to a distribution with support $[0, e]$, as well as for the almost sure convergence of the resca…
We prove that when suitably normalized, small enough powers of the absolute value of the characteristic polynomial of random Hermitian matrices, drawn from one-cut regular unitary invariant ensembles, converge in law to Gaussian multiplicative chaos measures. We prove this in the so-called $L^2$-phase of multiplicative chaos. Our main tools are asymptotics of Hankel determinants with Fisher-Hartwig singularities. Using Riemann-Hilbert methods, we prove a rather general Fisher-Hartwig formula for one-cut regular unitary invariant ensembles.
We calculate the almost sure Hausdorff dimension of the random covering set $\limsup_{n\to\infty}(g_n + ξ_n)$ in $d$-dimensional torus $\mathbb T^d$, where the sets $g_n\subset\mathbb T^d$ are parallelepipeds, or more generally, linear images of a set with nonempty interior, and $ξ_n\in\mathbb T^d$ are independent and uniformly distributed random points. The dimension formula, derived from the singular values of the linear mappings, holds provided that the sequences of the singular values are decreasing.
The goal of this article is to study how much the eigenvalues of large Hermitian random matrices deviate from certain deterministic locations -- or in other words, to investigate optimal rigidity estimates for the eigenvalues. We do this in the setting of one-cut regular unitary invariant ensembles of random Hermitian matrices -- the Gaussian Unitary Ensemble being the prime example of such an ensemble. Our approach to this question combines extreme value theory of log-correlated stochastic processes, and in particular the theory of multiplicative chaos, with asymptotic analysis of large Hanke…
We prove that the (non-symmetric) adjacency matrix of a uniform random $d$-regular directed graph on $n$ vertices is asymptotically almost surely invertible, assuming $\min(d,n-d)\ge C\log^2n$ for a sufficiently large constant $C>0$. The proof makes use of a coupling of random regular digraphs formed by "shuffling" the neighborhood of a pair of vertices, as well as concentration results for the distribution of edges recently obtained by the author (arXiv:1410.5595). We also apply our general approach to prove a.a.s.\ invertibility of Hadamard products $Σ\circ Ξ$, where $Ξ$ is a matrix of iid u…
We derive the limiting distribution of the barycenter $b_n$ of an i.i.d. sample of $n$ random points on a planar cone with angular spread larger than $2π$. There are three mutually exclusive possibilities: (i) (fully sticky case) after a finite random time the barycenter is almost surely at the origin; (ii) (partly sticky case) the limiting distribution of $\sqrt{n} b_n$ comprises a point mass at the origin, an open sector of a Gaussian, and the projection of a Gaussian to the sector's bounding rays; or (iii) (nonsticky case) the barycenter stays away from the origin and the renormalized fluct…
Let ${\pmb M}$, ${\pmb N}$ and ${\pmb K}$ be $d$-dimensional Riemann manifolds. Assume that ${\bf A}:=(A_n)_{n\in{\Bbb N}}$ is a sequence of Lebesgue measurable subsets of ${\pmb M}$ satisfying a necessary density condition and ${\bf x}:=(x_n)_{n\in {\Bbb N}}$ is a sequence of independent random variables which are distributed on ${\pmb K}$ according to a measure which is not purely singular with respect to the Riemann volume. We give a formula for the almost sure value of the Hausdorff dimension of random covering sets ${\bf E}({\bf x},{\bf A}):=\limsup_{n\to\infty}A_n(x_n)\subset {\pmb N}$. …
Relying on random matrix theory (RMT), this paper studies asymmetric order-$d$ spiked tensor models with Gaussian noise. Using the variational definition of the singular vectors and values of (Lim, 2005), we show that the analysis of the considered model boils down to the analysis of an equivalent spiked symmetric \textit{block-wise} random matrix, that is constructed from \textit{contractions} of the studied tensor with the singular vectors associated to its best rank-1 approximation. Our approach allows the exact characterization of the almost sure asymptotic singular value and alignments of…
