Combinatorial categorical equivalences of Dold-Kan type

备注:
We found a gap in the proof of Proposition 6.5 in version 4, which we have fixed with a new Assumption 2.6 in version 5. This holds in all our examples as shown in Proposition 2.9 of version 5. This new assumption is used only in the proof of what is now Theorem 6.5. Some other tidying up and minor corrections have also been made

We prove a class of equivalences of additive functor categories that are relevant to enumerative combinatorics, representation theory, and homotopy theory. Let $\mathscr{X}$ denote an additive category with finite direct sums and split idempotents. The class includes (a) the Dold-Puppe-Kan theorem that simplicial objects in $\mathscr{X}$ are equivalent to chain complexes in $\mathscr{X}$; (b) the observation of Church, Ellenberg and Farb that $\mathscr{X}$-valued species are equivalent to $\mathscr{X}$-valued functors from the category of finite sets and injective partial functions; (c) a result T. Pirashvili calls of "Dold-Kan type"; and so on. When $\mathscr{X}$ is semi-abelian, we prove the adjunction that was an equivalence is now at least monadic, in the spirit of a theorem of D. Bourn.
By using the Dold-Kan correspondence we construct a Quillen adjunction between the model categories of non-cocommutative coassociative simplicial and differential graded coalgebras over a field. We restrict to categories of connected coalgebras and prove a Quillen equivalence between them.
We establish a large class of homotopy coherent Morita-equivalences of Dold-Kan type relating diagrams with values in any weakly idempotent complete additive $\infty$-category; the guiding example is an $\infty$-categorical Dold-Kan correspondence between the $\infty$-categories of simplicial objects and connective coherent chain complexes. Our results generalize many known 1-categorical equivalences such as the classical Dold-Kan correspondence, Pirashvili's Dold-Kan type theorem for abelian $Γ$-groups and, more generally, the combinatorial categorical equivalences of Lack and Street.
In this work, we establish a categorification of the classical Dold-Kan correspondence in the form of an equivalence between suitably defined $\infty$-categories of simplicial stable $\infty$-categories and connective chain complexes of stable $\infty$-categories. The result may be regarded as a contribution to the foundations of an emerging subject that could be termed categorified homological algebra.
We study abelian group objects in $ω$-categories and discuss the well-known Dold-Kan correspondence from the perspective of $ω$-categories as a model for strict $\infty$-categories. The first part of the paper is intended to compile results from the existing literature and to fill some gaps therein. We go on to consider a parameterized Dold-Kan correspondence, i.e. a Dold-Kan correspondence for presheaves of $ω$-categories. The main result is to describe the descent or sheaf condition in terms of a glueing condition that is familiar for 1 and 2-stacks.
We introduce a bialgebra axiom for a pair $(c,\ell)$ of a colax-monoidal and a lax-monoidal structures on a functor $F\colon \mathscr{M}_1\to \mathscr{M}_2$ between two (strict) symmetric monoidal categories. This axiom can be regarded as a weakening of the property of $F$ to be a strict symmetric monoidal functor. We show that this axiom transforms well when passing to the adjoint functor or to the categories of monoids. Rather unexpectedly, this axiom holds for the Alexander-Whitney colax-monoidal and the Eilenberg-MacLane lax-monoidal structures on the normalized chain complex functor in th…
We show that weak monoidal Quillen equivalences induce equivalences of symmetric monoidal $\infty$-categories with respect to the Dwyer-Kan localization of the symmetric monoidal model categories. The result will induce a Dold-Kan correspondence of coalgebras in $\infty$-categories. Moreover, it shows that Shipley's zig-zag of Quillen equivalences lifts to an explicit symmetric monoidal equivalence of $\infty$-categories for the stable Dold-Kan correspondence. We study homotopy coherent coalgebras associated to a monoidal monoidal category. We show examples when these coalgebras cannot be rigi…
We thoroughly treat several familiar and less familiar definitions and results concerning categories, functors and distributors enriched in a base quantaloid Q. In analogy with V-category theory we discuss such things as adjoint functors, (pointwise) left Kan extensions, weighted (co)limits, presheaves and free (co)completion, Cauchy completion and Morita equivalence. With an appendix on the universality of the quantaloid Dist(Q) of Q-enriched categories and distributors.
Associated to each small category $C$, there is a category of $C$-shaped diagrams of simplicial sets and an $\infty$-category of $NC$-shaped homotopy coherent diagrams of spaces. We present a functor which exhibits the latter as the $\infty$-categorical localisation of the former at the objectwise weak homotopy equivalences. This builds on a Quillen equivalence between the projective and covariant model structures associated to $C$ due to Heuts-Moerdijk, as well as Cisinski's theory of $\infty$-categorical localisations. We use the localisation functor to give simplified proofs that the left (…
We provide, among other things: (i) a Bousfield--Kan formula for colimits in $\infty$-categories (generalizing the 1-categorical formula for a colimit as a coequalizer of maps between coproducts); (ii) $\infty$-categorical generalizations of Barwick--Kan's Theorem B$_n$ and Dwyer--Kan--Smith's Theorem C$_n$ (regarding homotopy pullbacks in the Thomason model structure, which themselves vastly generalize Quillen's Theorem B); and (iii) an articulation of the simultaneous and interwoven functoriality of colimits (or dually, of limits) for natural transformations and for pullback along maps of di…
Our aim is to compare three nerve functors for strict $n$-categories: the Street nerve, the cellular nerve and the multi-simplicial nerve. We show that these three functors are equivalent in some appropriate sense. In particular, the classes of $n$-categorical weak equivalences that they define coincide: they are the Thomason equivalences. We give two applications of this result: the first one states that a Dyer-Kan-type equivalence for Thomason equivalences is a Thomason equivalence; the second one, fundamental, is the stability of the class of Thomason equivalences under the dualities of the…
In this paper, we formalize precisely the sense in which the application of cellular automaton to partial configuration is a natural extension of its local transition function through the categorical notion of Kan extension. In fact, the two possible ways to do such an extension and the ingredients involved in their definition are related through Kan extensions in many ways. These relations provide additional links between computer science and category theory, and also give a new point of view on the famous Curtis-Hedlung theorem of cellular automata from the extended topological point of view…
Taking a Feynman categorical perspective, several key aspects of the geometry of surfaces are deduced from combinatorial constructions with graphs. This provides a direct route from combinatorics of graphs to string topology operations via topology, geometry and algebra. In particular, the inclusion of trees into graphs and the dissection of graphs into aggregates yield a concise formalism for cyclic and modular operads as well as their polycyclic and surface type generalizations. The latter occur prominently in two-dimensional topological field theory and in string topology. The categorical v…
We discuss various concepts of $\infty$-homotopies, as well as the relations between them (focussing on the Leibniz type). In particular $\infty$-$n$-homotopies appear as the $n$-simplices of the nerve of a complete Lie ${\infty}$-algebra. In the nilpotent case, this nerve is known to be a Kan complex \cite{Get09}. We argue that there is a quasi-category of $\infty$-algebras and show that for truncated $\infty$-algebras, i.e. categorified algebras, this $\infty$-categorical structure projects to a strict 2-categorical one. The paper contains a shortcut to $(\infty,1)$-categories, as well as a …
The most natural notion of a simplicial nerve for a (weak) bicategory was given by Duskin, who showed that a simplicial set is isomorphic to the nerve of a $(2,1)$-category (i.e. a bicategory with invertible $2$-morphisms) if and only if it is a quasicategory which has unique fillers for inner horns of dimension $3$ and greater. Using Duskin's technique, we show how his nerve applies to $(2,1)$-category functors, making it a fully faithful inclusion of $(2,1)$-categories into simplicial sets. Then we consider analogues of this extension of Duskin's result for several different two-dimensional …
In work of Fokkinga and Meertens a calculational approach to category theory is developed. The scheme has many merits, but sacrifices useful type information in the move to an equational style of reasoning. By contrast, traditional proofs by diagram pasting retain the vital type information, but poorly express the reasoning and development of categorical proofs. In order to combine the strengths of these two perspectives, we propose the use of string diagrams, common folklore in the category theory community, allowing us to retain the type information whilst pursuing a calculational form of pr…
Consider a diagram of quasi-categories that admit and functors that preserve limits or colimits of a fixed shape. We show that any weighted limit whose weight is a projective cofibrant simplicial functor is again a quasi-category admitting these (co)limits and that they are preserved by the functors in the limit cone. In particular, the Bousfield-Kan homotopy limit of a diagram of quasi-categories admit any limits or colimits existing in and preserved by the functors in that diagram. In previous work, we demonstrated that the quasi-category of algebras for a homotopy coherent monad could be de…
The goal of this work is to describe a categorical formalism for (Extended) Topological Quantum Field Theories (TQFTs) and present them as functors from a suitable category of cobordisms with corners to a linear category, generalizing 2d open-closed TQFTs to higher dimensions. The approach is based on the notion of an n-fold category by C. Ehresmann, weakened in the spirit of monoidal categories (associators, interchangers, Mac Lane's pentagons and hexagons), in contrast with the simplicial (weak Kan and complete Segal) approach of Jacob Lurie. We show how different Topological Quantum Field T…

We use the terms $\infty$-categories and $\infty$-functors to mean the objects and morphisms in an $\infty$-cosmos: a simplicially enriched category satisfying a few axioms, reminiscent of an enriched category of fibrant objects. Quasi-categories, Segal categories, complete Segal spaces, marked simplicial sets, iterated complete Segal spaces, $θ_n$-spaces, and fibered versions of each of these are all $\infty$-categories in this sense. Previous work in this series shows that the basic category theory of $\infty$-categories and $\infty$-functors can be developed only in reference to the axioms …
We use the terms "$\infty$-categories" and "$\infty$-functors" to mean the objects and morphisms in an "$\infty$-cosmos." Quasi-categories, Segal categories, complete Segal spaces, naturally marked simplicial sets, iterated complete Segal spaces, $θ_n$-spaces, and fibered versions of each of these are all $\infty$-categories in this sense. We show that the basic category theory of $\infty$-categories and $\infty$-functors can be developed from the axioms of an $\infty$-cosmos; indeed, most of the work is internal to a strict 2-category of $\infty$-categories, $\infty$-functors, and natural tra…
