We show that the relaxation dynamics near a glass transition with continuous ergodicity breaking can be endowed with a geometric interpretation based on percolation theory. At mean-field level this approach is consistent with the mode-coupling theory (MCT) of type-A liquid-glass transitions and allows to disentangle the universal and nonuniversal contributions to MCT relaxation exponents. Scaling predictions for the time correlation function are successfully tested in the F12 schematic model and facilitated spin systems on a Bethe lattice. Our approach immediately suggests the extension of MCT scaling laws to finite spatial dimensions and yields new predictions for dynamic relaxation exponents below an upper critical dimension of 6.
Despite a long history and a clear overall understanding of properties of random walks on an incipient infinite cluster in percolation, some important information on it seems to be missing in the literature. In the present work, we revisit the problem by performing massive numerical simulations for (sub)diffusion of particles on such clusters. Thus, we discuss the shape of the probability density function (PDF) of particles' displacements, and the way it converges to its long-time limiting scaling form. Moreover, we discuss the properties of the mean squared displacement (MSD) of a particle di…

Using three-dimensional representation of confluent cell layers, we map the amorphous solid to fluid phase transition in active cell layers onto the two-dimensional (2D) site percolation universality class. Importantly, we unify two distinct, predominant, pathways associated with this transition; namely (i) cell-cell adhesion and (ii) active traction forces. For each pathway, we independently vary the corresponding control parameter and focus on the emergent mechanical stress patterns as the monolayer transitions from a glassy- to a fluid-like state. Through finite-size scaling analyses, our r…
Theory for the single-particle dynamics in glassy mixtures with particle size swaps
本文提出了一个具有粒径交换的二元混合物单粒子动力学理论。该理论的一般结构遵循我们以前发展的具有颗粒尺寸交换的二元混合物中的集体动力学理论[G。Szamel,Phys. Rev. E 98,050601(R)(2018)]。
The random Lorentz gas (RLG) is a minimal model of transport in heterogeneous media. It also models the dynamics of a tracer in a glassy system. These two perspectives, however, are fundamentally inconsistent. Arrest in the former is related to percolation, and hence continuous, while glass-like arrest is discontinuous. In order to clarify the interplay between percolation and glassiness in the RLG, we consider its exact solution in the infinite-dimensional $d\rightarrow\infty$ limit, as well as numerics in $d=2\ldots 20$. We find that the mean field solutions of the RLG and glasses fall in th…

The complex dynamics of an increasing number of systems is attributed to the emergence of a rugged energy landscape with an exponential number of metastable states. To develop this picture into a predictive dynamical theory I discuss how to compute the exponentially small probability of a jump from one metastable state to another. This is expressed as a path integral that can be evaluated by saddle-point methods in mean-field models, leading to a boundary value problem. The resulting dynamical equations are solved numerically by means of a Newton-Krylov algorithm in the paradigmatic spherical …
Disorder-free localization is a novel mechanism for ergodicity breaking which can occur in interacting quantum many-body systems such as lattice gauge theories (LGTs). While the nature of the quantum localization transition (QLT) is still debated for conventional many-body localization, here we provide the first comprehensive characterization of the QLT in two dimensions (2D) for a disorder-free case. Disorder-free localization can appear in homogeneous 2D LGTs such as the U(1) quantum link model (QLM) due to an underlying classical percolation transition fragmenting the system into disconnect…
Spin glasses and many-body localization (MBL) are prime examples of ergodicity breaking, yet their physical origin is quite different: the former phase arises due to rugged classical energy landscape, while the latter is a quantum-interference effect. Here we study quantum dynamics of an isolated 1d spin-glass under application of a transverse field. At high energy densities, the system is ergodic, relaxing via resonance avalanche mechanism, that is also responsible for the destruction of MBL in non-glassy systems with power-law interactions. At low energy densities, the interaction-induced fi…
