Molecule-optimized basis sets, based on approximate natural orbitals, are developed for accelerating the convergence of quantum calculations with strongly correlated (multi-referenced) electrons. We use a low-cost approximate solution of the anti-Hermitian contracted Schr{ö}dinger equation (ACSE) for the one- and two-electron reduced density matrices (RDMs) to generate an approximate set of natural orbitals for strongly correlated quantum systems. The natural-orbital basis set is truncated to generate a molecule-optimized basis set whose rank matches that of a standard correlation-consistent basis set optimized for the atoms. We show that basis-set truncation by approximate natural orbitals can be viewed as a one-electron unitary transformation of the Hamiltonian operator and suggest an extension of approximate natural-orbital truncations through two-electron unitary transformations of the Hamiltonian operator, such as those employed in the solution of the ACSE. The molecule-optimized basis set from the ACSE improves the accuracy of the equivalent standard atom-optimized basis set at little additional computational cost. We illustrate the method with the potential energy curves of hydrogen fluoride and diatomic nitrogen. Relative to the hydrogen fluoride potential energy curve from the ACSE in a polarized triple-zeta basis set, the ACSE curve in a molecule-optimized basis set, equivalent in size to a polarized double-zeta basis, has a nonparallelity error of 0.0154 a.u. which is significantly better than the nonparallelity error of 0.0252 a.u. from the polarized double-zeta basis set.

We report on the largest dataset of optimized molecular geometries and electronic properties calculated by the PM6 method for 92.9% of the 91.2 million molecules cataloged in PubChem Compounds retrieved on Aug. 29, 2016. In addition to neutral states, we also calculated those for cationic, anionic, and spin flipped electronic states of 56.2%, 49.7%, and 41.3% of the molecules, respectively. Thus, the grand total calculated is 221 million molecules. The dataset is available at http://pubchemqc.riken.jp/pm6_dataset.html under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International license.
The quantum Drude oscillator (QDO) is an efficient yet accurate coarse-grained approach that has been widely used to model electronic and optical response properties of atoms and molecules, as well as polarization and dispersion interactions between them. Three effective parameters (frequency, mass, charge) fully characterize the QDO Hamiltonian and are adjusted to reproduce response properties. However, the soaring success of coupled QDOs for many-atom systems remains fundamentally unexplained and the optimal mapping between atoms/molecules and oscillators has not been established. Here, we p…
Feshbach-optimized photoassociation of ultracold $^6$Li$^{87}$Rb molecules with short pulses
Pulse flip angles are calculated for three wave mixing, three state cycles of chiral molecules to produce optimized free induction decay amplitudes proportional to the enantiomeric excess of a sample, and to produced optimized degree of state specific enantiomeric separation. These calculations account for the spatial degeneracy of the levels involved and the resulting inhomogeneous distribution of transition dipole moments. It is found that cycles of transitions that include R followed by Q followed by P branch transitions display only modest reductions of the calculated optimal signals if sp…
Parity-violating energies $E_{PV}$ of the $H_2X_2$ X = O, S, Se, Te, Po) molecules are reported, calculated as analytical expectation values at the relativistic coupled-cluster singles-and-doubles (CCSD) level using property-optimized basis sets. Radiative corrections to the $E_{PV}$ was investigated using effective QED-potentials and found to reach a maximal value of 2.38% for $H_2Po_2$ . However, this result depends on the choice of effective self-energy potential and may indicate limitations to their domain of validity.
Using the Gaussian-03 for ab initio calculations, interactions of various acid molecules with a single water molecule were studied. The molecular and supermolecular optimized structures were found with the Becke-3-Lee-Yang-Parr (B3LYP-hybrid potential) calculations of density- functional theory (DFT) methods, as well as the Møller-Plesset second-order perturbation theory using the basis set of aug-cc-pVDZ quality and the CRENBL ECP effective core potential for molecules containing heavy iodine atom. Possible isomers of studied acids and supermolecules consisting of acid molecules coupled with …
There are many ways to represent a molecule as input to a machine learning model and each is associated with loss and retention of certain kinds of information. In the interest of preserving three-dimensional spatial information, including bond angles and torsions, we have developed libmolgrid, a general-purpose library for representing three-dimensional molecules using multidimensional arrays. This library also provides functionality for composing batches of data suited to machine learning workflows, including data augmentation, class balancing, and example stratification according to a regre…
In the Noisy Intermediate-Scale Quantum (NISQ) era, solving the electronic structure problem from chemistry is considered as the "killer application" for near-term quantum devices. In spite of the success of variational hybrid quantum/classical algorithms in providing accurate energy profiles for small molecules, careful considerations are still required for the description of complicated features of potential energy surfaces. Because the current quantum resources are very limited, it is common to focus on a restricted part of the Hilbert space (determined by the set of active orbitals). While…
Perdew-Zunger self-interaction correction (PZ-SIC) offers a route to remove self-interaction errors on an orbital-by-orbital basis. A recent formulation of PZ-SIC by Pederson, Ruzsinszky and Perdew proposes restricting the unitary transformation to localized orbitals called Fermi-Löwdin orbitals. This formulation, called the FLOSIC method, simplifies PZ-SIC calculations and was implemented self-consistently using a Jacobi-like (FLOSIC-Jacobi) iteration scheme. In this work we implement the FLOSIC approach using the Krieger-Li-Iafrate (KLI) approximation to the optimized effective potential (OE…
The requirement for accelerated and quantitatively accurate screening of nuclear magnetic resonance spectra across the small molecules chemical compound space is two-fold: (1) a robust `local' machine learning (ML) strategy capturing the effect of neighbourhood on an atom's `near-sighted' property -- chemical shielding; (2) an accurate reference dataset generated with a state-of-the-art first principles method for training. Herein we report the QM9-NMR dataset comprising isotropic shielding of over 0.8 million C atoms in 134k molecules of the QM9 dataset in gas and five common solvent phases. …
