$α$ decay is treated microscopically, where the unstable mother nucleus and residual daughter nucleus are described using HFB wave functions, obtained with the Skyrme effective interaction. From these wave functions the amplitude for forming $α$ particles in the mother nucleus is computed. Two different Skyrme parametrizations with different pairing properties are compared, and we find good agreement with experiment for relative decay rates in both cases. The absolute values of the decay rates are under-estimated.
We report on cranked Skyrme-HFB calculations of rotational bands of the octupole-deformed nucleus $^{222}$Th. A sudden change in configuration is observed, with the shape of the yrast state jumping from large octupole deformation at low spin to small octupole deformation at high spin.
Background: The symmetry-unrestricted Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov (HFB) simulation is important for describing various quantum many-body systems. However, the HFB problem in Cartesian coordinate space is numerically challenging. Purpose: For describing ground states without imposing axial symmetry and looking ahead to future extension for dynamics with full time dependence, we present a numerically efficient implementation of the three-dimensional (3D) HFB code. Methods: We develop a 3D Skyrme HFB code based on the mixed-basis representation (HFBmix) which consists of two harmonic-oscillator (HO) …

Axially deformed solution of the Skyrme-Hartree-Fock-Bogolyubov equations using the transformed harmonic oscillator basis (III) hfbtho (v3.00): a new version of the program
We study the nuclear properties of even-even superheavy $Z$=120 isotopes and $N$=184 isotones with the Skyrme Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov (HFB)approach. Within this model we examine the deformation energy surfaces and two paths to fission: a reflection-symmetric path with elongated fission fragments (sEF) and a reflection-asymmetric path corresponding to elongated fission fragments (aEF). Furthermore, we explore the energy surfaces in the region of very large oblate deformations with toroidal nuclear density distributions. While the energy surfaces of toroidal $Z$=120 isotopes and $N$=184 isotones…

A systematic study of the ground state properties of transitional nuclei W, Os and Pt is conducted with the help of Skyrme Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov theory. Different Skyrme interactions are employed in the study. Two different bases, harmonic oscillator and transformed harmonic oscillator, are used in our investigation. 2n-separation energy, charge radii, neutron and proton rms radii, neutron skin thickness and deformation parameter have been estimated. The results obtained are in good agreement with the available experimental values.
Valuable theoretical predictions of nuclear dipole excitations in the whole nuclear chart are of great interest for different applications, including in particular nuclear astrophysics. We present here the systematic study of the electric dipole (E1) photon strength functions (PSFs) combining the microscopic Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov plus Quasiparticle Random Phase Approximation (HFB+QRPA) model and the parametrizations constrained by the available experimental giant dipole resonance (GDR) data. For about 10000 nuclei with 8<Z<124 lying between the proton and the neutron drip-lines on nuclear ch…

The feasibility of alpha and cluster decay from Pt isotopes has been investigated within the framework of Skyrme Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov theory. Calculation has been carried out for various Skyrme forces. Harmonic oscillator and transformed harmonic oscillator basis are used to solve HFB equations. The role played by shell closure is withal analysed. Half-lives are estimated with the help of Universal Decay Law (UDL). Geiger-Nuttel plots are also plotted and successfully preserves its linear nature.

We show that the Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov (HFB) method is able to describe experimental values of alpha decay widths by including a residual nucleon-nucleon Surface Gaussian Interaction (SGI) within the standard procedure used to calculate the nuclear mean field. We call this method the Cluster HFB (CHFB) approach. In this way we correct the deficient asymptotic behaviour of the corresponding single-particle (sp) wave functions generated by the standard mean field. The corrected mean field becomes a sum between the standard mean Woods-Saxon-like field and a cluster Gaussian component centered a…
To search for new candidates of the true and simultaneous two-proton ($2p$) radioactivity, the $2p$ decay energies (\textit{Q}$_{2p}$) are extracted by the Weizsäcker-Skyrme-4 (WS4) model, the finite-range droplet model (FRDM), the Kourra-Tachibaba-Uno-Yamada (KTUY) model and the Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov mean-field model with the BSk29 Skyrme interaction (HFB29). Then, the $2p$ radioactivity half-lives are calculated within the generalized liquid drop model (GLDM) by inputting the four types of \textit{Q}$_{2p}$ values. By the energy and half-life constraints, it is found that the probable $2p$…
Ground-state properties of finite drops of alpha particles (Q-balls) are studied within a field-theoretical approach in the mean-field approximation. The strong interaction of alphas is described by the scalar field with a sextic Skyrme-like potential. The radial profiles of scalar- and Coulomb fields are found by solving the coupled system of Klein-Gordon and Poisson equations. The formation of shell-like nuclei, with vanishing density around the center, is predicted at high enough attractive strength of Skyrme potential. The equilibrium values of energy and baryon number of Q-balls and Q-she…
The $2νββ$-decay nuclear matrix elements (NMEs) for 11 nuclei are studied with the self-consistent quasiparticle random phase approximation (QRPA) based on Skyrme Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov (Skyrme HFB) model. As a common feature pointed out in https://journals.aps.org/prc/abstract/10.1103/PhysRevC.98.064325 Phys. Rev. C 98, 064325 (2018), negative contributions in the running sums of NMEs are found, and play important roles in the fulfillment of the single-state dominance or low-lying-states dominance hypothesis. By comparing the results of QRPA model and quasiparticle Tamm-Dancoff approximation…
The Coulomb effect, an essential ingredient in nuclear systems, is quantitatively investigated for certain Skyrmions within the Skyrme model. To do this we calculate the Coulomb energy from numerically generated multi-Skyrmions and, simultaneously, introduce an effective alpha-like particle approximation for large Skyrmions with baryon number $B$, where $B$ is a multiple of four. The calculated Coulomb energies and the corresponding fitted curve from this approximation match well with the results from the numerical method, as well as the behavior of the Coulomb energy in the semi-empirical mas…
The equation of state and phase diagram of strongly interacting matter composed of $α$ particles are studied in the mean-field approximation. The particle interactions are included via a Skyrme-like mean field, containing both attractive and repulsive terms. The model parameters are found by fitting known values of binding energy and baryon density in the ground state of $α$ matter, obtained from microscopic calculations by Clark and Wang. Thermodynamic quantities of $α$ matter are calculated in the broad domains of temperature and baryon density, which can be reached in heavy-ion collisions a…
Alpha and cluster decay half lives for W isotopes in the range between 2p drip line and beta stability line are studied. The sensitivity of different Skyrme parametrizations in predicting the alpha decay and probable cluster decay modes from W isotopes have been analysed. The half lives are calculated using UDL. Predicted half lives are compared with ELDM and also with available experimental values. The study also revealed the role of neutron shell closure in cluster decay process.
Alpha-decay energies for several chains of super-heavy nuclei are calculated within the self-consistent mean-field approach by using the Fayans functional FaNDF$^0$. They are compared to the experimental data and predictions of two Skyrme functionals, SLy4 and SkM*, and of the macro-micro method as well. The corresponding lifetimes are calculated with the use of the semi-phenomenological formulas by Parkhomenko and Sobiczewski and by Royer and Zhang.
The competition between alpha- and beta+/EC-decay modes is studied systematically in nuclei along the alpha-decay chains following the synthesis of superheavy nuclei with Z = 119 and Z = 120. A microscopic approach based on deformed self-consistent Hartree-Fock mean-field calculations with Skyrme forces and pairing correlations is used to describe the beta+ and electron capture weak decays, whereas the alpha-decay is estimated from existing phenomenological expressions. It is shown that alpha-decay is in most cases the dominant decay mode, but interesting instances are identified where the hal…
The phase diagram of isospin-symmetric chemically equilibrated mixture of alpha particles and nucleons is studied in the mean-field approximation. Skyrme-like parametrization is used for the mean-field potentials as functions of partial densities of nucleons and alphas. We find that there is a threshold value a* of the parameter a(N-alpha) which describes the attractive interaction between alpha-particles and nucleons. At a(N-alpha)<a* the ground state of nuclear matter at zero temperature behaves as a pure system of interacting nucleons, whereas at a(N-alpha)>a* the nuclear ground state inclu…
The equation of state and phase diagram of isospin-symmetric chemically equilibrated mixture of alpha particles and nucleons are studied in the mean-field approximation. The model takes into account the effects of Fermi and Bose statistics for nucleons and alphas, respectively. We use Skyrme-like parametrization of the mean-field potentials as functions of partial densities, which contain both attractive and repulsive terms. Parameters of these potentials are chosen by fitting known properties of pure nucleon- and pure alpha matter at zero temperature. The sensitivity of results to the choice …
Weak decays in heavy nuclei with charge numbers Z=101-109 are studied within a microscopic formalism based on deformed self-consistent Skyrme Hartree-Fock mean-field calculations with pairing correlations. The half-lives of beta+ decay and electron capture are compared with alpha-decay half-lives obtained from phenomenological formulas. Transfermium isotopes of Md, No, Lr, Rf, Db, Sg, Bh, Hs, and Mt that can be produced in the frontier of cold and hot fusion-evaporation channels are considered. Several isotopes are identified whose beta+/EC- and alpha-decay half-lives are comparable. The compe…
We introduce a new model for the Carbon-12 nucleus and compute its lowest energy levels. Our model is inspired by previous work on the rigid body approximation in the $B=12$ sector of the Skyrme model. We go beyond this approximation and treat the nucleus as a deformable body, finding several new states. A restricted set of deformations is considered, leading to a configuration space $\mathcal{C}$ which has a graph-like structure. We use ideas from quantum graph theory in order to make sense of quantum mechanics on $\mathcal{C}$ even though it is not a manifold. This is a new approach to Skyrm…
Weak decays in superheavy nuclei with proton numbers Z = 118 - 120 and neutron numbers N = 175 - 184 are studied within a microscopic formalism based on deformed self-consistent Skyrme Hartree-Fock mean-field calculations with pairing correlations. The half-lives of beta+ decay and electron capture are compared with alpha-decay half-lives obtained from phenomenological formulas. The sensitivity of the half-lives to the unknown Q-energies is studied by comparing the results obtained from different approaches for the masses. It is shown that alpha-decay is always dominant in this mass region. Th…
New superheavy nuclei are often identified through their characteristic $α$-decay energies, which requires accurate calculations of $Q_α$ values. While many $Q_α$ predictions are available, little is known about their uncertainties, and this makes it difficult to carry out extrapolations to yet-unknown systems. This work aims to analyze several models, compare their predictions to available experimental data, and study their performance for the unobserved $α$-decay chains of $^{296}$120 and $^{298}$120, which are of current experimental interest. Our quantified results will also serve as a ben…
