We investigate the thermal effects on the sudden changes and freezing of the quantum and classical correlations of remote qubits in a cavity quantum electrodynamics (CQED) network with losses. We find that the detrimental effect of the thermal reservoirs on the system can be compensated via an efficient coupling of the fiber connecting the two cavities of the system. Furthermore, for certain initial conditions, we find a double sudden transitions in the dynamics of Bures geometrical quantum discord. The second transition tends to disappear at a critical temperature, hence freezing the discord. Finally, we discuss some ideas of the experimental realization of the present proposal.
Within the one-excitation context of two identical two-level atoms interacting with a common cavity, we examine the dynamics of all bipartite one-to-other entanglements between each qubit and the remaining part of the whole system. We find a new non-analytic "sudden" dynamical behavior of entanglement. Specifically, the sum of the three one-to-other entanglements of the system can be suddenly frozen at its maximal value or can be suddenly thawed from this value in a periodic manner. We calculate the onset timing of sudden freezing and sudden thawing under several different initial conditions. …
We present a scheme to control the entanglement sudden birth and death in cavity quantum electrodynamics system, which consists of two noninteracting atoms each locally interacting with its own vacuum field, by applying and adjusting classical driving fields.
We study the entanglement dynamics of strongly driven atoms off-resonantly coupled with cavity fields. We consider conditions characterized not only by the atom-field coupling but also by the atom-field detuning. By studying two different models within the framework of cavity QED, we show that the so-called atomic entanglement sudden death (ESD) always occurs if the atom-field coupling lager than the atom-field detuning, and is independent of the type of initial atomic state.
General quantum correlations measures like quantum discord, one norm geometric quantum discord, exhibit freezing, sudden change, double sudden change behavior in their decay rates under different noisy channels. Therefore, one may attempt to investigate how the freezing behavior and other dynamical features are affected under application of local quantum operations. In this work, we demonstrate the effect of local filtering on the dynamical evolution of quantum correlations. We have found that using local filtering one may remove freezing depending upon the filtering parameter.
We investigate the entanglement dynamics of a quantum system consisting of two-level atoms interacting with vacuum or thermal fields with classical driving fields. We find that the entanglement of the system can be improved by adjusting the classical driving field. The influence of the classical field and the purity of the initial state on the entanglement sudden death is also studied. It is shown that the time of entanglement sudden death can be controlled by the classical driving fields. Particularly, the entanglement sudden death phenomenon will disappear if the classical driving fields are…
We investigate the phenomenon of sudden transition between classical and quantum decoherence in the study of quantum discord for a dissipative cavity QED system, which consists of two noninteracting two-level atoms, each trapped in a dissipative cavity. It is found that the quantum discord between two atoms, which are prepared initially in the X-type quantum states, is not destroyed by the dissipation of the cavities for a finite time interval and the stationary quantum discord can arise in the interaction of atoms with cavities as the time approach to infinite. The transition time is sensitiv…
We explore the dynamics of the entanglement in a semiconductor cavity QED containing a quantum well. We show the presence of sudden birth and sudden death for some particular sets of the system parameters.
We present a Review of the dynamical features such as generation, propagation, distribution, sudden transition and freezing of the various quantum correlation measures, as Concurrence, Entanglement of Formation, Quantum Discord, as well their geometrical measure counterparts within the models of Cavity Quantum Electrodynamics Networks. Dissipation and thermal effects are discussed both in the generation of quantum correlations as well as their effect on the sudden changes and freezing of the classical and quantum correlations in a cavity quantum electrodynamical network. For certain initial co…
Superconducting qubits connected in an array can form quantum many-body systems such as the quantum Ising model. By coupling the qubits to a superconducting resonator, the combined system forms a circuit QED system. Here, we study the nonlinear behavior in the many-body state of the qubit array using a semiclassical approach. We show that sudden switchings as well as a bistable regime between the ferromagnetic phase and the paramagnetic phase can be observed in the qubit array. A superconducting circuit to implement this system is presented with realistic parameters .
We investigate the exact dynamics of trace distance discord by considering two qubits under dephasing whose states belong to a class of $X$ states beyond Bell diagonal form. The necessary condition for the occurrence of freezing trace distance discord is found and compared with that of entropic discord. For an illustration, we consider two interacting qubits coupled to independent reservoirs and demonstrate these dynamical properties of trace distance discord. It is interesting to find that the freezing trace distance discord exists even for $X$ states without maximally mixed marginals and can…
We study the dynamics of quantum and classical correlations in a two-qutrit system coupled to independent reservoirs. In particular, we addressed the differences in the dynamics of Markovian and non-Markovian regimes and show that for specific initial states, classical correlations exhibit abrupt changes along the dynamics. A particular sudden change occurs when the classical correlations freezes to a certain value at a given time, revealing the apparition of a pointer-state basis. After this given time, the decoherence only affects quantum correlations. Here we identify two regimes in the dec…
The discovery of the intriguing phenomenon that certain kinds of quantum correlations remain impervious to noise up to a specific point in time and then suddenly decay, has generated immense recent interest. We exploit dynamical decoupling sequences to prolong the persistence of time-invariant quantum discord in a system of two NMR qubits decohering in independent dephasing environments. We experimentally prepare two-qubit Bell-diagonal quantum states that interact with individual dephasing channels and demonstrate the effect of dynamical decoupling on the preservation of both quantum and clas…
The Landau levels of scalar QED undergo continuous transitions under a homogeneous, time-dependent magnetic field. We analytically formulate the Klein-Gordon equation for a charged spinless scalar as a Cauchy initial value problem in the two-component first order formalism and then put forth a measure that classifies the quantum motions into the adiabatic change, the nonadiabatic change, and the sudden change. We find the exact quantum motion and calculate the pair-production rate when the magnetic field suddenly changes as a step function.
The number of atoms trapped within the mode of an optical cavity is determined in real time by monitoring the transmission of a weak probe beam. Continuous observation of atom number is accomplished in the strong coupling regime of cavity quantum electrodynamics and functions in concert with a cooling scheme for radial atomic motion. The probe transmission exhibits sudden steps from one plateau to the next in response to the time evolution of the intracavity atom number, from N >= 3 to N = 2 to 1 to 0, with some trapping events lasting over 1 second.
We describe the transfer of quantum information and entanglement from three flying (radiation) to three localized (atomic) qubits via cavity modes resonantly coupled to the atoms, in the presence of a common reservoir. Upon addressing the full dynamics of the resulting nine-qubit open system, we find that once the cavities are fed, fidelity and transferred entanglement are optimal, while their peak values exponentially decrease due to dissipative processes. The external radiation is then turned off and quantum correlations oscillate between atomic and cavity qubits. For a class of mixtures of …
An experimental scheme is suggested that permits a direct measure of entanglement in a two-qubit cavity system. It is realized in the cavity-QED technology utilizing atoms as flying qubits. With this scheme we generate two different measures of entanglement, namely logarithmic negativity and concurrence. The phenomenon of sudden death entanglement (ESD) in a bipartite system subjected to dissipative environment is examined. We show that the sudden death time of the entangled states depends on the initial preparation of the entangled state and the temperature of the reservoir.
We extend Schwinger's ideas regarding sonoluminescence by explicitly calculating the Bogolubov coefficients relating the QED vacuum states associated with changes in a dielectric bubble. Sudden (non-adiabatic) changes in the refractive index lead to an efficient production of real photons with a broadband spectrum, and a high-frequency cutoff that arises from the asymptotic behaviour of the dielectric constant.
Geometric quantum discord is a well-defined measure of quantum correlation if Schatten 1-norm (trace norm) is adopted as a distance measure. Here, we analytically investigate the dynamical behavior of the 1-norm geometric quantum discord under the effect of decoherence. By starting from arbitrary Bell-diagonal mixed states under Markovian local noise, we provide the decays of the quantum correlation as a function of the decoherence parameters. In particular, we show that the 1-norm geometric discord exhibits the possibility of double sudden changes and freezing behavior during its evolution. F…
Entanglement plays a crucial role in quantum information protocols, thus the dynamical behavior of entangled states is of a great importance. In this paper we suggest a useful scheme that permits a direct measure of entanglement in a two-qubit cavity system. It is realized in the cavity-QED technology utilizing atoms as fying qubits. To quantify entanglement we use the concurrence. We derive the conditions, which assure that the state remains entangled in spite of the interaction with the reservoir. The phenomenon of sudden death entanglement (ESD) in a bipartite system subjected to squeezed v…
Several years ago Schwinger proposed a physical mechanism for sonoluminescence in terms of photon production due to changes in the properties of the quantum-electrodynamic (QED) vacuum arising from a collapsing dielectric bubble. This mechanism can be re-phrased in terms of the Casimir effect and has recently been the subject of considerable controversy. The present paper probes Schwinger's suggestion in detail: Using the sudden approximation we calculate Bogolubov coefficients relating the QED vacuum in the presence of the expanded bubble to that in the presence of the collapsed bubble. In th…
The dynamics of entanglement and quantum discord for qubit-qutrit systems are studied in the presence of phase damping and amplitude damping noises. Both one way and two couplings of the marginal systems with the environments are considered. Entanglement sudden death is unavoidable under any setup, however, the required time span depends on the way of coupling. On the other hand, the dynamics of quantum discord strongly depends both on the nature of environment and on the number of dimensions of the Hilbert space of the coupled marginal system. We show that freezing and invariance of quantum d…
In a companion paper [quant-ph/9904013] we have investigated several variations of Schwinger's proposed mechanism for sonoluminescence. We demonstrated that any realistic version of Schwinger's mechanism must depend on extremely rapid (femtosecond) changes in refractive index, and discussed ways in which this might be physically plausible. To keep that discussion tractable, the technical computations in that paper were limited to the case of a homogeneous dielectric medium. In this paper we investigate the additional complications introduced by finite-volume effects. The basic physical scenari…
We investigate the dynamical evolution of multipartite entanglement in tripartite systems with three qubits present in independent thermal reservoirs, modelled as infinite set of quantum harmonic oscillators. We show that the presence of temperature gradient between reservoirs play a significant role in robustness of multipartite correlation against environmental decoherence. Considering a bilinear form of interaction Hamiltonian, an exact expression for time evolved density matrix is presented. Interestingly, it is observed that the preservation duration of genuine multipartite concurrence fo…
We investigate first- and second-order quantum phase transitions of the anisotropic quantum Rabi model, in which the rotating- and counter-rotating terms are allowed to have different coupling strength. The model interpolates between two known limits with distinct universal properties. Through a combination of analytic and numerical approaches we extract the phase diagram, scaling functions, and critical exponents, which allows us to establish that the universality class at finite? anisotropy is the same as the isotropic limit. We also reveal other interesting features, including a superradian…
We theoretically investigate how the initial state influence the entanglement dynamics between two and three two-level atoms with dipole-dipole interaction (DDI) coupled to a whispering-gallery-mode (WGM) microtoroidal cavity. Two different cases, where the two atoms are coupled symmetrically or asymmetrically to the two WGMs through evanescent fields, are discussed in detail. Considering two types of initial states between the atoms and the symmetric regime, we show that for the initial entangled state, the sudden death and birth, as well as the freezing of the entanglement, can be obtained b…

Photonic states of superconducting microwave cavities controlled by transmon ancillas provide a platform for encoding and manipulating quantum information. A key challenge in scaling up the platform is the requirement to communicate on demand the information between the cavities. It has been recently demonstrated that a tunable bilinear interaction between two cavities can be realized by coupling them to a bichromatically-driven transmon ancilla, which allows swapping and interfering the multi-photon states of the cavities [Gao et al., Phys. Rev. X 8, 021073(2018)]. Here, we explore both theor…
We consider a generalized double Jaynes-Cummings model consisting of two isolated two-level atoms, each contained in a lossless cavity, with the cavities interacting with each other through a controlled photon hopping mechanism. The temporal dynamics of entanglement between the two atoms, as the atom-cavity system evolves with time, is investigated for different values of the mediated cavity-cavity interaction. We analytically show that at low values of such an interaction, entanglement between the atoms evolves under the effects of cavity perturbation and exhibits the well-known phenomenon of…
In this note we report on some new results \cite{SHP} on corrections to the Casimir-Polder \cite{caspol} retardation force due to atomic motion and present a preliminary (unpublished) critique on one recently proposed cavity QED detection scheme of Unruh effect \cite{Unr76}. These two well-known effects arise from the interaction between a moving atom or detector with a quantum field under some boundary conditions introduced by a conducting mirror/cavity or dielectric wall. The Casimir-Polder force is a retardation force on the atom due to the dressing of the atomic ground state by the vacuum …
