We investigate the modification to Einstein's vacuum field equations which is imposed by string theory when the dilaton field is ignored. Including the cosmological constant in all calculations, we prove that such a theory of gravity admits no static isotropic solution. We then show that any isotropic solution of the equations in question must necessarily be static, therefore proving that no isotropic solution exists for this stringy modification to gravity.
We study the corrections to the entropy of Einstein-Maxwell dilaton-axion black holes beyond semiclassical approximations. We consider the entropy of the black hole as a state variable and derive these corrections using the exactness criteria of the first law of thermodynamics. We note that from this general frame-work the entropy corrections for "simpler" black holes like Schwarzschild, Reissner-Nordström and anti-de Sitter-Schwarzschild black holes follow easily. This procedure gives us the modified area law as well.
In the present paper we investigate the general problem of uniqueness of the stationary black solutions in 5D Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton gravity with arbitrary dilaton coupling parameter containing the Einstein-Maxwell gravity as a particular case. We formulate and prove uniqueness theorems classifying the stationary black hole solutions in terms of their interval structure, electric and magnetic charges and the magnetic fluxes. The proofs are based on the nonpositivity of the Riemann curvature operator on the space of the potentials which imposes restrictions on the dilaton coupling parameter.
We discuss the asymptotic form of the static axially symmetric, globally regular and black hole solutions, obtained recently in Einstein-Yang-Mills and Einstein-Yang-Mills-dilaton theory.
Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity coupled to a dynamical dilaton is examined from the viewpoint of Einstein's equivalence principle. We point out that the usual frame change that applies to the action without curvature correction does not cure the problem of nonminimal couplings by the dynamical nature of a dilaton field. Thus a modification of the Einstein frame is required. It is proposed that the kinetic term of a dilaton should be brought to a canonical form, which completely fixes the additional terms associated with the frame transformation.
We presented the proof of the positive mass theorem for black holes in Einstein-Maxwell axion-dilaton gravity being the low-energy limit of the heterotic string theory. We show that the total mass of a spacetime containing a black hole is greater or equal to the square root of the sum of squares of the adequate dilaton-electric and dilaton-axion charges.
The uniqueness of static asymptotically flat photon sphere for static black hole solution in Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton theory with arbitrary coupling constant was proposed. Using the conformal positive energy theorem we show that the dilaton sphere subject to the non-extremality condition authorizes a cylinder over a topological sphere.
A class of time dependent solutions to $(3+1)$ Einstein--Maxwell-dilaton theory with attractive electric force is found from Einstein--Weyl structures in (2+1) dimensions corresponding to dispersionless Kadomtsev--Petviashvili and $SU(\infty)$ Toda equations. These solutions are obtained from time--like Kaluza--Klein reductions of $(3+2)$ solitons.
We construct static axially symmetric solutions of SU(2) Einstein-Yang-Mills-dilaton theory. Like their spherically symmetric counterparts, these solutions are nonsingular and asymptotically flat. The solutions are characterized by the winding number n and the node number k of the gauge field functions. For fixed n with increasing k the solutions tend to ``extremal'' Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton black holes with n units of magnetic charge.
The uniqueness of static spherically symmetric traversable wormholes with two asymptotically flat ends, subject to the higher-dimensional solutions of Einstein-Maxwell-phantom dilaton field equations was proved. We considered the case of an arbitrary dilaton coupling constant. Conformal positive energy theorem plays the key role in the considerations.
In the present paper we consider 5D spacetimes satisfying the Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton gravity equations which are $U(1)^2$ axisymmetric but otherwise highly dynamical. We derive inequalities between the area, the angular momenta, the electric charge and the magnetic fluxes for any smooth stably outer marginally trapped surface.
We prove the uniqueness theorem for stationary axisymmetric black hole solution in Einstein-Maxwell-axion-dilaton gravity being the low-energy limit of the heterotic string theory. We consider both non-degenerate and extremal Kerr-Sen black hole solutions.
We present a class of graviton-dilaton models in which a homogeneous isotropic universe, such as our observed one, evolves with no singularity at any time. Such models may stand on their own as interesting models for singularity free cosmology, and may be studied further accordingly. They may also arise from string theory. We discuss critically a few such possibilities.
Depending on five parameters, rotating counterparts of Einstein--Maxwell--dilaton black holes are derived. We discuss their physical and geometric properties and investigate their null and time-like geodesics including circular orbits. The Lense--Thirring effect is considered.
We examine cancellation of long-range forces in Einstein-Maxwell-Dilatonic system. Several conditions of the equilibrium of two charged masses in general relativity is found by many authors. These conditions are altered by taking account of dilatonic field. Under the new condition, we show cancellation of $1/r^2$ potential using Feynman diagrams.
We consider the problem for the classification of static and asymptotically flat Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton spacetimes with a photon sphere. It is first proven that the photon spheres in Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton gravity have constant mean and constant scalar curvature. Then we derive some relations between the mean curvature and the physical characteristics of the photon spheres. Using further the symmetries of the dimensionally reduced Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton field equations we show that the lapse function, the electrostatic potential and the dilaton field are functionally dependent in the pre…
We present arguments for the existence of a new type of solutions of the Euclidean Einstein-Yang-Mills-dilaton theory in $d=4$ dimensions. Possesing nonvanishing nonabelian charges, these nonselfdual configurations have no counterparts on the Lorentzian section. They provide, however, new saddle points in the Euclidean path integral.
We proved that strictly stationary Einstein-Maxwell-axion-dilaton spacetime with negative cosmological constant could not support a nontrivial configuration of complex scalar fields. We considered the general case of the arbitrary number of U(1) gauge fields in the theory under consideration.
In this paper, we study the four dimensional Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton (EMD) theories in the Newman-Penrose (NP) formalism. We adapt the equations of motion into the NP formalism, and obtain the solution space that is asymptotic to the flat space-time. We then investigate the gravitational and electromagnetic memory effects. We find that the dilaton does not contribute to the displacement nor the kick memory effects, but it does contribute to the time-delayed memory effect.
We derive inequalities between the area, the angular momentum and the charges for axisymmetric closed outermost stably marginally outer trapped surfaces, embedded in dynamical and, in general, non-axisymmetric spacetimes satisfying the Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton-matter equations. In proving the inequalities we assume that the dilaton potential is nonnegative and that the matter energy-momentum tensor satisfies the dominant energy condition.
We report a new class of rotating charged solutions in 2+1 dimensions. These solutions are obtained for Einstein-Maxwell gravity coupled to a dilaton field with selfdual electromagnetic fields. The mass and the angular momentum of these solutions computed at spatial infinity are finite. The class of solutions considered here have naked singularities and are asymptotically flat.
We derive exact magnetically charged, static and spherically symmetric black hole solutions of the four-dimensional Einstein-Born-Infeld-dilaton gravity. These solutions are neither asymptotically flat nor (anti)-de Sitter. The properties of the solutions are discussed. It is shown that the black holes are stable against linear radial perturbations.
Avoiding the problem of the existence of asymptotically constant spinors satysfying certain differential equations on a non-compact hypersrface we presented the proof of positivity of the ADM and Bondi energy in Einstein-Maxwell axion-dilaton gravity. In our attitude spinor fields defining the enwergy need only be defined near infinity and there satysfying propagation equations.
The uniqueness theorem for static, spherically symmetric, asymptotically flat, higher dimensional phantom black holes, with non-degenerate event horizon , being the solutions of Einstein phantom/dilaton Maxwell/anti-Maxwell gravity systems is considered. Conformal positive energy theorem and conformal transformations authorize the crucial tools for exploiting the boundary conditions and conformal flatness.
We discuss the new class of static axially symmetric black hole solutions obtained recently in Einstein-Yang-Mills and Einstein-Yang-Mills-dilaton theory. These black hole solutions are asymptotically flat and they possess a regular event horizon. The event horizon is almost spherically symmetric with a slight elongation along the symmetry axis. The energy density of the matter fields is angle-dependent at the horizon. The static axially symmetric black hole solutions satisfy a simple relation between mass, dilaton charge, entropy and temperature. The black hole solutions are characterized by …
We present a proof of the positivity of the Bondi energy in Einstein-Maxwell axion-dilaton gravity, being the low-energy limit of the heterotic string theory. We consider the spacelike hypersurface which asymptotically approaches a null cone and on which the equations of the theory under consideration are given. Next, we generalize the proof allowing the hypersurface having inner boundaries.
We explore the cosmic censorship in the Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton theory following Wald's thought experiment to destroy a black hole by throwing in a test particle. We discover that at probe limit the extremal charged dilaton black hole could be destroyed by a test particle with specific energy. Nevertheless the censorship is well protected if backreaction or self-force is included. At the end, we discuss an interesting connection between Hoop Conjecture and Weak Gravity Conjecture.
In the present paper we prove a classification (uniqueness) theorem for stationary, asymptotically flat black hole spacetimes with connected and non-degenerate horizon in 4D Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton theory with an arbitrary dilaton coupling parameter $α$. We show that such black holes are uniquely specified by the length of the horizon interval, angular momentum, electric and magnetic charge and the value of the dilaton field at infinity when the dilaton coupling parameter satisfies $0\le α^2\le3$. The proof is based on the nonpositivity of the Riemann curvature operator on the space of the po…
We consider Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton theory in four dimensions including the Kaluza-Klein theory and obtain the general asymptotic solutions in Bondi gauge. We find that there are three different types of news functions representing gravitational, electromagnetic, and scalar radiations. The mass density at any angle of the system can only decrease whenever there is any type of news function. The solution space of the Kaluza-Klein theory is also lifted to five dimensions. We also compute the asymptotic symmetries in both four dimensional Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton theory and five dimensional pure…
The descriptions of Reissner-Nordstroem and Kerr-Newman dilatonic black holes in the Einstein frame are compared to those in the string frame. We describe various physical measurements in the two frames and show which experiments can distinguish between the two frames. In particular we discuss the gyromagnetic ratios of black holes, the decay law via Hawking radiation and the propagation of light on black hole backgrounds.
We derive Bogomolny equations for an Einstein-Yang-Mills-dilaton-$σ$ model (EYMD-$σ$) on a static spacetime, showing that the Einstein equations are satisfied if and only if the associated (conformally scaled) three-metric is flat. These are precisely the static metrics for which super-covariantly constant spinors exist. We study some general properties of these equations and then consider the problem of obtaining axially symmetric solutions for the gauge group SU(2).
We prove a uniqueness theorem for traversable wormhole solutions in the Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton gravity with a phantom scalar field and a possible phantom electromagnetic field. In a certain region of the parameter space, determined by the asymptotic values of the scalar field and the lapse function, the regular wormholes are completely specified by their mass, scalar charge and electric charge. The argument is based on the positive energy theorem applied on an appropriate conformally transformed Riemannian space.
In this paper we consider the holographic DC and Hall conductivity in Einstein-Maxwell-Dilaton in Gauss-Bonnet gravity with momentum dissipation. We analytically derived the DC conductivity and Hall conductivity from the black horizon data, and found that the conductivities are independent on the Gauss-Bonnet coupling. We also used the entropy function formalism to get the conductivities in terms of the charge of the black hole, even without knowing the explicit black hole solutions.
We obtain the general static, spherically symmetric solution for the Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton system in four dimensions with a phantom coupling for the dilaton and/or the Maxwell field. This leads to new classes of black hole solutions, with single or multiple horizons. Using the geodesic equations, we analyse the corresponding Penrose diagrams revealing, in some cases, new causal structures.
We numerically construct static and spherically symmetric electrically charged black hole solutions in Einstein-Born-Infeld gravity with massive dilaton. The numerical solutions show that the dilaton potential allows many more black hole causal structures than the massless dilaton. We find that depending on the black hole mass and charge and the dilaton mass the black holes can have either one, two, or three horizons. The extremal solutions are also found out. As an interesting peculiarity we note that there are extremal black holes with an inner horizon and with triply degenerated horizon.
Motivated by the recently proposed Kerr/CFT correspondence, we investigate the holographic dual of the extremal and non-extremal rotating linear dilaton black hole in Einstein-Maxwell-Dilaton-Axion Gravity. For the case of extremal black hole, by imposing the appropriate boundary condition at spatial infinity of the near horizon extremal geometry, the Virasoro algebra of conserved charges associated with the asymptotic symmetry group is obtained. It is shown that the microscopic entropy of the dual conformal field given by Cardy formula exactly agrees with Bekenstein-Hawking entropy of extrema…
We consider 5D Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton (EMd) gravity in spacetimes with three commuting Killing vectors: one timelike and two spacelike Killing vectors, one of which is hypersurface-orthogonal. Assuming a special ansatz for the Maxwell field we show that the 2-dimensional reduced EMd equations are completely integrable. We also develop a solution generating method for explicit construction of exact EMd solutions from known exact solutions of 5D vacuum Einstein equations with considered symmetries. We derive explicitly the rotating dipole black ring solutions as a particular application of the…
We construct static and spherically symmetric particle-like and black hole solutions with magnetic or electric charge in the Einstein-Born-Infeld-dilaton system, which is a generalization of the Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton (EMD) system and of the Einstein-Born-Infeld (EBI) system. They have remarkable properties which are not seen for the corresponding solutions in the EBI and the EMD system.
In this paper we generalize the previous works to the case that the near-horizon dynamics of the Einstein-Dilaton-Axion theory can be governed by the incompressible Navier-Stokes equation via imposing the Petrov-like boundary condition on hypersurfaces in the non-relativistic and near-horizon limit. The dynamical shear viscosity $η$ of such dual horizon fluid in our scenario, which isotropically saturates the Kovtun-Son-Starinet (KSS) bound, is independent of both the dilaton field and axion field in that limit.
We construct generalizations of the Kerr black holes by including higher curvature corrections in the form of the Gauss-Bonnet density coupled to the dilaton. We show that the domain of existence of these Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet-dilaton (EBGd) black holes is bounded by the Kerr black holes, the critical EGBd black holes, and the singular extremal EGBd solutions. The angular momentum of the EGBd black holes can exceed the Kerr bound. The EGBd black holes satisfy a generalised Smarr relation. We also compare their innermost stable circular orbits with those of the Kerr black holes and show the exi…
We study spherically symmetric, asymptotically flat black hole solutions in the low-energy effective heterotic string theory, which is the Einstein gravity with Gauss-Bonnet term and the dilaton, in various dimensions. We derive the field equations for suitable ansatz for general D dimensions and construct black hole solutions of various masses numerically in D=4,5,6 and 10 dimensional spacetime with (D-2)-dimensional hypersurface with positive constant curvature. A detailed comparison with the non-dilatonic solutions is made. We also examine the thermodynamic properties of the solutions. It i…
We study the stability under scalar perturbations, and we compute the quasinormal modes of the Einstein-Born-Infeld dilaton spacetime in 1+3 dimensions. Solving the full radial equation in terms of hypergeometric functions, we provide an exact analytical expression for the spectrum. We find that the frequencies are purely imaginary, and we confirm our results by computing them numerically. Although the scalar field that perturbs the black hole is electrically neutral, an instability similar to that seen in charged scalar perturbations of the Reissner-Nordström black hole is observed.
Mass angular momentum and charge inequalities for axisymmetric maximal time-symmetric initial data invariant under an action of U(1) group, in Einstein-Maxwell-axion-dilaton gravity being the low-energy limit of the heterotic string theory, is established. We assume that data set with two asymptotically flat regions is given on smooth simply connected manifold. We also pay attention to the area momentum charge inequalities for a closed orintabler two-dimensional spacelike surface embedded in the spacetime of the considered theory.
A static black hole with spherical symmetry is obtained and examined in the framework of Einstein-Yang-Mills-dilaton theory. The obtained black hole solution allowed us to derive and investigate entropy, temperature and heat capacity. To better examine the thermodynamics of the black hole extended phase space is also used. On this ground the equation of state is obtained and studied. We have also investigated the Gibbs free energy and it is shown that below the critical temperature the system demonstrates phase transitions of the first as well as of the zeroth order which is notable feature fo…
The field equations for Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton gravity in $D$ dimensions are reduced to an effective one-dimensional system under the influence of exponential potentials. Various cases where exact solutions can be found are explored. With this procedure, we present interesting solutions such as a one-parameter generalisation of the dilaton-Melvin spacetime and a three-parameter solution that interpolates between the Reissner-Nordström and Bertotti-Robinson solution. This procedure also allows simple, alternative derivations of known solutions such as the Lifshitz spacetime and the planar Ant…
We investigate the holographic DC and Hall conductivity in massive Einstein-Maxwell-Dilaton (EMD) gravity. Two special EMD backgrounds are considered explicitly. One is dyonic Reissner-Nordstr$\ddot{o}$m-AdS (RN-AdS) geometry and the other one is hyperscaling violation AdS (HV-AdS) geometry. We find that the linear-T resistivity and quadratic-T inverse Hall angle can be simultaneously achieved in HV-AdS models, providing a hint to construct holographic models confronting with the experimental data of strange metal in future.
We present a new class of slowly rotating black hole solutions in $(n+1)$-dimensional $(n\geq3)$ Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton gravity in the presence of Liouville-type potential for the dilaton field and an arbitrary value of the dilaton coupling constant. Because of the presence of the dilaton field, the asymptotic behaviour of these solutions are neither flat nor (A)dS. In the absence of a dilaton field, our solution reduces to the $(n+1)$-dimensional Kerr-Newman modification thereof for small rotation parameter \cite{Aliev2}. We also compute the angular momentum and the gyromagnetic ratio of th…
In the present paper we investigate the Hawking radiation of asymptotically non-flat dyonic black holes in 4D Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton gravity in semi-classical approximation. We show that the problem allows an exact analytical treatment and we compute exactly the semi-classical radiation spectrum of both non-extremal and extremal black holes under consideration. In the high frequency regime we find that the Hawking temperature does not agree with the surface gravity when the magnetic charge is nonzero. Even more surprisingly the Hawking temperature is independent of the black hole intrinsic c…
We discuss the static axially symmetric regular solutions, obtained recently in Einstein-Yang-Mills and Einstein-Yang-Mills-dilaton theory [1]. These asymptotically flat solutions are characterized by the winding number $n>1$ and the node number $k$ of the purely magnetic gauge field. The well-known spherically symmetric solutions have winding number $n=1$. The axially symmetric solutions satisfy the same relations between the metric and the dilaton field as their spherically symmetric counterparts. Exhibiting a strong peak along the $ρ$-axis, the energy density of the matter fields of the axi…
We study cosmological solutions in the low-energy effective heterotic string theory, which is the Einstein gravity with Gauss-Bonnet term and the dilaton. We show that the field equations are cast into an autonomous system for flat internal and external spaces, and derive all the fixed points in the system. We also examine the time evolution of the solutions and whether the solutions can give (transient) accelerated expansion of our four-dimensional space in the Einstein frame.
We study asymptotically AdS topological black hole solutions with k=0 (plane symmetric) in the Einstein gravity with Gauss-Bonnet term, the dilaton and a "cosmological constant" in various dimensions. We derive the field equations for suitable ansatz for general D dimensions. We determine the parameter regions including dilaton couplings where such solutions exist and construct black hole solutions of various masses numerically in D=4,5,6 and 10 dimensional spacetime with (D-2)-dimensional hypersurface of zero curvature.
A static spherically symmetric solution is obtained and examined in the framework of Einstein-power-Yang-Mills-dilaton theory. To derive this exact solution a dilaton potential $V(Φ)$ is taken into account. Thermodynamics of the black hole is also studied, namely we have obtained and investigated the temperature and heat capacity of the black hole which has allowed us characterize the stability of the black hole. Using the framework of the extended thermodynamic phase space we have derived the equation of state for the black hole. We have studied the Gibbs free energy of the black hole, which …
The Kramer--Neugebauer--like transformation is constructed for the stationary axisymmetric D=4 Einstein--Maxwell--dilaton--axion system. This transformation directly maps the dualized sigma--model equations of the theory into the nondualized ones. Also the new chiral $4 \times 4$ matrix representation of the problem is presented.
We construct charged black hole solutions with hyperscaling violation in the infrared(IR) region in Einstein-Maxwell-Dilaton-Axion theory and investigate the temperature behavior of the ratio of holographic shear viscosity to the entropy density. When translational symmetry breaking is relevant in the IR, the power law of the ratio is testified numerically at low temperature $T$, namely, $η/s\sim T^κ$, where the values of exponent $κ$ coincide with the analytical results. We also find that the exponent $κ$ is not affected by irrelevant current, but is reduced by the relevant current.
We study the 5D static Einstein-Maxwell equations with a dilaton field. We construct an infinte number of solutions by using a soliton technique. We study the rod structure of 2-soliton solution and show the 5D dilatonic black ring and black hole solutions are included.
We find that AdS spacetime with a non-trivial linear dilaton field is an exact solution in the effective action of string theory, which is described by gravity with the Gauss-Bonnet curvature terms coupled to a dilaton field in the string frame. The AdS radius is determined by the spacetime dimensions and the coupling constants of curvature corrections. We also construct the asymptotically AdS black hole solutions with a linear dilaton field numerically. We discuss the thermodynamical properties of those solutions. Extending the model to the case with the even-order higher Lovelock curvature t…
