Within two different frameworks of isospin-dependent transport model, i.e., Boltzmann-Uehling-Uhlenbeck (IBUU04) and Ultrarelativistic Quantum Molecular Dynamics (UrQMD) transport models, sensitive probes of nuclear symmetry energy are simulated and compared. It is shown that neutron to proton ratio of free nucleons, pi-/pi+ ratio as well as isospin-sensitive transverse and elliptic flows given by the two transport models with their "best settings", all have obvious differences. Discrepancy of numerical value of isospin-sensitive n/p ratio of free nucleon from the two models mainly originates from different symmetry potentials used and discrepancies of numerical value of charged pi-/pi+ ratio and isospin-sensitive flows mainly originate from different isospin-dependent nucleon-nucleon cross sections. These demonstrations call for more detailed studies on the model inputs (i.e., the density- and momentum-dependent symmetry potential and the isospin-dependent nucleon-nucleon cross section in medium) of isospin-dependent transport model used. The studies of model dependence of isospin sensitive observables can help nuclear physicists to pin down the density dependence of nuclear symmetry energy through comparison between experiments and theoretical simulations scientifically.
We have developed an efficient isospin projection method in the shell model Monte Carlo approach for isospin-conserving Hamiltonians. For isoscalar observables this projection method has the advantage of being exact sample by sample. The isospin projection method allows us to take into account the proper isospin dependence of the nuclear interaction, thus avoiding a sign problem that such an interaction introduces in unprojected calculations. We apply our method in the calculation of the isospin dependence of level densities in the complete $pf+g_{9/2}$ shell. We find that isospin-dependent co…
Based on the Isospin-dependent transport model Boltzmann-Uehling-Uhlenbeck (IBUU), effects of the high momentum tail (HMT) of nucleon momentum distribution in colliding nuclei on some isospin-sensitive observables are studied in the semi-central $^{197}\rm {Au}+^{197}\rm {Au}$ reactions at incident beam energy of 400 MeV/nucleon. It is found that the nucleon transverse flow, the difference of neutron and proton transverse flows, the nucleon elliptic flow and free neutron to proton ratio are all less sensitive to the HMT, while the isospin-sensitive nucleon elliptic flow difference is clearly a…
We study the implications of isospin symmetry in nuclear systems on two-body distributions and derive relations between different densities or momentum distributions of a given nucleus or of different nuclei in the same isospin multiplet. A connection between neutrinoless double beta decay transition of mirror nuclei and two-body densities is also obtained. The relations are numerically verified by means of quantum Monte Carlo calculations. We discuss the relevance of these results to the analysis of nuclear short-range correlations and also show that isospin symmetry allows us to extract info…
Using in-medium hadron properties according to the Brown-Rho scaling due to the chiral symmetry restoration at high densities and considering naturalness of the coupling constants, we have newly constructed several relativistic mean-field Lagrangians with chiral limits. The model parameters are adjusted such that the symmetric part of the resulting equation of state at supra-normal densities is consistent with that required by the collective flow data from high energy heavy-ion reactions, while the resulting density dependence of the symmetry energy at sub-saturation densities agrees with that…
We review recent results obtained for charge asymmetric systems at Fermi energies. Observables sensitive to the isospin dependent part of nuclear interaction are discussed, providing information on the symmetry energy behavior below normal density.
We reexamine effects of the $ρ-ω$ meson mixing mediated by nucleon polarizations on the symmetry energy in isospin-asymmetric nuclear matter. Taking into account the rearrangement term neglected in previous studies by others, we evaluate the $ρ-ω$ mixing angle in a novel way within the Relativistic Mean-Field Models with and without chiral limits. It is found that the symmetry energy is significantly softened at high densities contrary to the finding in earlier studies. As the first step of going beyond the lowest-order calculations, we also solve the RPA equation for the $ρ-ω$ mixing. In this…
We explore the influence of in-medium nucleon-nucleon cross section, symmetry potential and impact parameter on isospin sensitive observables in intermediate-energy heavy-ion collisions with the ImQMD05 code, a modified version of Quantum Molecular Dynamics model. At incident velocities above the Fermi velocity, we find that the density dependence of symmetry potential plays a more important role on the double neutron to proton ratio $DR(n/p)$ and the isospin transport ratio $R_i$ than the in-medium nucleon-nucleon cross sections, provided that the latter are constrained to a fixed total NN co…
Within an isospin-dependent transport model for nuclear reactions induced by neutron-rich nuclei, we perform a comparative study of $^{100}Sn+^{124}Sn$ and $^{100}Zn+^{124}Sn$ reactions at beam energies of 30 MeV/A and 400 MeV/A to identify optimal experimental conditions and observables for investigating the equation of state (EOS) of neutron-rich matter at RIA. Several observables known to be sensitive to the density-dependence of the symmetry energy are examined as a function of impact parameter for both reaction systems. In particular, the strength of isospin transport/diffusion is studied…
We study isoscalar (IS) and isovector (IV) densities in ${}^{40} \mathrm{Ca}$ in comparison with theoretical densities calculated by Skyrme Hartree-Fock (HF) models. The charge symmetry breaking and the charge independence breaking forces are introduced to study the effect on the IV density. The effect of isospin mixing in the ground-state density is examined by using the particle-vibration coupling model taking into account the collective IV giant monopole excitation. We show a clear correlations in the IV density and isospin impurity of ${}^{40} \mathrm{Ca}$ within the HF and the particle-vi…
Pair densities and associated correlation functions provide a critical tool for introducing many-body correlations into a wide-range of effective theories. Ab initio calculations show that two-nucleon pair-densities exhibit strong spin and isospin dependence. However, such calculations are not available for all nuclei of current interest. We therefore provide a simple model, which involves combining the short and long separation distance behavior using a single blending function, to accurately describe the two-nucleon correlations inherent in existing ab initio calculations. We show that the s…
We introduce isospin dependence in the cluster recognition algorithms used in the Quantum Molecular Dynamics model to describe fragment formation in heavy ion collisions. This change reduces the yields of emitted nucleons and enhances the yields of fragments, especially heavier fragments. The enhancement of neutron-rich lighter fragments mainly occurs at mid-rapidity. Consequently, isospin dependent observables, such as isotope distributions, yield ratios of $n/p$, $t/^3He$, and isoscaling parameters are affected. We also investigate how equilibration in heavy ion collisions is affected by thi…
The validity of impact parameter estimation from the multiplicity of charged particles at low-intermediate energies is checked within the framework of ImQMD model. The simulations show that the multiplicity of charged particles cannot estimate the impact parameter of heavy ion collisions very well, especially for central collisions at the beam energies lower than $\sim$70 MeV/u due to the large fluctuations of the multiplicity of charged particles. The simulation results for the central collisions defined by the charged particle multiplicity are compared to those by using impact parameter b=2 …
The isospin diffusion of the quasi-projectile formed in the $^{64,58}Ni$ on $^{64,58}Ni$ reactions in the Fermi energy domain is investigated in the framework of the Boltzmann-Uehling-Uhlenbeck transport model. The well known isospin transport ratio observable is revisited, with the aim of insuring an optimal comparison between experimental data and theoretical calculations and reducing the present uncertainties in the extraction of empirical equation of state parameters. We show that isospin transport ratios are sensitive to all the low order isovector parameters ($E_{sym}$, $L_{sym}$ and $K_…
We study the two-color QCD matter within two fundamental quark flavors via both chiral perturbation theory and Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model methods. The effective Lagrangian described by low lying meson and baryon, i.e., diquark, is derived, where the excitations locate in the extended $\mathrm{SU}(4)$ flavor symmetry space. We determine the leading order terms on the dependence of the baryon and axial isospin densities. Then, the two-color NJL model is employed to run the numerical simulation and the phase diagram in the plane of $μ-ν_{5}$ is plotted.
Based on the ultra-relativistic quantum molecular dynamics (UrQMD) model, the impacts of momentum dependent interaction, symmetry energy and near-threshold $NN\to NΔ$ cross sections on isospin sensitive collective flow and pion observables are investigated. Our results confirm that the elliptic flow of neutrons and charged particles, i.e. $v_2^n$ and $v_2^{ch}$, are sensitive to the strength of momentum dependence interaction and the elliptic flow ratio, i.e., $v_2^n/v_2^{ch}$, is sensitive to the stiffness of symmetry energy. For describing the pion multiplicity near the threshold energy, acc…
We present initial results of a numerical investigation of the chiral symmetry restoring transition in the (3+1)-dimensional Nambu -- Jona-Lasinio model with both non-zero baryon chemical potential (mu_B) and isospin chemical potential (mu_I). With non-zero isospin chemical potential, the model suffers from a sign problem. We proceed in two ways: (i) We perform ``partially quenched'' simulations in which mu_I is made non-zero only during the measurement of chiral observables; (ii) We perform full simulations with imaginary isospin chemical potential with the aim to analytically continue result…
Isospin relaxation times characterizing isospin transport processes between the projectile and the target with different $N/Z$ ratios and that between the neck and the spectator with different isospin asymmetries and densities in intermediate-energy heavy-ion collisions are studied within an isospin-dependent Boltzmann-Uehling-Uhlenbeck transport model using the lattice Hamiltonian approach. The respective roles and time scales of the isospin diffusion and drift as the major mechanisms of isospin transport in intermediate-energy heavy-ion collisions are discussed. Effects of nuclear symmetry e…
We review the present status of the nucleon effective mass splitting $puzzle$ in asymmetric matter, with controversial predictions within both non-relativistic $and$ relativistic approaches to the effective in medium interactions. Based on microscopic transport simulations we suggest some rather sensitive observables in collisions of asymmetric (unstable) ions at intermediate ($RIA$) energies: i) Energy systematics of Lane Potentials; ii) Isospin content of fast emitted nucleons; iii) Differential Collective Flows. Similar measurements for light isobars (like $^3H-^3He$) could be also importan…
Investigation of observables from nuclear multifragmentation reactions depending on isospin led to the development of a hybrid model. The mass and charge distribution as well as isotopic distribution was studied using this model for $^{112}$Sn+$^{112}$Sn reaction as well as $^{124}$Sn+$^{124}$Sn reactions at different energies. The agreement of the results obtained from the model with those from experimental data confirms the accuracy of the model. Isoscaling coefficients were extracted from these observables which can throw light on the symmetry energy coefficient. Another important facet of …
We investigate the equation of state of asymmetric nuclear matter and its isospin dependence in various spin-isospin $ST$ channels within the framework of the Brueckner-Hartree-Fock approach extended to include a microscopic three-body force (TBF). It is shown that the potential energy per nucleon in the isospin-singlet T=0 channel is mainly determined by the contribution from the tensor SD coupled channel. At high densities, the TBF effect on the isospin-triplet T=1 channel contribution turns out to be much larger than that on the T=0 channel contribution. At low densities around and below th…
With stochastic transport simulations we study in detail central and peripheral collisions at Fermi energies and suggest new observables, sensitive to the symmetry energy below normal density. As such we identify on one hand the isospin imbalance ratio, i.e. the relative amount of isospin equilibration in binary, peripheral reactions of nuclei with different isospin, as a function of the energy loss, which is sensitive to isospin diffusion; on the other hand the isospin asymmetry of an intermediate mass fragment (IMF) in symmetric collisions in ternary reactions, or more particularly, the rati…
We develop the isospin-invariant Skyrme-EDF method by considering local densities in all possible isospin channels and proton-neutron (p-n) mixing terms as mandated by the isospin symmetry. The EDF employed has the most general form that depends quadratically on the isoscalar and isovector densities. We test and benchmark the resulting p-n EDF approach, and study the general properties of the new scheme by means of the cranking in the isospin space. We extend the existing axial DFT solver HFBTHO to the case of isospin-invariant EDF approach with all possible p-n mixing terms. Explicit expressi…
We investigate the phase diagram of isospin asymmetric matter at T=0 in the two flavor Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model. Our approach describes the single nucleon as a confined quark-diquark state, the saturation properties of nuclear matter at normal densities, and the phase transition to normal or color superconducting quark matter at higher densities. The resulting equation of state of charge neutral matter is discussed.
The asymptotic time derivative of the total dipole signal is proposed as an useful observable to investigate on Isospin equilibration phenomenon in multi-fragmentation processes. The study has been developed to describe charge/mass equilibration processes involving the gas and liquid "phases" of the total system formed during the early stage of a collision. General properties of this observable and the links with others isospin dependent phenomena are discussed. In particular, the $^{40}Cl+^{28}Si$ system at 40 MeV/nucleon is investigated by means of semiclassical microscopic many-body calcula…
This paper focuses on two problems. The first is related to the consistency checks of the complete correlation coefficients between two groups of variables obtained in Phys. Lett. B 749, 262 (2015). The first group collects parameters that describe properties of nuclear matter referring to the transport model involved. The second one is a group of observables adopted in the heavy ion collision experiments. The second problem concerns the method of determining the values of pure correlations between some variables in heavy ion collision. The application of this method for the analysis of the co…
Nucleon-nucleon scattering observables are considered in the context of the large $N_c$ limit of QCD for initial states with moderately high momenta ($p \sim N_c$). The scattering is studied in the framework of the time-dependent mean-field approximation. We focus on the dependence of those observables on the spin and isospin of the initial state which may be computed using time-dependent mean-field theory. We show that, up to corrections, all such observables must be invariant under simultaneous spin and isospin flips ({\it i.e.} rotations through $π/2$ in both spin and isospin) acting on eit…
Symmetry energy for asymmetric nuclear matter at subsaturation densitieswas investigated in the framework of an isospin-dependent quantum molecular dynamics model.Asingle ratio of neutrons and protons is comparedwith the experimental data of Famiano et al. [Phys. Rev. Lett. 97, 052701 (2006)]. We have also performed a comparison for the double ratio with experimental as well as different theoretical results of Boltzmann-Uehling-Uhlenbeck in 1997, Isospin-dependent Boltzmann-Uehling-Uhlenbeck in 2004, Boltzmann-Nordeim-Vlasov, and Improved QuantumMolecular Dynamics models. It is found that the …
Heavy Ion Collisions (HIC) represent a unique tool to probe the in-medium nuclear interaction in regions away from saturation and at high nucleon momenta. In this report we present a selection of reaction observables particularly sensitive to the isovector part of the interaction, i.e. to the symmetry term of the nuclear Equation of State (EoS) At low energies the behavior of the symmetry energy around saturation influences dissipation and fragment production mechanisms. Predictions are shown for deep-inelastic and fragmentation collisions induced by neutron rich projectiles. Differential flow…
Within two different frameworks of isospin-dependent transport model, effect of nuclear symmetry energy at supradensities on the isospin-fractionation (IsoF) was investigated. With positive/negative symmetry potential at supradensities (i.e., values of symmetry energy increase/decrease with density above saturation density), for energetic nucleons, the value of neutron to proton ratio of free nucleons is larger/smaller than that of bound nucleon fragments. Compared with extensively studied quantitative observables of nuclear symmetry energy, the normal or abnormal isospin-fractionation of ener…
We discuss mechanisms related to isospin transport in central collisions between neutron-rich systems at Fermi energies. A fully consistent study of the isospin distillation and expansion dynamics in two-component systems is presented in the framework of a stochastic transport theory. We analyze correlations between fragment observables, focusing on the study of the average N/Z of fragments, as a function of their kinetic energy. We identify an EOS-dependent relation between these observables, allowing to better characterize the fragmentation path and to access new information on the low densi…
The asymptotic time derivative of the total dipole signal is proposed as an useful observable to study Isospin equilibration phenomenon in multi-fragmentation processes. The study proceeds through the investigation of the $^{40}Cl+^{28}Si$ system at 40 MeV/nucleon by means of semiclassical microscopic many-body calculations based on the CoMD-II model. In particular, the study has been developed to describe charge/mass equilibration processes involving the gas and liquid "phases" of the total system formed during the early stage of a collision. Through the investigation of dynamical many-body c…
The sensitivities of isospin asymmetry and collision geometry dependencies of participant (overlapping region)- spectator (quasiprojectile and quasitarget region) matter towards the symmetry energy using the isospin quantum molecular dynamical model are explored. Particularly, the difference of the number of nucleons in the overlapping zone to the quasi-projectile-target matter is found to be quite sensitive to the symmetry energy at semiperipheral geometries compared to the individual yield. It gives us a clue that this quantity can be used as a measure of isospin migration. Further, the yiel…
The density dependence of the symmetry energy in the equation of state of isospin asymmetric nuclear matter is studied using the isoscaling of the fragment yields and the antisymmetrized molecular dynamic calculation. It is observed that the experimental data at low densities are consistent with the form of symmetry energy,E$_{sym}$ $\approx$ 31.6 ($ρ/ρ_{\circ})^{0.69}$, in close agreement with those predicted by the results of variational many-body calculation. A comparison of the present result with those reported recently using the NSCL-MSU data suggests that the heavy ion studies favor a d…
Within the framework of ImQMD05, we study several isospin sensitive observables, such as DR(n/p) ratios, isospin transport ratio (isospin diffusion), yield ratios for LCPs between the projectile region and mid-rapidity region for the reaction systems Ni+Ni, Zn+Zn, Sn+Sn at low-intermediate energies. Our results show that those observables are sensitive to the density dependence of symmetry energy, and also depend on the cluster formation mechanism. By comparing these calculations to the data, the information of the symmetry energy and reaction mechanism is obtained.
We explore the dependence of the critical density, separating hadronic matter from a mixed phase of quarks and hadrons, on the ratio $Z/A$. We use both the MIT bag model and the Color Dielectric Model to describe the quark dynamics, while for the hadronic phase we employ various relativistic equations of state. We find that, if the parameters of quark models are fixed so that the existence of quark stars is allowed, then the critical density drops dramatically in the range $Z/A \sim $ 0.3--0.4. Moreover, for $Z/A \sim $ 0.3 the critical density is only slightly larger than the saturation densi…
We investigate the thermodynamics of a thermal field theory in presence of both a baryon and an isospin chemical potential. For this we consider a probe of several D7-branes embedded in the AdS-Schwarzschild black hole background. We determine the structure of the phase diagram and calculate the relevant thermodynamical quantities both in the canonical and in the grand canonical ensemble. We discuss how accidental symmetries present reflect themselves in the phase diagram: In the case of two flavors, for small densities, there is a rotational symmetry in the plane spanned by the baryon and iso…
Quantitative information on the tensor force induced isospin-dependence of short-range nucleon-nucleon correlation (SRC) extracted from recent J-Lab experiments was used in constraining the high-momentum tails of single nucleon momentum distributions in both symmetric nuclear matter (SNM) and pure neutron matter (PNM). Its effects on the Equations of State of SNM and PNM as well as the nuclear symmetry energy are investigated. It is found that the tensor force induced isospin-dependence of SRC softens significantly the nuclear symmetry energy especially at supra-saturation densities.
We studied the influence of a momentum dependent interaction in the context of isopspin effects on fragmentation and dissipation in intermediate energy heavy ion collisions by using an isospin dependent quantum molecular dynamics model. It is shown that the nuclear stopping, the number of nucleons emitted ,and the multiplicity of intermediate mass fragments are larger with a momentum dependent interaction than without. In particular, the differences for these observables, when using an isospin dependent in-medium nucleon nucleon cross section versus an isospin independent one, are also larger …
With an isospin- and momentum-dependent transport model, we find that the degree of isospin diffusion in heavy ion collisions at intermediate energies is affected by both the stiffness of the nuclear symmetry energy and the momentum dependence of the nucleon potential. Using a momentum dependence derived from the Gogny effective interaction, recent experimental data from NSCL/MSU on isospin diffusion are shown to be consistent with a nuclear symmetry energy given by $E_{\text{sym}}(ρ)\approx 31.6(ρ/ρ_{0})^{1.05} $ at subnormal densities. This leads to a significantly constrained value of about…
The Lagrangian density of relativistic mean-field (RMF) theory with non-linear derivative (NLD) interactions is applied to isospin asymmetric nuclear matter. We study the symmetry energy and the density and energy dependences of nucleon selfenergies. At high baryon densities a soft symmetry energy is obtained. The energy dependence of the isovector selfenergy suppresses the Lane-type optical potential with increasing energy and predicts a $ρ$-meson induced mass splitting between protons and neutrons in isospin asymmetric matter.
We study the in-medium properties of $D$ and $\bar{D}$ mesons in isospin asymmetric hyperonic matter arising due to their interactions with the light hadrons. The interactions of $D$ and $\bar{D}$ mesons with these light hadrons are derived by generalizing the chiral SU(3) model used for the study of hyperonic matter to SU(4). The nucleons, the scalar isoscalar meson, $σ$ and the scalar-isovector meson, $δ$ as modified in the strange hadronic matter, modify the masses of $D$ and $\bar{D}$ mesons. It is found that as compared to the $\bar{D}$ mesons, the $D$ meson properties are more sensitive …
We investigate the effects of charge independence and charge symmetry breaking in neutron-rich matter. We consider neutron and proton properties in isospin-asymmetric matter at normal densities as well as the high-density neutron matter equation of state and the bulk properties of neutron stars. We find charge symmetry and charge independence breaking effects to be very small.
Using the Hugenholtz-Van Hove theorem, we derive general expressions for the quadratic and quartic symmetry energies in terms of single-nucleon potentials in isospin asymmetric nuclear matter. These analytical relations are useful for gaining deeper insights into the microscopic origins of the uncertainties in our knowledge on nuclear symmetry energies especially at supra-saturation densities. As examples, the formalism is applied to two model single-nucleon potentials that are widely used in transport model simulations of heavy-ion reactions.
We investigate the $^1S_0$ neutron and proton superfluidity in isospin asymmetric nuclear matter. We have concentrated on the isospin dependence of the pairing gaps and the effect of a microscopic three-body force. It is found that as the isospin asymmetry goes higher, the neutron $^1S_0$ superfluid phase shrinks gradually to a smaller density domain, while the proton one extends rapidly to a much wider density domain. The three-body force turns out to weaken the neutron $^1S_0$ superfluidity slightly, but it suppresses strongly the proton $^1S_0$ superfluidity at high densities in nuclear mat…
Using results from the chiral perturbation theory for the s-wave interaction and the delta-resonance model for the p-wave interaction of pions with nucleons, we have evaluated the spectral functions of pions in asymmetric nuclear matter with unequal proton and neutron densities. We find that in hot dense neutron-rich matter the strength of the spectral function of positively charged pion at low energies is somewhat larger than that of negatively charged pion. In a thermal model, this isospin-dependent effect slightly reduces the ratio of negatively charged to positively charged pions that are …
The quark-meson coupling model which we have developed previously is extended to incorporate the $δ$ meson. It is then used to study the Nolen-Schiffer anomaly and isospin symmetry breaking in nuclear matter. We find that, in combination with the {\it u-d\/} mass difference, the difference between quark scalar densities in protons and neutrons generates an effective neutron-proton mass difference of the right magnitude. Finally we find that isospin symmetry breaking in the quark condensates can be directly related to the $δ$ meson field.
High energy Heavy Ion Collisions (HIC) are studied in order to access nuclear matter properties at high density. Particular attention is paid to the selection of observables sensitive to the poorly known symmetry energy at high baryon density, of large fundamental interest, even for the astrophysics implications. Using fully consistent transport simulations built on effective theories we test isospin observables ranging from nucleon/cluster emissions to collective flows (in particular the elliptic, squeeze out, part). The effects of the competition between stiffness and momentum dependence of …
Theoretical approaches that use one-body densities as dynamical variables, such as Hartree-Fock or the density functional theory (DFT), break isospin symmetry both explicitly, by virtue of charge-dependent interactions, and spontaneously. To restore the spontaneously broken isospin symmetry, we implemented the isospin-projection scheme on top of the Skyrme-DFT approach. This development allows for consistent treatment of isospin mixing in both ground and exited nuclear states. In this study, we apply this method to evaluate the isospin impurities in ground states of even-even and odd-odd N~Z n…
Isospin symmetry is explicitly broken in the Standard Model by the non-zero differences of mass and electric charge between the up and down quarks. Both of these corrections are expected to have a comparable size of the order of one percent relatively to hadronic energies. Although these contributions are small, they play a crucial role in hadronic and nuclear physics. In this review we explain how to properly define QCD and QED on a finite and discrete space-time so that isospin corrections to hadronic observables can be computed ab-initio. We then consider the different approaches to compute…
We investigate in detail the momentum dependence ($MD$) of the effective in medium Nucleon-Nucleon ($NN$) interaction in the isovector channel. We focus the discussion on transport properties of the expected neutron-proton ($n/p$) effective mass splitting at high isospin density. We look at observable effects from collective flows in Heavy Ion Collisions ($HIC$) of charge asymmetric nuclei at intermediate energies. Using microscopic kinetic equation simulations nucleon transverse and elliptic collective flows in $Au+Au$ collisions are evaluated. In spite of the reduced charge asymmetry of the …
We discuss the isospin effect on the possible phase transition from hadronic to quark matter at high baryon density and finite temperatures. The two-Equation of State (Two-EoS) model is adopted to describe the hadron-quark phase transition in dense matter formed in heavy-ion collisions. For the hadron sector we use Relativistic Mean Field (RMF) effective models, already tested on heavy ion collision (HIC). For the quark phase we consider various effective models, the MIT-Bag static picture, the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio (NJL) approach with chiral dynamics and finally the NJL coupled to the Polyakov-…
Within the framework of an isospin-dependent Boltzmann-Uehling-Uhlenbeck (BUU) model using initial proton and neutron densities calculated from the nonlinear relativistic mean-field (RMF) theory, we compare the strength of transverse collective flow in reactions $^{48}Ca+^{58}Fe$ and $^{48}Cr+^{58}Ni$, which have the same mass number but different neutron/proton ratios. The neutron-rich system ($^{48}Ca+^{58}Fe$) is found to show significantly stronger negative deflection and consequently has a higher balance energy, especially in peripheral collisions. NOTE ADDED IN PROOF: The new phenomenon …
Within a transport model using as the input nucleon momentum profiles from a parameterized isospin-dependent single-nucleon momentum distribution with a high momentum tail induced by short-range correlations, we employ the $^{197}$Au + $^{197}$Au collisions at 400 MeV/nucleon to examine on one hand effects of the short-range correlations on the pion and flow observables in probing the nuclear symmetry energy, and on the other hand how reliable are this isospin-dependent single-nucleon momentum distribution as well as the corresponding parameter settings. Besides significant effects of the shor…
The density and temperature dependence of the nuclear symmetry free energy is investigated using microscopic two- and three-body nuclear potentials constructed from chiral effective field theory. The nuclear force models and many-body methods are benchmarked to properties of isospin-symmetric nuclear matter in the vicinity of the saturation density as well as the virial expansion of the neutron matter equation of state at low fugacities. The free energy per particle of isospin-asymmetric nuclear matter is calculated assuming a quadratic dependence of the interaction contributions on the isospi…
We report variational calculations of symmetric nuclear matter and pure neutron matter, using the new Argonne v18 two-nucleon and Urbana IX three-nucleon interactions. At the equilibrium density of 0.16 fm^-3 the two-nucleon densities in symmetric nuclear matter are found to exhibit a short-range spin-isospin structure similar to that found in light nuclei. We also find that both symmetric nuclear matter and pure neutron matter undergo transitions to phases with pion condensation at densities of 0.32 fm^-3 and 0.2 fm^-3, respectively. Neither transtion occurs with the Urbana v14 two-nucleon in…
Based on an improved isospin- and momentum-dependent interaction, we have studied the qualitative effect of isospin splitting of nucleon effective mass on the specific shear viscosity of neutron-rich nuclear matter from a relaxation time approach. It is seen that for $m_n^\star>m_p^\star$, the relaxation time of neutrons is smaller and the neutron flux between flow layers is weaker, leading to a smaller specific shear viscosity of neutron-rich matter compared to the case for $m_n^\star<m_p^\star$. The effect is larger in nuclear matter at higher densities, lower temperatures, and larger isospi…
By simultaneously describing the data of isospin sensitive nucleonic flow and pion observables, such as $v_2^n/v_2^{ch}$ and $π^-/π^+$, with ultra-relativistic quantum molecular dynamics (UrQMD) model, we got the symmetry energy at flow and pion characteristic densities which are $S(1.2ρ_0)=34\pm 4$ MeV and $S(1.5ρ_0)=36\pm 8$ MeV. Within the uncertainties, the constraints of symmetry energy at characteristic densities are consistent with the previous constraints by using other transport models. The consistency suggests that the reliable constraints on symmetry energy should be presented at th…
The thermal and phase properties of a multifragmentation model which uses clusters as degrees of freedom, are explored as a function of isospin. A good qualitative agreement is found with the phase diagram of asymmetric nuclear matter as established by different mean-field models. In particular, from the convexity properties of the nuclear entropy, we show that uncharged finite nuclei display first and second order liquid-gas-like phase transitions. Different quantities are examined to connect the thermal properties of the system to cluster observables. In particular we show that fractionation…
