Holonomic phases---geometric and topological---have long been an intriguing aspect of physics. They are ubiquitous, ranging from observations in particle physics to applications in fault tolerant quantum computing. However, their exploration in particles sharing genuine quantum correlations lack in observations. Here we experimentally demonstrate the holonomic phase of two entangled-photons evolving locally, which nevertheless gives rise to an entanglement-dependent phase. We observe its transition from geometric to topological as the entanglement between the particles is tuned from zero to maximal, and find this phase to behave more resilient to evolution changes with increasing entanglement. Furthermore, we theoretically show that holonomic phases can directly quantify the amount of quantum correlations between the two particles. Our results open up a new avenue for observations of holonomic phenomena in multi-particle entangled quantum systems.
We study entanglement and fidelity of a two-qubit system when a noisy holonomic, non-Abelian, transformation is applied to one of them. The source of noise we investigate is of two types: one due to a stochastic error representing an imprecise control of the fields driving the evolution; the other due to an interaction between the two near qubits. The peculiar level structure underlying the holonomic operator leads us to introduce the reduced logical entanglement which is the fraction of entanglement in the logical space. The comparison between entanglement and fidelity shows how they are diff…
It is a general belief that all fundamental interactions need to be quantized. However, all attempts to develop a quantum theory of gravity presented various problems, leading to a recent active debate about how to probe its quantum nature. In the present work we provide a proof for the necessity of quantizing fundamental interactions demonstrating that a quantum version is needed for any non trivial conservative interaction whose strength is a function of the relative distance between two objects. Our proof is based on a consistency argument that in the presence of a classical field two inter…
We investigate a non-adiabatic holonomic operation that enables us to entangle two fixed-frequency superconducting transmon qubits attached to a common bus resonator. Two coherent microwave tones are applied simultaneously to the two qubits and drive transitions between the first excited resonator state and the second excited state of each qubit. The cyclic evolution within this effective 3-level $Λ$-system gives rise to a holonomic operation entangling the two qubits. Two-qubit states with 95\% fidelity, limited mainly by charge-noise of the current device, are created within $213~\rm{ns}$. T…
Our goal is to provide a new approach to the construction of geometry-induced entanglement between a pair of $Λ$ type atoms in a system consists of $N$ identical atoms by means of nonadiabatic quantum holonomies. By employing the quantum Zeno effect, we introduce a tripod type interaction Hamiltonian between two selected atoms trapped in an optical cavity, which allows arbitrary geometric entangling power. This would be a substantial step toward resolving the feasibility of realizing universal nonadiabatic holonomic entangling two-qubit gates.
The non-adiabatic holonomic quantum computation with the advantages of fast and robustness attracts widespread attention in recent years. Here, we propose the first scheme for realizing universal single-qubit gates based on an optomechanical system working with the non-adiabatic geometric phases. Our quantum gates are robust to the control errors and the parameter fluctuations, and have unique functions to achieve the quantum state transfer and entanglement generation between cavities. We discuss the corresponding experimental parameters and give some simulations. Our scheme may have the pract…
The proposal of the optical scheme for holonomic quantum computation is evaluated based on dynamical resolution to the system beyond adiabatic limitation. The time-dependent Schrödinger equation is exactly solved by virtue of the cranking representation and gauge transformation approach. Besides providing rigorous confirmation to holonomies of the geometrical prediction that holds for the ideally adiabatic situation, the dynamical resolution enables one to evaluate elaborately the amplitude of the nonadiabatic deviation, so that the errors induced to the quantum computation can be explicitly e…
We present a numerical study of the robustness of a specific class of non-abelian holonomic quantum gates . We take into account the parametric noise due to stochastic fluctuations of the control fields which drive the time-dependent Hamiltonian along an adiabatic loop. The performance estimator used is the state fidelity between noiseless and noisy holonomic gates. We carry over our analysis with different correlation times and we find out that noisy holonomic gates seem to be close to the noiseless ones for 'short' and 'long' noise correlation times. This result can be interpreted as a conse…
The CNOT gate is a two-qubit gate which is essential for universal quantum computation. A well-established approach to implement it within Majorana-based qubits relies on subsequent measurement of (joint) Majorana parities. We propose an alternative scheme which operates a protected CNOT gate via the holonomic control of a handful of system parameters, without requiring any measurement. We show how the adiabatic tuning of pair-wise couplings between Majoranas can robustly lead to the full entanglement of two qubits, insensitive with respect to small variations in the control of the parameters.
It is proposed that high-speed universal quantum gates can be realized by using non-Abelian holonomic transformation. A cyclic evolution path which brings the system periodically back to a degenerate qubit subspace is crucial to holonomic quantum computing. The cyclic nature and the resulting gate operations are fully dependent on the precise control of driving parameters, such as the modulated envelop function of Rabi frequency and the control phases. We investigate the effects of fluctuations in these driving parameters on the transformation fidelity of a universal set of single-qubit quantu…
An exact analytical solution is derived for the wavefunction of an electron in a one-dimensional moving quantum dot in a nanowire, in the presence of time-dependent spin-orbit coupling. For cyclic evolutions we show that the spin of the electron is rotated by an angle proportional to the area of a closed loop in the parameter space of the time-dependent quantum dot position and the amplitude of a fictitious classical oscillator driven by the time-dependent spin-orbit coupling. By appropriate choice of parameters, we show that arbitrary spin rotations may be performed on the Bloch sphere. Exact…
We present an experimentally feasible scheme to implement holonomic quantum computation in the ultrastrong-coupling regime of light-matter interaction. The large anharmonicity and the Z2 symmetry of the quantum Rabi model allow us to build an effective three-level Λ-structured artificial atom for quantum computation. The proposed physical implementation includes two gradiometric flux qubits and two microwave resonators where single-qubit gates are realized by a two-tone driving on one physical qubit, and a two-qubit gate is achieved with a time-dependent coupling between the field quadratures …
Nonrelativistic Newton and Schroedinger equations remain correct not only under holonomic but also under nonholonomic transformations of the spacetime coordinates. Here we study the properties of transformations which are holonomic in the space coordinates while additionally tranforming the time in a path-dependent way. This makes them nonholonomic in spacetime. The resulting transformation formulas of physical quantities establish relations between different physical systems. Furthermore we point out certain differential-geometric features of these relations.
The time-dependent pseudo-Hermitian formulation of quantum mechanics allows to study open system dynamics in analogy to Hermitian quantum systems. In this setting, we show that the notion of holonomic quantum computation can equally be formulated for pseudo-Hermitian systems. Starting from a degenerate pseudo-Hermitian Hamiltonian we show that, in the adiabatic limit, a non-Abelian geometric phase emerges which realizes a pseudounitary quantum gate. We illustrate our findings by studying a pseudo-Hermitian gain/loss system which can be written in the form of a tripod Hamiltonian by using the b…
We study the dynamics of entanglement for the XY-model, one-dimensional spin systems coupled through nearest neighbor exchange interaction and subject to an external time-dependent magnetic field. Using the two-site density matrix, we calculate the time-dependent entanglement of formation between nearest neighbor qubits. We investigate the effect of varying the temperature, the anisotropy parameter and the external time-dependent magnetic field on the entanglement. We have found that the entanglement can be localized between nearest neighbor qubits for certain values of the external time-depen…
We study a special two-atom entanglement case in assumed Cavity QED experiment in which only one atom effectively exchanges a single photon with a cavity mode. We compute diatom entanglement under position-dependent atomic resonant dipole-dipole interaction (RDDI) for large interatomic separation limit. We show that the RDDI, even which is much smaller than the maximal atomic Rabi frequency, can induce distinct diatom entanglement. The peak entanglement (PE) reaches a maximum when RDDI strength can compare with the Rabi frequency of an atom.
We provide geometric quantization of a completely integrable Hamiltonian system in the action-angle variables around an invariant torus with respect to the angle polarization. The carrier space of this quantization is the pre-Hilbert space of smooth complex functions on the torus. A Hamiltonian of a completely integrable system in this carrier space has a countable spectrum. If it is degenerate, its eigenvalues are countably degenerate. We study nonadiabatic perturbations of this Hamiltonian by a term depending on classical time-dependent parameters. It is originated by a connection on the par…
Reliable quantum information processing requires high-fidelity universal manipulation of quantum systems within the characteristic coherence times. Non-adiabatic holonomic quantum computation offers a promising approach to implement fast, universal, and robust quantum logic gates particularly useful in nano-fabricated solid-state architectures, which typically have short coherence times. Here, we propose an experimentally feasible scheme to realize high-speed universal geometric quantum gates in nano-engineered pseudo-spin charge qubits. We use a system of three coupled quantum dots containing…
Time-dependent Fröhlich transformations can be used to derive an effective Hamiltonian for a class of quantum systems with time-dependent perturbations. We use such a transformation for a system with time-dependent atom-photon coupling induced by the classical motion of two atoms in an inhomogeneous electromagnetic field. We calculate the entanglement between the two atoms resulting from their motion through a cavity as a function of their initial position difference and velocity.
We explore and develop the mathematics of the two multi-level ions. In particular, we describe some new features of quantum entanglement in two three-level trapped ions confined in a one-dimensional harmonic potential, allowing the instantaneous position of the center-of-mass motion of the ions to be explicitly time-dependent. By solving the exact dynamics of the system, we show how survivability of the quantum entanglement is determined by a specific choice of the initial state settings.
We study the entanglement between the 2D vibrational motion and two ground state hyperfine levels of a trapped ion, Under particular conditions this entanglement depends on the parity of the total initial vibrational quanta. We study the robustness of this quantum coherence effect with respect to the presence of non-dissipative sources of decoherence, and of an imperfect initial state preparation.
We propose a polarization-dependent spatial phase modulation method to purify the two-photon polarization entanglement generated by the biexciton cascade decay in a single semiconductor quantum dot. In principle, our method can completely compensate the random phase acquired from the decay of the non-degenerate exciton states in time domain. In frequency domain, our method is equivalent to shifting photon frequency according to its polarization. The method can be applied immediately by existing experimental set-ups.
We model energy transfer between two coupled four-level chromophores with arbitrarily spaced energy levels. Our analysis takes into account the crucial---yet often ignored---process of initial excitation by light that is incident on the chromophores. We show that the amount of entanglement generated between the chromophores is strongly dependent on the degree of initial excitation as well as the inclusion of higher energy levels. We apply our model to the specific example of chlorophyll. Our results suggest that an excitation-dependent approach should be employed for entanglement studies on mu…
An exact solution of the problem of two-atom one- and two-mode Jaynes-Cummings model with intensity-dependent coupling is presented. Asymptotic solutions for system state vectors are obtained in the approximation of large initial coherent fields. The atom-field entanglement is investigated on the basis of the reduced atomic entropy dynamics. The possibility of the system being initially in a pure disentangled state to revive into this state during the evolution process for both models is shown. Conditions and times of disentanglement are derived.
The dynamics of mixedness and entanglement is examined by solving the time-dependent Schrödinger equation for three coupled harmonic oscillator system with arbitrary time-dependent frequency and coupling constants parameters. We assume that part of oscillators is inaccessible and remaining oscillators accessible. We compute the dynamics of entanglement between inaccessible and accessible oscillators. In order to show the dynamics pictorially we introduce three quenched models. In the quenched models both mixedness and entanglement exhibit oscillatory behavior in time with multi-frequencies. It…
We study the dynamics and redistribution of entanglement and coherence in three time-dependent coupled harmonic oscillators. We resolve the Schrödinger equation by using time-dependent Euler rotation together with a linear quench model to obtain the state of vacuum solution. Such state can be translated to the phase space picture to determine the Wigner distribution. We show that its Gaussian matrix $\mathbb{G}(t)$ can be used to directly cast the covariance matrix $σ(t)$. To quantify the mixedness and entanglement of the state one uses respectively linear and von Neumann entropies for three c…
We investigate the ground state and the thermal entanglement in the two-qubit Ising model interacting with a site-dependent magnetic field. The degree of entanglement is measured by calculating the concurrence. For zero temperature and for certain direction of the applied magnetic field, the quantum phase transition observed under a uniform external magnetic field disappears once a very small non-uniformity is introduced. Furthermore, we have shown analytically and confirmed numerically that once the direction of one of the magnetic field is along the Ising axis then no entangled states can be…
In this paper, we study theoretically the bipartite and tripartite continuous variable entanglement as well as the normal-mode splitting in a single-atom cavity optomechanical system with intensity-dependent coupling. The system under consideration is formed by a Fabry-Perot cavity with a thin vibrating end mirror and a two-level atom in the Gaussian standing-wave of the cavity mode. We first derive the general form of Hamiltonian describing the tripartite intensity-dependent atom-field-mirror coupling due to the presence of cavity mode structure. We then restrict our treatment to the first vi…
Using the Calogero-Moser model and the Nakamura equations for a multi-partite quantum system, we prove an inequality between the mean bi-partite entanglement rate of change under the variation of a critical parameter and the level-curvature. This provides an upper bound for the rate of production or distraction of entanglement induced dynamically. We then investigate the dependence of the upper bound on the degree of chaos of the system, which in turn, through the inequality, gives a measure of the stability of the entangled state. Our analytical results are supported with extensive numerical …
Quantum systems with adiabatic classical parameters are widely studied, e.g., in the modern holonomic quantum computation. We here provide complete geometric quantization of a Hamiltonian system with time-dependent parameters, without the adiabatic assumption. A Hamiltonian of such a system is affine in the temporal derivative of parameter functions. This leads to the geometric Berry factor phenomena.
Trace decreasing dynamical maps are as physical as trace preserving ones; however, they are much less studied. Here we overview how the quantum Sinkhorn theorem can be successfully applied to find a two-qubit entangled state which has the strongest robustness against local noises and losses of quantum information carriers. We solve a practically relevant problem of finding an optimal initial encoding to distribute entangled polarized qubits though communication lines with polarization dependent losses and extra depolarizing noise. The longest entanglement lifetime is shown to be attainable wit…
Entanglement and mixedness of a bipartite mixed state resource are crucial for the success of quantum teleportation. Upper bounds on measures of mixedness, namely, von Neumann entropy and linear entropy beyond which the bipartite state ceases to be useful for quantum teleportation are known in the literature. In this work, we generalize these bounds and obtain rank dependent upper bounds on von Nuemann entropy and linear entropy for an arbitrary bipartite mixed state resource. We observe that the upper bounds on measures of mixedness increase with increase in the rank. For two qubit mixed stat…
We study multipartite entanglement measures for a one-dimensional Ising chain that is capable of showing both integrable and nonintegrable behaviour. This model includes the kicked transverse Ising model, which we solve exactly using the Jordan-Wigner transform, as well as nonintegrable and mixing regimes. The cluster states arise as a special case and we show that while one measure of entanglement is large, another measure can be exponentially small, while symmetrizing these states with respect to up and down spins, produces those with large entanglement content uniformly. We also calculate e…
The mismatch between elegant theoretical models and the detailed experimental reality is particularly pronounced in quantum nonlinear interferometry (QNI). In stark contrast to theory, experiments contain pump beams that start in impure states and that are depleted, quantum noise that affects -- and drives -- any otherwise gradual build up of the signal and idler fields, and nonlinear materials that are far from ideal and have a complicated time-dependent dispersive response. Notably, we would normally expect group velocity mismatches to destroy any possibility of measurable or visible entangl…
We present an efficient scheme for the controlled generation of pure two-qubit states possessing {\em any} desired degree of entanglement and a {\em prescribed} symmetry in two cavity QED based systems, namely, cold trapped ions and flying atoms. This is achieved via on-resonance ion/atom-cavity couplings which are time-dependent and asymmetric, leading to a trapping vacuum state condition which does not arise for identical couplings. A duality in the role of the coupling ratio yields states with a given concurrence but opposing symmetries. The experimental feasibility of the proposed scheme i…
We study experimentally the lifetime of a special class of entangled states in an atomic clock, squeezed spin states. In the presence of anisotropic noise, their lifetime is strongly dependent on squeezing orientation. We measure the Allan deviation spectrum of a clock operated with a phase-squeezed input state. For integration times up to 50 s the squeezed clock achieves a given precision 2.8(3) times faster than a clock operating at the standard quantum limit.
We propose a protocol using a tunable Xmon qubit chain to construct generalized Su-Schrieffer-Heeger (SSH) models that support various topological phases. We study the time evolution of a single-excitation quantum state in a SSH-type qubit chain and find that such dynamics is linked to topological winding number. We also investigate the adiabatic transfer of a single-excitation quantum state in a generalized SSH-type qubit chain and show that this process can be connected with topological Chern number and be used to generate a novel entanglement-dependent topological pumping. All results have …
The cascaded decay in a four-level quantum emitter is a well established mechanism to generate polarization entangled photon pairs, the building blocks of many applications in quantum technologies. The four most prominent maximally entangled photon pair states are the Bell states. In a typical experiment based on an undriven emitter only one type of Bell state entanglement can be observed in a given polarization basis. Other types of Bell state entanglement in the same basis can be created by continuously driving the system by an external laser. In this work we propose a protocol for time-depe…
We derive explicitly the thermal state of the two coupled harmonic oscillator system when the spring and coupling constants are arbitrarily time-dependent. In particular, we focus on the case of sudden change of frequencies. In this case we compute purity function, Rényi and von Neumann entropies, and mutual information analytically and examine their temperature-dependence. We also discuss on the thermal entanglement phase transition by making use of the negativity-like quantity. Our calculation shows that the critical temperature $T_c$ increases with increasing the difference between the init…
The ability to unconditionally verify the location of a communication receiver would lead to a wide range of new security paradigms. However, it is known that unconditional location verification in classical communication systems is impossible. In this work we show how unconditional location verification can be achieved with the use of quantum communication channels. Our verification remains unconditional irrespective of the number of receivers, computational capacity, or any other physical resource held by an adversary. Quantum location verification represents a new application of quantum ent…
Producing and maintaining entanglement reside at the heart of the optimal construction of quan- tum operations and are fundamental issues in the realization of universal quantum computation. We here introduce a setup of spin qubits that allows for geometric implementation of entangling gates between the register qubits with any arbitrary entangling power. We show this by demon- strating a circuit through a spin chain, which performs universal nonadiabatic holonomic two-qubit entanglers. The proposed gates are all electric and geometric, which would help to realize fast and robust entangling ga…
In this paper, we study the interaction between a moving $Λ$-type three-level atom and a single-mode cavity field in the presence of intensity-dependent atom-field coupling. After obtaining the state vector of the entire system explicitly, we study the nonclassical features of the system such as quantum entanglement, position-momentum entropic squeezing, quadrature squeezing and sub-Poissonian statistics. According to the obtained numerical results we illustrate that the squeezed period, the duration of entropy squeezing and the maximal squeezing can be controlled by choosing the appropriate n…
We consider an infinite one dimensional anisotropic XY spin chain with a nearest neighbor time-dependent Heisenberg coupling J(t) between the spins in presence of a time-dependent magnetic field h(t). We discuss a general solution for the system and present an exact solution for particular choice of J and h of practical interest. We investigate the dynamics of entanglement for different degrees of anisotropy of the system and at both zero and finite temperatures. We find that the time evolution of entanglement in the system show non-ergodic and critical behavior at zero and finite temperatures…
he dynamical properties of quantum entanglement in a time-dependent three-level-trapped ion interacting with a laser field are studied in terms of the reduced-density linear entropy considering two specific initial states of the field. Allowing the instantaneous position of the center-of-mass motion of the ion to be explicitly time-dependent, it is shown that either sudden death of entanglement or survivability of quantum entanglement can be obtained with a specific choice of the initial state parameters. The difference in evolution picture corresponding to the multi-quanta processes is discus…

The position variance of a single-mode Yuen states can go below the standard quantum limit. For two-mode squeezed states, it is shown that the time-dependent evolution of the entanglement of formation can be contractive, going below that of the squeezed state with minimum Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen dispersions, and increasing thereafter. The rate of change of the Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen dispersions as a function of the two-mode phases control this process. Contractive entanglement is shown to be equivalent to a rotating phase space accompanied by time-dependent single-mode squeezing.
We consider a spin-1/2 anisotropic XY model with time-dependent spin-spin coupling as means of creating long-distance entanglement. We predict the emergence of significant entanglement between the first and the last spin whenever the ac part of the coupling has a frequency matching the Zeeman splitting. In particular, we find that the concurrence assumes its maximum with a vanishing dc part. Mapping the time-dependent Hamiltonian within a rotating-wave approximation to an effective static model provides qualitative and quantitative understanding of this entanglement resonance. Numerical result…
In this work, we extensively study the problem of broadcasting of entanglement as state dependent versus state independent cloners. We start by re-conceptualizing the idea of state dependent quantum cloning machine (SD-QCM), and in that process, we introduce different types of SD-QCMs, namely, orthogonal and non-orthogonal cloners. We derive the conditions for which the fidelity of these cloners will become independent of the input state. We note that such a construction allows us to maximize the cloning fidelity at the cost of having partial information of the input state. In the discussion o…
We study, from a thermodynamic perspective, the equilibrium states of a qubit interacting with an arbitrary environment of dimension N>>2. We show that even in presence of memory about the initial state, in some cases the qubit can be considered in a thermal state characterized by an entanglement Hamiltonian, which encodes the effects of the environment, and an initial-state- dependent entanglement temperature that measures the degree of entanglement generated between the system and its environment. Geometrical aspects of the thermal states are studied, and the results are confirmed for the co…
