A connection in Kubo-Ando sense is a binary operation for positive operators on a Hilbert space satisfying the monotonicity, the transformer inequality and the continuity from above. A mean is a connection $σ$ such that $A σA =A$ for all positive operators $A$. In this paper, we consider the interplay between the cone of connections, the cone of operator monotone functions on $\R^+$ and the cone of finite Borel measures on $[0,\infty]$. %We define a norm for a connection in such a way that the set of operator connections becomes %a normed ordered cone. %On the other hand, the cone of operator monotone functions on $\R^+$ %and the cone of finite Borel measures on $[0,\infty]$ are equipped with suitable norms. The set of operator connections is shown to be isometrically order-isomorphic, as normed ordered cones, to the set of operator monotone functions on $\R^+$. This set is isometrically isomorphic, as normed cones, to the set of finite Borel measures on $[0,\infty]$. It follows that the convergences of the sequence of connections, the sequence of their representing functions and the sequence of their representing measures are equivalent. In addition, we obtain characterizations for a connection to be a mean. In fact, a connection is a mean if and only if it has norm 1.
In this paper, we introduce the cone normed spaces and cone bounded linear mappings. Among other things, we prove the Baire category theorem and the Banach--Steinhaus theorem in cone normed spaces.
Nonstandard hulls of a vector lattice were introduced and studied in \cite{E10,E9,E7,E5,E3}. In recent paper \cite{EG}, these notions were extended to ordered vector spaces. In the present paper, following the construction of associated Banach-Kantorovich space \cite{E8}, we describe and investigate nonstandard hull of a lattice-normed space, which is a generalization of nonstandard hull of a normed space.
Given a normed cone $(X,p)$ and a subcone $Y,$ we construct and study the quotient normed cone $(X/Y,\tilde{p})$ generated by $Y$. In particular we characterize the bicompleteness of $(X/Y,\tilde{p})$ in terms of the bicompleteness of $(X,p),$ and prove that the dual quotient cone $((X/Y)^{*},\|\cdot \|_{\tilde{p},u})$ can be identified as a distinguished subcone of the dual cone $(X^{*},\|\cdot \|_{p,u})$. Furthermore, some parts of the theory are presented in the general setting of the space $CL(X,Y)$ of all continuous linear mappings from a normed cone $(X,p)$ to a normed cone $(Y,q),$ exte…
The tensor product of two ordered vector spaces can be ordered in more than one way, just as the tensor product of normed spaces can be normed in multiple ways. Two natural orderings have received considerable attention in the past, namely the ones given by the projective and injective (or biprojective) cones. This paper aims to show that these two cones behave similarly to their normed counterparts, and furthermore extends the study of these two cones from the algebraic tensor product to completed locally convex tensor products. The main results in this paper are the following: (i) drawing pa…
We give two characterizations of cones over ellipsoids in real normed vector spaces. Let $C$ be a closed convex cone with nonempty interior such that $C$ has a bounded section of codimension $1$. We show that $C$ is a cone over an ellipsoid if and only if every bounded section of $C$ has a center of symmetry. We also show that $C$ is a cone over an ellipsoid if and only if the affine span of $\partial C \cap \partial(a - C)$ has codimension $1$ for every point $a$ in the interior of $C$. These results generalize the finite-dimensional cases proved in (Jerónimo-Castro and McAllister, 2013).
It is well known that an ordered normed vector space $X$ with normal cone $X_+$ has an order-preserving norm that is equivalent to the original norm. Such an equivalent order-preserving norm is given by \begin{equation} \sharp x \sharp = \max \{ d(x, X_+), d(x, - X_+)\}, \qquad x \in X. \end{equation} This paper explores the properties of this norm and of the half-norm $ψ(x) = d(x,-X_+)$ independently of whether or not the cone is normal. We use $ψ$ to derive comparison principles for the solutions of abstract integral equations, derive conditions for point-dissipativity of nonlinear positive …
We define new norms for symmetric tensors over ordered normed spaces; these norms are defined by considering linear combinations of tensor products or powers of positive elements only. Relations between the different norms are studied. The results are applied to the problem of representing a finitely exchangeable distribution as a mixture of powers, i.e, mixture of distributions of i.i.d. sequences, using a signed mixing measure.
We characterize $M$-ideals in order smooth $\infty$-normed spaces by extending the notion of split faces of the state space to those of the quasi-state space. We also characterize approximate order unit spaces as those order smooth $\infty$-normed spaces $V$ that are $M$-ideals in $\tilde{V}.$ Here $\tilde{V}$ is the order unit space obtained by adjoining an order unit to $V.$ To prove these results, we develop an order theoretic version of the "Alfsen-Efffros' cone decomposition theorem" for order smooth $1$-normed spaces. (As a quick application of this result, we sharpen a result on the ext…
In this paper, we define and study the space of all the functions of bounded variation $f:[x,y]\to \mathbb{Y}$ denoted by $\mathcal{BV}[x,y],$ where $[x,y]$ is an ordered interval and $\mathbb{Y}$ is an absolute order unit space having vector lattice structure. By default, under the order structure of $\mathbb{Y},$ the space $\mathcal{BV}[x,y]$ forms a nearer absolute order unit space structure and in some cases it turns out to be an absolute order unit space (in fact, a unital $AM$-space). By help of variation function, we also define a different kind of order structure on the space $\mathcal…
We introduce a notion of p-orthogonality in a general Banach space $1 \le p \le \infty$. We use this concept to characterize $\ell_p$-spaces among Banach spaces and also among complete order smooth p-normed spaces. We further introduce a notion of $p$-orthogonal decomposition in order smooth p-normed spaces. We prove that if the $\infty$-orthogonal decomposition holds in an order smooth $\infty$-normed space, then the 1-orthogonal decomposition holds in the dual space. We also give an example to show that the above said decomposition may not be unique.
In this paper, we investigate the continuity of linear and sublinear correspondences defined on cones in normed spaces. We also generalize some known results for sublinear correspondences.
We introduce lexicographic cones, a method of assigning an ordered vector space $\Lex(S)$ to a poset $S$, generalising the standard lexicographic cone. These lexicographic cones are then used to prove that the projective tensor cone of two arbitrary cones is a cone, and to find a new characterisation of finite-dimensional vector lattices.
We generalize some results of Borwein, Burke, Lewis, and Wang to mappings with values in metric (resp. ordered normed linear) spaces. We define two classes of monotone mappings between an ordered linear space and a metric space (resp. ordered linear space): $K$-monotone dominated and cone-to-cone monotone mappings. First we show some relationships between these classes. Then, we study continuity and differentiability (also in the metric and $w^*$ senses) of mappings in these classes.
In this paper, the notion of $c$-support points of a set in a semitopological cone is introduced. It is shown that any nonempty convex Scott closed bounded set has a $c$-support point in a cancellative $bd$-cone under certain condition. We also introduce the notion of $wd$-cone and then we prove a Bishop-Phelps type theorem for $wd$-cones, especially for normed cones, under appropriate conditions. Finally, using of the Bishop-Phelps technique, we obtain a result about the fixed points of a mapping on $s$-cones.
The aim of this paper is to present some fixed point theorems for generalized contractions by altering distance functions in a complete cone metric spaces endowed with a partial order. We also generalize fixed point theorems of J. Harjani, K. Sadarangani [J. Harjani, K. Sadarangani, Generalized contractions in partially ordered metric spaces and applications to ordinary differential equations, Nonlinear Analysis 72 (2010) 1188-1197] from metric spaces to cone metric spaces.
The aim of this paper is to present a survey of some recent results obtained in the study of spaces with asymmetric norm. The presentation follows the ideas from the theory of normed spaces (topology, continuous linear operators, continuous linear functionals, duality, geometry of asymmetric normed spaces, compact operators) emphasizing similarities as well as differences with respect to the classical theory. The main difference comes form the fact that the dual of an asymmetric normed space $X$ is not a linear space, but merely a convex cone in the space of all linear functionals on $X.$ Due …

M. Krein proved in 1948 that if T is a continuous operator on a normed space leaving invariant an open cone, then its adjoint T* has an eigenvector. We present generalizations of this result as well as some applications to C*-algebras, operators on l_1, operators with invariant sets, contractions on Banach lattices, the Invariant Subspace Problem, and von Neumann algebras.
In this paper we show that by renorming an ordered Banach space, every cone P can be converted to a normal cone with constant K = 1 and consequently due to this approach every cone metric space is really a metric one and every theorem in metric space valid for cone metric space automatically.
A version of the classical Klee-Andô Theorem states the following: For every Banach space $X$, ordered by a closed generating cone $C\subseteq X$, there exists some $α>0$ so that, for every $x\in X$, there exist $x^{\pm}\in C$ so that $x=x^{+}-x^{-}$ and $\|x^{+}\|+\|x^{-}\|\leqα\|x\|$. The conclusion of the Klee-Andô Theorem is what is known as a conormality property. We prove stronger and somewhat more general versions of the Klee-Andô Theorem for both conormality and coadditivity (a property that is intimately related to conormality). A corollary to our result shows that the functions $x\ma…
We define the finest order on inductive limits of ordered cones which makes the linear mappings monotone and gives rise to the definition of inductive limit topologies for cones. Using the polars of neighborhoods, we establish embeddings between direct sums, inductive limits and their duals. These lead us to investigate the weak topologies and the topologies of pointwise convergence in inductive limits.
We consider a monotone increasing operator in an ordered Banach space having $u_-$ and $u_+$ as a strong super- and subsolution, respectively. In contrast with the well studied case $u_+ < u_-$, we suppose that $u_- < u_+$. Under the assumption that the order cone is normal and minihedral, we prove the existence of a fixed point located in the ordered interval $[u_-,u_+].$
We give an overview of normality and conormality properties of pre-ordered Banach spaces. For pre-ordered Banach spaces $X$ and $Y$ with closed cones we investigate normality of $B(X,Y)$ in terms of normality and conormality of the underlying spaces $X$ and $Y$. Furthermore, we define a class of ordered Banach spaces called quasi-lattices which strictly contains the Banach lattices, and we prove that every strictly convex reflexive ordered Banach space with a closed proper generating cone is a quasi-lattice. These spaces provide a large class of examples $X$ and $Y$ that are not Banach lattice…
We augment the dimension of the Euclidean space by one and the Picard iteration of a contraction by a simple iteration on the real line such that the resulting iteration becomes monotone increasing and bounded with respect to the order defined by the Lorentz cone of the augmented space. This provides a different way of showing the convergence of the Picard iteration of a contraction, exhibiting the strong relationship between the Banach fixed point principle and the ordering structure of the Euclidean space ordered by the Lorentz cone.
Loewner partial order plays a very important role in metric topology and operator inequality on the open convex cone of positive invertible operators. In this paper we consider a family G of the ordered means for positive invertible operators equipped with homogeneity and properties related to the Loewner partial order such as the monotonicity, joint concavity, and arithmetic-G-harmonic weighted mean inequalities. Similar to the resolvent average, we construct a parameterized ordered mean and compare two types of the mixture of parameterized ordered means in terms of the Loewner order. We also…
We study the question when for a given *-algebra $\mathcal{A}$ a sequence of cones $C_n\in M_n(\mathcal{A})$ can be realized as cones of positive operators in a faithful *-representation of $\mathcal{A}$ on a Hilbert space. A characterization of operator algebras which are completely boundedly isomorphic to $C\sp*$-algebras is presented.
In the setting of real vector spaces, we establish a general set-valued Ekeland variational principle (briefly, denoted by EVP), where the objective function is a set-valued map taking values in a real vector space quasi-ordered by a convex cone $K$ and the perturbation consists of a $K$-convex subset $H$ of the ordering cone $K$ multiplied by the distance function. Here, the assumption on lower boundedness of the objective function is taken to be the weakest kind. From the general set-valued EVP, we deduce a number of particular versions of set-valued EVP, which extend and improve the related…
The general notion of a stochastic ordering is that one probability distribution is smaller than a second one if the second attaches more probability to higher values than the first. Motivated by recent work on barycentric maps on spaces of probability measures on ordered Banach spaces, we introduce and study a stochastic order on the space of probability measures $\mathcal{P}(X)$, where $X$ is a metric space equipped with a closed partial order, and derive several useful equivalent versions of the definition. We establish the antisymmetry and closedness of the stochastic order (and hence that…
