A number of bound states properties and the hyperfine structure of the 23S(L=0)-state in the Be atom are determined from the results of highly accurate computations. The energies of the hyperfine structure levels for this state are ε(F=12) = -13725.635(7) MHz, ε(F=32) = -5490.254(7) MHz and ε(F=52) = 8235.381(7) MHz, respectively. The hyperfine structure splittings are Δ12 = 8235.381(7) MHz and Δ23 = 13725.635(7) MHz, respectively. The spectrum of low-lying (bound) triplet states in the Be atom is briefly investigated.
The precision measurements of the ratio of hyperfine structure constants for $s_{1/2}$ and $p_{1/2}$ states allow us to estimate the difference between hyperfine magnetic anomalies for these levels. We calculate the atomic factor in order to recover the absolute values of the hyperfine magnetic anomalies from their difference. Taking into account the hyperfine anomaly correction allows one to increase the accuracy of determining the g-factors of short-lived isotopes by more than an order of magnitude.
Hyperfine structures of the triplet $n^3S-$states in the four-electron Be-atom(s) and Be-like ions are considered. It is shown that to determine the hyperfine structure splitting in such atomic systems one needs to know the triplet electron density at the central atomic nucleus $ρ_T(0)$. We have developed the procedure which allows allows one to determine such an electron density $ρ_T(0)$ for arbitrary four-electron atoms and ions.
Spherically-symmetric ground states of alkali-metal atoms do not posses electric quadrupole moments. However, the hyperfine interaction between nuclear moments and atomic electrons distorts the spherical symmetry of electronic clouds and leads to non-vanishing atomic quadrupole moments. We evaluate these hyperfine-induced quadrupole moments using techniques of relativistic many-body theory and compile results for Li, Na, K, Rb, and Cs atoms. For heavy atoms we find that the hyperfine-induced quadrupole moments are strongly (two orders of magnitude) enhanced by correlation effects. We further a…
We present the relativistic calculation of the hyperfine structure in pionic and kaonic atoms. A perturbation method has been applied to the Klein-Gordon equation to take into account the relativistic corrections. The perturbation operator has been obtained \textit{via} a multipole expansion of the nuclear electromagnetic potential. The hyperfine structure of pionic and kaonic atoms provide an additional term in the quantum electrodynamics calculation of the energy transition of these systems. Such a correction is required for a recent measurement of the pion mass.
Collisions with chemically inert atoms or molecules change the hyperfine coupling of an alkali-metal atom through the hyperfine-shift interaction. This interaction is responsible for the pressure shifts of the microwave resonances of alkali-metal atoms in buffer gases, is an important spin interaction in alkali-metal--noble-gas van der Waals molecules, and is anticipated to enable the magnetoassociation of ultracold molecules such as RbSr. An improved estimate is presented for the long-range asymptote of this interaction for Na, K, Rb, and Cs. To test the results, the change in hyperfine coupl…
We have measured hyperfine structure in the first-excited $P$ state ($D$ lines) of all the naturally-occurring alkali atoms. We use high-resolution laser spectroscopy to resolve hyperfine transitions, and measure intervals by locking the frequency shift produced by an acousto-optic modulator to the difference between two transitions. In most cases, the hyperfine coupling constants derived from our measurements improve previous values significantly.
We report on our calculations of differential hyperfine anomalies in the nuclear single-particle model for a number of atoms and ions of interest for studies of fundamental symmetries violations. Comparison with available experimental data allows one to discriminate between different nuclear magnetization models, and this data supports the use of the nuclear single-particle model over the commonly-used uniform ball model. Accurate modelling of the nuclear magnetization distribution is important for testing atomic theory through hyperfine comparisons. The magnetization distribution must be adeq…
The static and dynamic electric-dipole polarizabilities and tune-out wavelengths for the ground state of Cs atoms are calculated by using a semiempirical relativistic configuration interaction plus core polarization approach. By considering the hyperfine splittings, the static and dynamic polarizabilities, hyperfine Stark shifts, and tune-out wavelengths of the hyperfine components of the ground level of $^{133}$Cs atoms are determined. It is found that the hyperfine shifts of the first primary tune-out wavelengths are about $-$0.0135 nm and 0.0106 nm, which are very close to the hyperfine int…
We experimentally study the breakdown of hyperfine coupling for an atom in a deep optical-dipole trap. One-color laser spectroscopy is performed at the resonance lines of a single $^{87}$Rb atom for a trap wavelength of 1064 nm. Evidence of hyperfine breakdown comes from three observations, namely a nonlinear dependence of the transition frequencies on the trap intensity, a splitting of lines which are degenerate for small intensities, and the ability to drive transitions which would be forbidden by selection rules in the absence of hyperfine breakdown. From the data, we infer the hyperfine in…
We apply relativistic many-body methods to compute static differential polarizabilities for transitions inside the ground-state hyperfine manifolds of monovalent atoms and ions. Knowing this transition polarizability is required in a number of high-precision experiments, such as microwave atomic clocks and searches for CP-violating permanent electric dipole moments. While the traditional polarizability arises in the second-order of interaction with the externally-applied electric field, the differential polarizability involves additional contribution from the hyperfine interaction of atomic el…
We report a hyperfine-states related weak equivalence principle (WEP) test which searches for possible WEP violation signal in single atom interferometer. With the ground hyperfine states $\left|F=1\right\rangle$ and $\left|F=2\right\rangle$ of $^{87}$Rb atoms simultaneously scanned over different paths in a Raman Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI), the difference of the free fall accelerations for the atom in the two hyperfine states is encoded into the phase shift of the MZI, contributing a WEP test signal. The test signal can be extracted out by reversing the direction of the effective wave …
Ultracold molecules with both electron spin and an electric dipole moment offer new possibilities in quantum science. We use density-functional theory to calculate hyperfine coupling constants for a selection of molecules important in this area, including RbSr, LiYb, RbYb, CaF and SrF. We find substantial hyperfine coupling constants for the fermionic isotopes of the alkaline-earth and Yb atoms. We discuss the hyperfine level patterns and Zeeman splittings expected for these molecules. The results will be important both to experiments aimed at forming ultracold open-shell molecules and to thei…
The hyperfine splitting in hydrogenlike $^{209}$Bi, $^{203}$Tl, and $^{205}$Tl is calculated with the nuclear magnetization determined from experimental data on the hyperfine splitting in the corresponding muonic atoms. The single-particle and configuration-mixing nuclear models are considered. The QED corrections are taken into account for both electronic and muonic atoms. The obtained results are compared with other calculations and with experiment.
The usefulness of study of hyperfine splitting in the hydrogen atom is limited on a level of 10 ppm by our knowledge of the proton structure. One way to go beyond 10 ppm is to study a specific difference of the hyperfine structure intervals 8 Delta nu_2 - Delta nu_1. Nuclear effects for are not important this difference and it is of use to study higher-order QED corrections.
NRQED approach to the fine and hyperfine structure corrections of order m$α$ 6 and m$α$ 6 (m/M)-Application to the hydrogen atom The NRQED approach is applied to the calculation of relativistic corrections to the fine and hyperfine structure of hydrogenlike atoms at orders m$α$ 6 and m$α$ 6 (m/M). Results are found to be in agreement with those of the relativistic theory. This confirms that the derived NRQED effective potentials are correct, and may be used for studying more complex atoms or molecules. Furthermore, we verify the equivalence between different forms of the NRQED Lagrangian used …
Calculations of the magnetic hyperfine structure rely on the input of nuclear properties -- nuclear magnetic moments and nuclear magnetization distributions -- as well as quantum electrodynamic (QED) radiative corrections for high-accuracy evaluation in heavy atoms. The uncertainties associated with assumed values of these properties limit the accuracy of hyperfine calculations. For example, for the heavy alkali-metal atoms Cs and Fr, these uncertainties may amount collectively to almost 1\% or 2\%, respectively. In this paper we propose a method for removing the dependence of hyperfine struct…
We have measured the frequency splitting between the $(2S, F=1/2)$ and $(2S, F=3/2)$ hyperfine sublevels in atomic deuterium by an optical differential method based on two-photon Doppler-free spectroscopy on a cold atomic beam. The result $f_{\rm HFS}^{(D)}(2S)= 40 924 454(7)$ Hz is the most precise value for this interval to date. In comparison to the previous radio-frequency measurement we have improved the accuracy by the factor of three. The specific combination of hyperfine frequency intervals for metastable- and ground states in deuterium atom $D_{21}=8f_{\rm HFS}^{(D)}(2S)-f_{\rm HFS}^{…
Removal energies and hyperfine constants of the lowest four $ns, np_{1/2}$ and $np_{3/2}$ states in Na, K, Rb and Cs are calculated; removal energies of the n=7--10 states and hyperfine constants of the n=7 and 8 states in Fr are also calculated. The calculations are based on the relativistic single-double (SD) approximation in which single and double excitations of Dirac-Hartree-Fock (DHF) wave functions are included to all-orders in perturbation theory. Using SD wave functions, accurate values of removal energies, electric-dipole matrix elements and static polarizabilities are obtained, howe…
The quantum resonances of an atom possessing a single valence electron which shows hyperfine interaction with the nucleus is investigated in the presence of a three dimensional magnetic quadrupole field. Particular emphasis is put on the study of the interplay of the hyperfine and quadrupole forces. Analyzing the underlying Hamiltonian a variety of symmetries are revealed which give rise to a two-fold degeneracy of the resonance energies. Our numerical approach employs the complex scaling method and a Sturmian basis set. Several regimes and classes of short-lived and long-lived resonances are …
We observe a density-dependent collective suppression of optical pumping between the hyperfine ground states in an array of submicrometer-sized clouds of cold rubidium atoms. The suppressed Raman transition rate can be explained by strong resonant dipole-dipole interactions that are enhanced by increasing atom density. The observations are consistent with stochastic electrodynamics simulations that incorporate the effects of the nonlinear population transfer via internal atomic levels embedded in a coupled-dipole model.
The multiconfiguration Dirac-Hartree-Fock (MCDHF) model has been employed to calculate the expectation values for the hyperfine splittings of the 5d96s2 2D3/2 and 5d96s2 2D5/2 levels of atomic gold. One-, two-, and three-body electron correlation effects involving all 79 electrons have been included in a systematic manner. The approximation employed in this study is equivalent to a Complete Active Space (CAS) approach. Calculated electric field gradients, together with experimental values of the electric quadrupole hyperfine structure constants, allow us to extract a nuclear electric quadrupol…
We analyze second-order $M1$-$M1$ and $M1$-$E2$ effects to the hyperfine structure (HFS) of the lowest energy $P$ states of alkali-metal atoms arising from the coupling of the two ($J=1/2,3/2$) fine-structure levels through the hyperfine interaction. We find these effects to be especially sizable in Li, leading to a $9σ$ correction to the most accurate reported experimental value of the $A(P_{1/2})$ HFS constant of $^7$Li [D. Das and V. Natarajan, J. Phys. B \textbf{41}, 035001 (2008)]. For the remaining alkali-metal systems, the results tabulated within may be referenced as higher precision i…
The creation and detection of atomic polarization is examined theoretically, through the study of basic optical-pumping mechanisms and absorption and fluorescence measurements, and the dependence of these processes on the size of ground- and excited-state hyperfine splittings is determined. The consequences of this dependence are studied in more detail for the case of nonlinear magneto-optical rotation in the Faraday geometry (an effect requiring the creation and detection of rank-two polarization in the ground state) with alkali atoms. Analytic formulas for the optical rotation signal under v…
A method for precise calculation of the energy corrections due to second order electric quadrupole interactions, as well as mixed electric quadrupole-vacuum polarization in the framework of the dynamic hyperfine structure in heavy muonic atoms is presented. For this, a multipole expansion of the Uehling potential is performed. The approach is applicable for an arbitrary nuclear electric charge distribution. By performing these calculations for muonic Rhenium and Uranium using a deformed Fermi distribution, it is shown that both corrections contribute on a level presumably visible in upcoming e…
Precision calculations of the fine and hyperfine structure of muonic atoms are performed in a relativistic approach and results for muonic 205 Bi, 147 Sm, and 89 Zr are presented. The hyperfine structure due to magnetic dipole and electric quadrupole splitting is calculated in first order perturbation theory, using extended nuclear charge and current distributions. The leading correction from quantum electrodynamics, namely vacuum polarization in Uehling approximation, is included as a potential directly in the Dirac equation. Also, an effective screening potential due to the surrounding elect…
The Zeeman hyperfine state dependent force in a Stern-Gerlach (SG) experiment has been exploited to separate and detect atoms having different Zeeman hyperfine states in a cold atom cloud. Utilizing this SG technique, we have made the quantitative estimate of atoms in different Zeeman hyperfine states in an atom cloud, which has been helpful in optimizing the optical pumping of atoms for efficient preparation of atomic state. Employing an optimized optical pumping, nearly $92 \% $ of cold $^{87}Rb$ atoms from a grey magneto-optical trap (G-MOT) on atom-chip have been optically pumped to the tr…
Nonlinear magneto-optical Faraday rotation (NMOR) on the potassium D1 and D2 lines was used to study Zeeman relaxation rates in an antirelaxation paraffin-coated 3-cm diameter potassium vapor cell. Intrinsic Zeeman relaxation rates of $γ^{NMOR}/2π=2.0(6) {\rm Hz}$ were observed. The relatively small hyperfine intervals in potassium lead to significant differences in NMOR in potassium compared to rubidium and cesium. Using laser optical pumping, widths and frequency shifts were also determined for transitions between ground-state hyperfine sublevels of $^{39}$K atoms contained in the same paraf…
Analysis of hyperfine structure constants of singly ionised cobalt (Co II) were performed on cobalt spectra measured by Fourier transform spectrometers in the region $3000-63000$ cm$^{-1}$ ($3333-159$ nm). Fits to over $700$ spectral lines led to measurements of $292$ magnetic dipole hyperfine interaction $A$ constants, with values between $-32.5$ mK and $59.5$ mK ($1$ mK $=0.001$ cm$^{-1}$). Uncertainties of $255$ A constants were between $\pm0.4$ mK and $\pm3.0$ mK, the remaining $37$ ranged up to $\pm7$ mK. The electric quadrupole hyperfine interaction $B$ constant could be estimated for on…
We report electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) in cold 85Rb atoms, trapped in the lower hyperfine level F = 2, of the ground state 5$^{2}S_{1/2}$ (Tiwari V B \textit{et al} 2008 {\it Phys. Rev.} A {\bf 78} 063421). Two steady state $Λ$-type systems of hyperfine energy levels are investigated using probe transitions into the levels F$^{\prime}$ = 2 and F$^{\prime}$ = 3 of the excited state 5$^{2}P_{3/2}$ in the presence of coupling transitions F = 3 $\to$ F$^{\prime}$ = 2 and F = 3 $\to$ F$^{\prime}$ = 3, respectively. The effects of uncoupled magnetic sublevel transitions and couplin…
In previous work devoted to {\it ab initio} calculations of hyperfine structure constants in nitrogen and fluorine atoms, we observed sizeable relativistic effects, a priori unexpected for such light systems, that can even largely dominate over electron correlation. We observed that the atomic wave functions calculated in the Breit-Pauli approximation describe adequately the relevant atomic levels and hyperfine structures, even in cases for which a small relativistic $LS$-term mixing becomes crucial. In the present work we identify new levels belonging to the spectroscopic terms $2p^4(^3\!P) 3…
We consider the most accurate tests of bound state QED theory of the hyperfine splitting in two-body atoms related to the HFS interval of the 1s state in muonium and positronium and the 2s state in hydrogen, deuterium and the helium-3 ion. We summarize their QED theory and pay special attention to involved effects of strong interactions and to recent optical measurements of the 2s HFS interval in hydrogen and deuterium. We present results for specific ratios of the 1s-2s frequencies in hydrogen and deuterium which happen to be among the most accurately measured and calculated quantities.
Hyperfine quenching rates of the lowest-energy metastable $^3P_0$ and $^3P_2$ states of Mg, Ca, Sr, and Yb atoms are computed. The calculations are carried out using ab initio relativistic many-body methods. The computed lifetimes may be useful for designing novel ultra-precise optical clocks and trapping experiments with the $3P_2$ fermionic isotopes. The resulting natural widths of the $^3P_0 -> ^1S_0$ clock transition are 0.44 mHz for $^{25}$Mg, 2.2 mHz for $^{43}$Ca, 7.6 mHz for $^{87}$Sr, 43.5 mHz for $^{171}$Yb, and 38.5 mHz for $^{173}$Yb. Compared to the bosonic isotopes, the lifetime …
The theory is developed for one and two atom interactions when the atom has a Rydberg electron attached to a hyperfine split core state. This situation is relevant for some of the rare earth and alkaline earth atoms that have been proposed for experiments on Rydberg-Rydberg interactions. For the rare earth atoms, the core electrons can have a very substantial total angular momentum, $J$, and a non-zero nuclear spin, $I$. In the alkaline earth atoms there is a single, $s$, core electron whose spin can couple to a non-zero nuclear spin for odd isotopes. The resulting hyperfine splitting of the c…
A calculation of the one-loop self-energy and vacuum-polarization corrections to the hyperfine splitting of the 1s and 2s states in light H-like ions is carried out to all orders in the parameter Z α. Using the known values for the Z α-expansion coefficients, the numerical data obtained are extrapolated from Z=5 and higher to Z=0, 1, and 2, with the resulting accuracy being significantly better than in previous evaluations. Our calculation shifts the theoretical value of the normalized difference of the 1s and 2s hyperfine-structure intervals in ^3He^+ by 0.056 kHz and improves its accuracy.
This study addresses the effect of the magnetic hyperfine interaction on the relativistic H1s wave functions. These are used to calculate the electric, magnetic, and confinement force densities acting on the 1s electron. The magnetic field couples Dirac equations for different angular momenta. These are solved numerically for the hyperfine singlet and triplet, as well as for a classical magnetic dipole. In the singlet ground state the hyperfine interaction shifts the electron density toward the proton. A similar shift is found for the classical dipole, and an opposite shift for the triplet. Th…
Sum rules for the energy levels of a hyperfine multiplet in a constant uniform magnetic field is presented. It is found that for any values of the electron angular moment and the nuclear spin there are certain linear combinations of energy levels which do not depend on the magnetic field and can be used to determine the unperturbated hfs separation in the presence of perturbing magnetic field. It is also demonstrated that there are other linear combinations which are linear with the external magnetic field and hence can be used to determine bound values of the electron and nuclear magnetic mom…
Stark-induced electric dipole amplitudes between states of the same nominal parity can be important in experiments to observe parity nonconservation in atoms. The Stark-induced E1 amplitudes are expressed in terms of an irreducible spherical-tensor decomposition. This formalism is applied to the specific case of transitions between hyperfine sublevels of a single atomic state. It is shown that in the ground states of alkali atoms, such transitions are suppressed by many orders of magnitude relative to naive expectations.
We perform accurate calculations of energy levels as well as fine and hyperfine splittings of the lowest $^{1,3}\!P_J$, $^{3}\!S_1$, $^{3}\!P^e_J$, and $^{1,3}\!D_J$ excited states of the $^9$Be atom using explicitly correlated Gaussian functions and report on the breakdown of the standard hyperfine structure theory. Because of the strong hyperfine mixing, which prevents the use of common hyperfine constants, we formulate a description of the fine and hyperfine structure that is valid for an arbitrary coupling strength and may have wide applications in many other atomic systems.
The microwave resonant frequencies of ground-state 87Rb and 133Cs atoms in Xe buffer gas are shown to have a relatively large nonlinear dependence on the Xe pressure, presumably because of RbXe or CsXe van der Waals molecules. The nonlinear shifts for Xe are opposite in sign to the previously measured shifts for Ar and Kr, even though all three gases have negative linear shifts. The Xe data show striking discrepancies with the previous theory for nonlinear shifts. Most of this discrepancy is eliminated by accounting for the spin-rotation interaction in addition to the hyperfine-shift interacti…
We present tables for the bound-state energies for atomic hydrogen. The tabulated energies include the hyperfine structure, and thus this work extends the work of Rev. Mod. Phys. {\bf 84}, 1527 (2012), which excludes hyperfine structure. The tabulation includes corrections of the hyperfine structure due to the anomalous moment of the electron, due to the finite mass of the proton, and due to off-diagonal matrix elements of the hyperfine Hamiltonian. These corrections are treated incorrectly in most other works. Simple formulas valid for all quantum numbers are presented for the hyperfine corre…
We present a novel optical cooling scheme that relies on hyperfine dark states to enhance loading and cooling atoms inside deep optical dipole traps. We demonstrate a seven-fold increase in the number of atoms loaded in the conservative potential with strongly shifted excited states. In addition, we use the energy selective dark-state to efficiently cool the atoms trapped inside the conservative potential rapidly and without losses. Our findings open the door to optically assisted cooling of trapped atoms and molecules which lack the closed cycling transitions normally needed to achieve low te…
In this paper we study the influence of electron screening on the Bohr-Weisskopf (BW) effect in many-electron atoms. The BW effect gives the finite-nucleus magnetization contribution to the hyperfine structure. Relativistic atomic many-body calculations are performed for s and p_1/2 states of several systems of interest for studies of atomic parity violation and time-reversal-violating electric dipole moments -- Rb, Cs, Fr, Ba+, Ra+, and Tl. For s states, electron screening effects are small, and the relative BW correction for hydrogenlike ions and neutral atoms is approximately the same. We r…
To search for the temporal variation of the fundamental constants one needs to know dependence of atomic transition frequencies on these constants. We study the dependence of the hyperfine structure of atomic $s$-levels on nuclear radius and, via radius, on quark masses. An analytical formula has been derived and tested by the numerical relativistic Hartree-Fock calculations for Rb, Cd$^+$, Cs, Yb$^+$ and Hg$^+$. The results of this work allow the use of the results of past and future atomic clock experiments and quasar spectra measurements to put constrains on time variation of the quark mass…
We describe an atom trapping mechanism based upon differential optical pumping between metastable hyperfine states by partially-displaced laser beams in the absence of a magnetic field. With realistic laser powers, trap spring constants should match or exceed those typical of magneto-optical traps, and highly flexible tailored trap shapes should be achievable. In a proof-of-principle experiment, we have combined a 1D implementation with magneto-optical trapping in the orthogonal directions, capturing ~10000 85Rb atoms. This is an author-created, un-copyedited version of an article published in…
Hyperfine structure of the ground $2^{2}S-$states of the three-electron atoms and ions is investigated. By using our recent numerical values for the doublet electron density at the atomic nucleus we determine the hyperfine structure of the ground (doublet) $2^{2}S-$state(s) in the ${}^{6}$Li and ${}^{7}$Li atoms. Our predicted values (228.2058 $MHz$ and 803.5581 $MHz$, respectivly) agree well with the experimental values 228.20528(8) $MHz$ (${}^{6}$Li) and 803.50404(48) $MHz$ (${}^{7}$Li (R.G. Schlecht and D.W. McColm, Phys. Rev. \textbf{142}, 11 (1966))). The hyperfine structures of a number …
Energy levels, magnetic dipole, and electric quadrupole hyperfine structure of the superheavy element rutherfordium (Rf, $Z$=104) and its first three ions are calculated using a combination of the configuration interaction, coupled-cluster single-doubles, and many-body perturbation theory techniques. The results are to be used in future interpretations of the measurements in terms of nuclear magnetic dipole and electric quadrupole momenta. To have a guide on the accuracy of the study, we perform similar calculations for hafnium (Hf, $Z$=72) and its ions. Hf is a lighter analog of Rf with a sim…
The interaction of two excited hydrogen atoms in metastable states constitutes a theoretically interesting problem because of the quasi-degenerate 2P_{1/2} levels which are removed from the 2S states only by the Lamb shift. The total Hamiltonian of the system is composed of the van der Waals Hamiltonian, the Lamb shift and the hyperfine effects. The van der Waals shift becomes commensurate with the 2S-2P_{3/2} fine-structure splitting only for close approach (R < 100 a_0, where a_0 is the Bohr radius) and one may thus restrict the discussion to the levels with n=2 and J=1/2 to good approximati…
We prepare mixtures of ultracold $^{39}$K atoms in various hyperfine spin states and $^{23}$Na$^{39}$K molecules in an optical dipole trap at a fixed magnetic field and study inelastic two-body atom-molecule collisions. We observe atom-molecule losses that are hyperfine dependent with a two-body loss rate far below the universal limit. We analyze the two-body loss dynamics based on the derivation of general and easy applicable analytic solutions for the differential equations describing the loss of an arbitrary number $γ$ of particles in a single collisional event.
We have systematically investigated the ground-state hyperfine structure for alkali-metal atoms ^{87}Rb, ^{133}Cs, ^{211}Fr and alkali-metal-like ions ^{135}Ba^+, ^{225}Ra^+, which are of particular interest for parity violation studies. The quantum electrodynamic one-loop radiative corrections have been rigorously evaluated within an extended Furry picture employing core-Hartree and Kohn-Sham atomic potentials. Moreover, the effect of the nuclear magnetization distribution on the hyperfine structure intervals has been studied in detail and its uncertainty has been estimated. Finally, the theo…
The hyperfine structures of the ground states in the ${}^{3}$He$^{2+} μ^{-} e^{-}$ and ${}^{4}$He$^{2+} μ^{-} e^{-}$ helium-muonic atoms are investigated with the use of highly accurate variational wave functions. The differences between corresponding levels of hyperfine structure (i.e. hyperfine splittings) are determined to very high numerical accuracy. In particular, we have found that the hyperfine structure splitting in the ground state of the ${}^{4}$He$^{2+} μ^{-} e^{-}$ atom is $Δν\approx 4464.55454(3)$ $MHz$, while analogous splitting for the ${}^{3}$He$^{2+}μ^{-}e^{-}$ atom is $Δν\ap…
Mesoscopic interference effects in multiple scattering of photons depend crucially on the internal structure of the scatterers. In the present article, we develop the analytical theory of multiple photon scattering by cold atoms with arbitrary internal hyperfine multiplets. For a specific application, we calculate the enhancement factor of elastic coherent backscattering as a function of detuning from an entire hyperfine multiplet of neighboring resonances that cannot be considered isolated. Our theory permits to understand why atoms behave differently from classical Rayleigh point-dipole scat…
The recoil, vacuum polarization and electron vertex corrections of first and second orders in the fine structure constant $α$ and the ratio of electron to muon and electron to α-particle masses are calculated in the hyperfine splitting of the $1s^{(e)}_{1/2}2s^{(μ)}_{1/2}$ state of muonic helium atom (μe ^4_2He) on the basis of a perturbation theory. We obtain total result for the muonically excited state hyperfine splitting $Δν^{hfs}=4295.66$ MHz which improves previous calculations due to the account of new corrections and more accurate treatment of the electron vertex contribution.
