Ito-Takimura recently defined a splice-unknotting number $u^-(D)$ for knot diagrams. They proved that this number provides an upper bound for the crosscap number of any prime knot, asking whether equality holds in the alternating case. We answer their question in the affirmative. The set $\mathit{RT}(M)$ of values of the $\mathit{SL}(2,\mathbb{C})$-Reidemeister torsion of a 3-manifold $M$ can be both finite and infinite. We fix a null-homologous, homotopically essential knot $J$ in a 3-manifold with PTFA fundamental group and study concordance of knots that are homotopic to $J$. We construct an infinite family of knots that are characteristic to $J$, and then use $L^2$-methods to show that they are not concordant to $J$.

Quandle cocycle invariants form a powerful and well developed tool in knot theory. This paper treats their variations - namely, positive and twisted quandle cocycle invariants, and shadow invariants. We interpret the former as particular cases of the latter. As an application, several constructions from the shadow world are extended to the positive and twisted cases. Another application is a sharpening of twisted quandle cocycle invariants for multi-component links.
This paper concerns twisted signature invariants of knots and 3-manifolds. In the fibered case, we reduce the computation of these invariants to the study of the intersection form and monodromy on the twisted homology of the fiber surface. Along the way, we use rings of power series to obtain new interpretations of the twisted Milnor pairing introduced by Kirk and Livingston. This allows us to relate these pairings to twisted Blanchfield pairings. Finally, we study the resulting signature invariants, all of which are twisted generalisations of the Levine-Tristram signature.
