We uncover that the competition between electron-electron correlations and electron-phonon interactions gives rise to unexpectedly huge enhancement of the superconducting transition temperature, several hundreds percent larger ($\geq$ 200 K) than that of the case when only one of the two is taken into account ($\sim$ 30 K). Our renormalization group analysis claims that this mechanism for the enhancement of the critical temperature is not limited on superconductivity but applied to various Fermi surface instabilities, proposing an underlying universal structure, which turns out to be essentially identical to that of a recent study [Phys. Rev. Lett. {\bf 108}, 046601 (2012)] on the enhancement of the Kondo temperature in the presence of Rashba spin-orbit interactions. We also discuss the stability of superconductivity against nonmagnetic randomness.
BiOCuS is a band insulator that becomes metallic upon hole doping. Superconductivity was recently reported in doped BiOCu$_{1-x}$S and attributed to spin fluctuations as a pairing mechanism. Based on first principles calculations of the electron-phonon coupling, we argue that the latter is very strong in this material, and probably drives superconductivity, which is however strongly depressed by the proximity to magnetism. We find however that BiOCu$_{1-x}$S is a quite unique compound where both a conventional phonon-driven and an unconventional triplet superconductivity are possible, and comp…
We propose a microscopic theory of interaction of long wave molecular phonons with electrons in fullerides in the presence of disorder. Phonon relaxation rate and frequency renormalization are discussed. Finite electronic bandwidth reduces phonon relaxation rate at $q=0$. Electron-phonon coupling constants with molecular modes in fullerides are estimated. The results are in good agreement with photoemission experiments.
We show an efficient way to compute the electron-phonon coupling constant, $λ$, and the superconducting transition temperature, Tc from first-principles calculations. This approach gives rapid convergence of Tc with respect to the size of the k-point mesh, and is seamlessly connected to the formulation used in large molecular systems such as alkali fullerides where momentum dependence can be neglected. Since the phonon and electron-phonon calculations are time consuming particularly in complicated systems, the present approach will strongly reduce the computational cost, which facilitates high…
Using a variational Monte Carlo method, we study competitions of strong electron-electron and electron-phonon interactions in the ground state of Holstein-Hubbard model on a square lattice. At half filling, an extended intermediate metallic or weakly superconducting (SC) phase emerges, sandwiched by antiferromagnetic and charge order (CO) insulating phases. By the carrier doping into the CO insulator, the SC order dramatically increases for strong electron-phonon couplings, but largely hampered by wide phase separation (PS) regions. Superconductivity is optimized at the border to the PS.
The effective attractive interaction between electrons, mediated by electron-phonon coupling, is a well-established mechanism of conventional superconductivity. In metals exhibiting a Fermi surface, the critical temperature of superconductivity is exponentially smaller than the characteristic phonon energy. Therefore such superconductors are found only at temperatures below a few Kelvin. Systems with flat energy bands have been suggested to cure the problem and provide a route to room-temperature superconductivity, but previous studies are limited to only BCS models with an effective attractiv…
Using the {\it ab initio} anisotropic Eliashberg theory including Coulomb interactions, we investigate the electron-phonon interaction and the pairing mechanism in the recently-reported superconducting Ca-intercalated bilayer graphene. We find that C$_6$CaC$_6$ can support phonon-mediated superconductivity with a critical temperature $T_{\rm c}=$6.8-8.1~K, in good agreement with experimental data. Our calculations indicate that the low-energy Ca$_{xy}$ vibrations are critical to the pairing, and that it should be possible to resolve two distinct superconducting gaps on the electron and hole Fe…
We report the first experimental observation of the quenching of the superconducting state in current-voltage characteristics of an iron-based superconductor, namely, in FeSeTe thin films. Based on available theoretical models, our analysis suggests the presence of an intrinsic flux-flow electronic instability along with non-negligible extrinsic thermal effects. The coexistence and competition of these two mechanisms classify the observed instability as halfway between those of low-temperature and of high-temperature superconductors, where thermal effects are respectively largely negligible or…
We study competitions between charge uniform and inhomogeneous states in two-dimensional Hubbard models by using a variational Monte Carlo method. At realistic parameters for cuprate superconductors, emergent effective attraction of carriers generated from repulsive Coulomb interaction leads to charge/spin stripe ground states, which severely compete with uniform superconducting excited states in the energy scale of 10 K for the cuprates. Stripe period increases with decreasing hole doping $δ$, which agrees with the experiments for La-based cuprates at $δ$ = 1/8. For lower $δ$, we find a phase…
Superconducting quantum point contacts are known to possess two subgap states per each propagating mode. In this note we compute the low-temperature relaxation rate of the upper subgap state into the lower one with the emission of an acoustic phonon. If the reflection in the contact is small, the relaxation time may become much longer than the characteristic lifetime of a bulk quasiparticle.
We observe strong softening of optical phonon modes in superconducting (Tc = 4.2 K) boron doped diamond near the Brillouin zone center using inelastic x-ray scattering from a CVD-grown highly oriented sample. The magnitude of the softening, and our observation that it becomes stronger approaching zone center, supports theoretical models suggesting a phonon-mediated pairing mechanism via coupling of optical phonon modes to Fermi surfaces around the zone center. The electron-phonon coupling parameter is determined as approximately lambda= 0.33.
We study the single particle density of states (DOS) across the superconducting transition (Tc = 31 K) in single-crystal Ba0.67K0.33BiO3 using ultrahigh resolution angle-integrated photoemission spectroscopy. The superconducting gap opens with a pile-up in the DOS, Delta(5.3 K) = 5.2 meV and 2Delta(0)/kBTc = 3.9. In addition, we observe a pseudogap below and above Tc, occurring as a suppression in intensity over an energy scale up to the breathing mode phonon(~ 70 meV). The results indicate electron-phonon coupling induces a pseudogap in Ba0.67K0.33BiO3.
Inelastic light scattering studies on single crystal of electron-doped Ca(Fe0.95Co0.05)2As2 superconductor, covering the tetragonal to orthorhombic structural transition as well as magnetic transition at TSM ~ 140 K and superconducting transition temperature Tc ~ 23 K, reveal evidence for superconductivity-induced phonon renormalization; in particular the phonon mode near 260 cm-1 shows hardening below Tc, signaling its coupling with the superconducting gap. All the three Raman active phonon modes show anomalous temperature dependence between room temperature and Tc i.e phonon frequency decrea…
We investigate the dispersion and temperature dependence of a number of phonons in the recently discovered superconductor CaC6 utilizing inelastic x-ray scattering. Four [00L] and two ab-plane phonon modes are observed, and measured at temperatures both above and below T_c. In general, our measurements of phonon dispersions are in good agreement with existing theoretical calculations of the phonon dispersion. This is significant in light of several discrepancies between experimental measurements of phonon-derived quantities and theoretical calculations. The present work suggests that the origi…
Thin film devices have the advantage of being extremely compact, operate in a continuous mode, dissipate little power, and can easily be integrated in cryogenic detectors. Motivated by such possibilities, we investigate the phonon deficit effect in thin film $SIS$ (superconductor--insulator--superconductor) and $SIN$ tunnel junctions. Under certain circumstances, the phonon absorption spectra of such tunnel junctions have spectral windows of phonon absorption/emission. We propose to use phonon filters to select the phonon absorbtion windows and thus to enhance the cooling effect. Membranes att…

We discuss very low temperature experiments on superconducting micro-coolers made of a double Normal metal - Insulator - Superconductor junction. We investigate with a high resolution the differential conductance of the micro-cooler as well as of additional probe junctions. There is an explicit crossover between the single quasi-particle current and the phase-coherent Andreev current. We establish a thermal model by considering the thermal contribution due to the Andreev current. The related increase of the electron temperature is discussed, including the influence of several parameters like t…
Raman studies on Ca4Al2O5.7Fe2As2 superconductor in the temperature range of 5 K to 300 K, covering the superconducting transition temperature Tc ~ 28.3 K, reveal that the Raman mode at ~ 230 cm-1 shows a sharp jump in frequency by ~ 2 % and linewidth increases by ~ 175 % at To ~ 60 K. Below To, anomalous softening of the mode frequency and a large decrease by ~ 10 cm-1 in the linewidth is observed. These precursor effects at T0 (~ 2Tc) are attributed to significant superconducting fluctuations, possibly enhanced due to reduced dimensionality arising from weaked coupling between the well separ…
We report tunneling measurements of the electron-phonon (e-ph) interaction in superconducting MgB$_2$ using the MgB$_2$-I-Nb junctions, where I stands for insulator. The phonon structure in tunneling density of states in MgB$_2$ clearly indicates strong e-ph coupling for the E$_{2g}$ in-plane boron phonons in a narrow range around 60 meV. The Eliashberg spectral function $α^2(ω)F(ω)$ reconstructed from the tunneling data, exhibits significant additional contribution into e-ph interaction from other vibrations such as acoustic ($\sim 38$ meV) and optical ($\sim 90$ meV) bands. Our results are i…
We have observed a softening of phonons and a structural phase transition in a superconducting Ba0.59K0.41BiO3 (Tc = 31 K) single crystal using elastic and inelastic neutron scattering measurements. The soft phonon occurs for the [111] transverse acoustic mode at the zone boundary. The phonon energies in this vicinity are found to continuously decrease with decreasing temperature from above room temperature to 200 K, where a structural phase transition from cubic to tetragonal symmetry occurs. The overall results are consistent with previous data that reported phonon softening and a (0.5, 0.5,…
Superconductivity occurs in electrochemically doped molybdenum dichalcogenides samples thicker than four layers. While the critical temperature (Tc) strongly depends on the field effect geometry (single or double gate) and on the sample (MoS2 or MoSe2), Tc always saturates at high doping. The pairing mechanism and the complicate dependence of Tc on doping, samples and field-effect geometry are currently not understood. Previous theoretical works assumed homogeneous doping of a single layer and attributed the Tc saturation to a charge density wave instability, however the calculated values of t…
When there is a deviation from the inequality $d\ll {{l}_{\varepsilon }}$ ($d$ is the contact diameter, and ${{l}_{\varepsilon }}$ is the energy relaxation length of the electrons), structural features are produced on the current-voltage characteristics of $S-c-N$ contacts at characteristic phonon energies because of the decrease in $Δ$ due to the accumulation of nonequilibrium phonons with low group velocities near the contact.
The optical properties of the superconducting single crystal Rb$_{0.8}$Fe$_{1.68}$Se$_2$ with $T_{c}$ $\simeq$ 31 K have been measured over a wide frequency range in the $ab$ plane. We found that the optical conductivity is dominated by a series of infrared-active phonon modes at low-frequency region as well as several other high-frequency bound excitations. The low-frequency optical conductivity has rather low value and shows quite small Drude-like response, indicating low carriers density in this material. Furthermore, the phonon modes increase continuously in frequency with decreasing tempe…
The experimentally observed nonlinearities of the current-voltage characteristics (CVCs) of tantalum-based point homo- and hetero- contacts in both normal and superconducting states related to electron-phonon interaction (EPI) were analyzed. It was taken into account that additional nonlinearity of CVCs arising upon contact transition to the superconducting state (superconducting spectral component) is formed not only near the constriction in the region roughly equal to the contact diameter (as is the case for the normal state, and as predicted theoretically for the superconducting state), but…
The out-of-plane intercalate phonons of superconducting YbC6 have been measured with inelastic x-ray scattering. Model fits to this data, and previously measured out-of-plane intercalate phonons in graphite intercalation compounds (GICs), reveal surprising trends with the superconducting transition temperature. These trends suggest that superconducting GICs should be viewed as electron-doped graphite.
We measure the anisotropic mid-infrared response of electrons and phonons in bulk YBa2Cu3O7 after femtosecond photoexcitation. A line shape analysis of specific lattice modes reveals their transient occupation and coupling to the superconducting condensate. The apex oxygen vibration is strongly excited within 150 fs demonstrating that the lattice absorbs a major portion of the pump energy before the quasiparticles are thermalized. Our results attest to substantial electron-phonon scattering and introduce a powerful concept probing electron-lattice interactions in a variety of complex materials…
Density functional theory (DFT) based ab-initio calculations of electronic, phononic, and superconducting properties of 1T MoS2 are reported. The phonon dispersions are computed within density-functional-perturbation-theory (DFPT). We have also computed Eliashberg function alpha2Fomega and electron-phonon coupling constant lambda from the same. The superconducting transition temperature (Tc) computed within the McMillan-Allen-Dynes formula is found in good agreement with the recent experimental report. We have also evaluated the effect of pressure on the superconducting behavior of this system…
Point contacts (PC) Andreev reflection dV/dI spectra for the antiferromagnetic (T_N =6K) superconductor (Tc=11K) ErNi2B2C have been measured for the two main crystallographic directions. Observed retention of the Andreev reflection minima in dV/dI up to Tc directly points to unusual superconducting order parameter (OP) vanishing at Tc. Temperature dependence of OP was obtained from dV/dI using recent theory of Andreev reflection including pair-breaking effect. For the first time existence of a two superconducting OPs in ErNi2B2C is shown. A distinct decrease of both OPs as temperature is lower…
We report the systematic investigation of the specific heat of the noncentrosymmetric supercon- ductor Li2(Pd1-xPtx)3B as a function of x. There is a large deviation of the phononic specific heat from the conventional Debye specific heat for Pt-rich samples. In contrast with the fully-gapped con- ventional behavior for small x, a power-law temperature dependence of the electronic specific heat is observed even at x = 0.5. This results manifest a strongly-anisotropic or nodal superconducting gap even at x = 0.5 and a nodal superconducting gap for x >~ 0.9.
The temperature and pressure dependence of the partial density of phonon states of iron atoms in superconducting Fe1.01Se was studied by 57Fe nuclear inelastic scattering (NIS). The high energy resolution allows for a detailed observation of spectral properties. A sharpening of the optical phonon modes and shift of all spectral features towards higher energies by ~4% with decreasing temperature from 296 K to 10 K was found. However, no detectable change at the tetragonal - orthorhombic phase transition around 100 K was observed. Application of a pressure of 6.7 GPa, connected with an increase …
We report a detailed study of specific heat, electrical resistivity and optical spectroscopy in the superconducting boride LuB12 (Tc = 0.4 K) and compare it to the higher Tc compound ZrB12 (Tc = 6 K). Both compounds have the same structure based on enclosed metallic Lu or Zr ions in oversized boron cages. The infrared reflectivity and ellipsometry in the visible range allow us to extract the optical conductivity from 6 meV to 4 eV in the normal state from 20 to 280 K. By extracting the superconducting properties, phonon density of states and electron-phonon coupling function from these measure…
Superconductivity and ferroelectricity are typically incompatible because the former needs free carriers, but the latter is usually suppressed by free carriers, unless their concentration is low. In the case of strontium titanate with low carrier concentration, unconventional superconductivity and ferroelectricity were shown to be correlated. Here, we report theoretically and experimentally evaluated Grüneisen parameters whose divergence under tensile stress indicates that the dominant phonon mode that enhances the superconducting order is the ferroelectric transverse soft-mode. This finding r…
We study the interplay of magnetic and superconducting order in single crystalline hole doped Ba1-xNaxFe2As2 using muon spin relaxation. We find microscopic coexistence of magnetic order and superconductivity. In a strongly underdoped specimen the two forms of order coexist without any measurable reduction of the ordered magnetic moment by superconductivity, while in a nearly optimally doped sample the ordered magnetic moment is strongly suppressed below the superconducting transition temperature. This coupling can be well described within the framework of an effective two-band model incorpora…
We investigate the electronic background as well as the O2-O3 mode at 330 cm^-1 of highly doped YbBa2Cu3O7-delta in B1g symmetry. Above the critical temperature Tc the spectra consist of an almost constant electronic background and superimposed phononic excitations. Below Tc the superconducting gap opens and the electronic background redistributes exhibiting a 2Delta peak at 320 cm^-1. We use a model that allows us to separate the background from the phonon. In this model the phonon intensity is assigned to the coupling of the phonon to inter- and intraband electronic excitations. For excitati…
Using the Eliashberg theory of superconductivity we have examined several properties of a model in which electrons are coupled only to rattling phonon modes represented by a sharp peak in the electron-phonon coupling function. Our choice of parameters was guided by experiments on $β$-pyrochlore oxide superconductor KOs$_{2}$Os$_{6}$. We have calculated the temperature dependence of the superconducting gap edge, the quasiparticle decay rate, the NMR relaxation rate assuming that the coupling between the nuclear spins and the conduction electrons is via a contact hyperfine interaction which woul…
Inelastic neutron scattering was used to study the Cu-O bond-stretching vibrations in optimally doped La1.85Sr0.15CuO4 (Tc = 35 K) and in two other cuprates showing static stripe order at low temperatures, i.e. La1.48Nd0.4Sr0.12CuO4 and La1.875Ba0.125CuO4. All three compounds exhibit a very similar phonon anomaly, which is not predicted by conventional band theory. It is argued that the phonon anomaly reflects a coupling to charge inhomogeneities in the form of stripes, which remain dynamic in superconducting La1.85Sr0.15CuO4 down to the lowest temperatures. These results show that the phonon …
The Holstein Model (HM) describes the interaction between fermions and a collection of local (dispersionless) phonon modes. In the dilute limit, the phonon degrees of freedom dress the fermions, giving rise to polaron and bipolaron formation. At higher densities, the phonons mediate collective superconducting (SC) and charge density wave (CDW) phases. Quantum Monte Carlo (QMC) simulations have considered both these limits, but have not yet focused on the physics of more general phonon spectra. Here we report QMC studies of the role of phonon dispersion on SC and CDW order in such models. We qu…
We study effects of nonmagnetic impurities on the competition between the superconducting and electron-hole pairing. We show that disorder can result in coexistence of these two types of ordering in a uniform state, even when in clean materials they are mutually exclusive.
We have identifies the otical phonon modes of the superconducting infinite-layer compounds Sr$_{0.9}Ln_{0.1}$CuO$_2$ ($Ln$ = La, Gd, Sm; $T_c$ = 43 K for all) from their infrared reflectivity spectra obtained with a Fourier-transform infrared spectrometer on high-quality high-purity samples synthesized under high pressure. The La- and the Gd-doped compounds exhibited only four (2$A_{\rm 2u}$+2$E_{\rm u}$) out of the five (2$A_{\rm 2u}$+3$E_{\rm u}$) infrared-active phonon modes predicted by a group theoretical analysis whereas the Sm-doped compound exhibited all five modes. We propose the atom…
We present the structural, electronic and superconducting properties of Li2B2 under pressure within the framework of the density functional theory. The structural parameters, electronic band structure, phonon frequency of the E2g phonon mode and superconducting critical temperature Tc were calculated for pressures up to 20 GPa. We predicted that the superconducting critical temperature of Li2B2 is about 11 K and this decreases as pressure increases. We found that even though the lattice dynamics of the E2g phonon mode is similar to MgB2, the reduction of the σ-band density of states at Fermi l…
We investigate the electron-phonon cooling power in disordered electronic systems with a special focus on mesoscopic superconducting proximity structures. Employing the quasiclassical Keldysh Green's function method, we obtain a general expression for the cooling power perturbative in the electron-phonon coupling, but valid for arbitrary electronic systems out of equilibrium. We apply our theory to several disordered electronic systems valid for an arbitrary relation between the thermal phonon wavelength and the electronic mean free path due to impurity scattering. Besides recovering the known…
The recovering procedure of the electron-phonon interaction (EPI) functions from the additional nonlinearities of the current-voltage curve ($I-V$ curve) of point contacts associated with an excess current is considered. The approach proposed takes into account both inelastic scattering, which causes suppression of the excess current in the reabsorption of nonequilibrium phonons by electrons undergoing Andreev reflection (Andreev electrons), and elastic processes associated with the electron-phonon renormalization of the energy spectrum in a superconductor. The results obtained are systematica…
We show that the phase information contained in coherent phonon oscillations generated by a laser pulse in a multi- orbital superconductor can be used as an experimental tool to probe super- conductivity and pairing symmetries. The phase difference between the normal and superconducting states is proportional to the superconducting order parameter just below the superconducting transition temperature, Tc. It also exhibits different behaviors for superconducting states with different pairing symmetries. In particular, if there is an orbital-dependent internal sign change state, the phase differ…
The influence of antiadiabatic phonons on the temperature of superconducting transition is considered within Eliashberg - McMillan approach in the model of discrete set of (optical) phonon frequencies. A general expression for superconducting transition temperature $T_c$ is proposed, which is valid in situation, when one (or several) of such phonons becomes antiadiabatic. We study the contribution of such phonons into the Coulomb pseudopotential $μ^{\star}$. It is shown, that antiadiabatic phonons do not contribute to Tolmachev's logarithm and its value is determined by partial contributions f…
We report first-principles calculations of the superconducting properties of $β$--Bi$_2$Pd within the fully anisotropic Migdal-Eliashberg formalism. We find a single anisotropic superconducting gap of $s$--wave symmetry which varies in magnitude on the different regions of the Fermi surface. The calculated superconducting energy gap on the Fermi surface, the superconducting transition temperature, the specific heat, and the quasi-particle density of states are in good agreement with the corresponding experimental results and support the view that $β$--Bi$_2$Pd is a phonon-mediated single aniso…
The difference in the density of states for up- and down-spin electrons in a ferromagnet (F) results in spin-dependent scattering of electrons at a ferromagnet / nonmagnetic (F/N) interface. In a F/N/F spin-valve, this causes a current-independent difference in resistance ($ΔR$) between antiparallel (AP) and parallel (P) magnetization states. Giant magnetoresistance (GMR), $ΔR = R(AP) - R(P)$, is positive due to increased scattering of majority and minority spin-electrons in the AP-state. If N is substituted for a superconductor (S), there exists a competition between GMR and the superconducti…
The possibility of non-s-wave superconductivity induced by phonons is investigated using a simple model that is inspired by Sr$_2$RuO$_4$. The model assumes a two-dimensional electronic structure, a two-dimensional spin-fluctuation spectrum, and three-dimensional electron-phonon coupling. Taken separately, each interaction favors formation of spin-singlet pairs (of s symmetry for the phonon interaction and d$_{x^2-y^2}$ symmetry for the spin interaction), but in combination, a variety of more unusual singlet and triplet states are found, depending on the interaction parameters. This may have i…
We report high-resolution inelastic x-ray scattering measurements of the acoustic phonons in the single-layer cuprate $Bi_{2}Sr_{2-x)La_{x}CuO_{6+δ}$. These measurements reveal anomalous broadening of the longitudinal acoustic phonon near the (1/4,1/4,0) wavevector. The observed wavevector and its doping dependence indicate the coupling of the phonons to an underlying electronic density wave state. In addition, a comparison of the scattered intensities for x-ray energy-gain and x-ray energy-loss indicates that both time-reversal and inversion symmetries are broken in the material. Upon cooling…
The superconducting order parameter and electron-phonon interaction (EPI) in a MgB$_{2}$ c-axis oriented thin film are investigated by point contacts (PCs). Two superconducting gaps $Δ_{Small}\approx 2.6$ meV and $Δ_{Large}\approx 7.4$ meV have been established, which fairly well correspond to the theoretical gap ratio 1:3. The reconstructed PC EPI function along c-axis has above 30 meV similarities with the phonon DOS, while a pronounced maximum around 20 meV is resolved pointing out that the low frequency phonon mode can be of importance for pairing. We have estimated the Fermi velocity in M…
We address the effect of band filling on the effective electron mass $m^*$ and the superconducting critical temperature $T_c$ in a electron-phonon system. We compare the vertex corrected theory with the non-crossing approximation of the Holstein model within a local approximation. We identify two regions of the electron density where $m^*$ and $T_c$ are enhanced or decreased by the inclusion of the vertex diagrams. We show that the crossover between the enhancement at low density and the decrease towards half filling is almost independent of the microscopic electron-phonon parameters. These di…
We report on measurements of the specific heat of the recently discovered superconductor MgB$_2$ in the temperature range between 3 and 220 K. Based on a modified Debye-Einstein model, we have achieved a rather accurate account of the lattice contribution to the specific heat, which allows us to separate the electronic contribution from the total measured specific heat. From our result for the electronic specific heat, we estimate the electron-phonon coupling constant $λ$ to be of the order of 2, significantly enhanced compared to common weak-coupling values $\leq 0.4$. Our data also indicate …
The sharp forward electron-phonon $(FEP)$ and impurity $(FIS)$ scattering change the normal and superconducting properties significantly. The pseudo-gap like features are present in the density of states for $ω<Ω$, where $Ω$ is the phonon frequency. The superconducting critical temperature $T_c$, due to the $FEP$ pairing, is linear with respect to the electron-phonon coupling constant. The $FIS$ impurities are pair weakening for $s-$ and $d-wave$ pairing.
The in-plane magnetic penetration depth λ_{ab} in optimally doped (BiPb)_2(SrLa)_2CuO_{6+δ} (OP Bi2201) was studied by means of muon-spin rotation. The measurements of λ_{ab}^{-2}(T) are inconsistent with a simple model of a d-wave order parameter and a uniform quasiparticle weight around the Fermi surface. The data are well described assuming the angular gap symmetry obtained in ARPES experiments [Phys. Rev. Lett {\bf 98}, 267004 (2007)], where it was shown that the superconducting gap in OP Bi2201 exists only in segments of the Fermi surface near the nodes. We find that the remaining parts o…
The discovery of superconductivity at 203K in SH$_3$ is an important step toward higher values of $T_c$. Predictions based on state-of-the-art DFT for the electronic structure, including one preceding experimental confirmation, showed the mechanism to be the electron-phonon interaction. This was confirmed in optical spectroscopy measurements. For photon energies between $\sim 450$ and 600 meV in SH$_3$, the reflectance in the superconducting state is below that in its normal state. This difference decreases as $T$ approaches $T_c$. Decreasing absorption with increasing $T$ is opposite to what …
