In an earlier paper the author proved one divisibility of Perrin- Riou's Iwasawa main conjecture for Heegner points on elliptic curves. In the present paper, that result is generalized to abelian varieties of GL2-type (i.e. abelian varieties with real multiplication defined over totally real fields) under the hypothesis that the abelian variety is associated to a Hilbert modular form via a construction of Zhang.
In this paper we prove an anticyclotomic Iwasawa main conjecture proposed by Perrin-Riou for Heegner points when the global sign is -1, using a recent work of the author on one divisibility of Iwasawa-Greenberg main conjecture for Rankin-Selberg p-adic L-functions. As a byproduct we also prove the equality for the above mentioned main conjecture under some local conditions.
In this paper we propose and prove an anticyclotomic Iwasawa main conjecture for Heegner points on supersingular elliptic curves with $a_p=0$. The result has a "$\pm$" nature in the sense of Kobayashi. The proof uses a recent work of the second author on one divisibility in the Iwasawa--Greenberg main conjecture for Rankin-Selberg $p$-adic $L$-functions, together with an argument of Howard (adapted to our "$\pm$"-situation). As a byproduct, we also obtain an improvement of Skinner's result on a converse to the Gross--Zagier--Kolyvagin theorem.
Iwasawa theory of Heegner points on abelian varieties of GL_2 type has been studied by, among others, Mazur, Perrin-Riou, Bertolini and Howard. The purpose of this paper is to describe extensions of some of their results in which abelian varieties are replaced by the Galois cohomology of Deligne's p-adic representation attached to a modular form of even weight >2. In this setting, the role of Heegner points is played by higher-dimensional Heegner-type cycles that have been recently defined by Bertolini, Darmon and Prasanna. Our results should be compared with those obtained, via deformation-th…
Iwasawa theory of Heegner points on abelian varieties of GL_2 type has been studied by, among others, Mazur, Perrin-Riou, Bertolini and Howard. The purpose of this paper, the first in a series of two, is to describe extensions of some of their results in which abelian varieties are replaced by the Galois cohomology of Deligne's p-adic representation attached to a modular form f of even weight >2. In this more general setting, the role of Heegner points is played by higher-dimensional Heegner cycles in the sense of Nekovář. In particular, we prove that the Pontryagin dual of a certain Bloch-Kat…
For a positive proportion of primes $p$ and $q$, we prove that $\mathbb{Z}$ is Diophantine in the ring of integers of $\mathbb{Q}(\sqrt[3]{p},\sqrt{-q})$. This provides a new and explicit infinite family of number fields $K$ such that Hilbert's tenth problem for $O_K$ is unsolvable. Our methods use Iwasawa theory and congruences of Heegner points in order to obtain suitable rank stability properties for elliptic curves.
Let $E/\mathbf{Q}$ be an elliptic curve of conductor $N$, let $p>3$ be a prime where $E$ has good ordinary reduction, and let $K$ be an imaginary quadratic field satisfying the Heegner hypothesis. In 1987, Perrin-Riou formulated an Iwasawa main conjecture for the Tate-Shafarevich group of $E$ over the anticyclotomic $\mathbf{Z}_p$-extension of $K$ in terms of Heegner points. In this paper, we give a proof of Perrin-Riou's conjecture under mild hypotheses. Our proof builds on Howard's theory of bipartite Euler systems and Wei Zhang's work on Kolyvagin's conjecture. In the case when $p$ splits i…
We formulate an Iwasawa main conjecture for a higher rank Euler system for a general motive. We prove "one half" of the main conjecture under mild hypotheses. We also formulate a conjecture on "Darmon-type derivatives" of Euler systems and give an application to the Tamagawa number conjecture. Lastly, we specialize our general framework to the setting of Heegner points and give a natural interpretation of the Heegner point main conjecture in terms of rank two Euler systems.
Let $E$ be an elliptic curve over $\mathbb Q$ and let $p\geq5$ be a prime of good supersingular reduction for $E$. Let $K$ be an imaginary quadratic field satisfying a modified "Heegner hypothesis" in which $p$ splits, write $K_\infty$ for the anticyclotomic $\mathbb Z_p$-extension of $K$ and let $Λ$ denote the Iwasawa algebra of $K_\infty/K$. By extending to the supersingular case the $Λ$-adic Kolyvagin method originally developed by Bertolini in the ordinary setting, we prove that Kobayashi's plus/minus $p$-primary Selmer groups of $E$ over $K_\infty$ have corank $1$ over $Λ$. As an applicat…
Perrin-Riou has formulated a form of the Iwasawa main conjecture, which relates Heegner points to the Selmer group of an elliptic curve as one goes up the anticyclotomic Z_p extension of a quadratic imaginary field K. Building on the earlier work of Bertolini on this conjecture, and making use of the recent work of Mazur and Rubin on Kolyvagin's theory of Euler systems, we prove one divisibility of Perrin-Riou's conjectured equality. As a consequence, one obtains an upper bound on the rank of the Mordell-Weil group E(K) in terms of Heegner points.

We give a new proof of Howard's $Λ$-adic Gross-Zagier formula, which we extend to the context of indefinite Shimura curves over $\mathbf{Q}$ attached to nonsplit quaternion algebras. This formula relates the cyclotomic derivative of a two-variable $p$-adic $L$-function restricted to the anticyclotomic line to the cyclotomic $p$-adic heights of Heegner points over the anticyclotomic tower, and our proof, rather than inspired by the original approaches of Gross-Zagier and Perrin-Riou, is via Iwasawa theory, based on the connection between Heegner points, Beilinson-Flach elements, and their expli…
Let $E/\mathbb{Q}$ be an elliptic curve and let $K$ be an imaginary quadratic field. Under a certain Heegner hypothesis, Kolyvagin constructed cohomology classes for $E$ using $K$-CM points and conjectured they did not all vanish. Conditional on this conjecture, he described the Selmer rank of $E$ using his system of classes. We extend work of Wei Zhang to prove new cases of Kolyvagin's conjecture by considering congruences of modular forms modulo large powers of $p $. Additionally, we prove an analogous result, and give a description of the Selmer rank, in a complementary "definite" case (usi…
Building on the construction of big Heegner points in the quaternionic setting, and their relation to special values of Rankin-Selberg $L$-functions, we obtain anticyclotomic analogues of the results of Emerton-Pollack-Weston on the variation of Iwasawa invariants in Hida families. In particular, combined with the known cases of the anticyclotomic Iwasawa main conjecture in weight $2$, our results yield a proof of the main conjecture for $p$-ordinary newforms of higher weights and trivial nebentypus.
Let $E$ be an elliptic curve defined over ${\bf Q}$ and $K$ an imaginary quadratic field satisfying the Heegner hypothesis. A classical result of Kolyvagin states that, under suitable assumptions, if the basic Heegner point $y_K \in E(K)$ is not divisible by an odd prime $p$, then the groups $E(K)/{\bf Z} y_K$ and $\sha(E/K)$ are finite and their orders are prime to $p$. In this article we develop the following themes: firstly, we discuss improvements of Kolyvagin's result, following Cha (2005) and Lawson and Wuthrich (2016). Secondly, we prove an abstract Iwasawa-theoretical result which allo…
We prove the Iwasawa main conjecture over the arithmetic $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension for semistable abelian varieties over function fields of characteristic $p>0$.
The principal goal of this paper is to develop Kolyvagin's descent to apply with the big Heegner point Euler system constructed by Howard for the big Galois representation $\mathbb{T}$ attached to a Hida family $\mathbb{F}$ of elliptic modular forms. In order to achieve this, we interpolate and control the Tamagawa factors attached to each member of the family $\mathbb{F}$ at bad primes, which should be of independent interest. Using this, we then work out the Kolyvagin descent on the big Heegner point Euler system so as to obtain a big Kolyvagin system that interpolates the collection of Koly…
We study a geometric analogue of the Iwasawa Main Conjecture for constant ordinary abelian varieties over $\ZZ_p^d$-extensions of function fields ramifying at a finite set of places.
In 2005 Coates, Fukaya, Kato, Sujatha, and Venjakob formulated a noncommutative Iwasawa main conjecture for l-adic Lie extensions of number fields. To provide evidence for this main conjecture we formulate and prove an analogous statement for l-adic Lie extensions of separated schemes of finite type over a finite field of characteristic prime to l.
Our first goal in this note is to explain that a weak form of Perrin-Riou's conjecture on the non-triviality of Beilinson-Kato classes follows as an easy consequence of the Iwasawa main conjectures, and deduce its refined versions in the supersingular case from this fact and a variety of Gross-Zagier formulae. Our second goal is to set up a conceptual framework in the context of $Λ$-adic Kolyvagin systems to treat analogues of Perrin-Riou's conjectures for higher motives of higher rank. We apply this general discussion in order to establish a link between Heegner points on a general class of C…
We establish the Iwasawa main conjecture for semi-stable abelian varieties over a function field of characteristic $p$ under certain restrictive assumptions. Namely we consider $p$-torsion free $p$-adic Lie extensions of the base field which contain the constant $\mathbb Z_p$-extension and are everywhere unramified. Under the classical $μ=0$ hypothesis we give a proof which mainly relies on the interpretation of the Selmer complex in terms of $p$-adic cohomology [TV] together with the trace formulas of [EL1].
For primes $q \equiv 7 \mod 16$, the present manuscript shows that elementary methods enable one to prove surprisingly strong results about the Iwasawa theory of the Gross family of elliptic curves with complex multiplication by the ring of integers of the field $K = \mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{-q})$, which are in perfect accord with the predictions of the conjecture of Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer. We also prove some interesting phenomena related to a classical conjecture of Greenberg, and give a new proof of an old theorem of Hasse.
We study a geometric analogue of the Iwasawa Main Conjecture for abelian varieties in the two following cases: constant ordinary abelian varieties over $Z_p^d$-extensions of function fields ($d\geq 1$) ramified at a finite set of places, and semistable abelian varieties over the arithmetic $Z_p$-extension of a function field. One of the tools we use in our proof is a pseudo-isomorphism relating the duals of the Selmer groups of $A$ and its dual abelian variety $A^t$. This holds as well over number fields and is a consequence of a quite general algebraic functional equation.
We study Heegner points on elliptic curves, or more generally modular abelian varieties, coming from uniformization by Shimura curves attached to a rather general type of quaternionic or- ders closely related to those introduced by Hijikata{Pizer{Shemanske in the 80's. We address several questions arising from the Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer (BSD) conjecture in this general context. In par- ticular, under mild technical conditions, we show the existence of non-torsion Heegner points on elliptic curves in all situations in which the BSD conjecture predicts their existence.
Norm-compatible families of cohomology classes for Shimura varieties, and other arithmetic symmetric spaces, play an important role in Iwasawa theory of automorphic forms. The aim of this note is to give a systematic approach to proving "vertical" norm-compatibility relations for such classes (where the level varies at a fixed prime p), treating the case of Betti and étale cohomology at once, and revealing an unexpected relation to the theory of spherical varieties. This machinery can be used to construct many new examples of norm-compatible families, potentially giving rise to new constructio…
We prove that Heegner cycles of codimension m+1 inside Kuga-Sato type varieties of dimension 2m+1 are coefficients of modular forms of weight 3/2+m in the appropriate quotient group. The main technical tool for generating the necessary relations is a Borcherds style theta lift with polynomials. We also show how this lift defines a new singular Shimura-type correspondence from weakly holomorphic modular forms of weight 1/2-m to meromorphic modular forms of weight 2m+2.
We prove a functional equation for two projective systems of finite abelian $p$-groups, $\{\fa_n\}$ and $\{\fb_n\}$, endowed with an action of $\ZZ_p^d$ such that $\fa_n$ can be identified with the Pontryagin dual of $\fb_n$ for all $n$. Let $K$ be a global field. Let $L$ be a $\ZZ_p^d$-extension of $K$ ($d\geq 1$), unramified outside a finite set of places. Let $A$ be an abelian variety over $K$. We prove an algebraic functional equation for the Pontryagin dual of the Selmer group of $A$.
Given a newform f, we extend Howard's results on the variation of Heegner points in the Hida family of f to a general quaternionic setting. More precisely, we build big Heegner points and big Heegner classes in terms of compatible families of Heegner points on towers of Shimura curves. The novelty of our approach, which systematically exploits the theory of optimal embeddings, consists in treating both the case of definite quaternion algebras and the case of indefinite quaternion algebras in a uniform way. We prove results on the size of Nekovář's extended Selmer groups attached to suitable bi…
We use an Euler system of Heegner cycles to bound the Selmer group associated to a modular form of higher even weight twisted by a ring class character. This is an extension of Nekovar's result that uses Bertolini and Darmon's refinement of Kolyvagin's ideas.
This note shows how to use the framework of Euler characteristic formulae to study Selmer groups of abelian varieties in certain dihedral or anticyclotomic extensions of CM fields via Iwasawa main conjectures, and in particular how to verify the p-part of the refined Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer conjecture in this setting. When the Selmer group is cotorsion with respect to the associated Iwasawa algebra, we obtain the p-part of formula predicted by the refined Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer conjecture. When the Selmer group is not cotorsion with respect to the associated Iwasawa algebra, we give a con…
In this paper the new techniques and results concerning the structure theory of modules over non-commutative Iwasawa algebras are applied to arithmetic: we study Iwasawa modules over p-adic Lie extensions K of number fields k "up to pseudo-isomorphism". In particular, a close relationship is revealed between the Selmer group of abelian varieties, the Galois group of the maximal abelian unramified p-extension of K as well as the Galois group of the maximal abelian outside S unramified p-extension where S is a finite set of certain places of k. Moreover, we determine the Galois module structure …
We prove formulas for the p-adic logarithm of quaternionic Darmon points on p-adic tori and modular abelian varieties over Q having purely multiplicative reduction at p. These formulas are amenable to explicit computations and are the first to treat Stark-Heegner type points on higher-dimensional abelian varieties.
We develop Hida theory for Shimura varieties of type A without ordinary locus. In particular we show that the dimension of the space of ordinary forms is bounded independently of the weight and that there is a module of $Λ$-adic cuspidal ordinary forms which is of finite type over $Λ$, where $Λ$ is a twisted Iwasawa algebra.
Let $A$ be an abelian variety defined over a number field $F$. Suppose its dual abelian variety $A'$ has good non-ordinary reduction at the primes above $p$. Let $F_{\infty}/F$ be a $\mathbb Z_p$-extension, and for simplicity, assume that there is only one prime $\mathfrak p$ of $F_{\infty}$ above $p$, and $F_{\infty, \mathfrak p}/\mathbb Q_p$ is totally ramified and abelian. (For example, we can take $F=\mathbb Q(ζ_{p^N})$ for some $N$, and $F_{\infty}=\mathbb Q(ζ_{p^{\infty}})$.) As Perrin-Riou did, we use Fontaine's theory of group schemes to construct series of points over each $F_{n, \mat…

Let $M$ be the Shimura variety associated to the group of spinor similitudes of a quadratic space over $\mathbb{Q}$ of signature $(n,2)$. We prove a conjecture of Bruinier and Yang, relating the arithmetic intersection multiplicities of special divisors and CM points on $M$ to the central derivatives of certain $L$-functions. Each such $L$-function is the Rankin-Selberg convolution associated with a cusp form of half-integral weight $n/2 +1 $, and the weight $n/2$ theta series of a positive definite quadratic space of rank $n$. When $n=1$ the Shimura variety $M$ is a classical quaternionic Shi…
Let $K$ be an imaginary quadratic field, $N$ be a positive integer, $f(z)$ be a newform of level $Γ_1(N)$, and $A_f$ be the abelian variety associated to $f$. For each $τ\in K$ ($\operatorname{Im} τ>0$), we construct a certain point $P_τ$ on $A_f$ defined over an extended ring class field of $K$ of level $N$. Our construction generalizes Birch's construction of the Heegner points to the abelian varieties associated to modular forms of level $Γ_1(N)$ and nontrivial character. Then, we show that $P_τ$'s satisfy the distribution and congruence relations of an Euler system, which implies that it s…
In this paper, we study a (p-adic) geometric analogue for abelian varieties over a function field of characteristic p of the cyclotomic Iwasawa theory and the non-commutative Iwasawa theory for abelian varieties over a number field initiated by Mazur and Coates respectively. We will prove some analogue of the principal results obtained in the case over a number field and we study new phenomena which did not happen in the case of number field case. We propose also a conjecture which might be considered as a counterpart of the principal conjecture in the case over a number field. \par This is a …
Looking for a geometric framework to study plectic Heegner points, we define a collection of abelian varieties - called plectic Jacobians - using the middle degree cohomology of quaternionic Shimura varieties (QSVs). The construction is inspired by the definition of Griffiths' intermediate Jacobians and rests on Nekovar-Scholl's notion of plectic Hodge structures. Moreover, we construct exotic Abel-Jacobi maps sending certain zero-cycles on QSVs to plectic Jacobians.
In this paper, we obtain bounds for the Mordell-Weil ranks over cyclotomic extensions of a wide range of abelian varieties defined over a number field $F$ whose primes above $p$ are totally ramified over $F/\mathbb{Q}$. We assume that the abelian varieties may have good non-ordinary reduction at those primes. Our work is a generalization of \cite{Kim}, in which the second author generalized Perrin-Riou's Iwasawa theory for elliptic curves over $\mathbb{Q}$ with supersingular reduction (\cite{Perrin-Riou}) to elliptic curves defined over the above-mentioned number field $F$. On top of non-ordin…
We prove a general formula for the $p$-adic heights of Heegner points on modular abelian varieties with potentially ordinary (good or semistable) reduction at the primes above $p$. The formula is in terms of the cyclotomic derivative of a Rankin-Selberg $p$-adic $L$-function, which we construct. It generalises previous work of Perrin-Riou, Howard, and the author, to the context of the work of Yuan-Zhang-Zhang on the archimedean Gross-Zagier formula and of Waldspurger on toric periods. We further construct analytic functions interpolating Heegner points in the anticyclotomic variables, and obta…
