Let $\Lb$ be a lattice in an $n$-dimensional Euclidean space $E$ and let $\Lb'$ be a Minkowskian sublattice of $\Lb$, that is, a sublattice having a basis made of representatives for the Minkowski successive minima of $\Lb$. We consider the set of possible quotients $\Lb/\Lb'$ which may exists in a given dimension or among not too large values of the index $[\Lb:\Lb']$, indeed $[\Lb:\Lb']\le 4$, or dimension $n\le 8$.
In this paper, we investigate the properties of well-rounded twists of a given ideal lattice of an imaginary quadratic field $K$. We show that every ideal lattice $I$ of $K$ has at least one well-rounded twist lattice. Moreover, we provide an explicit algorithm to compute all well-rounded twists of $I$.
We provide a complete classification of well-rounded ideal lattices arising from real quadratic fields. We show that the ideals that give rise to such lattices are precisely the ones that correspond to divisors $a$ of the discriminant $d$ that satisfy $\sqrt{\frac{d}{3}}<a<\sqrt{3d}.$
We focus on two important classes of lattices, the well-rounded and the cyclic. We show that every well-rounded lattice in the plane is similar to a cyclic lattice, and use this cyclic parameterization to count planar well-rounded similarity classes defined over a fixed number field with respect to height. We then investigate cyclic properties of the irreducible root lattices in arbitrary dimensions, in particular classifying those that are simple cyclic, i.e. generated by rotation shifts of a single vector. Finally, we classify cyclic, simple cyclic and well-rounded cyclic lattices coming fro…
For any positive integer $n$ along with parameters $α$ and $ν$, we define and investigate $α$-shifted, $ν$-offset, floor sequences of length $n$. We find exact and asymptotic formulas for the number of integers in such a sequence that are in a particular congruence class. As we will see, these quantities are related to certain problems of counting lattice points contained in regions of the plane bounded by conic sections. We give specific examples for the number of lattice points contained in elliptical regions and make connections to a few well-known rings of integers, including the Gaussian …
Ideal lattices in the plane coming from real quadratic number fields have been investigated by several authors in the recent years. In particular, it has been proved that every such ideal has a basis that can be twisted by the action of the diagonal group into a Minkowski reduced basis for a well-rounded lattice. We explicitly study such twists on the canonical bases of ideals, which are especially important in arithmetic theory of quadratic number fields and binary quadratic forms. Specifically, we prove that every fixed real quadratic field has only finitely many ideals whose canonical basis…
Let $G$ be a semisimple algebraic group. We develop a machinery for manipulation and manufacture of well-rounded families $\left\{ \mathcal{B}_{T}\right\} _{T>0}\subset G$ as they were defined in a work by A. Gorodnik and A. Nevo. The importance of these types of families is that one can asymptotically count lattice points in them and even obtain an error term. Lattice counting is highly effective for solving asymptotic problems from number theory and the geometry of numbers. The tools we develop are handy especially when the family is given w.r.t. some decomposition of $G$ (e.g. Iwasawa or Ca…
Nearly orthogonal lattices were formally defined in [4], where their applications to image compression were also discussed. The idea of ``near orthogonality" in $2$-dimensions goes back to the work of Gauss. In this paper, we focus on well-rounded nearly orthogonal lattices in~$\mathbb R^n$ and investigate their geometric and optimization properties. Specifically, we prove that the sphere packing density function on the space of well-rounded lattices in dimension $n\geq 3$ does not have any local maxima on the nearly orthogonal set and has only one local minimum there: at the integer lattice~$…
We define Jacobi forms of indefinite lattice index, and show that they are isomorphic to vector-valued modular forms also in this setting. We also consider several operations of the two types of objects, and obtain an interesting bilinear map between vector-valued modular forms arising from the product operation.
We study Taylor expansions of Jacobi forms of lattice index. As the main result, we give an embedding from certain space of such forms, whether scalar-valued or vector-valued, integral-weight or half-integral-weight, of any level, with any character, into a product of finitely many spaces of modular forms. As an application, we investigate linear relations among Jacobi theta series of lattice index. Many linear relations among the second powers of such theta series associated with the $D_4$ lattice and $A_3$ lattice are obtained, along with relations among the third powers of series associated…
