For the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process, the asymptotic behavior of the maximum likelihood estimator of the drift parameter is totally different in the stable, unstable, and explosive cases. Notwithstanding of this trichotomy, we investigate sharp large deviation principles for this estimator in the three situations. In the explosive case, we exhibit a very unusual rate function with a shaped flat valley and an abrupt discontinuity point at its minimum.
We investigate the asymptotic behavior of the maximum likelihood estimators of the unknown parameters of positive recurrent Ornstein-Uhlenbeck processes driven by Ornstein-Uhlenbeck processes.
This paper is devoted to parameter estimation of the mixed fractional Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process with a drift. Large sample asymptotical properties of the Maximum Likelihood Estimator is deduced using the Laplace transform computations or the Cameron-Martin formula with extra part from \cite{CK19}
We discuss estimation problems where a polynomial is observed under Ornstein Uhlenbeck noise over a long time interval. We prove local asymptotic normality (LAN) and specify asymptotically efficient estimators. We apply this to the following problem: feeding noise into the classical (deterministic) Hodgkin Huxley model of neuroscience, we are interested in asymptotically efficient estimation of the parameters of the noise process.
We consider the problem of estimation of the drift parameter of an ergodic Ornstein--Uhlenbeck type process driven by a Lévy process with heavy tails. The process is observed continuously on a long time interval $[0,T]$, $T\to\infty$. We prove that the statistical model is locally asymptotic mixed normal and the maximum likelihood estimator is asymptotically efficient.
We investigate the large deviation properties of the maximum likelihood estimators for the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process with shift. We estimate simultaneously the drift and shift parameters. On the one hand, we establish a large deviation principle for the maximum likelihood estimates of the drift and shift parameters. Surprisingly, we find that the drift estimator shares the same large deviation principle as the one previously established for the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process without shift. Sharp large deviation principles are also provided. On the other hand, we show that the maximum likelihood e…
We refer by threshold Ornstein-Uhlenbeck to a continuous-time threshold autoregressive process. It follows the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck dynamics when above or below a fixed level, yet at this level (threshold) its coefficients can be discontinuous. We discuss (quasi)-maximum likelihood estimation of the drift parameters, both assuming continuous and discrete time observations. In the ergodic case, we derive consistency and speed of convergence of these estimators in long time and high frequency. Based on these results, we develop a test for the presence of a threshold in the dynamics. Finally, we ap…
We establish large deviation principles for the couple of the maximum likelihood estimators of dimensional and drift coefficients in the generalised squared radial Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process. We focus our attention to the most tractable situation where the dimensional parameter $a>2$ and the drift parameter $b<0$. In contrast to the previous literature, we state large deviation principles when both dimensional and drift coefficient are estimated simultaneously.
We construct a least squares estimator for the drift parameters of a fractional Ornstein Uhlenbeck process with periodic mean function and long range dependence. For this estimator we prove consistency and asymptotic normality. In contrast to the classical fractional Ornstein Uhlenbeck process without periodic mean function the rate of convergence is slower depending on the Hurst parameter $H$, namely $n^{1-H}$.
In this article, we study the problem of parameter estimation for a discrete Ornstein - Uhlenbeck model driven by Poisson fractional noise. Based on random walk approximation for the noise, we study least squares and maximum likelihood estimators. Thus, asymptotic behaviours of the estimator is carried out, and a simulation study is shown to illustrate our results.
Assuming that a threshold Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process is observed at discrete time instants, we propose generalized moment estimators to estimate the parameters. Our theoretical basis is the celebrated ergodic theorem. To use this theorem we need to find the explicit form of the invariant measure. With the sampling time step arbitrarily fixed, we prove the strong consistency and asymptotic normality of our estimators as the sample size tends to infinity.
We consider the problem of asymptotically efficient estimation of drift parameters of the ergodic fractional Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process under continuous observations when the Hurst parameter $H<1/2$ and the mean of its stationary distribution is not equal to zero. In this paper, we derive asymptotically efficient rates and variances of estimators of drift parameters and prove an asymptotic efficiency of a maximum likelihood estimator of drift parameters.
We consider the problem of parameter estimation for the partially observed linear stochastic differential equation. We assume that the unobserved Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process depends on some unknown parameter and estimate the unobserved process and the unknown parameter simultaneously. We construct the two-step MLE-process for the estimator of the parameter and describe its large sample asymptotic properties, including consistency and asymptotic normality. Using the Kalman-Bucy filtering equations we construct recurrent estimators of the state and the parameter.
We consider the goodness of fit testing problem for linear stochastic differential equation (Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process). The basic hypothesis is supposed to be composite with two-dimensional unknown parameter. We study two goodness of fit tests of Cramer-von Mises type based on empirical distribution function and on local time estimator of the invariant density. It is shown that the limit distributions of the underlying statistics under hypothesis do not depend on the unknown parameter.
New results on functional prediction of the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process in an autoregressive Hilbert-valued and Banach-valued frameworks are derived. Specifically, consistency of the maximum likelihood estimator of the autocorrelation operator, and of the associated plug-in predictor is obtained in both frameworks.
We compare two ways of constructing confidence intervals for the moments-matching parameter estimates of a Gaussian spatio-temporal Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process. It was found that those obtained via pairwise likelihood approximations had lower coverages and were more prone to the curse of dimensionality as opposed to those from a parametric bootstrap procedure.
Spatio-temporal modelling is an increasingly popular topic in Statistics. Our paper contributes to this line of research by developing the theory, simulation and inference for a spatio-temporal Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process. We conduct detailed simulation studies and demonstrate the practical relevance of these processes in an empirical study of radiation anomaly data. Finally, we describe how predictions can be carried out in the Gaussian setting.
Statistical testing is classically used as an exploratory tool to search for association between a phenotype and many possible explanatory variables. This approach often leads to multiple testing under dependence. We assume a hierarchical structure between tests via an Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process on a tree. The process correlation structure is used for smoothing the p-values. We design a penalized estimation of the mean of the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process for p-value computation. The performances of the algorithm are assessed via simulations. Its ability to discover new associations is demonstrat…
In the present paper we study the asymptotic behavior of the auto-covariance function for Ornstein-Uhlenbeck (OU) processes driven by Gaussian noises with stationary and non-stationary increments and for Hermite OU processes. Our results are generalizations of the corresponding results of Cheridito et al. \cite{CKM} and Kaarakka and Salminen \cite{KS}.
We verify the Edgeworth expansion of any order for the integrated ergodic Levy driven Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process, applying a Malliavin calculus with truncation over the Wiener-Poisson space. Due to the special structure of the model, the coefficients of the expansion can be given in a closed form.
We consider a transformed Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process model that can be a good candidate for modelling real-life processes characterized by a combination of time-reverting behaviour with heavy distribution tails. We begin with presenting the results of an exploratory statistical analysis of the log prices of a major Australian public company, demonstrating several key features typical of such time series. Motivated by these findings, we suggest a simple transformed Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process model and analyze its properties showing that the model is capable of replicating our empirical findings…
We introduce an extended version of the fractional Ornstein-Uhlenbeck (FOU) process where the integrand is replaced by the exponential of an independent Lévy process. We call the process the generalized fractional Ornstein-Uhlenbeck (GFOU) process. Alternatively, the process can be constructed from a generalized Ornstein-Uhlenbeck (GOU) process using an independent fractional Brownian motion (FBM) as integrator. We show that the GFOU process is well-defined by checking the existence of the integral included in the process, and investigate its properties. It is proved that the process has a sta…
Ornstein-Uhlenbeck processes driven by general Lévy process are considered in this paper. We derive strongly consistent estimators for the moments of the underlying Lévy process and for the mean reverting parameter of the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process. Moreover, we prove that the estimators are asymptotically normal. Finally, we test the empirical performance of our estimators in a simulation study and we fit the model to real data.
If we add a simple rotation term to both the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck semigroup and the definition of the H-derivative, then analogue to the classical Malliavin calculus on the real Wiener space [I. Shigekawa, Stochastic analysis, 2004], we get a normal but nonsymmetric Ornstein-Uhlenbeck operator $L$ on the complex Wiener space. The eigenfunctions of the operator $L$ are given. In addition, the hypercontractivity for the nonsymmetric Ornstein-Uhlenbeck semigroup is shown.
For an Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process driven by a double exponential jump diffusion process, we obtain formulas for the joint Laplace transform of it and its occupation times. The approach used is remarkable and can be extended to investigate the occupation times of an Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process driven by a more general Levy process.
In this short note, the identity in law, which was obtained by P. Salminen, between on one hand, the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process with parameter gamma, killed when it reaches 0, and on the other hand, the 3-dimensional radial Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process killed exponentially at rate gamma and conditioned to hit 0, is derived from a simple absolute continuity relationship.
We investigate the asymptotic properties of the minimum $L_1$-norm estimator of the drift parameter for fractional Ornstein-Uhlenbeck type process driven by a general Gaussian process.
We investigate the sharp large deviation properties of the energy and the maximum likelihood estimator for the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process driven by a fractional Brownian motion with Hurst index greater than one half.
We consider the generalized Ornstein- Uhlenbeck equation $\partial_t X=-m X_t+η$. In this paper We construct the Lévy noise $η$. The generalized Ornstein- Uhlenbeck process $X_t$ will be represented by a special types of graphs called rooted trees with two types of leaves.
We obtain a Berry-Esseen type bound for the distribution of the maximum likelihood estimator of the drift parameter for fractional Ornstein-uhlenbeck type process driven by sub-fractional Brownian motion.
We define a time-changed fractional Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process by composing a fractional Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process with the inverse of a subordinator. Properties of the moments of such process are investigated and the existence of the density is shown. We also provide a generalized Fokker-Planck equation for the density of the process.
This paper presents a study of the properties of the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck bridge, specifically, we derive its Karhunen-Loève expansion for any value of the initial variance and mean-reversion parameter (or mean-repulsion if negative). We also show that its canonical decomposition can be obtained using some techniques related to generalized bridges. Finally, we present an application to the optimal functional quantization of the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck bridge.
Using a coupling for the weighted sum of independent random variables and the explicit expression of the transition semigroup of Ornstein-Uhlenbeck processes driven by compound Poisson processes, we establish the existence of a successful coupling and the Liouville theorem for general Ornstein-Uhlenbeck processes. Then we present the explicit coupling property of Ornstein-Uhlenbeck processes directly from the behaviour of the corresponding symbol or characteristic exponent. This approach allows us to derive gradient estimates for Ornstein-Uhlenbeck processes via the symbol.
We prove two martingale identities which involve exit times of Levy-driven Ornstein--Uhlenbeck processes. Using these identities we find an explicit formula for the Laplace transform of the exit time under the assumption that positive jumps of the Levy process are exponentially distributed.
The main objective of this work is to study a natural class of catalytic Ornstein-Uhlenbeck (O-U) processes with a measure-valued random catalyst, for example, super-Brownian motion. We relate this to the class of affine processes that provides a unified setting in which to view Ornstein-Uhlenbeck processes, superprocesses, and Ornstein-Uhlenbeck processes with superprocess catalyst. We then review some basic properties of super-Brownian motion which we need and introduce the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process with catalyst given by a superprocess. The main results are the affine characterization of t…
In this article, we introduce a non Gaussian long memory process constructed by the aggregation of independent copies of a fractional Lévy Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process with random coefficients. Several properties and a limit theorem are studied for this new process. Finally, some simulations of the limit process are shown.
We examine the question of existence and uniqueness of evolution systems of measures for non-autonomous Ornstein-Uhlenbeck-type processes with jumps. In particular, we give examples where we explicitly compute the densities of such families of measures.
The paper studies a class of Ornstein-Uhlenbeck processes on the classical Wiener space. These processes are associated with a diffusion type Dirichlet form whose corresponding diffusion operator is unbounded in the Cameron-Martin space. It is shown that the distributions of certain finite dimensional Ornstein-Uhlenbeck processes converge weakly to the distribution of such an infinite dimensional Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process. For the infinite dimensional processes, the ordinary scalar quadratic variation is calculated. Moreover, relative to the stochastic calculus via regularization, the scalar …
First we give a construction of bridges derived from a general Markov process using only its transition densities. We give sufficient conditions for their existence and uniqueness (in law). Then we prove that the law of the radial part of the bridge with endpoints zero derived from a special multidimensional Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process equals the law of the bridge with endpoints zero derived from the radial part of the same Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process. We also construct bridges derived from general multidimensional Ornstein-Uhlenbeck processes.
Markovian intertwining relations between two Markov semigroups are related to the partial inclusion of the spectra of their generators, at least for finite ergodic processes. We check the limitations of this observation by investigating the Markov intertwining relations between the Ehrenfest, Yule and Ornstein-Uhlenbeck processes, whose spectra are all included into -$\mathbb{Z}_+$. As a by-product, we offer a clarification of an intertwining relation found in Biane [2] between the Yule and the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck processes.
For an Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process driven by fractional Brownian motion with Hurst index $H\in [\frac12,\frac34]$, we show the Berry-Esséen bound of the least squares estimator of the drift parameter. We use an approach based on Malliavin calculus given by Kim and Park \cite{kim 3}.
We review the probabilistic properties of Ornstein-Uhlenbeck processes in Hilbert spaces driven by Lévy processes. The emphasis is on the different contexts in which these processes arise, such as stochastic partial differential equations, continuous-state branching processes, generalised Mehler semigroups and operator self-decomposable distributions. We also examine generalisations to the case where the driving noise is cylindrical.
We investigate ergodic properties of generalized Ornstein--Uhlenbeck processes. In particular, we provide sufficient conditions for ergodicity, and for subexponential and exponential convergence to the invariant probability measure. We use the Foster--Lyapunov method. The drift conditions are obtained using the explicit form of the generator of the continuous process. In some special cases the optimality of our results can be shown.
In this paper we introduce the well-balanced Lévy driven Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process as a moving average process of the form $X_t=\int \exp(-λ|t-u|)dL_u$. In contrast to Lévy driven Ornstein-Uhlenbeck processes the well-balanced form possesses continuous sample paths and an autocorrelation function which is decreasing not purely exponential but of the order $λ|u|\exp(-λ|u|)$. Furthermore, depending on the size of $λ$ it allows both for positive and negative correlation of increments. We indicate how the well-balanced Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process might be used as mean or volatility process in stoc…
Starting from the 1-dimensional complex-valued Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process, we present two natural ways to imply the associated eigenfunctions of the 2-dimensional normal Ornstein-Uhlenbeck operators in the complex Hilbert space $L_{\Cnum}^2(μ)$. We call the eigenfunctions Hermite-Laguerre-Ito polynomials. In addition, the Mehler summation formula for the complex process are shown.
We continue the investigation of sample paths of $q$-Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process. We show that for all $q\in(-1,1)$, the process has big jumps crossing from near one end point of the domain to the other with positive probability. Moreover, the number of such jumps in an appropriately enlarged window converges weakly to a Poisson random variable.
In this article, existence of the $k$-th order derivatives of local time $ \widehatα^{(k)}(x,t)$ is considered for two d-dimensional fractional Ornstein-Uhlenbeck processes $X^{H_1}_t$ and $\widetilde{X}^{H_2}_s$ with Hurst parameters $H_1$ and $H_2$, respectively. Moreover, H$\hat{o}$lder regularity condition of fractional Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process $X^{H}_t$ of local time $\tildeα^{(k)}(x,t)$ is obtained by some techniques using in Guo et al. (2017) and in Lou et al. (2017).
We introduce a notion of intervention for stochastic differential equations and a corresponding causal interpretation. For the case of the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck SDE, we show that the SDE resulting from a simple type of intervention again is an Ornstein-Uhlenbeck SDE. We discuss criteria for the existence of a stationary distribution for the solution to the intervened SDE. We illustrate the effect of interventions by calculating the mean and variance in the stationary distribution of an intervened process in a particularly simple case.
We give some examples of random fields that can be represented as space-domain scaled stationary Ornstein-Uhlenbeck fields defined on the plane. Namely, we study a tied-down Wiener bridge, tied-down scaled Wiener bridges, a Kiefer process and so called (F,G)-Wiener bridges.
In this paper, we consider the measure determined by a fractional Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process. For such measure, we establish a martingale representation theorem and consequently obtain the Logarithmic-Sobolev inequality. To this end, we also present the integration by parts formula for such measure, which is obtained via its pull back formula and the Bismut method.
We show that for any fixed $θ\in(-\fracπ{2},\,0)\cup (0,\,\fracπ{2})$, the 1-dimensional complex Ornstein-Uhlenbeck operator \begin{equation*} \tilde{\mathcal{L}}_θ= 4\cosθ\frac{\partial^2}{\partial z\partial \bar{z}}-e^{\miθ} z \frac{\partial}{\partial z}-e^{-\miθ}\bar{z} \frac{\partial}{\partial \bar{z}}, \end{equation*} is a normal (but nonsymmetric) diffusion operator.
We study a generalized curvature dimension inequality which is suitable for subelliptic Ornstein-Uhlenbeck type operators and deduce convergence to equilibrium in the $L^2$ and entropic sense. The main difficulty is that the operators we consider may not be symmetric. Our results apply in particular to Ornstein-Uhlenbeck operators on two-step Carnot groups.
