We prove that the simple root functors E and F appearing in the categorification of irreducible highest weight modules of quantum groups via cyclotomic Khovanov-Lauda-Rouquier algebras is a biadjoint pair.
In this paper we prove that the cyclotomic Khovanov-Lauda-Rouquier algebras in type A, $\mathscr R_n^Λ$, are $\mathbb{Z}$-free. We then extend the graded cellular basis of $\mathscr R_n^Λ$ constructed by Hu and Mathas to $\mathscr R_n$ and use this basis to give a classification of all irreducible $\mathscr R_n$-modules.
We prove that the Khovanov-Lauda-Rouquier algebras $R_α$ of finite type are (graded) affine cellular in the sense of Koenig and Xi. In fact, we establish a stronger property, namely that the affine cell ideals in $R_α$ are generated by idempotents. This in particular implies the (known) result that the global dimension of $R_α$ is finite.
We construct irreducible representations of affine Khovanov-Lauda-Rouquier algebras of arbitrary finite type. The irreducible representations arise as simple heads of appropriate induced modules, and thus our construction is similar to that of Bernstein and Zelevinsky for affine Hecke algebras of type A. The highest weights of irreducible modules are given by the so-called good words, and the highest weights of the 'cuspidal modules' are given by the good Lyndon words. In a sense, this has been predicted by Leclerc.
This expository paper is based on the lectures given at the program `Modular Representation Theory of Finite and $p$-adic Groups' at the National University of Singapore. We are concerned with recent results on representation theory and cohomology of KLR algebras, with emphasis on standard module theory.
Using combinatorics of Young tableaux, we give an explicit construction of irreducible graded modules over Khovanov-Lauda-Rouquier algebras $R$ and their cyclotomic quotients $R^λ$ of type $A_{n}$. Our construction is compatible with crystal structure. Let ${\mathbf B}(\infty)$ and ${\mathbf B}(λ)$ be the $U_q(\slm_{n+1})$-crystal consisting of marginally large tableaux and semistandard tableaux of shape $λ$, respectively. On the other hand, let ${\mathfrak B}(\infty)$ and ${\mathfrak B}(λ)$ be the $U_q(\slm_{n+1})$-crystals consisting of isomorphism classes of irreducible graded $R$-modules a…
We classify simple representations of Khovanov-Lauda-Rouquier algebras in finite type. The classification is in terms of a standard family of representations that is shown to yield the dual PBW basis in the Grothendieck group. Finally, we prove a conjecture describing the global dimension of these algebras.
We develop the homological theory of KLR algebras of symmetric affine type. For each PBW basis, a family of standard modules is constructed which categorifies the PBW basis.
We give an explicit construction of irreducible modules over Khovanov-Lauda-Rouquier algebras $R$ and their cyclotomic quotients $R^λ$ for finite classical types using a crystal basis theoretic approach. More precisely, for each element $v$ of the crystal $B(\infty)$ (resp. $B(λ)$), we first construct certain modules $\nabla(\mathbf{a};k)$ labeled by the adapted string $\mathbf{a}$ of $v$. We then prove that the head of the induced module $\ind \big(\nabla(\mathbf{a};1) \boxtimes...\boxtimes \nabla(\mathbf{a};n)\big)$ is irreducible and that every irreducible $R$-module (resp. $R^λ$-module) ca…
In this paper, we prove Khovanov-Lauda's cyclotomic categorification conjecture for all symmetrizable Kac-Moody algebras. Let $U_q(g)$ be the quantum group associated with a symmetrizable Cartan datum and let $V(Λ)$ be the irreducible highest weight $U_q(g)$-module with a dominant integral highest weight $Λ$. We prove that the cyclotomic Khovanov-Lauda-Rouquier algebra $R^Λ$ gives a categorification of $V(Λ)$.
We prove that the Khovanov-Lauda-Rouquier algebras $R_\al$ of type $A_\infty$ are (graded) affine cellular in the sense of Koenig and Xi. In fact, we establish a stronger property, namely that the affine cell ideals in $R_\al$ are generated by idempotents. This in particular implies the (known) result that the global dimension of $R_\al$ is finite, and yields a theory of standard and reduced standard modules for $R_\al$.
A cuspidal system for an affine Khovanov-Lauda-Rouquier algerba $R_\al$ yields a theory of standard modules. This allows us to classify the irreducible modules over $R_\al$ up to the so-called imaginary modules. We make a conjecture on reductions modulo $p$ of irreducible $R_\al$-modules, which generalizes James Conjecture. We also describe minuscule imaginary modules, laying the groundwork for future study of imaginary Schur-Weyl duality. We introduce colored imaginary tensor spaces and reduce a classification of imaginary modules to one color. We study the characters of cuspidal modules. We …
Given a vector space with an action of a semi-simple Lie algebra, we can try to "categorify" this representation, which means finding a category where the generators of the Lie algebra act by functors. Such categorical representations arise naturally in geometric representation theory and in modular representation theory of symmetric groups. A framework for studying categorical representations was introduced by Rouquier and Khovanov-Lauda. Their definitions are algebraic/diagrammatic, but are connected to the topology of quiver varieties by the work of Rouquier and Varagnolo-Vasserot. In this …
Let us consider a finite set of pairs consisting of good $U'_q(g)$-modules and invertible elements. The distribution of poles of normalized R-matrices yields Khovanov-Lauda-Rouquier algebras We define a functor from the category of finite-dimensional modules over the KLR algebra to the category of finite-dimensional $U_q'(g)$-modules. We show that the functor sends convolution products to tensor products and is exact if the KLR albera is of type A, D, E.
We give an algebraic construction of standard modules (infinite dimensional modules categorifying the PBW basis of the underlying quantized enveloping algebra) for Khovanov-Lauda-Rouquier algebras in all finite types. This allows us to prove in an elementary way that these algebras satisfy the homological properties of an `affine quasi-hereditary algebra.' In simply-laced types these properties were established originally by Kato via a geometric approach. We also construct some Koszul-like projective resolutions of standard modules corresponding to multiplicity-free positive roots.
Kleshchev, Mathas and Ram (2012) gave a presentation for graded Specht modules over Khovanov-Lauda-Rouquier algebras of finite and affine type A. We show that this construction can be applied more generally to skew shapes to give a presentation of graded skew Specht modules, which arise as subquotients of restrictions of Specht modules. As an application, we show that cuspidal modules associated to a balanced convex preorder in affine type A are skew Specht modules for certain hook shapes.
We construct a geometric realization of the Khovanov-Lauda-Rouquier algebra $R$ associated with a symmetric Borcherds-Cartan matrix $A=(a_{ij})_{i,j\in I}$ via quiver varieties. As an application, if $a_{ii} \ne 0$ for any $i\in I$, we prove that there exists a 1-1 correspondence between Kashiwara's lower global basis (or Lusztig's canonical basis) of $U_\A^-(\g)$ (resp.\ $V_\A(λ)$) and the set of isomorphism classes of indecomposable projective graded modules over $R$ (resp.\ $R^λ$).
In this paper, we define a generalization of Khovanov-Lauda-Rouquier algebras which we call weighted Khovanov-Lauda-Rouquier algebras. We show that these algebras carry many of the same structures as the original Khovanov-Lauda-Rouquier algebras, including induction and restriction functors which induce a twisted biaglebra structure on their Grothendieck groups. We also define natural quotients of these algebras, which in an important special case carry a categorical action of an associated Lie algebra. Special cases of these include the algebras categorifying tensor products and Fock spaces d…
We study a presentation of Khovanov - Lauda - Rouquier's candidate $2$-categorification of a quantum group using algebraic rewriting methods. We use a computational approach based on rewriting modulo the isotopy axioms of its pivotal structure to compute a family of linear bases for all the vector spaces of $2$-cells in this $2$-category. We show that these bases correspond to Khovanov and Lauda's conjectured generating sets, proving the non-degeneracy of their diagrammatic calculus. This implies that this $2$-category is a categorification of Lusztig's idempotent and integral quantum group $\…
Khovanov-Lauda-Rouquier algebras of finite Lie type come with families of standard modules, which under the Khovanov-Lauda-Rouquier categorification correspond to PBW-bases of the positive part of the corresponding quantized enveloping algebra. We show that there are no non-zero homomorphisms between distinct standard modules and all non-zero endomorphisms of a standard module are injective. We obtain applications to extensions between standard modules and modular representation theory of KLR algebras.
We describe how Mirkovic-Vilonen polytopes arise naturally from the categorification of Lie algebras using Khovanov-Lauda-Rouquier algebras. This gives an explicit description of the unique crystal isomorphism between simple representations of the KLR algebra and MV polytopes. MV polytopes, as defined from the geometry of the affine Grassmannian, only make sense for finite dimensional semi-simple Lie algebras, but our construction actually gives a map from the infinity crystal to polytopes in all symmetrizable Kac-Moody algebras. However, to make the map injective and have well-defined crystal…
Brundan, Kleshchev and Wang equip the Specht modules $S_λ$ over the cyclotomic Khovanov--Lauda--Rouquier algebra $\mathscr{H}_n^Λ$ with a homogeneous $\mathbb{Z}$-graded basis. In this paper we begin the study of graded Specht modules labelled by hook bipartitions $((n-m),(1^m))$ in level $2$ of $\mathscr{H}_n^Λ$, which are precisely the Hecke algebras of type B, with quantum characteristic at least three. We give an explicit description of the action of the Khovanov--Lauda--Rouquier algebra generators $ψ_1,\dots,ψ_{n-1}$ on the basis elements of $S_{((n-m),(1^m))}$. Introducing certain Specht…
Given a strong 2-representation of a Kac-Moody Lie algebra (in the sense of Rouquier) we show how to extend it to a 2-representation of categorified quantum groups (in the sense of Khovanov-Lauda). This involves checking certain extra 2-relations which are explicit in the definition by Khovanov-Lauda and, as it turns out, implicit in Rouquier's definition. Some applications are also discussed.
We define a quotient of the category of finitely generated modules over the cyclotomic Khovanov-Lauda-Rouquier algebra for type An and show it has a module category structure over a direct sum of certain cyclotomic Khovanov-Lauda-Rouquier algebras of type An-1, this way categorifying the branching rules for the inclusion of sl(n) in sl(n+1). Using this we give a new, elementary proof of Khovanov-Lauda cyclotomic conjecture. We show that continuing recursively gives the Gelfand-Tsetlin basis for type An. As an application we prove a conjecture of Mackaay, Stosic and Vaz concerning categorical W…
Khovanov-Lauda-Rouquier algebras $R_θ$ of finite Lie type are affine quasihereditary with standard modules $Δ(π)$ labeled by Kostant partitions $π$ of $θ$. In type $A$, we construct explicit projective resolutions of standard modules $Δ(π)$.
Let $U_q(\g)$ be a quantum generalized Kac-Moody algebra and let $V(Λ)$ be the integrable highest weight $U_q(\g)$-module with highest weight $Λ$. We prove that the cyclotomic Khovanov-Lauda-Rouquier algebra $R^Λ$ provides a categorification of $V(Λ)$.
We introduce a new family of superalgebras which should be considered as a super version of the Khovanov-Lauda-Rouquier algebras. Let $I$ be the set of vertices of a Dynkin diagram with parity. To this data, we associate a family of graded superalgebras, the quiver Hecke superalgebras. When there are no odd vertices, these algebras are nothing but the usual Khovanov-Lauda-Rouquier algebras. We then define another family of graded superalgebras, the quiver Hecke-Clifford superalgebras, and show that they are weakly Morita superequivalent to the quiver Hecke superalgebras. Moreover, we prove tha…
A new class of algebras have been introduced by Khovanov and Lauda and independently by Rouquier. These algebras categorify one-half of the Quantum group associated to arbitrary Cartan data. In this paper, we use the combinatorics of Lyndon words to construct the irreducible representations of those algebras associated to Cartan data of finite type. This completes the classification of simple modules for the quiver Hecke algebra initiated by Kleshchev and Ram.
We prove that the quantum cluster algebra structure of a unipotent quantum coordinate ring $A_q(\mathfrak{n}(w))$, associated with a symmetric Kac-Moody algebra and its Weyl group element $w$, admits a monoidal categorification via the representations of symmetric Khovanov-Lauda- Rouquier algebras. In order to achieve this goal, we give a formulation of monoidal categorifications of quantum cluster algebras and provide a criterion for a monoidal category of finite-dimensional graded $R$-modules to become a monoidal categorification, where $R$ is a symmetric Khovanov-Lauda-Rouquier algebra. Rou…
We extend the definition of the Saito reflection functor of the Khovanov- Lauda-Rouquier algebras to symmetric Kac-Moody algebra case and prove that it defines a monoidal functor.
We consider RoCK (or Rouquier) blocks of symmetric groups and Hecke algebras at roots of unity. We prove a conjecture of Turner asserting that a certain idempotent truncation of a RoCK block of weight $d$ of a symmetric group $\mathfrak S_n$ defined over a field $F$ of characteristic $e$ is Morita equivalent to the principal block of the wreath product $\mathfrak S_e \wr \mathfrak S_d$. This generalises a theorem of Chuang and Kessar that applies to RoCK blocks with abelian defect groups. Our proof relies crucially on an isomorphism between $F\mathfrak S_n$ and a cyclotomic Khovanov-Lauda-Rouq…
This is a brief introduction to the quiver Hecke algebras of Khovanov, Lauda and Rouquier, emphasizing their application to the categorification of quantum groups. The text is based on lectures given by the author at the ICRA workshop in Bielefeld in August, 2012.
We give a definition of monoidal categorifications of quantum cluster algebras and provide a criterion for a monoidal category of finite-dimensional graded $R$-modules to become a monoidal categorification of a quantum cluster algebra, where $R$ is a symmetric Khovanov-Lauda-Rouquier algebra. Roughly speaking, this criterion asserts that a quantum monoidal seed can be mutated successively in all the directions once the first-step mutations are possible. In the course of the study, we also give a proof of a conjecture of Leclerc on the product of upper global basis elements.
We categorify a coideal subalgebra of the quantum group of $\mathfrak{sl}_{2r+1}$ by introducing a $2$-category à la Khovanov-Lauda-Rouquier, and show that self-dual indecomposable $1$-morphisms categorify the canonical basis of this algebra. This allows us to define a categorical action of this coideal algebra on the categories of modules over cohomology rings of partial flag varieties and on the BGG category $\mathcal{O}$ of type B/C.
We study imaginary representations of the Khovanov-Lauda-Rouquier algebras of affine Lie type. Irreducible modules for such algebras arise as simple heads of standard modules. In order to define standard modules one needs to have a cuspidal system for a fixed convex preorder. A cuspidal system consists of irreducible cuspidal modules---one for each real positive root for the corresponding affine root system ${\tt X}_l^{(1)}$, as well as irreducible imaginary modules---one for each $l$-multipartition. We study imaginary modules by means of `imaginary Schur-Weyl duality'. We introduce an imagina…
This paper is the first step in the project of categorifying the bialgebra structure on the half of quantum group $U_{q}(\mathfrak{g})$ by using geometry and Hall algebras. We equip the category of D-modules on the moduli stack of objects of the category $Rep_{\mathbb{C}}(Q)$ of representations of a quiver with the structure of an algebra object in the category of stable $\infty$-categories. The data for this construction is provided by an extension of the Waldhausen construction for the category $Rep_{\mathbb{C}}(Q)$. We discuss the connection to the Khovanov-Lauda-Rouquier categorification o…
In this paper, we study 2-representations of 2-quantum groups (in the sense of Rouquier and Khovanov-Lauda) categorifying tensor products of irreducible representations. Our aim is to construct knot homologies categorifying Reshetikhin-Turaev invariants of knots for arbitrary representations, which will be done in a follow-up paper. We consider an algebraic construction of these categories, via an explicit diagrammatic presentation, generalizing the cyclotomic quotient of the quiver Hecke algebra. One of our primary results is that these categories coincide when both are defined. We also inves…
We construct and investigate the structure of the Khovanov-Lauda-Rouquier algebras $R$ and their cyclotomic quotients $R^λ$ which give a categrification of quantum generalized Kac-Moody algebras. Let $U_\A(\g)$ be the integral form of the quantum generalized Kac-Moody algebra associated with a Borcherds-Cartan matrix $A=(a_{ij})_{i,j \in I}$ and let $K_0(R)$ be the Grothedieck group of finitely generated projective graded $R$-modules. We prove that there exists an injective algebra homomorphism $Φ: U_\A^-(\g) \to K_0(R)$ and that $Φ$ is an isomorphism if $a_{ii}\ne 0$ for all $i\in I$. Let $B(…
Let $J$ be a set of pairs consisting of good modules over an affine quantum algebra and invertible elements. The distribution of poles of the normalized R-matrices yields Khovanov-Lauda-Rouquier algebras $R^J$. We define a functor $F$ from the category $S_J$ of finite-dimensional graded $R^J$-modules to the category of finite-dimensional integrable $U_q(g)$-modules. The functor $F$ sends convolution products of $R^J$-modules to tensor products of $U_q(g)$-modules. It is exact if $R^J$ is of finite type A,D,E. When $J$ is the vector representation of $A^{(1)}_{n-1}$, we recover the affine Schur…
We construct knot invariants categorifying the quantum knot variants for all representations of quantum groups. We show that these invariants coincide with previous invariants defined by Khovanov for sl_2 and sl_3 and by Mazorchuk-Stroppel and Sussan for sl_n. Our technique is to study 2-representations of 2-quantum groups (in the sense of Rouquier and Khovanov-Lauda) categorifying tensor products of irreducible representations. These are the representation categories of certain finite dimensional algebras with an explicit diagrammatic presentation, generalizing the cyclotomic quotient of the …
