Deep--elastic scattering and its role in discrimination of the possible absorptive and reflective asymptotic scattering mechanisms are discussed with emphasis on the difference in the experimental signatures related to production processes.
The elastic scattering of gqq, gqqbar and gqbarqbar and the thermalization of quark-gluon matter are studied. According to Feynman diagrams at the tree level, squared amplitudes for the elastic gqq scattering and the elastic gqqbar scattering are derived in perturbative QCD. Transport equations including the squared amplitudes for the elastic gqq, gqqbar and gqbarqbar scattering are established. Corresponding to anisotropic gluon and quark distributions created in central Au-Au collisions at RHIC, solutions of the transport equations show that thermalization time of quark matter can be shorten…
In this work the process of elastic hadron scattering is discussed. In particular, scattering amplitudes for the various Pomeron models are compared. In addition, differential elastic cross section as a function of the scattered proton transverse momentum for unpolarised and polarised protons is presented. Finally, an implementation of the elastic scattering amplitudes into the GenEx Monte Carlo generator is discussed.
In this paper we applicate eikonalization procedure to the processes of elastic scattering at high energies. We have shown, that elastic data is consistent with relatively low values of eikonal parameter $c_p < 1$ only. It is in contrast with theoretical considerations.
A new method for the determination of the real part of the elastic scattering amplitude is examined for high energy proton-proton and proton-nuclei elastic scattering at small momentum transfer. This method allows to decrease the number of model assumptions, to obtain the real part in the narrow region of momentum transfer and to test different models for hadron-nuclei scattering.
We discuss how the reflective scattering would affect elastic scattering in the region of small and moderate values of $-t$, in particular, we demonstrate that diffractive pattern in the angular distribution will be kept in a modified form.
The theory of the perturbative pomeron, due to Lipatov and collaborators, is used to compute the probability of observing parton-parton elastic scattering and rapidity gaps between jets in hadron collisions at Tevatron energies.
A model for elastic scattering of nucleons (and anti-nucleons) based on the quark-diquark representation of the nucleon with springy Pomeron, providing increased real part of the scattering amplitude, is developed. The model predictions are compared with experimental data for the differential elastic cross-sections of nucleons in the energy range from few GeV up to 7 TeV using available databases.
The theory of the perturbative pomeron, due to Lipatov and collaborators, is used to compute the probability of observing parton-parton elastic scattering and rapidity gaps between jets in hadron collisions at SSC and LHC energies.
Summary of the XIth International Conference on Elastic and Diffractive Scattering in Chateau de Blois, France, May 15 - 20, 2005, summarizing both theoretical and experimental presentations and discussions.
We asses a role of the double helicity-flip amplitudes in small-angle elastic pp-scattering and obtain a new unitary bound for the double helicity-flip amplitude F_2 in elastic pp-scattering at small values of t on the basis of the U-matrix method of the s-channel unitarization.
The problems linked to the extraction of the basic parameters of the hadron elastic scattering amplitude at the LHC are explored. The impact of the Black Disk Limit (BDL)$-$ which constitutes a new regime of the scattering processes - on the determination of these values is examined.
Scenario for restoration of the real part of the elastic scattering amplitude has been proposed for the unitarity saturation case. Dependence of the real part of the elastic scattering amplitude on the transferred momentum $-t$ at the asymptotical energies has been restored from the corresponding imaginary part on the basis of derivative analyticity relations (analytization procedure).
Predictions of the elastic proton-proton cross sections at energies of LHC are calculate on the base of the high energy dynamical model. The growth of $ds/dt$ at fixed transfer momenta are shown. The form of eikonal of elastic hadron scattering at super high energies is discussed.
The theory of the perturbative pomeron, due to Lipatov and collaborators, is used to compute the probability of observing parton-parton elastic scattering and rapidity gaps between jets in hadron collisions at very high energies.
Using the available cross section and polarization data for elastic electron-proton scattering, we provide an extraction of the two-photon exchange amplitudes at a common value of four-momentum transfer, around Q^2 = 2.5 GeV^2. This analysis also predicts the e^+ p / e^- p elastic scattering cross section ratio, which will be measured by forthcoming experiments.
High energy $pp$ and $p\bar p$ elastic scattering is treated in the framework of Additive Quark Model. The reasonable agreement with experimental data is achieved with the natural parameters for the strong matter distribution inside proton.
I discuss recent progress in the theory of exclusive meson production and Compton scattering, focusing on hard-scattering factorization and on the dipole formalism.
A method of determination of the real part of the elastic scattering amplitude is examined for high energy proton-proton and proton-nuclei elastic scattering at small momentum transfer. The method allows to decrease the number of model assumptions, to obtain the real parts of the spin non-flip and spin-flip amplitudes in the narrow region of momentum transfer.
We calculate two-photon exchange amplitude for the elastic electron-pion scattering in the dispersion-relation inspired approach, including both elastic and inelastic contributions. The latter was modelled as a sum of ρand b_1(1235) meson contributions. We find that at Q^2 < 2 GeV^2 the elastic contribution is dominant, similarly to electron-proton scattering case. At higher Q^2 the inelastic contribution is not negligible, but still smaller than the elastic one. We also explain observed rapid amplitude growth at backward angles.
We have in earlier papers presented an extension of Mueller's dipole cascade model, which includes sub-leading effects from energy conservation and running coupling as well as colour suppressed saturation effects from pomeron loops via a ``dipole swing''. The model was applied to describe the total and diffractive cross sections in $pp$ and $γ^*p$ collisions, and also the elastic cross section in $pp$ scattering. In this paper we extend the model to describe the corresponding quasi-elastic cross sections in $γ^*p$, namely the exclusive production of vector mesons and deeply virtual compton sca…
We discuss the theoretical approach and practical algorithms for simulation of radiative events in elastic ep-scattering. A new Monte Carlo generator for real photon emission events in the process of elastic electron-proton scattering is presented. We perform a few consistency checks and present numerical results.
We discuss effects of reflective scattering for hadron and heavy nuclei collisions at the LHC and asymptotical energies. It is shown that the reflective scattering might lead to decreasing matter density with energy beyond the LHC energies. Limiting form of energy dependence of hadron density is obtained. Unitarity upper bound for the absolute value of the real part of elastic scattering amplitude and two-particle inelastic binary reactions amplitudes in impact parameter representation is two times less than the corresponding bound for the imaginary part of the elastic scattering amplitude. Th…
Neutrino proton elastic scattering and polarized deep inelastic spin sum rules provide complementary information about the spin structure of the proton. We outline the two approaches and what they may teach us about the transition from current to constituent quarks in QCD.
The different models of elastic nucleon scattering amplitude will be discussed. Especially, the preference of the more general approach based on eikonal model will be summarized in comparison with the West and Yennie amplitude that played an important role in analyzing corresponding experimental data in the past.
In this note we give arguments in favor of the statement that the contribution of the box diagram calculated for electron muon elastic scattering can be considered an upper limit to electron proton scattering. As an exact QED calculation can be performed, this statement is useful for constraining model calculations involving the proton structure.
Compact analytical formulae for QED radiative corrections in the processes of elastic $e-p$ scattering are obtained in the case when kinematic variables are reconstructed from the recoil proton momentum measured. Numerical analysis is presented under kinematic conditions of current experiments at JLab.
A behavior of imaginary and real parts of the high-energy elastic hadron scattering amplitude is examined in the diffraction region. It is shown that the interference between Coulomb and hadronic scattering at small momentum transfers and especially in the region of diffractive minimum can bring some information about the structure of the hadron spin-non-flip amplitude.
Independent multiple scattering (`Landshoff') contributions to proton-proton elastic scattering at wide angles are calculated in the quark-diquark model. Results confirm previous observations about the magnitude of these contributions. The use of the quark-diquark model extends the applicability of perturbative QCD calculations down to lower values of momentum transfer substantially.
The diffraction slope parameter is investigated for elastic proton-proton and proton-antiproton scattering based on the all available experimental data at low momentum transfer values. Energy dependence of the elastic diffraction slopes is approximated by various analytic functions. The expanded "standard" logarithmic approximations allow to describe experimental slopes in all available energy range reasonably. Various approximations differ from each other both in the low energy and very high energy domains. Predictions for diffraction slope parameter are obtained for elastic proton-proton sca…
The main contribution to hard elastic scattering comes from components of wave functions of colliding hadrons that contain minimum number of partons. We discuss this mechanism in regge and parton approaches and estimate the probabilities that colliding hadrons are in such bare states. The behavior of cross-sections in this regime at various energies can give nontrivial information on high energy dynamics.
The consequences of a flavor broken SU(3)_f dynamical parton model are studied in the context of the elastic scattering of supersymmetric dark matter off nucleons. It is shown that the predictions of this model differ considerably from those of the commonly applied `standard' parton model. Some notable properties of the dynamical parton model are finally presented and discussed.
In this paper we prove a new optimal bound on the logarithmic slope of the elastic slope when: elastic cross section and differential cross sections in forward and backward directions are known from experimental data. The results on the experimental tests of this new optimal bound are presented in Sect. 3 for the principal meson-nucleon elastic scatterings: pion-nucleon, kaon-nucleon at all available energies. Then we have shown that the saturation of this optimal bound is observed with high accuracy practically at all available energies in meson-nucleon scattering.
The C-odd amplitude for the elastic $pp$ and $p\bar{p}$ scattering due to the exchange of the QCD odderon proposed by J.Bartels, L.N.Lipatov and G.P. Vacca is calculated with the Fukugita-Kwiecinski proton impact factor. The found amplitude is very small and cannot be felt in the differential cross-sections at 2.76 and 1.96 Tev respectively.
The new parameterization of the Generalized Parton Distributions (GPDs) t-dependence is investigated. It is shown that the new form of the GPDS allows one to reproduce sufficiently well the electromagnetic form factors of the proton and neutron at small and large momentum transfer and obtain a good description of the elastic nucleon-nucleon scattering at high energies.
The problems linked with the extraction of the basic parameters of the hadron elastic scattering amplitude at the LHC are explored. It is shown that one should take into account the saturation regime which will lead to new effects at the LHC.
Different models for the odderon-proton coupling are considered and their effects on the differential cross section in the dip region in elastic p p and p pbar scattering are investigated. An allowed range for the size of a possible diquark cluster in the proton can be obtained from a geometrical model.
Several methods of extracting the magnitude of the real parts of the elastic hadron scattering amplitude - from the experimental data are presented. These methods allows us to obtain the real parts at one definite point of the transfer momentum and with a high accuracy without knowledge of the precise values of the normalization coefficient and with minimum theoretical assumptions.
The commonly used West and Yennie model approach to the description of the interference between Coulomb and hadronic scattering of nucleons is critically examined and its deficiencies are clarified. The preference of the more general eikonal model approach is summarized.
We discuss the two-photon exchange contribution to observables which involve lepton helicity flip in elastic lepton-nucleon scattering. This contribution is accessed through the spin asymmetry for a lepton beam polarized normal to the scattering plane. We estimate this beam normal spin asymmetry at large momentum transfer using a parton model and we express the corresponding amplitude in terms of generalized parton distributions.
A model of $pp$ and $\bar{p}p$ elastic scattering developed previously to analyze ISR and SPS Collider data is extended to predict $pp$ elastic differential cross section at LHC at c.m. energy of 14 TeV and momentum transfer range $|t|=0$ - 10 GeV$^2$. Role of the gauged linear $σ$-model as an underlying field theory model describing nucleon structure and elastic scattering is discussed. Possibility of finding evidence of a chiral phase transition at large $|t|$ in the proposed TOTEM project at LHC is pointed out.
The elastic scattering amplitude (ESA) is obtained in the one-loop approximation of the 2+1 dimensional quantum electrodynamics (QED$_{2+1}$) for planar charged fermions in an external constant magnetic field. We obtain the elastic scattering amplitude in the corresponding massive theory and then discuss and calculate the massless limit of ESA. The imaginary part of ESA are related to the total probability of photons emission by charged fermions in the considered magnetic field. Simple analytical formulas are obtained when planar charged fermions in initial states occupy high excited Landau le…
The Chou-Yang model based on multiple diffraction theory has already been used by us to predict the characteristics of antiproton-proton elastic scattering at very high energies. But the recent precise data on proton elastic form factor obtained at JLab essentially deviates from the dipole approximation. We have parametrized the data for the form factor. The computations have been made by using the new expression for the form factor. The implications of the new form factor on the characteristics of antiproton-proton elastic scattering at very high energy have been studied.
The rôle of inelastic diffraction in elastic scattering of nuclei is studied in the formalism of \emph{diffractive limit}. The results obtained for scattering of the $α$--particles on light nuclei show that the nucleonic diffraction is especially important at large momentum transfers where the Glauber model of geometric diffraction fails.
We studied the high energy quark anti-quark elastic scattering with an exchange of a mesonic state in the $t$ channel with $-t/Λ_{QCD}^{2} \gg 1$. Two methods are proposed to eliminate the strong background from bare pomeron, reggized gluon and odderon exchange. The feasibility of measuring mesonic reggeon exchange is discussed.
In the framework of the model, where the scattering amplitude is determined by the first and second moments of the GPDs, the qualitative description of all existing experimental data at $\sqrt{s} \geq 52.8 $ GeV, including the Coulomb range and large momentum transfers, is obtained with only 4 free parameters. The spin-flip amplitude of the nucleon-nucleon elastic scattering is determined taking into account the spin-dependence part of the second moment of the generalized parton distributions (GPDs) with a new set of $t $-dependence. The corresponding value of the % analyzing power $A_N$ for t…
We comment on phase selection of the scattering amplitude, emphasizing that the elastic overlap function should have a central impact parameter profile at high energies and highlighting the role of the reflective scattering mode at the LHC energies. Emerging problems with the use of peripheral impact parameter dependence of the elastic overlap function are explicitly indicated. Their solution is an elimination of the phases connected to peripheral form of the elastic overlap function. Contrary, we adhere to a relative peripheral form of the {\it inelastic} overlap function with an additional n…
The kinematical difference between the description of radiative effects for fixed $Q^2$ vs a fixed scattering angle in the elastic lepton-proton ($lp$)-scattering is discussed. The technique of calculation as well as explicit expressions for radiative corrections to the lepton current in unpolarized elastic $lp$-scattering for these two cases are presented without using an ultrarelativistic approximation. A comparative numerical analysis within kinematic conditions of Jefferson Lab measurements and MUSE experiment in PSI is performed.
The model-independent solution of the s-channel unitarity condition for the imaginary part of the hadronic elastic scattering amplitude outside the diffraction peak allows to make conclusions about its real part at nonzero transferred momenta. The asymptotical properties of the ratio of the real to imaginary part of the amplitude are discussed. In particular, it is explicitly shown that the ratio changes its sign at a defnite value of the transferred momentum. Some comments concerning the present day experimental results about the behavior of the differential cross-section of elastic scatterin…
Total and differential cross sections for high energy and small momentum transfer elastic hadron-hadron scattering are studied in QCD using a functional integral approach. The hadronic amplitudes are governed by vacuum expectation values of lightlike Wegner-Wilson loops, for which a matrix cumulant expansion is derived. The cumulants are evaluated within the framework of the Minkowskian version of the model of the stochastic vacuum. Using the second cumulant, we calculate elastic differential cross sections for hadron-hadron scattering. The agreement with experimental data is good.
The diffraction slope parameter is investigated for elastic proton-proton and proton-antiproton scattering based on the all available experimental data at low and intermediate momentum transfer values. Energy dependence of the elastic diffraction slopes is approximated by various analytic functions. The expanded "standard" logarithmic approximations with minimum number of free parameters allow to describe experimental slopes in all available energy range reasonably. The estimations of asymptotic shrinkage parameter $α'_{\cal{P}}$ were obtained for various $|t|$ domains based on the all availab…
The elastic and inelastic profiles have been derived from the measured elastic differential cross section data with the help of exact impact parameter representation of elastic scattering amplitude. The results obtained for $pp$ scattering at energy of 53 GeV and $\bar{p} p$ scattering at energy of 541 GeV have been presented. They indicate that nucleons can be regarded as objects characterized by a small core (diameter $\sim$ 0.4$÷$0.8 fm) and a half transparent outer shell (responsible mainly for elastic hadron scattering).
Using a unified analytic representation for the elastic scattering amplitudes of pp scattering valid for all energy region, the behavior of observables in the LHC collisions in the range $\sqrt{s}$= 2.76 - 14 TeV is discussed. Similarly to the case of 7 TeV data, the proposed amplitudes give excellent description of the preliminary 8 TeV data. We discuss the expected energy dependence of the observable quantities, and present predictions for the experiments at 2.76, 13 and 14 TeV.
The hard pomeron component needed to reproduce small-x data seems to be present in elastic scattering at moderate energy. If this is the case, it is likely that the total cross section at the LHC will be appreciably larger than previously expected.
