We have in earlier papers presented an extension of Mueller's dipole cascade model, which includes sub-leading effects from energy conservation and running coupling as well as colour suppressed saturation effects from pomeron loops via a ``dipole swing''. The model was applied to describe the total and diffractive cross sections in $pp$ and $γ^*p$ collisions, and also the elastic cross section in $pp$ scattering.
In this paper we extend the model to describe the corresponding quasi-elastic cross sections in $γ^*p$, namely the exclusive production of vector mesons and deeply virtual compton scattering. Also for these reactions we find a good agrement with measured cross sections. In addition we obtain a reasonable description of the $t$-dependence of the elastic $pp$ and quasi-elastic $γ^\star p$ cross sections.
The contribution to diffraction dissociation of virtual photons due to quasi-elastic scattering of the $q$-$\bar q$ component is calculated in the framework of the QCD dipole picture. Both longitudinal and transverse components of the cross-section are given. It is shown that, at fixed mass of the diffractively produced system, quantum mechanical interference plays an important r\^ ole. Phenomenological consequences are discussed.
A brief review on the Dipole Pomeron model is given. The model not only describes data on hadron-hadron interactions, but also allows to describe data on the proton structure function with a $Q^2$ independent intercept. Moreover the chosen Dipole Pomeron has an intercept equal to one and does not violate unitarity limit on the total elastic cross-section.
Using the Model of the Stochastic Vacuum many diffractive processes have been calculated by investigating the dipole-dipole scattering at a cm-energy of 20 GeV. In this work we extend the calculation to larger energies and small dipoles. We assume that there are two pomerons, the hard- and the soft-pomeron, which cause the different energy dependence for processes dominated by small or large dipoles. The physical processes are obtained by smearing the dipole-dipole amplitude with wavefunctions. For small dipoles the leading perturbative contribution is taken into account. By that way we can de…
We consider elastic neutrino - electron scattering of solar neutrinos with magnetic moments and electric dipole moments, where the solar neutrino state at the scattering site is determined by the evolution in matter and solar magnetic fields of the initial electron neutrino state. We present the general cross section for an arbitrary superposition of active and sterile neutrino types with positive and negative helicities, with particular emphasis on the effect of transverse polarization, which gives rise to an azimuthal asymmetry as a function of the recoil electron momentum. Within our physic…
We derive the analytic expression of the two one-loop dipole contributions to the elastic 4-gluon amplitude in QCD. The first one corresponds to the double QCD pomeron exchange, the other to an order alpha^2 correction to one-pomeron exchange. Both are expressed in terms of the square of the recently derived triple QCD pomeron vertex and involve a summation over all conformal Eigenvectors of the BFKL kernel.
In order to understand the initial partonic state in proton-nucleus and electron-nucleus collisions, we investigate the total, inelastic, and (quasi-)elastic cross sections in pA and gamma-A collisions, as these observables are insensitive to possible collective effects in the final state interactions. We used as a tool the DIPSY dipole model, which is based on BFKL dynamics including non-leading effects, saturation, and colour interference, which we have extended to describe collisions of protons and virtual photons with nuclei. We present results for collisions with O, Cu, and Pb nuclei, and…
We attempt to describe soft hadron interactions in the framework of saturation models, one based upon the Balitsky-Kovchegov non-linear equation and another one due to Golec-Biernat and Wüsthoff. For $pp$, $Kp$, and $πp$ scattering the relevant hadronic wave functions are formulated, and total, elastic cross-sections, and the forward elastic slope are calculated and compared to experimental data. The saturation mechanism leads to reasonable reproduction of the data for the quantities analyzed, except for the forward elastic slope, where the predicted increase with energy is too moderate.
Using the QCD dipole picture of BFKL dynamics, the quasi elastic component of the diffractive gamma*-dipole cross-section, dominating at small M^2/Q^2, is calculated.
We carry out a relativistic calculation of the cross sections of electron-16O and -12C quasi-elastic scattering and quasi-free Delta production and compare with the (e,e') data systematically in the wide energy range of 0.5 - 1.5 GeV. Using the same formalism, we examine the mu-neutrino quasi-elastic scattering from 16O. The model incorporating the nuclear correlation effects agrees better with the electron-nucleus scattering data than a uniform Fermi-Gas model. In the neutrino quasi-elastic scattering, the nuclear correlation has an appreciable effect on the cross section of high-energy scatt…
We consider elastic antineutrino-electron scattering taking into account possible effects of neutrino masses and mixing and of neutrino magnetic moments and electric dipole moments. Having in mind antineutrinos produced in a nuclear reactor we compute, in particular, the weak-electromagnetic interference terms which are linear in the magnetic (electric dipole) moments and also in the neutrino masses. We show that these terms are, however, suppressed compared to the pure weak and electromagnetic cross section. We also comment upon the possibility of using the electromagnetic cross section to in…
The QCD-based generalized vector dominance-color-dipole picture (GVD-CDP) provides a coherent picture of low-x DIS, deeply virtual Compton scattering and light as wel as heavy vector-meson production.
In this work we consider the QCD parton saturation models to describe soft interactions at the high energy limit. The total and elastic cross sections as well as the elastic slope parameter are obtained for proton-proton and pion-proton collisions and compared to recent experimental results. The analyses are done within the color dipole formalism taking into account saturation models which have been tested against DIS data. The main point is that the match between soft and hard interaction occurs in the saturation region which can be described by high density QCD approaches. Discussion is perf…
In the framework of the Model of the Stochastic Vacuum elastic hadron-hadron scattering, photo- and electroproduction of vectormesons and also F_2(Q^2) can be well described at center of mass energy approximately 20 GeV. The scattering amplitude is derived by smearing the color dipole-dipole scattering, which is calculated nonperturbatively in the Model of the Stochastic Vacuum, with appropriate wavefunctions. For the considered processes the dipoles have extensions in the range of hadron sizes. We now extend this idea to small dipoles and high energies. The energy dependence is modeled in a p…
I discuss recent progress in the theory of exclusive meson production and Compton scattering, focusing on hard-scattering factorization and on the dipole formalism.
The effects of nuclear re-interactions in quasi elastic and resonant neutrino interactions have been considered in the framework of the nuclear models of the DPMJET code. A preliminary investigation on the modifications induced on the final state has been performed. Some consequences affecting the experimental identification are discussed.
A series of previous papers develops a dipole model in initial state impact parameter space that includes subleading effects such as running alpha strong, unitarity, confinement and saturation. Here some recent work is presented, where the model is applied to a new set of data: vector meson production in photon-proton, DVCS and t-dependence in elastic proton-proton collisions. This allows us to tune a more realistic model of the proton wavefunction from the pp data, and confirm the predictive power of the model in high Q2 of DVCS and vector meson production. For low Q2 vector meson resonances …
Two boson exchange (TBE) correction to the cross section for the quasi-elastic charged current $νn$ and $\barν p$ scattering is evaluated. The TBE is given by $Wγ$ box diagrams. The calculations are performed for 1 GeV neutrinos. The averaged TBE correction is of the order of $2\div4 %$ (with respect to Born contribution) in the case of $ν_e$ and $\barν_e$ and $1\div2 %$ in the case of $ν_μ$ and $\barν_μ$. The impact of the TBE effect on the systematic discrepancy between the $ν_e$ and $ν_μ$ cross sections is discussed.
Phenomenological multigauge model of neutrino-nucleon interaction based on chiral symmetry of strong interactions and vector/pseudovector meson dominance model is suggested. It was shown that within the framework of the model the constant of neutron beta decay is formed by meson masses and parameters of the hadronization of fundamental vector bosons. Then, quasi elastic (anti)neutrino-nucleon scattering processes have been investigated and it was found that weak nucleon form factor $G_A(Q^2)$ considered as multipole expansion multiplied on pQCD asymptotes is in a good agreement with experiment…
Part of eikonal type contributions to $eμ$ large-angle high-energy scattering cross section is considered in a quasi-elastic experimental set-up. Apart from virtual corrections we examine inelastic processes with emission of one and two soft real photons as well as soft lepton and pion pairs. Virtual photon contributions are given within a logarithmic accuracy. Box type Feynman amplitudes with leptonic and hadronic vacuum polarization insertion are considered explicitly as well as double box ones. Wherever appropriate analytic expressions obtained are compared with those predicted by a structu…
We have calculated the polarization of the final nucleon in charged current quasi-elastic ν-N scattering. We show that the longitudinal and transverse polarizations, as well as their ratio exhibit simple dependence on the axial form factor and their sensitivity to the axial mass is much stronger than that of the cross section. This suggests that measurements of the polarization of the nucleon in the high-statistics neutrino experiments could provide important information on the axial form factor.
The role of the pion in the parity-conserving and parity-violating quasi-elastic nuclear response functions is analyzed within a relativistic model which fulfills gauge invariance.
We study the elastic and radiative pi+ p scattering within a full dynamical model which incorporates the finite width effects of the Delta++. The scattering amplitudes are invariant under contact transformations of the spin 3/2 field and gauge-invariance is fulfilled for the radiative case. The pole parameters of the Delta++ obtained from the elastic cross section are m_Delta = 1211.2 \pm 0.4 MeV and Gamma_Delta = 88.2 \pm 0.4 MeV. From a fit to the most sensitive observables in radiative pi+ p scattering, we obtain mu_Delta = 6.14 \pm 0.51 e/2m_p for the magnetic dipole moment of the Delta++.
A parton picture of inclusive quasi-elastic electron-nucleus scattering, where individual nucleons are treated as (non point-like) partons of the nucleus, is presented. All the necessary target-mass corrections to asymptotic scaling are evaluated and a new scaling variable is obtained. Recent inclusive data from Jefferson Lab are analyzed and shown to scale in terms of the new variable. The new approach allows to extract in a model-independent way the nucleon light-cone momentum distribution in the nucleus.
Accelerator neutrino oscillation experiments seek to make precision measurements of the neutrino flavor oscillations muon (anti)neutrino to electron (anti)neutrino in order to determine the mass hierarchy of neutrinos and to search for CP violation in neutrino oscillations. These experiments are currently performed with beams of muon neutrinos at energies near 1 GeV where the charged-current quasi-elastic interactions nu+n\rightarrow(l^-)+p and anti-nu+p\rightarrow(l^+)+n dominate the signal reactions. We examine the difference between the quasi-elastic cross-sections for muon and electron neu…
A non-technical overview of charge current quasi-elastic neutrino interaction is presented. Many body computations of multinucleon ejection which is proposed to explain recent large axial mass measurements are discussed. A few comments on recent experimental results reported at NuInt11 workshop are included.
We discuss a new approach to final state interactions, that keeps explicitly into account the virtuality of the ejected nucleon in quasi-elastic $A(e,e'p)X$ scattering at very large $Q^2$, and we present some recent results, at moderately large $Q^2$ values, for the nuclear transparency in $^4He$, $^{16}O$ and $^{40}Ca$ and for the momentum distributions of $^4He$.
The charged-current quasi-elastic scattering of muon neutrino on the oxygen target is analyzed for neutrino energy up to 2.5 GeV using the Relativistic Distorted-Wave Impulse Approximation (RDWIA). The inclusive cross sections $d^2σ/dQ^2$, calculated within the RDWIA, are lower than the Relativistic Fermi Gas Model (RFGM) results in the range of the square of four-momentum transfer $Q^2\leq$0.2 (GeV/c)$^2$. We have also studied the nuclear-model dependence of the neutrino energy reconstruction accuracy using the charged-current quasi-elastic events with no detector effects and background. We f…
Recently proposed Transverse Enhancement Model of nuclear effects in Charge Current Quasi-Elastic neutrino scattering [A. Bodek, H. S. Budd, and M. E. Christy, Eur. Phys. J. C{\bf 71} (2011) 1726] is confronted with the MiniBooNE high statistics experimental data. It is shown that the {\it effective} large axial mass model leads to better agreement with the data.
Flux-integrated semi-exclusive differential and integral cross sections for quasi-elastic neutrino charged-current scattering on argon are analyzed. We calculate these cross sections using the relativistic distorted-wave impulse approximation and compare with recent MicroBooNE data. We found that the measured cross sections can be described well within the experimental uncertainties with value of the nucleon axial mass $1 < M_A < 1.2$ GeV. The contribution of the exclusive channel $\boldmath{(ν_μ, μp)}$ to the flux-integrated inclusive cross sections is about 50\%.
We present recent measurements of neutrino charged current quasi-elastic (CC QE) scattering, nu_mu + p -> mu- + n. Measurements of CC QE on carbon near 1 GeV by MiniBooNE and SciBooNE, as well as measurements on iron at 3 GeV by MINOS, disagree with current interaction models, while measurements at higher energies on carbon by NOMAD show excellent agreement with those same models.
The excitation of two particle-two hole final states in neutrino-nucleus scattering, not taken into account in Monte Carlo simulations for data analysis, has been advocated by many authors as the source of the excess cross section observed by the MiniBooNE collaboration in the quasi elastic channel. We analyse the mechanisms leading to the appearance of two particle-two hole states, and show that interference between the amplitudes involving one- and two-nucleon currents, not consistently included in existing calculations, plays a major role. A novel approach allowing to treat one- and two-nuc…
Quasielastic double differential neutrino cross sections can be obtained in a phenomenological model based on the superscaling behavior of electron scattering data. In this talk the superscaling approach (SuSA) is reviewed and its validity is tested in a relativistic shell model. Results including meson exchange currents for the kinematics of the MiniBoone experiment are presented.
The use of quasi-elastic electron nucleus scattering is shown to provide significant constraints on models of the proton electromagnetic form factor of off-shell nucleons. Such models can be constructed to be consistent with constraints from current conservation and low-energy theorems, while also providing a contribution to the Lamb shift that might potentially resolve the proton radius puzzle in muonic hydrogen. However, observations of quasi-elastic scattering limit the overall strength of the off-shell form factors to values that correspond to small contributions to the Lamb shift.
