Many quantum integrable systems are obtained using an accelerator physics technique known as Ermakov (or normalized variables) transformation. This technique was used to create classical nonlinear integrable lattices for accelerators and nonlinear integrable plasma traps. Now, all classical results are carried over to a nonrelativistic quantum case.
Present understanding of accelerator optics is based mainly on classical mechanics and electrodynamics. In recent years quantum theory of charged-particle beam optics has been under development. In this paper the newly developed formalism is outlined.
The quantum dynamics of a periodically driven system, the delta-kicked accelerator, is investigated in the semiclassical and pseudo-classical regimes, where quantum accelerator modes are observed. We construct the evolution operator of this classically chaotic system explicitly. If certain quantum resonance conditions are fullfilled, we show one can reduce the evolution operator to a finite matrix, whose eigenvectors are the quasi-eigenstates. These are represented by their Husimi functions. In so doing, we are able to directly compare the pure quantum states with the classical states. In the …
This paper presents the definition and implementation of a quantum computer architecture to enable creating a new computational device - a quantum computer as an accelerator. In this paper, we present explicitly the idea of a quantum accelerator which contains the full stack of the layers of an accelerator. Such a stack starts at the highest level describing the target application of the accelerator. The next layer abstracts the quantum logic outlining the algorithm that is to be executed on the quantum accelerator. In our case, the logic is expressed in the universal quantum-classical hybrid …
Quantum Accelerator Modes have been experimentally observed, and theoretically explained, in the dynamics of kicked cold atoms in the presence of gravity, when the kicking period is close to a half-integer multiple of the Talbot time. We generalize the theory to the case when the kicking period is sufficiently close to any rational multiple of the Talbot time, and thus predict new rich families of experimentally observable Quantum Accelerator Modes.
Quantized integrable systems can be made to perform universal quantum computation by the application of a global time-varying control. The action-angle variables of the integrable system function as qubits or qudits, which can be coupled selectively by the global control to induce universal quantum logic gates. By contrast, chaotic quantum systems, even if controllable, do not generically allow quantum computation under global control.
Photon-induced near-field electron microscopy (PINEM) is a currently developing spectral approach that characterizes quantum electron-light interactions in electron energy gain/loss spectrum, with symmetrically discretized gains or losses of light quanta ($\hbar ω$), coupled with a laser induced optical near-field. In this letter, we have demonstrated that Linear Particle Accelerator (LPA) and anomalous PINEM (APINEM) can analytically emerge from PINEM-kind interaction in a strong coupling regime, because of quantum interference of spectral photon sidebands overlap. Furthermore, we also found …
We consider the influence of the inclusion of interatomic interactions on the delta-kicked accelerator model. Our analysis concerns in particular quantum accelerator modes, namely quantum ballistic transport near quantal resonances. The atomic interaction is modelled by a Gross-Pitaevskii cubic nonlinearity, and we address both attractive (focusing) and repulsive (defocusing) cases. The most remarkable effect is enhancement or damping of the accelerator modes, depending on the sign of the nonlinear parameter. We provide arguments showing that the effect persists beyond mean-field description, …
The classical limit of non-integrable quantum systems is studied. We define non-integrable quantum systems as those which have, as their classical limit, a non-integrable classical system. In order to obtain this limit, the self-induced decoherence approach and the corresponding classical limit are generalized from integrable to non-integrable systems. In this approach, the lost of information, usually conceived as the result of a coarse-graining or the trace of an environment, is produced by a particular choice of the algebra of observables and the systematic use of mean values, that project …
The stable periodic orbits of an area-preserving map on the 2-torus, which is formally a variant of the Standard Map, have been shown to explain the quantum accelerator modes that were discovered in experiments with laser-cooled atoms. We show that their parametric dependence exhibits Arnol'd-like tongues and perform a perturbative analysis of such structures. We thus explain the arithmetical organisation of the accelerator modes and discuss experimental implications thereof.
The evolution pattern of level crossings and exceptional points is studied in a non-integrable pairing model with two different integrable limits. One of the integrable limits has two independent parameter-dependent integrals of motion. We demonstrate, and illustrate in our model, that quantum integrability of a system with more than one parameter-dependent integral of motion is always signaled by level crossings of a complex-extended Hamiltonian. We also find that integrability implies a reduced number of exceptional points. Both properties could uniquely characterize quantum integrability in…
We show that the integrable Lindblad superoperators found recently can be used to build integrable nonunitary quantum circuits with two-site gates by demonstrating that the $\check{R}$-matrices are completely positive and trace preserving. Using the bond-site transformation, we obtain the corresponding integrable nonunitary quantum circuits with three-site gates. When restricted to the diagonals of the density matrix, these quantum models reduce to integrable classical cellular automata. This approach may pave the way for a systematic construction of integrable nonunitary quantum circuits.
Quantum Accelerator Modes were discovered in experiments with Kicked Cold Atoms in the presence of gravity. They were shown to be tightly related to resonances of the Quantum Kicked Rotor. In this paper a spinor formalism is developed for the analysis of Modes associatedwith resonances of arbitrary order q>1. Decoupling of spin variables from orbital ones is achieved by means of an ansatz of the Born-Oppenheimer type, that generates q independent band dynamics. Each of these is described, in classical terms, by a map, and the stable periodic orbits of this map give rise to quantum accelerator …
A new version of hidden variables theory founded on the generalisation of world's geometry is proposed. The quantum-mechanical motion as the motion in some "inner space", which has a structure of the integrable Weyl space is examined. Equations of motion for a quantum particle as well as equations for the quantum-mechanical field, "guiding" the particle, are deduced. The wave equation for quantum ensembles, the Born's interpretation of wave function and the "guiding equation" as consequences of proposed model are obtained.
Integrable quantum computation is defined as quantum computing via the integrable condition, in which two-qubit gates are either nontrivial unitary solutions of the Yang--Baxter equation or the Swap gate (permutation). To make the definition clear, in this article, we explore the physics underlying the quantum circuit model, and then present a unified description on both quantum computing via the Bethe ansatz and quantum computing via the Yang--Baxter equation.
A simple model of quantum ratchet transport that can generate unbounded linear acceleration of the quantum ratchet current is proposed, with the underlying classical dynamics fully chaotic. The results demonstrate that generic acceleration of quantum ratchet transport can occur with any type of classical phase space structure. The quantum ratchet transport with full classical chaos is also shown to be very robust to noise due to the large linear acceleration afforded by the quantum dynamics. One possible experiment allowing observation of these predictions is suggested.
In a quantum ratchet accelerator system, a linearly increasing directed current can be dynamically generated without using a biased field. Generic quantum ratchet acceleration with full classical chaos [Gong and Brumer, Phys. Rev. Lett. 97, 240602 (2006)] constitutes a new element of quantum chaos and an interesting violation of a sum rule of classical ratchet transport. Here we propose a simple quantum ratchet accelerator model that can also generate linearly increasing quantum current with full classical chaos. This new model does not require a bichromatic lattice potential. It is based on a…
We consider the problem of quantum-classical correspondence in integrable field theories. We propose a method to construct a field theoretical coherent state, in which the expectation value of the quantum field operator exactly coincides with the classical soliton. We also discuss the time evolution of this quantum state and the instability due to the nonlinearity.
For efficient hardware-accelerated simulations of quantum circuits, we can define hardware-specific quantum-circuit transformations. We use a functional programming approach to create a quantum-circuit analysis and transformation method implemented in Haskell. This tool forms a key part of our larger quantum-computing simulation toolchain. As an example of hardware acceleration, we discuss FPGA-based simulations of selected quantum arithmetic circuits, including the transformation steps to optimise the hardware utilisation. Future development steps in the Haskell-based analysis and transformat…

Invariant Subspace Problem in Hilbert Spaces: Exploring Applications in Quantum Mechanics, Control Theory, Operator Algebras, Functional Analysis and Accelerator Physics
Unexpected accelerator modes were recently observed experimentally for cold cesium atoms when driven in the presence of gravity. A detailed theoretical explanation of this quantum effect is presented here. The theory makes use of invariance properties of the system, that are similar to the ones of solids, leading to a separation into independent kicked rotor problems. The analytical solution makes use of a limit that is very similar to the semiclassical limit, but with a small parameter that is not Planck's constant, but rather the detuning from the frequency that is resonant in absence of gra…
It is shown that planar quantum dynamics can be related to 3-body quantum dynamics in the space of relative motion with a special class of potentials. As an important special case the $O(d)$ symmetry reduction from $d$ degrees of freedom to one degree is presented. A link between two-dimensional (super-integrable) systems and 3-body (super-integrable) systems is revealed. As illustration we present number of examples. We demonstrate that the celebrated Calogero-Wolfes 3-body potential has a unique property: two-dimensional quantum dynamics coincides with 3-body quantum dynamics on the line at …
Quantum integrable systems and their classical counterparts are considered. We show that the symplectic structure and invariant tori of the classical system can be deformed by a quantization parameter $\hbar$ to produce a new (classical) integrable system. The new tori selected by the $\hbar$-equidistance rule represent the spectrum of the quantum system up to $O(\hbar^\infty)$ and are invariant under quantum dynamics in the long-time range $O(\hbar^{-\infty})$. The quantum diffusion over the deformed tori is described. The analytic apparatus uses quantum action-angle coordinates explicitly co…
Given a completely integrable system, we associate to any connection on its invariant tori fibred over a parameter manifold the classical and quantum holonomy operator (generalized Berry's phase factor), without any adiabatic approximation.
We present an approach to higher dimensional Darboux transformations suitable for application to quantum integrable systems and based on the bispectral property of partial differential operators. Specifically, working with the algebro-geometric definition of quantum integrability, we utilize the bispectral duality of quantum Hamiltonian systems to construct non-trivial Darboux transformations between completely integrable quantum systems. As an application, we are able to construct new quantum integrable systems as the Darboux transforms of trivial examples (such as symmetric products of one d…

Quantum computers hold great promise for accelerating computationally challenging algorithms on noisy intermediate-scale quantum (NISQ) devices in the upcoming years. Much attention of the current research is directed to algorithmic research on artificial data that is disconnected from live systems, such as optimization of systems or training of learning algorithms. In this paper we investigate the integration of quantum systems into industry-grade system architectures. In this work we propose a system architecture for the integration of quantum accelerators. In order to evaluate our proposed …
Classically integrable approximants are here constructed for a family of predominantly chaotic periodic systems by means of the Baker-Hausdorff-Campbell formula. We compare the evolving wave density for the corresponding exact quantum systems using semiclassical approximations based alternatively on the chaotic and on the integrable trajectories. It is found that the latter reproduce the quantum oscillations and provide superior approximations even when the initial coherent state is placed in a broad chaotic region. Time regimes are then accessed in which the propagation based on the system's …
Using a new class of exactly solvable models based on the pairing interaction, we show that it is possible to construct integrable Hamiltonians with a Wigner distribution of nearest neighbor level spacings. However, these Hamiltonians involve many-body interactions and the addition of a small integrable perturbation very quickly leads the system to a Poisson distribution. Besides this exceptional cases, we show that the accumulated distribution of an ensemble of random integrable two-body pairing hamiltonians is in perfect agreement with the Poisson limit. These numerical results for quantum i…
Experimentally observable Quantum Accelerator Modes are used as a test case for the study of some general aspects of quantum decay from classical stable islands immersed in a chaotic sea. The modes are shown to correspond to metastable states, analogous to the Wannier-Stark resonances. Different regimes of tunneling, marked by different quantitative dependence of the lifetimes on 1/hbar, are identified, depending on the resolution of KAM substructures that is achieved on the scale of hbar. The theory of Resonance Assisted Tunneling introduced by Brodier, Schlagheck, and Ullmo [9], is revisited…

In this paper we construct integrable three-dimensional quantum-mechanical systems with magnetic fields, admitting pairs of commuting second-order integrals of motion. The case of Cartesian coordinates is considered. Most of the systems obtained are new and not related to the separation of variables in the corresponding Schrödinger equation.
Two integrable cases of two-dimensional Schrödinger equation with a magnetic field are proposed. Using the polar coordinates and the symmetrical gauge, we will obtain solutions of these equation through Biconfluent and Confluent Heun functions. The quantization rules will be derived for both systems under consideration.
We review the dynamics after quantum quenches in integrable quantum spin chains. We give a pedagogical introduction to relaxation in isolated quantum systems, and discuss the description of the steady state by (gen- eralized) Gibbs ensembles. When then turn to general features in the time evolution of local observables after the quench, using a simple model of free fermions as an example. In the second part we present an overview of recent progress in describing quench dynamics in two key paradigms for quantum integrable models, the transverse field Ising chain and the anisotropic spin-1/2 Hei…
We formulate a set of conditions under which dynamics of a time-dependent quantum Hamiltonian are integrable. The main requirement is the existence of a nonabelian gauge field with zero curvature in the space of system parameters. Known solvable multistate Landau-Zener models satisfy these conditions. Our method provides a strategy to incorporate time-dependence into various quantum integrable models, so that the resulting non-stationary Schrodinger equation is exactly solvable. We also validate some prior conjectures, including the solution of the driven generalized Tavis-Cummings model.
We construct an interacting integrable Floquet model featuring quasiparticle excitations with topologically nontrivial chiral dispersion. This model is a fully quantum generalization of an integrable classical cellular automaton. We write down and solve the Bethe equations for the generalized quantum model, and show that these take on a particularly simple form that allows for an exact solution: essentially, the quasiparticles behave like interacting hard rods. The generalized thermodynamics and hydrodynamics of this model follow directly. Although the model is interacting, its unusually simpl…
A class of integrable 2-dim classical systems with integrals of motion of fourth order in momenta is obtained from the quantum analogues with the help of deformed SUSY algebra. With similar technique a new class of potentials connected with Lax method is found which provides the integrability of corresponding 2-dim hamiltonian systems. In addition, some integrable 2-dim systems with potentials expressed in elliptic functions are explored.
