The existence of non-strange partner of pentaquark, the J^p = 1/2^+ narrow resonance, has been investigated by utilizing kaon photoproduction off a proton. It is found that the corresponding mass is 1650 MeV and the appropriate observables for investigating this resonance are the recoiled hyperon polarization, the beam-recoil double polarization C_x, and differential cross section at backward angles. Future kaon photoproduction experiments at low energies should focus on these observables.
By using the Gerasimov-Drell-Hearn (GDH) sum rule and an isobaric model of kaon photoproduction, we calculate contributions of kaon-hyperon final states to the magnetic moment of the proton and the neutron. We find that the contributions are small. The approximation of sigma_{TT'} by sigma_{T} clearly overestimates the value of the GDH integral. We find a smaller upper bound for the contributions of kaon-hyperon final states to the proton's anomalous magnetic moment in kaon photoproduction, and a positive contribution for the square of the neutron's magnetic moment.
Kaon photoproduction on the nucleon has been investigated in the isobar (Feynman) and Regge frameworks. Two possible combinations of the theories are discussed. Results are compared with present experimental data.
In this paper, we develop a general framework to study the meson-photoproductions of nucleons in the chiral quark model. The S and U channel resonance contributions are expressed in terms of the Chew-Goldberger-Low-Nambu (CGLN) amplitudes. The kaon-photoproduction processes, $γp\to K^+ Λ$, $γp\to K^+ Σ^0$, and $γp\to K^0Σ^+$, are calculated. The initial results show that the quark model provides a much improved description of the reaction mechanism for the kaon-photoproductions of the nucleon with less parameters than the traditional phenomenological approaches.
New kaon photoproduction data on a proton, gamma + p --> K+ + Lambda, are analyzed using a multipole approach. The background terms are given in terms of gauge invariant, crossing symmetric, Born diagrams with hadronic form factors, while the resonances are parameterized using Breit-Wigner forms. Preliminary results suggest a number of new resonances, as predicted by many quark model studies. A comparison between the extracted multipoles and those obtained from KAON-MAID is presented.
Kaon photoproduction on the deuteron is investigated by considering YN and KN rescattering and the two-step process gamma d --> pi NN --> KYN. A strong enhancement in the total cross section is found from the two-step process. YN rescattering has remarkable effects in the inclusive and exclusive cross section, while the effect of KN rescattering is much less important.
Final state hyperon-nucleon interaction in strangeness photoproduction of the deuteron is investigated making use of the covariant reaction formalism and the P-matrix approach to the YN system. Remarkably simple analytical expression for the amplitude is obtained. Pronounced effects due to final state interaction are predicted including the manifestation of the 2.13 GeV resonance.
The new experimental data of kaon photoproduction on the nucleon, gamma p -> K+ Lambda, have been analyzed by means of a multipoles model. Different from the previous models, in this analysis the resonance decay widths are constrained to the values given by the Particle Data Group (PDG). The result indicates that constraining these parameters to the PDG values could dramatically change the conclusion of the important resonances in this reaction found in the previous studies.
Single and double polarization observables for kaon photoproduction on the deuteron are studied theoretically with modern hyperon-nucleon forces. The kinematical region of the kaon scattered forward with large momentum is thoroughly investigated where either the quasifree scattering leading to the kaon and hyperon or the final-state interaction between hyperon and nucleon are expected. The quasifree scatterings show characteristic peaks in the inclusive cross sections. The final-state interaction effects are significant, especially around the Lambda-N and Sigma-N thresholds. The double polariz…
We analyze the electromagnetic production of K^+Lambda and K^0Lambda near their production thresholds by using isobar models. In the K^+Lambda channel we show that the model can nicely describe the available experimental data. In the K^0Lambda channel we demonstrate that the K^0 charge form factor has sizable effects on the longitudinal cross section. By extending the model up to W = 1730 MeV, we are able to observe the existence of the narrow P_{11} (J^p = 1/2^+) resonance in the kaon photoproduction process. It is found that the most convincing mass (width) of this resonance is 1650 MeV (5 M…
Investigations of the quasifree reaction A$(γ, K Y)$B are presented in the distorted wave impulse approximation (DWIA). For this purpose, we present a revised tree-level model of elementary kaon photoproduction that incorporates hadronic form factors consistent with gauge invariance, uses SU(3) values for the Born couplings and uses resonances consistent with multi-channel analyses. The potential of exclusive quasifree kaon photoproduction on nuclei to reveal details of the hyperon-nucleus interaction is examined. Detailed predictions for the coincidence cross section, the photon asymmetry, an…
We present a coupled channel partial wave analysis of nondiffractive S-wave pi+ pi- and K+ K- photoproduction focusing on the KK threshold. Final state interactions are included. We calculate total cross sections, angular and effective mass distributions in both pion-pion and kaon-antikaon channels. Our results indicate that these processes are experimentally measurable and valuable information on the f0(980) resonance structure can be obtained.
Kaon photoproductions on the proton gamma p --> K+Sigma0 and gamma p --> K0Sigma+ have been simultaneously analyzed by using isobar models and new SAPHIR data. The result shows that isobar models such as KAON MAID require more resonances in order to explain the data.
Strangeness photoproduction of the deuteron is investigated theoretically making use of the covariant reaction formalism and the P-matrix approach the final state hyperon-nucleon interaction. Remarkably simple analytical expression for the amplitude is obtained. Pronounced effects due to final state interaction are predicted.
New SAPHIR p(gamma,K+)Lambda total cross section data show a resonance structure at a total c.m. energy around 1900 MeV. We investigate this feature with an isobar model and find that the structure can be well explained by including a new D_{13} resonance at 1895 MeV. Such a state has been predicted by a relativistic quark model at 1960 MeV with significant gamma-N and K-Lambda branching ratios. We demonstrate how the measurement of the photon asymmetry can be used to further study this resonance. In addition, verification of the predicted large decay widths into the eta-N and eta'-N channels …
We identify the leading s-wave amplitudes of the SU(3) chiral meson-baryon Lagrangian with an effective coupled-channel potential which is iterated in a Lippmann-Schwinger equation. The strangeness $S=-1$ resonance $Λ(1405)$ and the $S_{11}(1535)$ nucleon resonance emerge as quasi-bound states of anti-kaon/nucleon and kaon/$Σ$-hyperon. Our approach to meson photoproduction introduces no new parameters. By adjusting a few finite range parameters we are able to simultaneously describe a large amount of low energy data. These include the cross sections of $K^-p$ elastic and inelastic scattering, …
A simple model for the photoproduction of kaons off protons with a lambda hyperon in the final state is presented. In a quark model, the interaction is modelled by the pair-creation of the (anti-) strange quarks in the final state which recombine with the three quarks of the proton to form the lambda and kaon. The calculated scattering cross sections for photon energies up to $E_γ= 1.9 \; \mbox{GeV}$ are compared to experiment. The pair-creation process is found to have a significant contribution to the total cross section.
We study the role of magnetic interaction in the photoproduction of the kaon and hyperon. We find that the inclusion of a higher order diagram induced by the Wess-Zumio-Witten term has a significant contribution to the magnetic amplitude, which is compatible to the observed photon asymmetry in the forward angle region. This enables us to use the K^* coupling constants which have been determined in a microscopic way rather than the phenomenological ones which differ largely from the microscopic ones.
Kaon photo- and electroproduction off the nucleon is investigated in the framework of an isobaric model up to energies of about 1 GeV above threshold for all six isospin channels. The hadronic coupling constants in the model are determined by fitting to the available experimental data. We give a brief status report on the state of these models and discuss problems to be attacked in the future. We include hadronic form factors and show that they are essential for a proper description of the dynamics even though their inclusion has to be done carefully in order to preserve gauge invariance. We a…
The magnitude of four independent amplitudes are determined in charged kaon photoproduction in the energy range of 1500 to 2300MeV incident photon. Differential cross section and three polarization parameters are required for such amplitudes reconstruction at different kaon scattering angles. This analysis has indicated that the magnitudes of spin-flip amplitudes of the target nucleon dominate over the non-flip ones in all energies and scattering angles. The results have been compared with the solution of phase shift analysis sp98 at all energies. This analysis indicates that here is a good ag…
We have investigated phenomenological aspects of kaon photoproduction in three different extreme kinematics. The first kinematics of interest is the threshold region. At the threshold we have investigated the convergence of kaon photoproduction amplitude by expanding the square of the amplitude in terms of the ratio $m_K/m$, where $m_K$ is the mass of kaon and $m$ is the averaged mass of nucleon and $Λ$-hyperon. The amplitude is calculated from the appropriate Feynman diagrams by using the pseudovector theory. The contact diagram as a consequence of the PCAC hypothesis is also taken into accou…
Based on the hadronic model with the gauge prescription suggested by Ohta and Haberzettl, we investigate the possibility of determining the parity state of the $Θ^+$ baryon using photon induced processes, $γn\to K^- Θ^+$ and $γp\to \bar{K}^0 Θ^+$. The total and differential cross sections are simulated in two versions of pseudovector(PV) and pseudoscalar(PS) coupling schemes and the results are reported both on the positive and negative parity states of the $Θ^+$ baryon. It is found that in both coupling schemes the total cross sections from the neutron target are in general larger than those …
S-wave photoproduction of pion and kaon pairs on hydrogen is studied. Coupled channel final state interactions between different pseudoscalar mesons are included. Effective mass and momentum transfer distributions as well as total cross sections are calculated. Effective mass distributions in the Born approximation are structureless but the final state interactions produce peaks and dips near the energies corresponding to the scalar resonances f0(980) and f0(1400). Calculations are performed in the effective mass region between the pion-pion threshold and 1.6 GeV in the range of the momentum t…
We reinvestigate the photoproduction of the exotic pentaquark baryon Theta^+(1540,1/2^+) from the gamma N -> Kbar Theta^+ reaction process within the effective Lagrangian approach, taking into account new theoretical information on the K-N-Theta and K*-N-Theta coupling strengths from the chiral quark-soliton model (chiQSM). We also consider the crossing-symmetric hadronic form factor, satisfying the on-shell condition as well. Due to the sizable vector and tensor couplings for the vector kaon, g_{K* N Theta} and f_{K* N Theta}, which are almost the same with the vector coupling g_{K N Theta} ~…
The recently published experimental data on K+Lambda photoproduction by the SAPHIR, CLAS, and LEPS collaborations are analyzed by means of a multipole approach. For this purpose the background amplitudes are constructed from appropriate Feynman diagrams in a gauge-invariant and crossing-symmetric fashion. The results of our calculation emphasize the lack of mutual consistency between the SAPHIR and CLAS data previously found by several independent research groups, whereas the LEPS data are found to be more consistent with those of CLAS. The use of SAPHIR and CLAS data, individually or simultan…
We present a gauge invariant approach to photoproduction of mesons on nucleons within a chiral unitary framework. The interaction kernel for meson-baryon scattering is derived from the chiral effective Lagrangian and iterated in a Bethe-Salpeter equation. Within the leading order approximation to the interaction kernel, data on kaon photoproduction from SAPHIR, CLAS and CBELSA/TAPS are analyzed in the threshold region. The importance of gauge invariance and the precision of various approximations in the interaction kernel utilized in earlier works are discussed.
The existence of the $J^p=1/2^+$ narrow resonance predicted by the chiral soliton model has been investigated by utilizing the new kaon photoproduction data. For this purpose, we have constructed two phenomenological models, which are able to describe kaon photoproduction from threshold up to W=1730 MeV. By varying the resonance mass, width, and $KΛ$ branching ratio in this energy range we found that the most convincing mass of this resonance is 1650 MeV. Using this result we estimate the masses of other antidecuplet family members.
We have studied the partial wave interference effects to obtain a new information about the contribution of the S-wave to the cross section of the K+K- photoproduction on hydrogen. The K+K- photoproduction channel for the effective masses around 1 GeV is dominated by the phi(1020) resonance with only a small fraction of events coming from decays of scalar resonances f0(980) and a0(980). However, a careful analysis of angular distributions of the outgoing kaons shows that the S-wave adds an asymmetry to the angular distribution of kaons. A fairly precise estimation of the K+K- photoproduction c…
Amplitude and partial wave analyses for pion, eta or kaon photoproduction are discussed in the context of `complete experiments'. It is shown that the model-independent helicity amplitudes obtained from at least 8 polarization observables including beam, target and recoil polarization can not be used to determine underlying resonance parameters. However, a truncated partial wave analysis, which theoretically requires only 5 observables will be possible with minimal model input.
In this letter we study the photoproduction of scalar mesons in the intermediate energies considering distinct mixing scenarios in the description of meson physical states. The differential and integrated total cross section are computed for the cases of the mesons a_0(980), f_0(1500) and f_0(1710) focusing the GlueX energy regime with photon energy equal to 9 GeV. Our results indicate that light-quark scalar meson photoproduction is well suited for studying hybrid mesons structure.
The elastic differential and integrated total cross section for the exclusive $ρ^0$ photoproduction in electron-proton ($ep$) collisions are evaluated taking into account nonperturbative Pomeron exchange approach. By using three different models based on Regge phenomenology the results are compared to recent measurements by H1 Collaboration in $ep$ collisions and by the CMS collaboration from ultraperipheral proton-lead collisions. The analysis is expanded by calculating the coherent nuclear cross section, $σ(γA\rightarrow ρ^0 A)$, which is applied to $ρ^0$ production in ultraperipheral lead-l…
We have investigated the role of hyperon resonances in the kaon photoproduction process, $γp\to K^+Λ$, by using a covariant isobar model. To this end, new experimental data are used in the fitting process, whereas the old SAPHIR 1998 data are also used for comparison. The result indicates that the $Λ(1600)P_{01}$ and $Λ(1810)P_{01}$ hyperon resonances can significantly reduce the $χ^2$ and, simultaneously, can increase the hadronic form factor cut-off in the background terms. This finding is different from the result of the previous studies, which showed that the $Λ(1800)S_{01}$ was important …
We have analyzed the experimental data on K+Lambda photoproduction by using a multipole approach. In this analysis we use the background amplitudes constructed from appropriate Feynman diagrams in a gauge-invariant and crossing-symmetric fashion. Results of our analysis reveal the problem of mutual consistency between the new SAPHIR and CLAS data. We found that the problem could lead to different conclusions on ``missing resonances''. We have also extended our analysis to the finite Q^2 region and compared the result with the corresponding electroproduction data.
We investigate the theoretical uncertainty on the predictions for the photoproduction of $ρ$ and $J/Ψ$ states in nucleus-nucleus collisions at Run 2 LHC energies using the Color Dipole formalism. The results for rapidity distributions and total cross sections are presented. Moreover, we compare directly the theoretical results to the recent preliminary data from ALICE collaboration on $ρ$ production in $PbPb$ collisions at central rapidity.
We investigate photoproduction of $ϕ$-mesons off protons within a coupled-channel effective-Lagrangian method which is based on the K-matrix approach. Since the threshold energy of the $KΛ(1520)$ channel is close to that of $ϕN$, the contribution of this channel to $ϕ$-photoproduction near the threshold energy region may give rise to some unexpected structures. In the transition amplitude $KΛ(1520) \to ϕN$, the kinematics allows an intermediate kaon to be on-shell. This happens in the energy region where a peak structure has been observed in $ϕ$-photoproduction. In our calculations the on-shel…
The exclusive vector meson production cross section is one of the most promising observables to probe the high energy regime of the QCD dynamics. In particular, the squared momentum transfer ($t$) distributions are an important source of information about the spatial distribution of the gluons in the hadron and about fluctuations of the color fields. In this paper we complement previous studies on exclusive vector meson photoproduction in hadronic collisions presenting a comprehensive analysis of the $t$ - spectrum measured in exclusive $ρ$, $ϕ$ and $J/Ψ$ photoproduction in $pp$ and $PbPb$ col…
In this paper we propose to investigate the transverse single spin asymmetry in the inelastic $J/Ψ$ photoproduction in $p^\uparrow p$ and $p^\uparrow A$ collisions at RHIC energies. At leading order this process probes the gluon Sivers function. We predict large values for the cross sections, which indicates that its experimental analysis is, in principle, feasible. The rapidity dependence of the single spin asymmetry is presented. We obtain that the asymmetry is strongly dependent on the model used for the gluon Sivers function and that it can be probed by the analysis of the $J/Ψ$ production…
By using a covariant isobar model and the latest experimental data we have analyzed the role of the $P_{13}(1900)$ and $D_{13}(2080)$ resonances in the kaon photoproduction process $γp\to K^+Λ$. Special attention has been paid to the region where the second peak in the cross section is located, i.e. at total c.m. energies around 1.9 GeV. It is found that this peak originates mostly from the $P_{13}(1900)$ resonance contribution. Although the contribution of the $D_{13}(2080)$ resonance is not negligible, it is much smaller than that of the $P_{13}(1900)$ state. Our finding confirms that the $P…
We have investigated the existence of the J^p=1/2^+ narrow resonance predicted by the chiral soliton model by utilizing the kaon photoproduction process gamma + p --> K^+ + Lambda. For this purpose we have constructed two phenomenological models based on our previous effective Lagrangian model, which are able to describe kaon photoproduction from threshold up to W = 1730 MeV. By varying the mass (width) of an inserted P_{11} resonance from 1620 to 1730 MeV (0.1 to 1 MeV and 1 to 10 MeV) a number of fits has been performed in order to search for the resonance mass. Our result indicates that the…
Kaon photo- and electroproduction off a proton near the production threshold are investigated by utilizing an isobar model. The background amplitude of the model is constructed from Feynman diagrams, whereas the resonance term is calculated by using the multipole formalism. It is found that both pseudoscalar and pseudovector models can nicely describe the available photoproduction data up to W = 50 MeV above the threshold. The Lambda resonance S_{01}(1800) is found to play an important role in improving the model. In the case of double polarization observables Ox and Oz our result corroborates…
We study first the box-diagram contribution to the $γp\,\rightarrow \,K^0Σ^+$ process to understand the anomaly of the kaon photoproduction cross section from CBELSA/TAPS experiment at Electron Stretcher Accelerator (ELSA), where the imaginary part of the scattering amplitude from the box-diagrams is calculated by using Cutkosky's rules in the on-shell approximation while the real part of the amplitude is derived by dispersion relation calculations. Together with the results of the K-MAID model, the contribution of the box-diagrams fails to provide the sudden drop of the differential cross-sec…
We investigate the unpolarized electroproduction of $Λ(1520)\equivΛ^*$ off the nucleon target, using the effective Lagrangian method at the tree-level Born approximation with the nucleon-resonance contributions from $S_{11}(2090)$, $D_{13}(2080)$, and $D_{15}(2200)$. First, we compute the various physical quantities for the proton target case, such as the total and differential cross sections, $t$-momentum transfer distribution, and $K^-$ decay-angle ($ϕ$) distribution. It turns out that $D_{13}$ plays an important role to reproduce the electroproduction data properly. The numerical results fo…
We investigate kaon photoproduction off the neutron target, i.e., $γn \to K^0 Λ$, focusing on the role of nucleon resonances given in the Review of Particle Data Group in the range of $\sqrt{s} \approx 1600 - 2200$ MeV. We employ an effective Lagrangian method and a Regge approach. The strong couplings of nucleon resonances with $KΛ$ vertices are constrained by quark model predictions. The numerical results of the total and differential cross sections are found to be in qualitative agreement with the recent CLAS and FOREST experimental data. We discuss the effects of the narrow nucleon resonan…
Measurements of production of the neutral and charged strange hadrons in ep collisions with the ZEUS detector are presented. The data on differential cross sections, baryon-to-meson ratios, baryon-antibaryon asymmetry and Bose-Einstein correlations in deep inelastic scattering and photoproduction are summarized.
In this paper, we calculate the ratio of Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix elements, $|V_{ub}|/|V_{cb}|$, based on the semileptonic decay $B_s^0\to K^-μ^+ν_μ$. Its key component, the $B_s\to K$ transition form factor $f^{B_s\to K}_+(q^2)$, is studied within the QCD light-cone sum rules approach by using a chiral correlator. The derived $f^{B_s\to K}_+(q^2)$ is dominated by the leading-twist part, and to improve its precision, we construct a new model for the kaon leading-twist distribution amplitude $ϕ_{2;K}(x,μ)$, whose parameters are fixed by using the least squares method with the help of th…
We study the $γp \to p f_0$ [$f_0(980)$ and $f_0(1500)$] reaction close to threshold within an effective Lagrangian approach. The production process is described by $s$-channel nucleon pole or $t$-channel $ρ$ and $ω$ exchange. The $K^0 \bar{K}^0$ invariant mass distributions of the $γp\to f_0(980)p \to K^0 \bar{K}^0$ and $γp\to f_0(1500)p \to K^0 \bar{K}^0 p$ reactions are investigated, where the two kaons have been separated in $S$ wave decaying from $f_0(980)$ and $f_0(1500)$. It is shown that the $s$-channel process is favored for the production of $f_0(980)$, while for the $f_0(1500)$ prod…
Using the high energy color dipole approach, we study the exclusive photoproduction of lepton pairs. We use simple models for the elementary dipole-hadron scattering amplitude that captures main features of the dependence on atomic number A, on energy and on momentum transfer t. This investigation is complementary to conventional partonic description of timelike Compton scattering, which considers quark handbag diagrams at leading order in $α_s$ and simple models of the relevant generalized parton distributions (GPDs). These calculations are input in electromagnetic interactions in pp and AA c…
Photoproduction of neutral-kaon pairs is studied from the perspective of CP and CPT studies. Interference of the P and S waves, with the former due to diffractive phi production and the latter to f_0/a_0 production, is shown to enhance the CPT reach. Results are presented of Monte Carlo studies based on rates expected in future experiments.
The new $γn\to K^0Λ$ data obtained from the CLAS and MAMI collaborations are analyzed by employing an effective Lagrangian method. The constructed model can describe all available experimental data in both $γp \to K^+Λ$ and $γn\to K^0Λ$ channels, simultaneously. The background part of the model is built from the appropriate intermediate states involving the nucleon, kaon, and hyperon exchanges, whereas the resonance part is constructed from the consistent interaction Lagrangians and propagators. To check the performance of the model a detailed comparison between the calculated observables and …
We have investigated the effect of nucleon and delta resonances with spins 11/2, 13/2, and 15/2 in the kaon photoproduction process $γ+ N \to K + Y$ by using two covariant isobar models. The formalism for high-spin propagators and interaction Lagrangians were adopted from the works of Pascalutsa and Vrancx et al. The unknown parameters in the amplitudes, i.e., the coupling constants and hadronic form factor cutoffs, were obtained by fitting the calculated observables to experimental data. In the $KΛ$ channels the inclusion of $N(2600)I_{1,11}$ and $N(2700)K_{1,13}$ resonances improves the agre…
We present a study of the central exclusive production of the $K^{+} K^{-}$ pairs in proton-proton collisions at high energies. We consider diffractive mechanisms including the $K^{+} K^{-}$ continuum, the dominant scalar $f_{0}(980)$, $f_{0}(1500)$, $f_{0}(1710)$ and tensor $f_{2}(1270)$, $f'_{2}(1525)$ resonances decaying into the $K^{+} K^{-}$ pairs. We include also photoproduction mechanisms for the non-resonant (Drell-Söding) and the $ϕ(1020)$ resonance contributions. The theoretical results are calculated within the tensor-pomeron approach including both pomeron and reggeon exchanges. Pr…
The associated photoproduction of $KΛ$ from the proton in the low energy region is studied using an isobar model in which the non-resonant contributions are obtained from the non-linear sigma model with chiral SU(3) symmetry which predicts, in a natural way, the contact term with its coupling strength along with the coupling strengths of the various Born terms predicted by the non-linear sigma model. The present model is an extension of the non-linear sigma model with chiral SU(2) symmetry, used earlier to study the photo, electro, and neutrino productions of pions. In the resonance sector, th…
Impact parameter dependent dipole models are ideal tools for investigating the spatial structure of the proton. We investigate the incoherent $ep$ cross section in exclusive $J/ψ$ photoproduction as measured by HERA, and find that as $|t|$ increases, the models need several levels of the substructure of gluon density fluctuations in order to describe the measured data well. In lieu of a perturbative description, we add this substructure by hand. This substructure is modelled as hotspots within hotspots. This enables us to describe measurements for $|t|> 1$~GeV$^2$, which is necessary for descr…
We study the photoproduction of the exotic pentaquark Theta^+ baryon with the vector kaon, assuming that the quantum numbers of the Theta^+ to be J^P=3/2^(+-) and J^P=1/2^+. Scalar meson kappa(800)-exchange is also taken into account. In contrast with the gamma N -> Kbar Theta^+(3/2^(+-)) process, the large suppression from the proton target is not observed in the total cross sections. We also suggest a method to determine which meson exchange is the most dominant by analyzing the polarizations of incident photon and outgoing K^*. We find that kappa-exchange turns out to be prominent when the …
