Kaon photo- and electroproduction off a proton near the production threshold are investigated by utilizing an isobar model. The background amplitude of the model is constructed from Feynman diagrams, whereas the resonance term is calculated by using the multipole formalism. It is found that both pseudoscalar and pseudovector models can nicely describe the available photoproduction data up to W = 50 MeV above the threshold. The Lambda resonance S_{01}(1800) is found to play an important role in improving the model. In the case of double polarization observables Ox and Oz our result corroborates the finding of Sandorfi et al. Due to the large contributions of the K* and K1 vector mesons, extending the model to the case of electroproduction is almost impossible unless either special form factors that strongly suppress their contributions are introduced or all hadronic coupling constants are refitted to both photo- and electroproduction databases, simultaneously. It is also concluded that investigation of the kaon electromagnetic form factor is not recommended near the threshold region.
The charged and neutral kaon form factors are calculated as a phenomenological application of the QCD Dyson-Schwinger equations. The results are compared with the pion form factor calculated in the same framework and yield \mbox{$F_{K^\pm}(Q^2) > F_{π^\pm}(Q^2)$} on \mbox{$Q^2\in[0,3]$~GeV$^2$}; and a neutral kaon form factor that is similar in form and magnitude to the neutron charge form factor. These results are sensitive to the difference between the kaon and pion Bethe-Salpeter amplitude and the $u$- and $s$-quark propagation characteristics.
We compute the electromagnetic charged kaon form factor in the time-like region by employing a Poincaré covariant formalism of the Bethe-Salpeter equation to study quark-antiquark bound states in conjunction with the Schwinger-Dyson equation for the quark propagator. Following a recent kindred calculation of the time-like electromagnetic pion form factor, we include the most relevant intermediate composite particles permitted by their quantum numbers in the interaction kernel to allow for a decay mechanism for the resonances involved. This term augments the usual gluon mediated interaction bet…
Kaon photo- and electroproduction in all six isospin channels are investigated by means of an isobaric model. It is found that existing models can only partially describe the current experimental data. Moreover, the extracted coupling constants are mostly inconsistent with the prediction of SU(3) symmetry or the information from hadronic reactions. In order to further analyze this problem, we introduce a form factor at the hadronic vertices $KNY$ (with $Y=Λ~ \textrm{or}~ Σ$) and study its behavior qualitatively. Our result suggests the need of more accurate experiments, especially in the charg…
We analyze the electromagnetic production of K^+Lambda and K^0Lambda near their production thresholds by using isobar models. In the K^+Lambda channel we show that the model can nicely describe the available experimental data. In the K^0Lambda channel we demonstrate that the K^0 charge form factor has sizable effects on the longitudinal cross section. By extending the model up to W = 1730 MeV, we are able to observe the existence of the narrow P_{11} (J^p = 1/2^+) resonance in the kaon photoproduction process. It is found that the most convincing mass (width) of this resonance is 1650 MeV (5 M…
We calculate the processes $γp \to K^0 Σ^+ , K^+ Σ^0, K^+ Λ$ in three flavor heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory to one loop. Some low--energy constants are fixed from single baryon properties while others are estimated by means of resonance saturation. The total cross sections are comparable with the few existing data points in the threshold region. The angular dependences of the recoil polarization of the $Λ$ and $Σ^0$ show most features of the ones measured at ELSA. We also predict the isovector charge radius of the $Σ^+$, $< r^2_V >_{Σ^+} = (0.30 \pm 0.03) fm^2$.
The off-shell electromagnetic vertex of a (pseudo-) scalar particle contains, in general, two form factors F and G which depend, in addition to the squared momentum transfer, on the invariant masses associated with the initial and final legs of the vertex. Chiral perturbation theory to one loop is used to calculate the off-shell form factors of pions and kaons. The formalism of Gasser and Leutwyler, which was previously used to calculate the on-shell limit of the form factor F, is extended to accommodate the most general form for off-shell Green's functions in the pseudoscalar meson sector. We…
Two-flavor chiral expansions provide a useful perturbative framework to study hadron properties. Such expansions should exhibit marked improvement over the conventional three-flavor chiral expansion. Although one can theoretically formulate two-flavor theories for the various hyperon multiplets, the nearness of kaon thresholds can seriously undermine the effectiveness of the perturbative expansion in practice. We investigate the importance of virtual kaon thresholds on hyperon properties, specifically their masses and isovector axial charges. Using a three-flavor expansion that includes SU(3) …
A SU(2) effective lagrangian is extended to a $SU_{L}(3)\otimes SU_{R}(3)$ by including the vector and axial vector meson. With this effective lagrangian, electromagnetic form factors of charged pion and kaon are calculated. The pseudoscalar meson loops are taken into account. Good agreement with experimental data is obtained for those form factors. Decay widths of $ρ\to ππ$ and $ϕ\to K^{+}K^{-}$ are also calculated and shown to agree with experimental data very well.
Numerical calculations are performed and compared to the experimental data for the electromagnetic form factor of the kaon, which is extracted from both components of the electromagnetic current, $J^{+}$ and $J^{-}$, with a pseudo-scalar coupling of the quarks to the kaon. In the case of $J^{+}$ there is no pair term contribution in the Drell-Yan frame ($q^{+}=0$). However, for $J^{-}$, the pair term contribution is different from zero and necessary in order to preserve the rotational symmetry of the current. The free parameters are the quark masses and the regulator mass.
The anti-kaon nucleon system close to threshold is analyzed in view of the new accurate DEAR kaonic hydrogen data. The calculations are performed using chiral SU(3) effective field theory in combination with non-perturbative schemes based on coupled channels. Several variants of such approaches are compared with experimental data and the differences in the results are discussed. Coulomb and isospin breaking effects turn out to be important and are both taken into account. The pole structure of the Lambda(1405) resonance close to the anti-kaon nucleon threshold is critically examined.
The electromagnetic form factors of charged and neutral kaons are strongly constrained by their low-energy singularities, in the isovector part from two-pion intermediate states and in the isoscalar contribution in terms of $ω$ and $ϕ$ residues. The former can be predicted using the respective $ππ\to\bar K K$ partial-wave amplitude and the pion electromagnetic form factor, while the latter parameters need to be determined from electromagnetic reactions involving kaons. We present a global analysis of time- and spacelike data that implements all of these constraints. The results enable manifold…
Charge symmetry breaking (CSB) effects associated with the $u$ and $d$ quark mass difference are investigated in the quark distribution functions and spacelike electromagnetic form factors of the pion and kaon. We use a confining version of the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model, where CSB effects at the infrared scale associated with the model are driven by the dressed $u$ and $d$ quark mass ratio, which because of dynamical chiral symmetry breaking is much closer to unity than the associated current quark mass ratio. The pion and kaon are given as bound states of a dressed quark and a dressed antiqua…
The CLAS data on the photo-production of K+ off the proton are utilised to study reaction mechanism of the process in frame of the isobaric approach. The missing D13 resonance is shown to be important for successful description of the data in the whole kinematical region. Constructed models provide satisfactory predictions for the process.
The formation and excitation of hypernuclei through kaon photoproduction is reviewed. Basic features of the production process are emphasized. The possibility of extracting new information on hypernuclear structure and on the wave function of the bound $Λ$ is discussed. New results are presented for the quasifree production process $A(γ, K Λ)B$. Observables of this reaction are shown to be sensitive to the $Λ$-nucleus final state interaction.
A continuum approach to the kaon and pion bound-state problems is used to reveal their electromagnetic structure. For both systems, when used with parton distribution amplitudes appropriate to the scale of the experiment, Standard Model hard-scattering formulae are accurate to within 25% at momentum transfers $Q^2 \approx 8\,$GeV$^2$. There are measurable differences between the distribution of strange and normal matter within the kaons, e.g. the ratio of their separate contributions reaches a peak value of $1.5$ at $Q^2 \approx 6\,$GeV$^2$. Its subsequent $Q^2$-evolution is accurately describ…
The electromagnetic form factors of strange mesons and baryons are studied by means of kaon electroproduction on the nucleon. The response functions that are sensitive to the K0, Lambda, Sigma, and KK*γtransition form factors are systematically explored. The effects of these form factors on several response functions are discussed.
We summarize what we have learnt about the kaon production in nucleus-nucleus collisions in the last decade. We will address three questions: a) Is the $K^+$ production sensitive to the nuclear equation of state? b) How can it happen that at the same excess energy the same number of $K^+$ and $K^-$ are produced in heavy ion collisions although the elementary cross section in pp collisions differs by orders of magnitudes? and c) Why kaons don't flow?
The kaon electromagnetic (e.m.) form factor is reviewed considering a light-front constituent quark model. In this approach, it is discussed the relevance of the quark-antiquark pair terms for the full covariance of the e.m. current. It is also verified, by considering a QCD dynamical model, that a good agreement with experimental data can be obtained for the kaon weak decay constant once a probability of about 80% of the valence component is taken into account.
S-wave $K^-p$ scattering into various channels near threshold are analyzed in heavy-baryon chiral perturbation theory with $Λ(1405)$ introduced as an independent field. This is the approach that predicted the critical density $2<=ρ_c/ρ_0 <=3$ for negatively charged kaon condensation. We show that chiral perturbation expansion treating the $Λ(1405)$ as elementary is consistent with {\it all} threshold data including a double-charge-exchange process suppressed at leading order of chiral expansion in the absence of the $Λ(1405)$. We also discuss S-wave $K^+ p$ scattering phase shifts at low energ…
We calculated the $1s$ level shifts and widths of kaonic deuterium, corresponding to accurate results on near-threshold antikaon - deuteron scattering. The Lippmann-Schwinger eigenvalue equation with a strong $K^- - d$ and Coulomb potentials was solved. The two-body $K^- - d$ potentials reproduce the near-threshold elastic amplitudes of $K^- d$ scattering obtained from the three-body Alt-Grassberger-Sandhas equations with the coupled channels using four versions of the $\bar{K}N - πΣ$ potentials. Both new $\bar{K}N - πΣ$ potentials reproducing the very recent SIDDHARTA data on kaonic hydrogen …
We present the results of a Bayesian analysis of a Regge model for K+ Lambda photoproduction. The model is based on the exchange of K+(494) and K*+(892) trajectories in the t-channel. For different prior widths, we find decisive Bayesian evidence (Δln Z ~ 24) for a K+ Lambda photoproduction Regge model with a positive vector coupling and a negative tensor coupling constant for the K+(892) trajectory, and a rotating phase factor for both trajectories. Using the chi^2 minimization method, one could not draw this conclusion from the same dataset.
Within a hadronic transport model we study in detail contributions to kaon yields and momentum spectra from various baryon (resonance)-baryon (resonance) and $πN$ interactions in heavy-ion collisions at beam energies near the free-space kaon production threshold. It is found that the finite lifetime of baryon resonances affects significantly the shape of kaon spectra, and the high energy parts of the kaon spectra are dominated by kaons from $πN\rightarrow ΛK^{+}$ processes. $N^{*}(1440)$ resonances are found to contribute about 10\% to the kaon yield. Effects of boosting the Fermi momentum dis…
We consider strong and electromagnetic isospin violation in near-threshold pion-kaon scattering. At tree level, such effects are small for all physical channels. We work out the complete one-loop corrections to the process pi^- K^+ -> pi^0 K^0. They come out rather small. We also show that the corresponding radiative cross section is highly suppressed at threshold.
Two-flavor chiral expansions provide a useful perturbative framework to study hadron properties. Such expansions should exhibit marked improvement over the conventional three-flavor chiral expansion. Although in principle one can formulate two-flavor theories for the various hyperon multiplets, the nearness of kaon thresholds can seriously undermine the effectiveness of such two-flavor theories in practice. We investigate the importance of virtual kaon thresholds on hyperon properties, specifically their isovector axial charges and electromagnetic observables. In particular we uncover the unde…
Using the light-front kaon wave function based on a Bethe-Salpeter amplitude model for the quark-antiquark bound state, we study the Electromagnetic Form Factor (EMFF) of the kaon in nuclear medium within the framework of light-front field theory. The kaon model we adopt is well constrained by previous and recent studies to explain its properties in vacuum. The in-medium kaon EMFF is evaluated for the + component of the electromagnetic current, $J^+$, in the Breit frame. In order to consistently incorporate the constituent up and antistrange quarks of the kaon immersed in symmetric nuclear mat…
We analyse the $pp \to p ΛK$ cross section recently measured at COSY arguing that the enhancement of the production cross section at energies close to the reaction threshold should be due to the $Λp$ final state interaction. We find that the experimental $Λp$ elastic scattering data as well as the predictions from the Jülich-Bonn model are in reasonable agreement with the new results on $K^+$-meson production. We propose to study directly the final state interaction by measurements of the cross section as a function of the hyperon momentum in the $Λp$ cm system.
The electroproduction of kaons on the nucleon is shown to be an ideal tool to extract electromagnetic form factors of strange mesons and hyperons. Longitudinal n(e,e'K0)Lambda cross sections are found to be sensitive to the K0 form factor, while sensitivity to the Lambda magnetic form factor can be seen in recoil-beam double polarization observables. The KK*γtransition form factor could be extracted by measuring transverse response functions in the K-Sigma channels.
Isobar models for the electromagnetic production of kaons are discussed with emphasis on the K^+ photoproduction at very small kaon angles and K^0 photoproduction on deuteron. Distorted-wave impuls approximation calculations of the cross sections for the electroproduction of hypernuclei are presented on the case of the ^{12}B_Λproduction.
We study single kaon production off the nucleon induced by electrons (positrons) i.e. $e^-(e^+) + N \rightarrow ν_e (\bar ν_e) + \bar K (K) + N^\prime$ at low energies. The possibility of observing these processes with the high luminosity beams available at TJNAF and Mainz is discussed, taking into account that the strangeness conserving electromagnetic reactions have a higher energy threshold for $\bar K (K)$ production. The calculations are done using a microscopic model that starts from the SU(3) chiral Lagrangians, includes background terms and the resonant mechanisms associated to the low…
Kaon photoproduction on He3, gamma + He3 --> K+ + Hypertriton, is studied in the framework of the impulse approximation. Realistic He3 wave functions obtained as solutions of Faddeev equations with the Reid soft-core potential are used along with different Hypertriton wave functions. Results are compared for several elementary operator models, which can successfully describe the elementary kaon production off the proton up to a photon lab energy of k = 2.2 GeV. It is found that the corresponding cross sections are small, of the order of several nanobarns. It is also shown that the influence of…
We show that in collisions with neutron rich heavy ions at energies around the production threshold K^0 and K^+ yields might probe the isospin dependent part of the nuclearEquation of State (EoS) at high baryon densities. In particular we suggest the K^0/K^+ ratio as a promising observable. Results obtained in a fully covariant relativistic transport approach are presented for central Au+Au collisions in the beam energy range 0.8-1.8~AGeV. The focus is put on the EoS influence which goes beyond the "collision-cascade" picture. The isovector part of the in-medium interaction affects the kaon mu…
Based on the Kaplan-Nelson Lagrangian, we investigate kaon condensation in dense neutron star matter allowing for the explicit presence of hyperons. Using various models we find that the condensate threshold is sensitive to the behavior of the scalar density; the more rapidly it increases with baryon density, the lower is the threshold for condensation. The presence of hyperons, particularly the $Σ^-$, shifts the threshold for $K^-$ condensation to a higher density. In the mean field approach, with hyperons, the condensate amplitude grows sufficiently rapidly that the nucleon effective mass va…
The article reviews the physics related to kaon and antikaon production in heavy ion reactions at intermediate energies. Chiral dynamics predicts substantial modifications of the kaon properties in a dense nuclear environment. The status of the theoretical predictions as well as experimental evidences for medium effects such as repulsive/attractive mass shifts for $K^+/K^-$ are reviewed. In the vicinity of the thresholds, and even more pronounced below threshold, the production of strangeness is a highly collective process. Starting from elementary reaction channels the phenomenology of $K^+$ …
We calculate the threshold T-matrices of kaon-nucleon and antikaon-nucleon scattering to one loop order in SU(3) heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory. To that order the complex-valued isospin-1 $\bar KN$ threshold T-matrix can be successfully predicted from the isospin-0 and 1 $KN$ threshold T-matrices. As expected perturbation theory fails to explain the isospin-0 $\bar KN$ threshold T-matrix which is completely dominated by the nearby subthreshold $Λ^*(1405)$-resonance. Cancelations of large terms of second and third chiral order are observed as they seem to be typical for SU(3) baryon ch…
We present the results of a Bayesian analysis of a Regge model to describe the background contribution for K+ Lambda and K+ Sigma0 photoproduction. The model is based on the exchange of K+(494) and K*+(892) trajectories in the t-channel. We utilise the Bayesian evidence Z to determine the best model variant for each channel. The Bayesian evidence integrals were calculated using the Nested Sampling algorithm. For different prior widths, we find decisive Bayesian evidence (Δln Z ~ 24) for a K+ Lambda photoproduction Regge model with a positive vector coupling and a negative tensor coupling const…
A formalism for the electromagnetic production of hypernuclei is developed where the cross section is written as a contraction between a leptonic tensor and a hadronic tensor. The hadronic tensor is written in a model-independent way by expanding it in terms of a set of five nuclear structure functions. These structure functions are calculated by assuming that the virtual photon interacts with only one bound nucleon. We use the most recent model for the elementary current operator which gives a good description of the experimental data for the corresponding elementary process. The bound state …
We show that under a number of rather plausible assumptions QCD spectrum may contain a number of mesons which have not been predicted or observed. Such states will have the quantum numbers of two existing mesons and masses very close to the dissociation threshold into the two mesons. Moreover, at least one of the two mesonic constituents itself must be very close to its dissociation threshold. In particular, one might expect the existence of loosely bound systems of $D$ and $\D$; similarly, $K$ and $\ff$, $\bar{K}$ and $\ff$, $K$ and $å$ and $\bar{K}$ and $å$ can be bound. The mechanism for bi…
Strangeness (K$^{0,+}$, $Λ$ and $Σ^{-,0,+}$) production in heavy-ion collisions near threshold energies has been investigated within the Lanzhou quantum molecular dynamics (LQMD) transport model. The kaon (anti-kaon)-nucleon and hyperon-nucleon potentials in dense nuclear matter are implemented in the model, which are computed from the chiral perturbation approach and the relativistic mean-field model, respectively. It is found that the in-medium potentials change the structure of transverse flow, and also affect the rapidity distributions and the inclusive spectra for strangeness production. …
The electromagnetic form factor of the kaon meson is calculated in the light-cone formalism of the relativistic constituent quark model. The calculated $K^+$ form factor is consistent with almost all of the available experimental data at low energy scale, while other properties of kaon could also be interrelated in this representation with reasonable parameters. Predictions of the form factors for the charged and neutral kaons at higher energy scale are also given, and we find non-zero $K^0$ form factor at $Q^2 \ne 0$ due to the mass difference between the strange and down quarks inside $K^0$.
Isobar models for the electromagnetic production of K+ and K0 are discussed with emphasis on the K0 photoproduction off neutron. Predictions of the models for the K0 photoproduction on deuteron are compared with the recent data and some properties of the elementary amplitudes are shown.
The rainbow truncation of the quark Dyson-Schwinger equation is combined with the ladder Bethe-Salpeter equation for the meson amplitudes and the dressed quark-photon vertex in a self-consistent Poincaré-invariant study of the pion and kaon electromagnetic form factors in impulse approximation. We demonstrate explicitly that the current is conserved in this approach and that the obtained results are independent of the momentum partitioning in the Bethe-Salpeter amplitudes. With model gluon parameters previously fixed by the condensate, the pion mass and decay constant, and the kaon mass, the c…
Coupled-channel Kbar-N dynamics near threshold and its repercussions in few-body Kbar-nuclear systems are briefly reviewed, highlighting studies of a K^-pp quasibound state. In heavier nuclei, the extension of mean-field calculations to multi-Kbar nuclear and hypernuclear quasibound states is discussed. It is concluded that strangeness in finite self-bound systems is realized through hyperons, with no room for kaon condensation.
We present some details of our recent theoretical investigations on the total cross section of the reactions $pp\to pp π^0$, $pp\to pp η$ and $pp\to pΛK^+$ at threshold. Applying standard nonrelativistic perturbation theory within the framework of meson exchange models (MEC) to all of the investigated processes we observe that theory is still far--off from a quantitative understanding of the existing data, although the qualitative behaviour of the threshold cross sections can be reproduced. The often quoted $η^2$--dependence of the $pp\to pp π^0$ cross section at threshold is due to a calculat…
A microscopic approach has been employed to study the kaon and $Λ$ productions in heavy ion collisions. The productions of $K^+$ and $Λ$ have been studied within the framework of Boltzmann transport equation for various beam energies. We find a non-monotonic horn like structure for $K^+/π^+$ and $Λ/π$ when plotted against centre of mass energies ($\sqrt s_{\mathrm NN}$) with the assumption of initial partonic phase for $\sqrt s_{\mathrm NN}$ beyond a certain threshold. However, the ratio $K^+/π^+$ shows a monotonic nature when a hadronic initial state is considered for all $\sqrt s_{\mathrm NN…
Associated strangeness production close to threshold is a particularly clean example of how energy is converted into hadronic matter. Final results from the completed experiments of the PS185 collaboration at LEAR/CERN, using the antiproton-proton interaction to produce antihyperon-hyperon pairs, demonstrate that such studies form a powerful tool. First results from the ongoing investigations of the COSY-11 collaboration at COSY-J"ulich, measuring the strangeness dissociation into both hyperon-kaon and kaon-kaon pairs from proton-proton scattering, are presented and plans for further investiga…
We study the effects of $N^{*}(1440)$ resonance on the production of kaons, antikaons and antiprotons in heavy-ion collisions at subthreshold energies. Using free-space widths for the $Δ(1232)$ and the $N^{*}(1440)$ resonance and free-space thresholds for particle production, it is found that the $N^{*}$-baryon interactions contribute about 10\%, 25\% and 80\% to the yield of kaon, antikaon and antiproton, respectively. Doubling the widths of resonances due to possible medium effects, both the total and the $N^{*}$ induced antiproton yield decrease by about a factor of 3. Using a reduced antip…
A dynamical coupled-channel formalism for processes $πN \to KY$ and $γN \to KY$ is presented which provides a comprehensive investigation of recent data on the $γp \to K^+ Λ$ reaction. The non-resonant interactions within the subspace $KY\oplusπN$ are derived from effective Lagrangians, using a unitary transformation method. The calculations of photoproduction amplitudes are simplified by casting the coupled-channel equations into a form such that the empirical $γN \to πN$ amplitudes are input and only the parameters associated with the $KY$ channel are determined by performing $χ^2$-fits to a…
We present a gauge invariant approach to photoproduction of mesons on nucleons within a chiral unitary framework. The interaction kernel for meson-baryon scattering is derived from the chiral effective Lagrangian and iterated in a Bethe-Salpeter equation. Within the leading order approximation to the interaction kernel, data on kaon photoproduction from SAPHIR, CLAS and CBELSA/TAPS are analyzed in the threshold region. The importance of gauge invariance and the precision of various approximations in the interaction kernel utilized in earlier works are discussed.
We study the mechanism of the associated Lambda-kaon and Sigma-kaon production in nucleon-nucleon collisions over an extended range of near threshold beam energies within an effective Lagrangian model, to understand of the new data on pp --> p Lambda K+ and pp --> p Sigma0 K+ reactions published recently by the COSY-11 collaboration. In this theory, the hyperon production proceeds via the excitation of N*(1650), N*(1710), and N*(1720) baryonic resonances. Interplay of the relative contributions of various resonances to the cross sections, is discussed as a function of the beam energy over a la…
The energy dependence of the total kaon production cross sections in baryon baryon ($N$ and $Δ$) collisions are studied in the resonance model, which is a relativistic, tree-level treatment. This study is the first attempt to complete a systematic, consistent investigation of the elementary kaon production reactions for both the pion baryon and baryon baryon reactions. Our model suggests that the magnitudes of the isospin-averaged total cross sections for the $N N \to N Y K$ and $ΔN \to N Y K$ ($Y = Λ$ or $Σ$) reactions are almost equal at energies up to about 200 MeV above threshold. However,…
In a one-pion plus one-kaon exchange model, we calculate the kaon production cross sections in nucleon-nucleon, nucleon-delta and delta-delta interactions. We find that this model describes reasonably well the experimental data on kaon production in the proton-proton interaction. Near the kaon production threshold, the cross section obtained from this model is smaller than that from the linear parameterization of Randrup and Ko. For kaon production cross sections from the nucleon-delta and delta-delta interactions, the cross sections are singular in free space, so we calculate them in a nuclea…
In the model of low-energy bar-K N interactions near threshold (EPJA 21, 11 (2004); 25, 79 (2005)) we calculate isospin-breaking corrections to the energy level displacement of the ground state of kaonic hydrogen, investigated by Meissner, Raha and Rusetsky (EPJC 35, 349 (2004)) within the non-relativistic effective Lagrangian approach based on ChPT by Gasser and Leutwyler. Our results agree well with those by Meißner et al.. In addition we calculate the dispersive corrections, caused by the transition K^-p -> bar-K^0n ->K^-p with the bar-K^0n pair on-mass shell. We show also how hypothesis on…
We study the in-medium effects in strangeness production in heavy-ion collisions at (sub-)\-threshold energies of 1 - 2 A GeV based on the microscopic Parton-Hadron-String Dynamics (PHSD) transport approach. The in-medium modifications of the antikaon $(\bar K = K^-, \bar K^0)$ properties are described via the self-consistent coupled-channel unitarized scheme based on a SU(3) chiral Lagrangian which incorporates explicitly the $s-$ and $p-$ waves of the kaon-nucleon interaction. This scheme provides the antikaon potential, spectral functions and reaction cross sections as well as their depende…
We consider $K^-$ nucleon elastic and inelastic scattering in isospin symmetric nuclear matter. It is found that the proper description of the $Λ(1405)$ resonance structure in nuclear matter requires a self-consistent approach. Then the $Λ(1405) $ resonance mass remains basically unchanged, however, the resonance acquires an increased decay width as nuclear matter is compressed. The elastic and inelastic scattering amplitudes show important medium modifications close to the kaon nucleon threshold. We also construct the $K^-$-nuclear optical potential appropriate for $K^-$ atoms. Our microscopi…
