We analyze the dynamics of various kinds of correlations present between two initially entangled independent qubits, each one subject to a local phase noisy laser. We give explicit expressions of the relevant quantifiers of correlations for the general case of single-qubit unital evolution, which includes the case of a phase noisy laser. Although the light field is treated as classical, we find that this model can describe revivals of quantum correlations. Two different dynamical regimes of decay of correlations occur, a Markovian one (exponential decay) and a non-Markovian one (oscillatory decay with revivals) depending on the values of system parameters. In particular, in the non-Markovian regime, quantum correlations quantified by quantum discord show an oscillatory decay faster than that of classical correlations. Moreover, there are time regions where nonzero discord is present while entanglement is zero.
The laser cooling of atoms is a result of the combined effect of doppler shift, light shift and polarization gradient. These are basically undesirable phenomena. However, they combine gainfully in realizing laser cooling and trapping of the atoms. In this paper we discuss the laser cooling of atoms in the presence of the squeezed light with the decay of atomic dipole moment into noisy quadrature. We show that the higher decay rate of the atomic dipole moment into the noisy quadrature, which is also an undesirable effect, may contribute in realizing larger cooling force vis-a-vis normal laser l…
Existing experimental implementations of continuous-variable quantum key distribution require shot-noise limited operation, achieved with shot-noise limited lasers. However, loosening this requirement on the laser source would allow for cheaper, potentially integrated systems. Here, we implement a theoretically proposed prepare-and-measure continuous-variable protocol and experimentally demonstrate the robustness of it against preparation noise stemming for instance from technical laser noise. Provided that direct reconciliation techniques are used in the post-processing we show that for small…
Quantum correlations as the resource for quantum communication can be distributed over long distances by quantum repeaters. In this Letter, we introduce the notion of a noisy quantum repeater, and examine its role in quantum communication. Quantum correlations shared through noisy quantum repeaters are then characterized and their secrecy properties are studied. Remarkably, noisy quantum repeaters naturally introduce private states in the key distillation scenario, and consequently key distillation protocols are demonstrated to be more tolerant.
We study quantum correlation of Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) and W states under various noisy channels using measurement-induced disturbance approach and its optimized version. Although these inequivalent maximal entangled states represent the same quantum correlation in the absence of noise, it is shown that the W state is more robust than the GHZ state through most noisy channels. Also, using measurement-induced disturbance measure, we obtain the analytical relations for the time evolution of quantum correlations in terms of the noisy parameter $κ$ and remove its overestimating quantum …
A scheme to evaluate computation fidelities within the one-way model is developed and explored to understand the role of correlations in the quality of noisy quantum computations. The formalism is promptly applied to many computation instances, and unveils that a higher amount of entanglement in the noisy resource state does not necessarily imply a better computation.
We study the quantum correlation dynamics of two relativistic particles which is transmitted through one of the Pauli channels $ σ_{x}, σ_{y},$ and $σ_{z}$. We compare sudden death and robustness of entanglement and geometric discord and quantum discord of two relativistic particles under noisy Pauli channels. we find out geometric discord and quantum discord may be more robust than entanglement against decoherence.
The correlation dynamics is investigated for various bi-partitions of a composite system consisting of two qubits, and two independent and non-identical noisy environments. The two qubits have no direct interaction with each other and locally interact with their environments. Classical and quantum correlations including entanglement are initially prepared only between the two qubits. We find that, contrary to the identical noisy environment case, the entanglement and quantum correlation transfer directions can be controlled by combining different noisy environments. The amplitude damping envir…
Linear n-local networks are compatible with quantum repeaters based entanglement distribution protocols. Different sources of imperfections such as error in entanglement generation, communication over noisy quantum channels and imperfections in measurements result in decay of quantumness across such networks. From practical perspectives it becomes imperative to analyze non classicality of quantum network correlations in presence of different types of noise. Present discussion provides a formal characterization of non n-local feature of quantum correlations in noisy network scenario. In this co…
The theoretically predicted correlation of laser phase fluctuations in Lambda-type interaction schemes is experimentally demonstrated. We show, that the mechanism of correlation in a Lambda scheme is restricted to high frequency noise components, whereas in a double-$Λ$ scheme, due to the laser phase locking in closed-loop interaction, it extends to all noise frequencies. In this case the correlation is weakly sensitive to coherence losses. Thus the double-Lambda scheme can be used to correlate e.m. fields with carrier frequency differences beyond the GHz regime.
In this manuscript, the behavior of the Wigner function of accelerated and non-accelerated two qubit system passing through different noisy channels is discussed. The decoherence of the initial quantum correlation due to the noisy channels and the acceleration process is investigated by means of Wigner function. The negative (positive) behavior of the Wigner function predicts the gain of the quantum (classical) correlations. Based on the upper and lower bounds of the Wigner function, the entangled initial state loses its quantum correlation due the acceleration process and the strengths of the…
We investigate the resonant quantum dynamics of a laser-pumped real or artificial two-level single-atom system embedded in a leaking microcavity. We found that for stronger laser-atom-cavity couplings the generated microcavity photons exhibit larger steady-state correlations. In particular, the second- and third-order photon correlation functions are greater than the corresponding ones obtained for an incoherent light source, respectively. Furthermore, the emitted microcavity photon flux is enhanced in comparison to weaker coupling cases.
To characterize the statistics and indistinguishability of a source, it is common to measure the correlation functions of the emitted field using various interferometers. Here, we present a theoretical framework for the computation of the correlation functions of a two-level system that is resonantly driven by a realistic noisy cw excitation laser. Analytic expressions of the first and second-order auto-correlation functions are obtained where the various contributions of the noisy excitation source are correctly taken into account. We predict that, even in the low power regime, the noise sour…
Composite quantum systems exhibit non-local correlations. These counter intuitive correlations form a resource for quantum information processing and quantum computation. In our previous work on two qubit maximally entangled mixed states, we observed that entangled states, states that can be used for quantum teleportaion, states that violate Bell-CHSH inequality and states that do not admit local hidden variable description is the hierarchy in terms of the order of nonlocal correlations. In order to establish this hierarchy, in the present work, we investigate the effect of noise on two quibt …
We report experimental generation of a noisy entangled four-photon state that exhibits a separation between the secure key contents and distillable entanglement, a hallmark feature of the recently established quantum theory of private states. The privacy analysis, based on the full tomographic reconstruction of the prepared state, is utilized in a proof-of-principle key generation. The inferiority of distillation-based strategies to extract the key is exposed by an implementation of an entanglement distillation protocol for the produced state.
High degrees of intensity correlation between two independent lasers were observed after propagation through a rubidium vapor cell in which they generate Electromagnetically Induced Transparency (EIT). As the optical field intensities are increased, the correlation changes sign (becoming anti-correlation). The experiment was performed in a room temperature rubidium cell, using two diode lasers tuned to the $^{85}$Rb $D_2$ line ($λ= 780$nm). The cross-correlation spectral function for the pump and probe fields is numerically obtained by modeling the temporal dynamics of both field phases as dif…
Quantum photon-number fluctuation and correlation of bound soliton pairs in mode-locked fiber lasers are studied based on the complex Ginzburg-Landau equation model. We find that, depending on their phase difference, the total photon-number noise of the bound soliton pair can be larger or smaller than that of a single soliton and the two solitons in the soliton pairs are with positive or negative photon-number correlation, correspondingly. It is predicted for the first time that out-of-phase soliton pairs can exhibit less noises due to negative correlation.
We present methods and results of shot-by-shot correlation of noisy measurements to extract entangled state and process tomography in a superconducting qubit architecture. We show that averaging continuous values, rather than counting discrete thresholded values, is a valid tomographic strategy and is in fact the better choice in the low signal-to-noise regime. We show that the effort to measure $N$-body correlations from individual measurements scales exponentially with $N$, but with sufficient signal-to-noise the approach remains viable for few-body correlations. We provide a new protocol to…
Temporal correlations of radiation intensities of a multimode Fabry-Perot semiconductor laser are investigated. Strong intensity correlations with a fixed phase shift between different longitudinal modes of the laser are revealed. The second g^(2) and third g^(3) order intensity correlation functions are studied to clear the character of the intermodal coupling.
We study the effects of arbitrary laser pulse excitations on quantum correlation, entanglement and the role of quantum noise. The transient quantities are computed exactly using a method that provides exact solutions of the Langevin field operators for photon pairs produced by a double Raman atom driven by laser pulses. Short pulses with appropriate chirping, delay and/or detuning can generate broadband photon pairs and yield results that provide insights on how to generate very large nonclassical correlation. We find that short pulses are not favorable for entanglement. The quantity was previ…
Here we demonstrate that photocurrent noise reduction below the standard quantum limit and modal anticorrelation can arise in two mode coupled two-VECSEL system with common pump. This effect occurs due to correlated loss of laser modes. It is possible to suppress noise below the standard quantum limit even for Poissonian coherent pumping, whereas the regularity of the pump can be harmful for non-classicality.
The Gaussian states are essential ingredients in many tasks of quantum information processing. The presence of the noises imposes limitations on achieving these quantum protocols. Therefore, examining the evolution of quantum entanglement and quantum correlations under the coherence of Gaussian states in noisy channels is of paramount importance. In this paper, we propose and analyze a scheme that aims to specify and examine the dynamic evolution of the quantum correlations in two-modes Gaussian states submitted to the influence of the Gaussian thermal environment. We describe the time evoluti…
A tripartite quantum network is said to be bilocal if two independent sources produce a pair of bipartite entangled states. Quantum non-bilocal correlation emerges when the central party which possesses two particles from two different sources performs Bell-state measurement on them and nonlocality is generated between the other two uncorrelated systems in this entanglement-swapping protocol. The interaction of such systems with the environment reduces quantum non-bilocal correlations. Here we show that the diminishing effect modelled by the amplitude damping channel can be slowed down by empl…
Quantum correlations in pairs and arrays (trains) of bound solitons modeled by the complex Ginzburg-Landau equation (CGLE) are calculated numerically, on the basis of linearized equations for quantum fluctuations. We find strong correlations between the bound solitons, even though the system is dissipative. Some degree of the correlation between the photon-number fluctuations of stable bound soliton pairs and trains is attained and saturates after passing a certain distance. The saturation of the photon-number correlations is explained by the action of non- conservative terms in the CGLE. Phot…
We investigate quantum synchronization theoretically in a system consisting of two cold ions in microtraps. The ions' motion is damped by a standing-wave laser whilst also being driven by a blue-detuned laser which results in self-oscillation. Working in a non-classical regime, where these oscillations contain only a few phonons and have a sub-Poissonian number variance, we explore how synchronization occurs when the two ions are weakly coupled using a probability distribution for the relative phase. We show that strong correlations arise between the spin and vibrational degrees of freedom wit…
We show that the full statistics of the two detectors outputs in a balanced homodyne detection setup involving a local oscillator in an ideal coherent state is experimentally accessible despite the excess noise existing in actual laser sources. This possibility is illustrated using phase randomized coherent states signals from which the statistics of Fock states can accurately be obtained. The experimental verification of the recently predicted [Kühn and Vogel, Phys. Rev. A, \textbf{98}, 013832 (2018)] two-detector correlation probability for Fock states is presented for states $\vert 1 \rangl…
In this work, we present new experimental evidence of a nonclassical behavior of a multimode Fabry-Perot (FP) semiconductor laser by the measurements of intensity correlation functions. Because of the multimode quantum state occurrence, instead of expected correlations between the intensities of the laser modes (a semiclassical theory), their anticorrelations were revealed.
In a no-signaling world, the outputs of a nonlocal box cannot be completely predetermined, a feature that is exploited in many quantum information protocols exploiting non-locality, such as device-independent randomness generation and quantum key distribution. This relation between non-locality and randomness can be formally quantified through the min-entropy, a measure of the unpredictability of the outputs that holds conditioned on the knowledge of any adversary that is limited only by the no-signaling principle. This quantity can easily be computed for the noisy Popescu-Rohrlich (PR) box, t…
Partial teleportation of entanglement is to teleport one particle of an entangled pair through a quantum channel. This is conceptually equivalent to quantum swapping. We consider the partial teleportation of entanglement in the noisy environment, employing the Werner-state representation of the noisy channel for the simplicity of calculation. To have the insight of the many-body teleportation, we introduce the measure of correlation information and study the transfer of the correlation information and entanglement. We find that the fidelity gets smaller as the initial-state is entangled more f…
We investigate the effect of dynamic electron correlation on high-harmonic generation in helium atoms using intense visible light (λ=390nm). Two complementary approaches are used which account for correlation in an approximate manner: time-dependent density-functional theory and a single-active-electron model. For intensities I~10^{14} W/cm^2, the theories are in remarkably good agreement for the dynamic polarization and harmonic spectrum. This is attributed to a low-frequency collective mode together with a high-frequency single-electron response due to the nuclear singularity, both of which …
We study nonclassical correlations in propagating two-mode squeezed microwave states in the presence of noise. We focus on two different types of correlations, namely, quantum entanglement and quantum discord. Quantum discord has various intriguing fundamental properties which require experimental verification, such as the asymptotic robustness to environmental noise. Here, we experimentally investigate quantum discord in propagating two-mode squeezed microwave states generated via superconducting Josephson parametric amplifiers. By exploiting an asymmetric noise injection into these entangled…

The interaction with the environment is one of the main obstacles to be circumvented in practical implementations of quantum information tasks. The use of local unitaries, while not changing the initial entanglement present in a given state, can enormously change its dynamics through a noisy channel, and consequently its ability to be used as a resource. This way, local unitaries provide an easy and accessible way to enhance quantum correlations in a variety of different experimental platforms. Given an initial entangled state and a certain noisy channel, what are the local unitaries providing…
Geometric description of quantum correlations are favored for their distinct physical significance. Geometric discord based on the trace distance and the Bures distance are shown to be well-defined quantum correlation measures. Here, we examine their particular dynamical behaviors under independent as well as common structured reservoirs, and reveal their robustness against decoherence. We showed that the two well-defined geometric discord may be preserved well, or even be improved and generated by the noisy process of the common reservoir. Moreover, we also provided a strategy for long-time p…
We address the problem of optically controlling and quantifying the dissipative dynamics of quantum and classical correlations in a set-up of individual quantum emitters under external laser excitation. We show that both types of correlations, the former measured by the quantum discord, are present in the system's evolution even though the emitters may exhibit an early stage disentanglement. In the absence of external laser pumping,we demonstrate analytically, for a set of suitable initial states, that there is an entropy bound for which quantum discord and entanglement of the emitters are alw…
The maximal evolution speed of a quantum system can be represented by quantum speed limit time (QSLT).We investigate QSLT of a two-qubit system passing through a correlated channel (amplitude damping, phase damping, and depolarizing).By adjusting the correlation parameter of channel and the initial entanglement,a method to accelerate the evolution speed of the system for some specific channels is proposed. It is shown that, in amplitude damping channel and depolarizing channel,QSLT may be shortened in some cases by increasing correlation parameter of the channel and initial entanglement, which …
Individual trapped atomic qubits represent one of the most promising technologies to scale quantum computers, owing to their negligible idle errors and the ability to implement a full set of reconfigurable gate operations via focused optical fields. However, the fidelity of quantum gate operations can be limited by weak confinement of the atoms transverse to the laser. We present measurements of this effect by performing individually-addressed entangling gates in chains of up to 25 trapped atomic ions that are weakly confined along the chain axis. We present a model that accurately describes t…
We describe a hybrid laser-microwave scheme to implement two-qubit geometric phase gates in crystals of trapped ions. The proposed gates can attain errors below the fault-tolerance threshold in the presence of thermal, dephasing, laser-phase, and microwave-intensity noise. Moreover, our proposal is technically less demanding than previous schemes, since it does not require a laser arrangement with interferometric stability. The laser beams are tuned close to a single vibrational sideband to entangle the qubits, while strong microwave drivings provide the geometric character to the gate, and th…
We have studied the intensity correlations between two orthogonally linearly polarized components of a laser field propagating through a resonant atomic medium. These experiments have been performed in a Rubidium atomic vapor. We observe that the correlations between the orthogonally polarized components of the laser beam are maximal in the absence of a magnetic field. The magnitude of the correlations depends on the applied magnetic field, and the magnitude first decreases and then increases with increasing magnetic field. Minimal correlations and maximal rotation angles are observed at the s…
We consider the effects of the trap environment on the atomic and optical quantum statistical properties and on the atom-photon correlations in the Collective Atomic-Recoil Laser. Atomic and optical statistical properties, as well as the atom-photon correlations are dependent on the optical field intensity and phase. In particular, depending on the values of the optical field intensity and phase, the fields statistics varies from coherent to superchaotic.
We propose a new technique for comparing two Raman active samples. The method employs optical interference of the signals generated via coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering (CARS) of broadband laser pulses with noisy spectra. It does not require spectrally resolved detection, and no prior knowledge about either the Raman spectrum of the samples, or the spectrum of the incident light is needed. We study the proposed method theoretically, and demonstrate it in a proof-of-principle experiment on Toluene and ortho-Xylene samples.
We consider two two-level atoms fixed at different positions, driven by a monochromatic laser field, and interacting collectively with the vacuum electromagnetic field. A Born-Markov-secular master equation is used to describe the dynamics of the two atoms and their steady-state is obtained analytically for two configurations, one in which the atoms are in equivalent positions and another in which they are not. The steady-state populations of the energy levels of the free atoms, entanglement, quantum discord and degree of mixed-ness are calculated analytically as a function of the laser field …
Here we show that noisy coupling can lead to diffusive lossless energy transfer between individual quantum systems retaining a quantum character leading to entangled stationary states. Coherence might flow diffusively while being summarily preserved even when energy exchange is absent. Diffusive dynamics persists even in the case when additional noise suppresses all the unitary excitation exchange: arbitrarily strong local dephasing, while destroying quantum correlations, is not affecting energy transfer.
By using the quantum Yang-Baxterization approach, we investigate the dynamics of quantum entanglement under the actions of different Hamiltonians on the different two-qubit input states and analyze the effects of the Yang-Baxter operations on it. During any quantum process that takes place in a noisy environment, quantum correlations display behavior that does not increase. We point out that for two-qubit systems subject to actions of different Yang-Baxter operations the loss of correlations can be mitigated by the appropriate choice of the initial states and the Yang-Baxterization process. We…
We analyze the influence of classical Gaussian noise on Landau-Zener transitions during a two-level crossing in a time-dependent regular external field. Transition probabilities and coherence factors become random due to the noise. We calculate their two-time correlation functions, which describe the response of this two-level system to a weak external pulse signal. The spectrum and intensity of the magnetic response are derived. Although fluctuations are of the same order of magnitude as averages, the results is obtained in an analytic form.
Single photon emitters (SPEs) are often identified with a Hanbury Brown and Twiss intensity interferometer (HBTII) consisting of a 50:50 beamsplitter and two time-correlated single photon counters. For an SPE, the cross-correlation of photon arrival time between the two detectors, $g^{(2)}(τ)$, shows a hallmark dip to zero at $τ=0$. One common heuristic for identifying SPEs is by measuring a system to have $g^{(2)}(0)<1/2$. Here in, we use stochastic methods to simulate the case of a SPE observed with non-ideal detectors and optics. We show that identification of SPEs is thwarted when the dete…
The second order photon correlation g^(2)(tau) of a chaotic optical-feedback semiconductor laser is precisely measured using a Hanbury Brown-Twiss interferometer. The accurate g^(2)(tau) with non-zero delay time is obtained experimentally from the photon pair time interval distribution through a ninth-order self-convolution correction. The experimental results agree well with the theoretical analysis. The relative error of g^(2)(tau) is no more than 0.005 within 50 ns delay time. The bunching effect and coherence time of the chaotic laser are measured via the precise photon correlation techniq…
We introduce an open-source solver for the Lindblad master equation, based on matrix product states and matrix product operators. Using this solver we study the dynamics of tens of interacting qubits with different connectivities, focusing on a problem where an edge qubit is being continuously driven on resonance, which is a fundamental operation in quantum devices. Because of the driving, induced excitations propagate through the qubits until the system reaches a steady state due to the incoherent terms. We find that with alternating-frequency qubits whose interactions with their off-resonant…
We demonstrate time-resolved counting of single atoms extracted from a weakly interacting Bose-Einstein condensate of $^{87}$Rb atoms. The atoms are detected with a high-finesse optical cavity and single atom transits are identified. An atom laser beam is formed by continuously output coupling atoms from the Bose-Einstein condensate. We investigate the full counting statistics of this beam and measure its second order correlation function $g^{(2)}(τ)$ in a Hanbury Brown and Twiss type experiment. For the monoenergetic atom laser we observe a constant correlation function $g^{(2)}(τ)=1.00\pm0.0…
