We introduce several families of filtrations on the space of vector bundles over a smooth projective variety. These filtrations are defined using the large k asymptotics of the kernel of the Dolbeault Dirac operator on a bundle twisted by the kth power of an ample line bundle. The filtrations measure the failure of the bundle to admit a holomorphic structure. We study compatibility under the Chern isomorphism of these filtrations with the Hodge filtration on cohomology.
We define the notion of a loop Hodge structure -- an infinite dimensional generalization of a Hodge structure -- and prove that a suitable variation of this object over a complex manifold is equivalent to the datum of a harmonic bundle. Hence one can study harmonic bundles using classical tools of Hodge theory, especially the existence of a period map (with values in an infinite dimensional period domain). Among other applications, we prove an integrality result for the Hitchin energy class of a harmonic bundle.
We prove the Hodge symmetry type result on the Dolbeault cohomology of Oeljeklaus-Toma manifolds with values in the direct sum of holomorphic line bundles. Consequently, we show the vanishing and non-vanishing of Dolbeault cohomology of Oeljeklaus-Toma manifolds with values in holomorphic line bundles.
We study an algebraic inequality for nilpotent matrices and show some interesting geometric applications: (i) obtaining topological information for nilpotent polystable Higgs bundles over a compact Riemann surface; (ii) obtaining a sharp upper bound of the holomorphic sectional curvatures of the period domain and the Hodge metric on the Calabi-Yau moduli.

We prove a GAGA-style result for toric vector bundles with smooth base and give an algebraic construction of the Frölicher approximating vector bundle that has recently been introduced by Dan Popovici using analytic techniques.
The Hodge Conjecture is equivalent to a statement about conditions under which a complex vector bundle on a smooth complex projective variety admits a holomorphic structure. I advertise a class of abelian four-folds due to Mumford where this approach could be tested. I construct explicit smooth vector bundles - which can in fact be constructed in terms of of smooth line bundles - whose Chern characters are given Hodge classes. An instanton connection on these vector bundles would endow them with a holomorphic structure and thus prove that these classes are algebraic. I use complex multiplicati…
We provide a formula describing the G-module structure of the Hurwitz-Hodge bundle for admissible G-covers in terms of the Hodge bundle of the base curve, and more generally, for describing the G-module structure of the push-forward to the base of any sheaf on a family of admissible G-covers. This formula can be interpreted as a representation-ring-valued relative Riemann-Hurwitz formula for families of admissible G-covers.
We show the vanishing of the log-term in the Fefferman expansion of the Bergman kernel of the disk bundle over a compact simply-connected homogeneous Kaehler--Einstein manifold of classical type.
We study the moduli space M(G,A) of flat G-bundles on an Abelian surface A, where G is a compact, simple, simply connected, connected Lie group. Equivalently, M(G,A) is the (coarse) moduli space of s-equivalence classes of holomorphic semi-stable G_C-bundles with trivial Chern classes where G_C is the complexified group. M(G,A) has the structure of a hyperkahler orbifold. We show that when G is Sp(n) or SU(n), M(G,A) has a natural hyperkahler desingularization which we exhibit as a moduli space of G_C-bundles with an altered stability condition. In this way, we obtain the two known families of…
In this paper we explain how non-abelian Hodge theory allows one to compute the $L^2$ cohomology or middle perversity higher direct images of harmonic bundles and twistor D-modules in a purely algebraic manner. Our main result is a new algebraic description for the fiberwise $L^2$ cohomology of a tame harmonic bundle or the corre- sponding flat bundle or tame polystable parabolic Higgs bundle. Specifically we give a formula for the Dolbeault version of the $L^2$ pushforward in terms of a modification of the Dolbeault complex of a Higgs bundle which takes into account the monodromy weight filtr…
We consider degenerations of complex projective Calabi--Yau varieties and study the singularities of $L^2$, Quillen and BCOV metrics on Hodge and determinant bundles. The dominant and subdominant terms in the expansions of the metrics close to non-smooth fibers are shown to be related to well-known topological invariants of singularities, such as limit Hodge structures, vanishing cycles and log-canonical thresholds. We also describe corresponding invariants for more general degenerating families in the case of the Quillen metric.
It is well known that positivity properties of the curvature of a vector bundle have implications on the algebro-geometric properties of the bundle, such as numerical positivity, vanishing of higher cohomology leading to existence of global sections etc. It is also well known that bundles arising in Hodge theory tend to have positivity properties. From these considerations several issues arise: (i) In general for bundles that are semi-positive but not strictly positive; what further natural conditions lead to the existence of sections of its symmetric powers? (ii) In Hodge theory the Hodge met…
We generalise Simpson's nonabelian Hodge correspondence to the context of projective varieties with klt singularities. The proof relies on a descent theorem for numerically flat vector bundles along birational morphisms. In its simplest form, this theorem asserts that given any klt variety X and any resolution of singularities, then any vector bundle on the resolution that appears to come from X numerically, does indeed come from X. Furthermore and of independent interest, a new restriction theorem for semistable Higgs sheaves defined on the smooth locus of a normal, projective variety is esta…
We study rank $1$ flat bundles over solvmanifolds whose cohomologies are non-trivial. By using Hodge theoretical properties for all topologically trivial rank $1$ flat bundles, we represent the structure theorem of Kähler solvmanifolds as extensions of Hasegawa's result and Benson-Gordon's result for nilmanifolds.
The non-abelian Hodge correspondence identifies complex variations of Hodge structures with certain Higgs bundles. In this work we analyze this relationship, and some of its ramifications, when the variations of Hodge structures are determined by a (complete) one-dimensional family of compact Calabi-Yau manifolds. This setup enables us to apply techniques from mirror symmetry. For example, the corresponding Higgs bundles extend to parabolic Higgs bundles to the compactification of the base of the families. We determine the parabolic degrees of the underlying parabolic bundles in terms of the e…
We investigate properties of the Hodge metric of a mixed period domain. In particular, we calculate its curvature and the curvature of the Hodge bundles. We also consider when the pull back metric via a period map is Kähler. Several applications in cases of geometric interest are given, such as for normal functions and biextension bundles.
We define the C^*-action on moduli spaces of reductive representations of fundamental groups of quasi-compact Kaehler manifolds by solving Hermitian-Yang-Mills equation. As applications in algebraic geometry we show a non-abelian Hodge (p,q)-type theorem for families of quasi-projective manifolds. We also prove that any discrete sub group of a Lie group of rank >1 that is not of Hodge type can't be the fundamental group of a quasi-compact Kaehler manifold.
We shall construct a natural Higgs bundle structure on the complexified Kähler cone of a compact Kähler manifold, which can be seen as an analogy of the classical Higgs bundle structure associated to a variation of Hodge structure. In the proof of the flat-ness of our Higgs bundle, we find a commutator identity that can be used to decode the variational properties of the polarized Hodge-Lefschetz module structure on the fibres of our Higgs bundle. Thus we can use a generalized version of Lu's Hodge metric to study the curvature property of the complexified Kähler cone. In particular, it implie…
Let $E$ be a holomorphic vector bundle over a compact Kähler manifold $(X,ω)$ with negative sectional curvature $sec\leq -K<0$, $Δ_{E}$ be the Chern connection on $E$. In this article we show that if $C:=|[Λ,iΘ(E)]|\leq c_{n}K$, then $(X,E)$ satisfy a family of Chern number inequalities. The main idea in our proof is study the $L^{2}$ $\bar{\partial}_{\tilde{E}}$-harmonic forms on lifting bundle $\tilde{E}$ over the universal covering space $\tilde{X}$. We also observe that there is a closely relationship between the eigenvalue of the Laplace-Beltrami operator $Δ_{\bar{\partial}_{\tilde{E}}}$ …
T. Mochizuki constructs a theory of variations of wild Hodge structure for which the underlying flat connection can have irregular singularities at infinity. He extends in this way the correspondence of Corlette and Simpson between irreducible flat bundles and stables Higgs bundles, taking into account objects with irregular singularities. As an application, he proves a conjecture of Kashiwara concerning a generalization of the Hard Lefschetz theorem when the coefficients are the de Rham complex of a simple holonomic D-module on smooth complex projective variety.
We compute the Szego kernel of the unit circle bundle of a negative line bundle dual to a regular quantum line bundle over a compact Kaehler manifold. As a corollary we provide an infinite family of smoothly bounded strictly pseudoconvex domains on complex manifolds (disk bundles over homogeneous Hodge manifolds) for which the log-terms in the Fefferman expansion of the Szego kernel vanish and which are not locally CR-equivalent to the sphere. We also give a proof of the fact that, for homogeneous Hodge manifolds, the existence of a locally spherical CR-structure on the unit circle bundle alon…
We introduce real structures on $L$-twisted Higgs pairs over a compact Riemann surface equipped with an anti-holomorphic involution, and prove a Hitchin--Kobayashi correspondence for them. Real $G$-Higgs bundles, where $G$ is a real form of a connected semisimple complex affine algebraic group $G^{\mathbb{C}}$, constitute a particular class of examples of these pairs. The real structure in this case involves a conjugation of $G^{\mathbb{C}}$ commuting with the one defining the real form $G$. We establish a homeomorphism between the moduli space of real $G$-Higgs bundles and the moduli space of…
Let $f:X\to Y$ be a morphism of complex manifolds. Suppose that $X$ is a Kähler manifold. Let $(\mathcal{T},\mathcal{S})$ be a regular polarized pure twistor $\mathcal{D}$-module of weight $w$ on $X$ whose support is proper over $Y$. We prove the Hard Lefschetz Theorem for the push-forward of $(\mathcal{T},\mathcal{S})$ by $f$. As one of the key steps, we obtain the twistor version of a theorem of Kashiwara and Kawai about the Hodge structure on the intersection complex of polarized variation of Hodge structure.
We calculate the second coefficient of the asymptotic expansion of the Bergman kernel of the Hodge-Dolbeault operator associated to high powers of a Hermitian line bundle with non-degenerate curvature, using the method of formal power series developed by Ma and Marinescu.
We construct new examples of manifolds with cyclic-parallel Ricci tensor, so called A-manifolds, on a r-torus bundle over a product of almost Hodge A-manifolds.
We consider a family of compact, oriented and connected Riemannian manifolds shrinking to a metric graph and describe the asymptotic behaviour of the eigenvalues of the Hodge Laplacian. We apply our results to produce manifolds with spectral gaps of arbitrarily large size in the spectrum of the Hodge Laplacian.
In this paper, we study the existence of Poisson metrics on flat vector bundles over noncompact Riemannian manifolds and discuss related consequence, specially on the applications in Higgs bundles, towards generalizing Corlette-Donaldson-Hitchin-Simpson's nonabelian Hodge correspondence to noncompact Kähler manifolds setting.
Here we survey questions and results on the Hodge theory of hyperkaehler quotients, motivated by certain S-duality considerations in string theory. The problems include L^2 harmonic forms, Betti numbers and mixed Hodge structures on the moduli spaces of Yang-Mills instantons on ALE gravitational instantons, magnetic monopoles on R^3 and Higgs bundles on a Riemann surface. Several of these spaces and their hyperkaehler metrics were constructed by Nigel Hitchin and his collaborators.
Results on symplectic spinors and their higher spin versions, concerning representation theory and cohomology properties are presented. Exterior forms with values in the symplectic spinors are decomposed into irreducible modules including finding the hidden symmetry (Schur--Weyl--Howe type duality) given by a representation of the Lie superalgebra $\mathfrak{osp}(1|2)$ in this case. We also determine ranges of the induced exterior symplectic spinor derivatives when they are restricted to bundles induced by the irreducible submodules mentioned. This duality is used to decompose curvature tensor…
