We study an interquark QQ^bar potential for the charmonium system, that is determined from the the equal-time and Coulomb gauge QQ^bar Bethe-Salpeter (BS) wavefunction through the effective Schrödinger equation. This novel approach enables us to evaluate a kinetic heavy quark mass m_Q and a proper interquark potential at finite quark mass m_Q, which receives all orders of 1/m_Q corrections on the static QQ^bar potential from Wilson loops, simultaneously. Precise information of the interquark potential for both charmonium and bottomonium states directly from lattice QCD provides us a chance to improve quark potential models, where the spin-independent interquark potential is phenomenologically described by the Cornell potential and the spin-dependent parts are deduced within the framework of perturbative QCD, from first-principles calculations. In this study, calculations are carried out in both quenched and dynamical fermion simulations. We first demonstrate that the interquark potential at finite quark mass calculated by the BS amplitude method smoothly approaches the conventional static heavy quark potential from Wilson loops in the infinitely heavy quark limit within quenched lattice QCD simulations. Secondly, we determine both spin-independent and -dependent parts of the interquark potential for the charmonium system in 2+1 flavor dynamical lattice QCD using the PACS-CS gauge configurations at the lightest pion mass, M_π=156 MeV.
The interquark potential in charmonium states is calculated for the first time in both the zero and non-zero temperature phases from a first-principles lattice QCD calculation. Simulations with two dynamical quark flavours were used with temperatures T in the range 0.4 T_c \lesssim T \lesssim 1.7 T_c, where T_c is the deconfining temperature. The correlators of point-split operators were analysed to gain spatial information about the charmonium states. A method, introduced by the HAL QCD collaboration and based on the Schroedinger equation, was applied to obtain the interquark potential. We fi…
We present spin-independent and spin-spin interquark potentials for charmonium states, that are calculated using a relativistic heavy quark action for charm quarks on the PACS-CS gauge configurations generated with the Iwasaki gauge action and 2+1 flavors of Wilson clover quark. The interquark potential with finite quark masses is defined through the equal-time Bethe-Salpeter amplitude. The light and strange quark masses are close to the physical point where the pion mass corresponds to $M_π\approx 156(7)$ MeV, and charm quark mass is tuned to reproduce the experimental values of $η_c$ and $J/…
We present spin-independent and spin-spin interquark potentials for the charmonium and charmed-strange mesons, which are calculated in 2+1 flavor lattice QCD simulations using the PACS-CS gauge configurations generated at the lightest pion mass ($M_π\approx 156(7)$~MeV) with a lattice cutoff of $a^{-1}\approx 2.2$ GeV and a spatial volume of $(3~{\rm fm})^3$. For the charm quark, we use a relativistic heavy quark (RHQ) action with fine tuned RHQ parameters, which closely reproduce both the experimental spin-averaged mass and hyper-fine splitting of the $1S$ charmonium. The interquark potential…
We present both spin-independent and -dependent parts of a central interquark potential for charmonium states, which is calculated in 2+1 flavor dynamical lattice QCD using the PACS-CS gauge configurations with a lattice cutoff of a^{-1}~2.2 GeV. Our simulations are performed with a relativistic heavy quark action for the charm quark at the lightest pion mass, M_π=156(7) MeV, in a spatial volume of 3fm^3. We observe that the spin-independent charmonium potential obtained from lattice QCD with almost physical quark masses is quite similar to the Conrnell potential used in non-relativistic poten…
The charmonium states at non-zero temperature are studied on anisotropic lattices with 2 dynamical quark flavours. Non-local operators are used to determine the Nambu-Bethe-Salpeter (NBS) wavefunctions via both conventional fitting methods and the Maximum Entropy Method. The interquark potential is determined from the solution of the Schrodinger equation, given the NBS wavefunction as input following the HAL QCD method. We observe a temperature dependent potential which becomes steeper as the temperature decreases.
We consider the potential-model approach for obtaining the spectrum of charmonium and bottomonium, replacing the usual gluon propagator by one obtained from lattice simulations. The resulting spectra are compared to the corresponding ones in the Cornell-potential case. We also estimate the interquark distance in both cases.
We consider the interquark potential in the one-gluon-exchange (OGE) approximation, using a fully nonperturbative gluon propagator from large-volume lattice simulations. The resulting VLGP potential is non-confining, showing that the OGE approximation is not sufficient to describe the infrared sector of QCD. Nevertheless, it represents an improvement over the perturbative (Coulomb-like) potential, since it allows the description of a few low-lying bound states of charmonium and bottomonium. In order to achieve a better description of these spectra, we add to VLGP a linearly growing term. The o…
Recent progress in the solution of Dyson-Schwinger equations of QCD allows for a non perturbative evaluation of the One Gluon Exchange (OGE) interaction. We calculate the interquark static potential for heavy mesons by assuming that it is given by this OGE interaction and we apply it to the description of charmonium.
We discuss the internal structure of radially excited charmonium mesons based on the equal-time and Coulomb gauge Bethe-Salpeter (BS) amplitudes, which are obtained in lattice QCD. Our simulations are performed with a relativistic heavy-quark action for the charm quark on the 2+1 flavor PACS-CS gauge configurations at the lightest pion mass, $M_π=156(7)$ MeV. The variational method is applied to the study of optimal charmonium operator for ground and first excited states of $S$-wave charmonia. We successfully calculate the BS wave functions of $η_c(2S)$ and $ψ(2S)$ states, as well as $η_c(1S)$…
We study charmonium correlators and spectral functions in quenched QCD, using Clover improved Wilson fermions on very fine (0.015 fm) isotropic lattices at 0.75 Tc and 1.5 Tc. We use a new approach to distinguish the zero mode contribution from the other contributions. Once this is removed, we find that the ratios of correlators to reconstructed correlators remain almost unity at all distances. The ground state peaks of spectral functions obtained at 0.75 Tc are reliable and robust. The present accuracy and limited number of points in the temporal direction at 1.5 Tc do not allow for a reliabl…
We study charmonium correlators in pseudoscalar and vector channels at finite temperature using lattice QCD simulation in the quenched approximation. Anisotropic lattices are used in order to have sufficient numbers of degrees of freedom in the Euclidean temporal direction. We focus on the low energy structure of the spectral function, corresponding to the ground state in the hadron phase, by applying the smearing technique to enhance the contribution to the correlator from this region. We employ two analysis procedures: the maximum entropy method (MEM) for the extraction of the spectral funct…
We show that in a quark model scheme the use of a screened potential, suggested by lattice QCD, instead of an infinitely rising one with the interquark distance, provides a more adequate description of the high-energy baryon spectrum. In particular an almost perfect parallelism between the predicted and observed number of states comes out throwing new light about the so-called missing resonance problem.
The mass components of charmoniumlike states are investigated through the decomposition of QCD energy-momentum tensor (EMT) on lattice. The quark mass contribution $\langle H_m\rangle$ and the momentum fraction $\langle x\rangle$ of valence charm quark and antiquark are calculated for conventional $1S,1P,1D$ charmonia and the exotic $1^{-+}$ charmoniumlike state, based on the $N_f=2+1$ gauge configurations generated by the RBC/UKQCD collaboration. It is found that $\langle H_m\rangle$ is close to each other and around 2.0 to 2.2 GeV for these states, which implies that the mass splittings amon…
Charmonia spectral functions at finite temperature are studied using QCD sum rules in combination with the maximum entropy method. This approach enables us to directly obtain the spectral function from the sum rules, without having to introduce any specific assumption about its functional form. As a result, it is found that while J/psi and eta_c manifest themselves as significant peaks in the spectral function below the deconfinement temperature T_c, they quickly dissolve into the continuum and almost completely disappear at temperatures between 1.0 T_c and 1.1 T_c.
We propose a novel method for the determination of the interquark potential together with quark "kinetic mass'' $m_Q$ from the equal-time $Q\bar{Q}$ Bethe-Salpeter (BS) amplitude in lattice QCD. Our approach allows us to calculate spin-dependent $Q\bar{Q}$ potentials, e.g. the spin-spin potential, as well. In order to investigate several systematic uncertainties on such $Q\bar{Q}$ potentials, we carry out lattice QCD simulations using quenched gauge configurations generated with the single plaquette gauge action with three different lattice spacings, $a \approx$ 0.093, 0.068 and 0.047 fm, and …
J/Psi and eta_c above the QCD critical temperature T_c are studied in anisotropic quenched lattice QCD, considering whether the c\bar c systems above T_c are spatially compact (quasi-)bound states or scattering states. We adopt the standard Wilson gauge action and O(a)-improved Wilson quark action with renormalized anisotropy a_s/a_t =4.0 at β=6.10 on 16^3\times (14-26) lattices, which correspond to the spatial lattice volume V\equiv L^3\simeq(1.55{\rm fm})^3 and temperatures T\simeq(1.11-2.07)T_c. We investigate the c\bar c system above T_c from the temporal correlators with spatially-extende…
In this work, we generate gauge configurations with $N_f=2$ dynamical charm quarks on anisotropic lattices. The mass shift of $1S$ and $1P$ charmonia owing to the charm quark annihilation effect can be investigated directly in a manner of unitary theory. The distillation method is adopted to treat the charm quark annihilation diagrams at a very precise level. For $1S$ charmonia, the charm quark annihilation effect almost does not change the $J/ψ$ mass, but lifts the $η_c$ mass by approximately 3-4 MeV. For $1P$ charmonia, this effect results in positive mass shifts of approximately 1 MeV for $…
We study the Abelian projection of quark confinement in SU(3) quenched lattice QCD, in terms of the dual superconductor picture. In the maximal Abelian gauge, we perform the Cartan decomposition of the non-Abelian gauge field on a $32^4$ lattice with spacing $a \simeq0.058, 0.10$ fm (i.e., $β=6.4, 6.0$), and investigate the interquark potential $V(r)$, the Abelian part $V_{\mathrm{Abel}}(r)$, and the off-diagonal part $V_{\mathrm{off}}(r)$. For the potential analysis, we use both on-axis data and several types of off-axis data, with larger numbers of gauge configurations. Remarkably, we find a…
We present lattice QCD results for the screening masses of light mesons and charmonia. The lattice computations were performed with 2+1 flavors of improved staggered quarks using quark masses which correspond to realistic pion and kaon masses at zero temperature. For the light quark sector we have found that the screening masses in the pseudo-scalar and the isovector scalar channels do not become degenerate at the chiral crossover temperature indicating an effective non-restoration of the axial symmetry. Also the splitting between the vector and the pseudo-scalar screening masses persists even…
The two exotic $P_c^+(4380)$ and $P_c^+(4450)$ discovered in $2015$ by the LHCb Collaboration, together with the four resonances $X(4140)$, $X(4274)$, $X(4500)$ and $X(4700)$, reported in $2016$ by the same collaboration, are described in a constituent quark model which has been able to explain the properties of charmonium states from the $J/ψ$ to the $X(3872)$. Using this model we found a $\bar DΣ_c^*$ bound state with $J^P=\frac{3}{2}^-$ that may be identified with the $P_c^+(4380)$. In the $\bar D^*Σ_c$ channel we found three possible candidates for the $P_c^+(4450)$ with $J^P=\frac{1}{2}^-…
We investigate the properties of heavy quarkonia at finite temperature in detail using QCD sum rules. Extending previous analyses, we take into account a temperature dependent effective continuum threshold and derive constraints on the mass, the width, and the varying effective continuum threshold. We find that at least one of these quantities of a charmonium changes abruptly in the vicinity of the phase transition. We also calculate the ratio of the imaginary time correlator to its reconstructed one, $G/G_{\text{rec}}$, by constructing a model spectral function and compare it to the correspon…
Hadron masses can be decomposed as a sum of components which are defined through hadronic matrix elements of QCD operators. The components consist of the quark mass term, the quark energy term, the glue energy term and the trace anomaly term. We calculate these components of mesons with lattice QCD for the first time. The calculation is carried out with overlap fermion on $2+1$ flavor domain-wall fermion gauge configurations. We confirm that $\sim 50\%$ of the light pion mass comes from the quark mass and $\sim 10\%$ comes from the quark energy, whereas, the contributions are found to be the o…

We extract (for the first time) the ratio of the gluon condensate < g^3f_{abc}G^3 >/< alpha_s G^2 > expressed in terms of the liquid instanton radius rho_c from charmonium moments sum rules by examining the effects of < alpha_s G^2 > in the determinations of both rho_c and the running MS mass m_c(m_c). Using a global analysis of selected ratios of moments at different Q^2=0, 4m_c^2 and 8m_c^2 and taking < alpha_s G^2 > from 0.06 GeV^4, where the estimate of rho_c is almost independent of < alpha_s G^2 >, we deduce: rho_c=0.98(21) GeV^{-1} which corresponds to < g^3f_{abc}G^3 > = (31+- 13) GeV^…
