We examine the vertical component of surface area in the warped product of a Euclidean interval and a fiber manifold with product density. We determine general conditions under which vertical fibers minimize vertical surface area among regions bounding the same volume and use these results to conclude that in many such spaces vertical fibers are isoperimetric. Our main hypothesis is that the surface area of a fiber be a convex function of the volume it bounds. We apply our results in the specific case of $\mathbb{R}^{n}-\{0\}$ realized as the warped product $(0,\infty)\times_{r}S^{n-1}$, providing many new examples of densities where spheres about the origin are isoperimetric, including simple densities with finite volume, simple densities that at the origin are neither log-convex nor smooth, and non-simple densities. We also generalize the results of Kolesnikov and Zhdanov on large balls in $\mathbb{R}^{n}$ with increasing strictly log-convex simple density. We situate our work in relation to the Log-Convex Density Conjecture of Rosales et al. and the recent work by Morgan, Ritoré, and others on formulating a generalized log-convex density/stable spheres conjecture.
We obtain necessary conditions for the existence of complete vertical graphs of constant mean curvature in the Hyperbolic and Steady State spaces. In the two-dimensional case we prove Bernstein-type results in each of these ambient spaces.
In this paper, we introduce horizontal and vertical warped product Finsler manifold. We prove that every C-reducible or proper Berwaldian doubly warped product Finsler manifold is Riemannian. Then, we find the relation between Riemmanian curvatures of doubly warped product Finsler manifold and its components, and consider the cases that this manifold is flat or has scalar flag curvature. We define the doubly warped Sasaki-Matsumoto metric for warped product manifolds and find a condition under which the horizontal and vertical tangent bundles are totally geodesic. Also, we obtain some conditio…
In this short survey, we show how two (classes of) known examples of inhomogeneous, curvature homogeneous Riemannian manifolds with nontrivial $κ$-nullity can be seen as deformations of homogeneous metrics along the vertical distribution of an integrable Riemannian submersion. We also pose two open questions.
Given a warped product space $\mathbb{R} \times_{f} N$ with logarithmically convex warping function $f$, we prove a relative isoperimetric inequality for regions bounded between a subset of a vertical fiber and its image under an almost everywhere differentiable mapping in the horizontal direction. In particular, given a $k$--dimensional region $F \subset \{b\} \times N$, and the horizontal graph $C \subset \mathbb{R} \times_{f} N$ of an almost everywhere differentiable map over $F$, we prove that the $k$--volume of $C$ is always at least the $k$--volume of the smooth constant height graph ove…
Given a convex cone in the \emph{prescribed} warped product, we consider hypersurfaces with boundary which are star-shaped with respect to the center of the cone and which meet the cone perpendicularly. If those hypersurfaces inside the cone evolve along the inverse mean curvature flow, then, by using the convexity of the cone, we can prove that this evolution exists for all the time and the evolving hypersurfaces converge smoothly to a piece of round sphere as time tends to infinity.
We study inverse mean curvature flows of starshaped, mean convex hypersurfaces in warped product manifolds with a positive warping factor $φ(r)$. If $φ'(r)>0$ and $φ''(r)\geq 0$, we show that these flows exist for all times, remain starshaped and mean convex. Plus the positivity of $φ''(r)$ and a curvature condition we obtain a lower positive bound of mean curvature along these flows independent of the initial mean curvature. We also give a sufficient condition to extend the asymptotic behavior of these flows in Euclidean spaces into some more general warped product manifolds.
We study graphs of positive extrinsic curvature with a non-removable isolated singularity in 3-dimensional warped product spaces, and describe their behavior at the singularity in several natural situations. We use Monge-Ampère equations to give a classification of the surfaces in 3-dimensional space forms which are embedded around a non-removable isolated singularity and have a prescribed, real analytic, positive extrinsic curvature function at every point. Specifically, we prove that this space is in one-to-one correspondence with the space of regular, analytic, strictly convex Jordan curves…
We show that compact embedded starshaped $r$-convex hypersurfaces of certain warped products satisfying $H_r=aH+b$ with $a\geqslant 0$, $b>0$, where $H$ and $H_r$ are respectively the mean curvature and $r$-th mean curvature is a slice. In the case of space forms, we show that without the assumption of starshapedness, such Weingarten hypersurfaces are geodesic spheres. Finally, we prove that, in the case of space forms, if $Hr-aH-b$ is close to $0$ then the hypersurface is close to geodesic sphere for the Hausdorff distance. We also prove an anisotropic version of this stability result in the …
In this paper we study self-similar solutions in warped products satisfying $F-\mathcal{F}=\bar{g}(λ(r)\partial_{r},ν)$, where $\mathcal{F}$ is a nonnegative constant and $F$ is in a class of general curvature functions including powers of mean curvature and Gauss curvature. We show that slices are the only closed strictly convex self-similar solutions in the hemisphere for such $F$. We also obtain a similar uniqueness result in hyperbolic space $\mathbb{H}^{3}$ for Gauss curvature $F$ and $\mathcal{F}\geq 1$.

The paper is centered around a new proof of the infinitesimal rigidity of convex polyhedra. The proof is based on studying derivatives of the discrete Hilbert-Einstein functional on the space of "warped polyhedra" with a fixed metric on the boundary. This approach is in a sense dual to using derivatives of the volume in order to prove the Gauss infinitesimal rigidity of convex polyhedra, which deals with deformations that preserve face normals and face areas. In the spherical and in the hyperbolic-de Sitter space, there is a perfect duality between the Hilbert-Einstein functional and the volum…
We consider the curvature of a family of warped products of two pseduo-Riemannian manifolds $(B,g_B)$ and $(F,g_F)$ furnished with metrics of the form $c^{2}g_B \oplus w^2 g_F$ and, in particular, of the type $w^{2 μ}g_B \oplus w^2 g_F$, where $c, w \colon B \to (0,\infty)$ are smooth functions and $μ$ is a real parameter. We obtain suitable expressions for the Ricci tensor and scalar curvature of such products that allow us to establish results about the existence of Einstein or constant scalar curvature structures in these categories. If $(B,g_B)$ is Riemannian, the latter question involves …
Let $M^n=[0,R)\times \mathbb{S}^{n-1}$ be an $n$-dimensional ($n\geq 2$) smooth Riemannian manifold equipped with the warped product metric $g=dr^2+h^2(r)g_{\mathbb{S}^{n-1}}$ and diffeomorphic to a Euclidean ball. Assume that $M$ has strictly convex boundary. First, for the classical Steklov eigenvalue problem, we obtain an optimal lower (upper, respectively) bound for its spectrum in terms of $h'(R)/h(R)$ when $Ric_g\geq 0$ ($\leq 0$, respectively). Second, for two fourth-order Steklov eigenvalue problems studied by Kuttler and Sigillito in 1968, we derive a lower bound for their spectra in …
We construct geometric barriers for minimal graphs in H^n xR. We prove the existence and uniqueness of a solution of the vertical minimal equation in the interior of a convex polyhedron in H^n extending continuously to the interior of each face, taking infinite boundary data on one face and zero boundary value data on the other faces. In H^n xR, we solve the Dirichlet problem for the vertical minimal equation in a C^0 convex domain taking arbitrarily continuous finite boundary and asymptotic boundary data. We prove the existence of another Scherk type hypersurface, given by the solution of the…
We consider minimal immersions in MxR. We study existence and uniqueness of associate and conjugate isometric immersions to a given minimal surface. We use the theory of univalent harmonic map between surfaces. Then we study the geometry of associate minimal vertical graphs. We prove that an associate surface of a vertical graph on a convex domain is a graph. In the classical theory it is a theorem of R. Krust.
