We construct a crossed product Banach algebra from a Banach algebra dynamical system $(A,G,α)$ and a given uniformly bounded class $R$ of continuous covariant Banach space representations of that system. If $A$ has a bounded left approximate identity, and $R$ consists of non-degenerate continuous covariant representations only, then the non-degenerate bounded representations of the crossed product are in bijection with the non-degenerate $R$-continuous covariant representations of the system. This bijection, which is the main result of the paper, is also established for involutive Banach algebra dynamical systems and then yields the well-known representation theoretical correspondence for the crossed product $C^*$-algebra as commonly associated with a $C^*$-algebra dynamical system as a special case. Taking the algebra $A$ to be the base field, the crossed product construction provides, for a given non-empty class of Banach spaces, a Banach algebra with a relatively simple structure and with the property that its non-degenerate contractive representations in the spaces from that class are in bijection with the isometric strongly continuous representations of $G$ in those spaces. This generalizes the notion of a group $C^*$-algebra, and may likewise be used to translate issues concerning group representations in a class of Banach spaces to the context of a Banach algebra, simpler than $L^1(G)$, where more functional analytic structure is present.
We prove that the crossed product Banach algebra $\ell^1(G,A;α)$ that is associated with a ${\mathrm C}^\ast$-dynamical system $(A,G,α)$ is amenable if $G$ is a discrete amenable group and $A$ is a strongly amenable ${\mathrm C}^\ast$-algebra. This is a consequence of the combination of a more general result with Paterson's characterisation of strongly amenable unital $\mathrm{C}^\ast$-algebras in terms of invariant means for their unitary groups.
In this paper we provide upper estimates for the global projective dimensions of smooth crossed products $\mathscr{S}(G, A; α)$ for $G = \mathbb{R}$ and $G = \mathbb{T}$ and a self-induced Fréchet-Arens-Michael algebra $A$. In order to do this, we provide a powerful generalization of methods which are used in the works of Ogneva and Helemskii.
We show that for a closed embedding $\mathbb{H}\le \mathbb{G}$ of locally compact quantum groups (LCQGs) with $\mathbb{G}/\mathbb{H}$ admitting an invariant probability measure, a unitary $\mathbb{G}$-representation is type-I if its restriction to $\mathbb{H}$ is. On a related note, we also prove that if an action $\mathbb{G}\circlearrowright A$ of an LCQG on a unital $C^*$-algebra admits an invariant state then the full group algebra of $\mathbb{G}$ embeds into the resulting full crossed product (and into the multiplier algebra of that crossed product if the original algebra is not unital). We show that for a C*-algebra A and a discrete group G with an action of G on A, the reduced crossed product C*-algebra possesses a natural generalization of the convolution product, which we suggest should be named the Hadamard product. We show that this product has a natural Stinespring representation and we lift some known results on block Schur products to this setting, but we also show that the block Schur product is a special case of the Hadamard product in a crossed product algebra.
