In this paper we study the Kato' inequality on locally finite graph. We also study the application of Kato inequality to Ginzburg-Landau equations on such graphs. Interesting properties of Schrodinger equation and a Liouville type theorem are also derived.
This note introduces bilinear estimates intended as a step towards an $L^\infty$-endpoint Kato-Ponce inequality. In particular, a bilinear version of the classical Gagliardo-Nirenberg interpolation inequalities for a product of functions is proved.
We prove an improved version of the trace-Hardy inequality, so-called Kato's inequality, on the half-space in Finsler context. The resulting inequality extends the former one obtained by \cite{AFV} in Euclidean context. Also we discuss the validity of the same type of inequalities on open cones.
We consider various versions of fractional Leibniz rules (also known as Kato-Ponce inequalities) with polynomial weights $\langle x\rangle^a = (1+|x|^2)^{a/2}$ for $a\ge 0$. We show that the weighted Kato-Ponce estimate with the inhomogeneous Bessel potential $J^s = (1- \De)^{{s}/{2}}$ holds for the full range of bilinear Lebesgue exponents, for all polynomial weights, and for the sharp range of the degree $s$. This result, in particular, demonstrates that neither the classical Muckenhoupt weight condition nor the more general multilinear weight condition is required for the weighted Kato-Ponc…
We show that harmonic spinors obey a strengthened version of the well-known pointwise Kato inequality for sections of a vector bundle with a connection. We then prove a decay estimate for eigenspinors using this Kato-Yau estimate and resulting differential inequality. We briefly describe some applications to gauge theory---specifically to integral estimates which are used when gluing and ungluing PU(2) monopoles (math.DG/9907107).
For a general class of divergence type quasi-linear degenerate parabolic equations with measurable coeffcients and lower order terms from non-linear Kato-type classes, we prove local boundedness and continuity of solutions, and the intrinsic Harnack inequality for positive solutions.
Let $(M,g)$ be a Riemannian manifold with Laplace-Beltrami operator $-Δ$ and let $E\to M$ be a Hermitian vector bundle with a Hermitian covariant derivative $\nabla$. Furthermore, let H(0) denote the Friedrichs realization of $\nabla^*\nabla$ and let $V$ be a potential. We prove that $V^-$ is H(0)-form bounded with bound $<1$, if the function $\maxσ(V^-)$ is in the Kato class of $(M,g)$. In particular, this gives a sufficient condition under which one can define the form sum $H(V):=H(0)\dotplus V$ on arbitrary Riemannian manifolds.
Kato's inequality is shown for the magnetic relativistic Schrödinger operator $H_{A,m}$ defined as the operator theoretical {\it square root} of the selfadjoint, magnetic nonrelativistic Schrödinger operator $(-i\nabla-A(x))^2+m^2$ with an $L^{2}_{\text{\rm loc}}$ vector potential $A(x)$.
In this article we develop a simplistic approach to revisit the classical Kato-Ponce inequality, which is also known as 'fractional Leibniz rule.' As a consequence, we derive the validity of this inequality even in quasi-Banach spaces $L^p$ for $p<1$ with a certain restrictions on the indices. Also, we display the sharpness of this restriction by means of a counter-example. Finally, we also prove a multi-parameter variant of the inequality, which allows for partial fractional derivatives on $R^n$.
We extend the classical Kato's inequality in order to allow functions $u \in L^1_\mathrm{loc}$ such that $Δu$ is a Radon measure. This inequality has been applied by Brezis, Marcus, and Ponce to study the existence of solutions of the nonlinear equation $- Δu + g(u) = μ$, where $μ$ is a measure and $g : \mathbb{R} \to \mathbb{R}$ is an increasing continuous function.
We are interested in the upper bound of the lifespan of solutions of semilinear wave equations from above. For the sub-critical case in high dimensions, it has been believed that the basic tools of its analysis are Kato's lemma on ordinary differential inequalities and the rescaling argument in the functional method. But there is a small lack of delicate analysis and no published paper about this. Here we give a simple alternative proof by means of improved Kato's lemma without any rescaling argument.
Using a variant of Caccioppoli's inequality involving small weights, i.e. weights of the form $(1+|\nabla u|^2)^{-α/2}$ for some $α> 0$, we establish several Liouville-type theorems under general non-standard growth conditions.
In this paper we deal with a class of inequalities which interpolate the Kato's inequality and the Hardy's inequality in the half space. Starting from the classical Hardy's inequality in the half space $\rnpiu =\R^{n-1}\times(0,\infty)$, we show that, if we replace the optimal constant $\frac{(n-2)^2}{4}$ with a smaller one $\frac{(β-2)^2}{4}$, $2\le β<n$, then we can add an extra trace-term equals to that one that appears in the Kato's inequality. The constant in the trace remainder term is optimal and it tends to zero when $β$ goes to $n$, while it is equal to the optimal constant in the Kat…
We show that in the Kato-Ponce inequality $\|J^s(fg)-fJ^s g\|_p \lesssim \| \partial f \|_{\infty} \| J^{s-1} g \|_p + \| J^s f \|_p \|g\|_{\infty}$, the $J^s f$ term on the RHS can be replaced by $J^{s-1} \partial f$. This solves a question raised in Kato-Ponce \cite{KP88}. We propose and prove a new fractional Leibniz rule for $D^s=(-Δ)^{s/2}$ and similar operators, generalizing the Kenig-Ponce-Vega estimate \cite{KPV93} to all $s>0$. We also prove a family of generalized and refined Kato-Ponce type inequalities which include many commutator estimates as special cases. To showcase the sharpn…
We obtain a generalized version of an inequality, first derived by C. Bandle in the analytic setting, for weak subsolutions of a singular Liouville-type equation. As an application we obtain a new proof of the Alexandrov isoperimetric inequality on singular abstract surfaces. Interestingly enough, motivated by this geometric problem, we obtain a seemingly new characterization of local metrics on Alexandrov's surfaces of bounded curvature. At least to our knowledge, the characterization of the equality case in the isoperimetric inequality in such a weak framework is new as well.
We establish refinements of the classical Kato inequality for sections of a vector bundle which lie in the kernel of a natural injectively elliptic first-order linear differential operator. Our main result is a general expression which gives the value of the constants appearing in the refined inequalities. These constants are shown to be optimal and are computed explicitly in most practical cases.
Let $σ>1$ and let $M$ be a complete Riemannian manifold. In a recent work [9], Grigor$^{\prime}$yan and Sun proved that a pointwise upper bound of volume growth is sufficient for uniqueness of nonnegative solutions of elliptic inequality $$(*)\quad\qquad\qquad\qquad Δu(x)+u^σ(x)\leq 0,\qquad x\in M.\quad\qquad \qquad\qquad $$ In this note, we improve their result to that an \emph{integral condition} on volume growth implies the same uniqueness of ($*$). It is inspired by the well-known Varopoulos-Grigor$^{\prime}$yan's criterion for parabolicity of $M$.
We consider a class of singular Liouville equations on compact surfaces motivated by the study of Electroweak and Self-Dual Chern-Simons theories, the Gaussian curvature prescription with conical singularities and Onsager's description of turbulence. We analyse the problem of existence variationally, and show how the angular distribution of the conformal volume near the singularities may lead to improvements in the Moser-Trudinger inequality, and in turn to lower bounds on the Euler-Lagrange functional. We then discuss existence and non-existence results.
We derive a singular version of the Sphere Covering Inequality which was recently introduced in [42], suitable for treating singular Liouville-type problems with superharmonic weights. As an application we deduce new uniqueness results for solutions of the singular mean field equation both on spheres and on bounded domains, as well as new self-contained proofs of previously known results, such as the uniqueness of spherical convex polytopes first established in [56]. Furthermore, we derive new symmetry results for the spherical Onsager vortex equation.
We prove, with a purely analytic technique, a one-side Liouville theorem for a class of Ornstein--Uhlenbeck operators ${\mathcal L_0}$ in $\mathbb{R}^N$, as a consequence of a Liouville theorem at "$t=- \infty$" for the corresponding Kolmogorov operators ${\mathcal L_0} - \partial_t$ in $\mathbb{R}^{N+1}$. In turn, this last result is proved as a corollary of a global Harnack inequality for non-negative solutions to $({\mathcal L_0} - \partial_t) u = 0$ which seems to have an independent interest in its own right. We stress that our Liouville theorem for ${\mathcal L_0}$ cannot be obtained by …
We continue an analysis, started in [10], of some issues related to the incompressible Euler or Navier-Stokes (NS) equations on a d-dimensional torus T^d. More specifically, we consider the quadratic term in these equations; this arises from the bilinear map (v, w) -> v . D w, where v, w : T^d -> R^d are two velocity fields. We derive upper and lower bounds for the constants in some inequalities related to the above bilinear map; these bounds hold, in particular, for the sharp constants G_{n d} = G_n in the Kato inequality | < v . D w | w >_n | <= G_n || v ||_n || w ||^2_n, where n in (d/2 + 1…
Motivated by the study of self gravitating cosmic strings, we pursue the well known method by C. Bandle to obtain a weak version of the classical Alexandrov's isoperimetric inequality. In fact we derive some quantitative estimates for weak subsolutions of a Liouville-type equation with conical singularities. Actually we succeed in generalizing previously known results, including Bol's inequality and pointwise estimates, to the case where the solutions solve the equation just in the sense of distributions. Next, we derive some \uv{new} pointwise estimates suitable to be applied to a class of si…
We analyze the probabilistic variance of a solution of Liouville's equation for curvature, given suitable bounds on the Gaussian curvature. The related systolic geometry was recently studied by Horowitz, Katz, and Katz, where we obtained a strengthening of Loewner's torus inequality containing a "defect term", similar to Bonnesen's strengthening of the isoperimetric inequality. Here the analogous isosystolic defect term depends on the metric and "measures" its deviation from being flat. Namely, the defect is the variance of the function f which appears as the conformal factor expressing the me…
In this paper we prove a Moser-Trudinger inequality for the Euler-Lagrange functional of a general singular Liouville system. We characterize the values of the parameters which yield coercivity for the functional and we give necessary conditions for boundedness from below. We also provide a sharp inequality under some assumptions on the coefficients of the system.
We study two problems. The first one is the similarity problem for the indefinite Sturm-Liouville operator \[ A=-(\sgn\, x)\frac{d}{wdx}\frac{d}{rdx} \] acting in $L^2_{w}(-b,b)$. It is assumed that $w,r\in L^1_{\loc}(-b,b)$ are even and positive a.e. on $(-b,b)$. The second object is the so-called HELP inequality \[(\int_{0}^b\frac{1}{\tilde{r}}|f'|\, dx)^2 \le K^2 \int_{0}^b|f|^2\tilde{w}\,dx\int_{0}^b\Big|\frac{1}{\tilde{w}}\big(\frac{1}{\tilde{r}}f'\big)'\Big|^2\tilde{w}\, dx, \] where the coefficients $\tilde{w},\tilde{r}\in L^1_{\loc}[0,b)$ are positive a.e. on $(0,b)$. Both problems are…
We prove a sharp Onofri-type inequality and non-existence of extremals for a Moser-Tudinger functional on the sphere in the presence of potentials having positive order singularities. We also investigate the existence of critical points and give some sufficient conditions under symmetry or nondegeneracy assumptions.

In this paper we shall give an analytic proof of the fact that the Liouville energy on a topological two sphere is bounded from below. Our proof does not rely on the uniformization theorem and the Onofri inequality, thus it is essentially needed in the alternative proof of the uniformization theorem via the Calabi flow. Such an analytic approach also sheds light on how to obtain the boundedness for E_1 energy in the study of general Kähler manifolds.
In this paper, we generalize Liouville type theorems for some semilinear partial differential inequalities to sub-Riemannian manifolds satisfying a nonnegative generalized curvature-dimension inequality introduced by Baudoin and Garofalo in [5]. In particular, our results apply to all Sasakian manifolds with nonnegative horizontal Webster-Tanaka-Ricci curvature. The key ingredient is to construct a class of "good" cut-off functions. We also provide some upper bounds for lifespan to parabolic and hyperbolic inequalities.
We study some function-theoretic properties on a complete smooth metric measure space $(M,g,e^{-f}dv)$ with Bakry-Émery Ricci curvature bounded from below. We derive a Moser's parabolic Harnack inequality for the $f$-heat equation, which leads to upper and lower Gaussian bounds on the $f$-heat kernel. We also prove $L^p$-Liouville theorems in terms of the lower bound of Bakry-Émery Ricci curvature and the bound of function $f$, which generalize the classical Ricci curvature case and the $N$-Bakry-Émery Ricci curvature case.
This paper has been withdrawn by the author due to the fact that the negative sign of the exponent of $R$ in (2.20) is not allowed by the second inequality of (2.2), and thus the desired vanishing in (2.20) could not be obtained by this method.
We study nonexistence and existence of nontrivial positive solutions to the following semilinear elliptic inequality involving gradient terms \[ Δu+u^p\left|\nabla u\right|^q\leq0, \] on weighted graphs, where $(p,q)\in\mathbb{R}^2$. We give a complete classification of $(p,q)$ under which sharp volume growth assumptions are established.
In this article we continue with the research initiated in our previous work on singular Liouville equations with quantized singularity. The main goal of this article is to prove that as long as the bubbling solutions violate the spherical Harnack inequality near a singular source, the first derivatives of coefficient functions must tend to zero.
We prove symmetry and uniqueness results for three classes of Liouville-type problems arising in geometry and mathematical physics: asymmetric Sinh-Gordon equation, cosmic string equation and Toda system, under certain assumptions on the mass associated to these problems. The argument is in the spirit of the Sphere Covering Inequality which for the first time is used in treating different exponential nonlinearities and systems.
In this note, we study the Liouville equation $Δu = -e^u$ on a graph G satisfying certain isoperimetric inequality. Following the idea of W. Ding, we prove that there exists a uniform lower bound for the energy, $Σ_G e^u$ of any solution $u$, to the equation. In particular, for the 2-dimensional lattice graph $Z^2$; the lower bound is given by 4.
We develop Green's function estimate for manifolds satisfying a weighted Poincare inequality together with a compatible lower bound on the Ricci curvature. The estimate is then applied to establish existence and sharp estimates of the solution to the Poisson equation on such manifolds. As an application, a Liouville property for finite energy holomorphic functions is proven on a class of complete Kähler manifolds. Consequently, such Kähler manifolds must be connected at infinity.
We show that, under certain geometric conditions, there are no nonconstant quasiminimizers with finite $p$th power energy in a (not necessarily complete) metric measure space equipped with a globally doubling measure supporting a global $p$-Poincaré inequality. The geometric conditions are that either (a) the measure has a sufficiently strong volume growth at infinity, or (b) the metric space is annularly quasiconvex (or its discrete version, annularly chainable) around some point in the space. Moreover, on the weighted real line $\mathbf{R}$, we characterize all locally doubling measures, sup…
In this article we study local and global properties of positive solutions of $-Δ_mu=|u|^{p-1}u+M|\nabla u|^q$ in a domain $Ω$ of $\mathbb R^N$, with $m>1$, $p,q>0$ and $M\in\mathbb R$. Following some ideas used in \cite{BV,Vron1}, and by using a direct Bernstein method combined with Keller-Osserman's estimate, we obtain several a priori estimates as well as Liouville type theorems. Moreover, we prove a local Harnack inequality with the help of Serrin's classical results.
We discuss the problem how "bad" may be lower-order coefficients in elliptic and parabolic second order equations to ensure some qualitative properties of solution such as strong maximum principle, Harnack's inequality, Liouville's theorem. The answers are given in terms of the Lebesgue spaces and the Morrey spaces.
