We show how the linearized equations of motion of any dissipative current are determined by the analytical structure of the associated retarded Green's function. If the singularity of the Green's function, which is nearest to the origin in the complex-frequency plane, is a simple pole on the imaginary frequency axis, the linearized equations of motion can be reduced to relaxation-type equations for the dissipative currents. The value of the relaxation time is given by the inverse of this pole. We prove that, if the relaxation time is sent to zero, or equivalently, the pole to infinity, the dissipative currents approach the values given by the standard gradient expansion.
Development of a new framework for derivation of order-by-order hydrodynamics from Boltzmann equation is necessary as the widely used Anderson-Witting formalism leads to violation of fundamental conservation laws when the relaxation-time depends on particle energy, or in a hydrodynamic frame other than the Landau frame. We generalize an existing framework for consistent derivation of relativistic dissipative hydrodynamics from the Boltzmann equation with a energy-dependent relaxation-time by extending the Anderson-Witting relaxation-time approximation. We argue that the present framework is co…
We analyze the linear causality and stability of third-order fluid dynamics considering perturbations around a global equilibrium state. We investigate the formulation derived from kinetic theory, using the Chapman-Enskog expansion, in PRC 88, 021903, which was shown to be in excellent agreement with solutions of the microscopic theory. From this analysis, we demonstrate that this theory is linearly acausal and unstable and that such instabilities cannot be corrected by tuning the transport coefficients. We then propose a modification of this theory, valid only in the linear regime, that can b…
We consider uncharged fluids without any boost symmetry on an arbitrary curved background and classify all allowed transport coefficients up to first order in derivatives. We assume rotational symmetry and we use the entropy current formalism. The curved background geometry in the absence of boost symmetry is called absolute or Aristotelian spacetime. We present a closed-form expression for the energy-momentum tensor in Landau frame which splits into three parts: a dissipative (10), a hydrostatic non-dissipative (2) and a non-hydrostatic non-dissipative part (4), where in parenthesis we have i…
We realize the weak momentum relaxation in Rindler fluid, which lives on the time-like cutoff surface in an accelerating frame of flat spacetime. The translational invariance is broken by massless scalar fields with weak strength. Both of the Ward identity and the momentum relaxation rate of Rindler fluid are obtained, with higher order correction in terms of the strength of momentum relaxation. The Rindler fluid with momentum relaxation could also be approached through the near horizon limit of cutoff AdS fluid with momentum relaxation, which lives on a finite time-like cutoff surface in Anti…
