Context: In 2.2m MPG-ESO/WFI data we discovered several mass peaks through weak lensing, forming a possible supercluster at redshift 0.45. Through multi-colour wide-field imaging with CFHT/Megaprime and INT/WFC we identify early-type galaxies and trace the supercluster network with them. Through EMMI/NTT multi-object spectroscopy we verify the initial shear-selected cluster candidates. Using weak lensing we obtain mass estimates for the supercluster centre and the filaments.
Results: We identified the centre of the SCL2243-0935 supercluster, MACS J2243-0935, which was found independently by Ebeling et al. (2010). 13 more clusters or overdensities are embedded in a filamentary network, half of them are already spectroscopically confirmed. Three (5-15) Mpc filaments are detected, and we estimate the global size of SCL2243 to 45x15x50 Mpc, making it one of the largest superclusters known at intermediate redshifts. Weak lensing yields r_200=(2.06+/-0.13) Mpc and M_200=(1.54+/-0.29)x10^15 M_sun for MACS J2243 with M/L=428+/-82, very similar to results from size-richness cluster scaling relations. Integrating the weak lensing surface mass density over the supercluster network (defined by increased i-band luminosity or g-i colours), we find (1.53+/-1.01)x10^15 M_sun and M/L=305+/-201 for the three main filaments, consistant with theoretical predictions. The filaments' projected surface mass density is 0.007-0.012, corresponding to 10-100 times the critical density. The greatly varying density of the cosmic web is also reflected in the mean colour of galaxies. Conclusions: SCL2243 is significantly larger and much more richly structured than other known superclusters such as A901/902 or MS0302 studied with weak lensing before. It is a text-book supercluster with little contamination along the line of sight, making it a perfect sandbox for testing new techniques probing the cosmic web.
Aims. We investigate how properties of the ensemble of superclusters in the cosmic web evolve with time. Methods. We perform numerical simulations of the evolution of the cosmic web using the LambdaCDM model in box sizes L0 = 1024, 512, 256 Mpc/h. We find supercluster ensembles of models for four evolutionary stages, corresponding to the present epoch z = 0, and to redshifts z = 1, z = 3, and z = 10. We calculate fitness diameters of superclusters defined from volumes of superclusters divided to filling factors of over-density regions. Geometrical and fitness diameters of largest superclusters…
We study the cosmic web at redshifts 1.0 <= z <= 1.8 using quasar systems based on quasar data from the SDSS DR7 QSO catalogue. Quasar systems were determined with a friend-of-friend (FoF) algorithm at a series of linking lengths. At the linking lengths l <= 30 Mpc/h the diameters of quasar systems are smaller than the diameters of random systems, and are comparable to the sizes of galaxy superclusters in the local Universe. The mean space density of quasar systems is close to the mean space density of local rich superclusters. At larger linking lengths the diameters of quasar systems are comp…
We study the properties, connectivity, and galaxy content of groups and filaments in the low-density region (cocoon) around A2142 supercluster (SClA2142). We traced the SClA2142 cocoon boundaries by the lowest luminosity-density regions that separate SClA2142 from other superclusters. We determined galaxy filaments and groups in the cocoon and analysed the connectivity of groups, the high density core (HDC) of the supercluster, and the whole of the supercluster. We compared the distribution and properties of galaxies with different star-formation properties in the supercluster and in the cocoo…
The largest galaxy systems in the cosmic web are superclusters, overdensity regions of galaxies, groups, clusters, and filaments. Low-density regions around superclusters are called basins of attraction or cocoons. In my talk I discuss the properties of galaxies, groups, and filaments in the A2142 supercluster and its cocoon at redshift $z \approx 0.09$. Cocoon boundaries are determined by the lowest density regions around the supercluster. We analyse the structure, dynamical state, connectivity, and galaxy content of the supercluster, and its high density core with the cluster A2142. We show …
The formation and evolution of the cosmic web in which galaxy superclusters are the largest relatively isolated objects is governed by a gravitational attraction of dark matter and antigravity of dark energy (cosmological constant). We study the characteristic density contrasts in the spherical collapse model for several epochs in the supercluster evolution and their dynamical state. We analysed the density contrasts for the turnaround, future collapse and zero gravity in different LCDM models and applied them to study the dynamical state of the supercluster A2142 with an almost spherical main…
Superclusters are the largest relatively isolated systems in the cosmic web. Using the SDSS BOSS survey we search for the largest superclusters in the redshift range $0.43<z<0.71$. We generate a luminosity-density field smoothed over $8 h^{-1}\mathrm{Mpc}$ to detect the large-scale over-density regions. Each individual over-density region is defined as single supercluster in the survey. We define the superclusters in the way that they are comparable with the superclusters found in the SDSS main survey. We found a system we call the BOSS Great Wall (BGW), which consists of two walls with diamet…
We investigate the evolution of superclusters and supercluster cocoons (basins of attraction), and the influence of cosmological parameters to the evolution. We perform numerical simulations of the evolution of the cosmic web for different cosmological models: the LCDM model with a conventional value of the dark energy (DE) density, the open model OCDM with no DE, the standard SCDM model with no DE, and the Hyper-DE HCDM model with an enhanced DE density value. We find ensembles of superclusters of these models for five evolutionary stages, corresponding to the present epoch z = 0, and to reds…

We study the morphology, luminosity and mass of the superclusters from the BOSS Great Wall (BGW), a recently discovered very rich supercluster complex at the redshift $z = 0.47$. We have employed the Minkowski functionals to quantify supercluster morphology. We calculate supercluster luminosities and masses using two methods. Firstly, we used data about the luminosities and stellar masses of high stellar mass galaxies with $\log(M_*/h^{-1}M_\odot) \geq 11.3$. Secondly, we applied a scaling relation that combines morphological and physical parameters of superclusters to obtain supercluster lumi…
In the cosmic web, galaxy superclusters or their high-density cores are the largest objects that may collapse at present or during the future evolution. We study the dynamical state and possible future evolution of galaxy superclusters from the Sloan Great Wall (SGW), the richest galaxy system in the nearby Universe. We calculated supercluster masses using dynamical masses of galaxy groups and stellar masses of galaxies. We employed normal mixture modelling to study the structure of rich SGW superclusters and search for components (cores) in superclusters. We analysed the radial mass distribut…
The universe region obscured by the Milky Way is very large and only future blind large HI redshift, and targeted peculiar surveys on the outer borders will determine how much mass is hidden there. Meanwhile, we apply for the first time two independent techniques to the galaxy peculiar velocity catalog $CosmicFlows-3$ in order to explore for the kinematic signature of a specific large-scale structure hidden behind this zone : the Vela supercluster at cz $\sim 18,000$,km s$^{-1}$ . Using the gravitational velocity and density contrast fields, we find excellent agreement when comparing our resul…
High-density cores (HDCs) of galaxy superclusters that embed rich clusters and groups of galaxies are the earliest large objects to form in the cosmic web, and the largest objects that may collapse in the present or future. We study the dynamical state and possible evolution of the HDCs in the BOSS Great Wall (BGW) superclusters at redshift $z \approx 0.5$ in order to understand the growth and evolution of structures in the Universe. We derived the density contrast values for the spherical collapse model in a wide range of redshifts and used these values to study the dynamical state and possib…
The CMB lensing signal from cosmic voids and superclusters probes the growth of structure in the low-redshift cosmic web. In this analysis, we cross-correlated the Planck CMB lensing map with voids detected in the Dark Energy Survey Year 3 (Y3) data set ($\sim$5,000 deg$^{2}$), expanding on previous measurements that used Y1 catalogues ($\sim$1,300 deg$^{2}$). Given the increased statistical power compared to Y1 data, we report a $6.6σ$ detection of negative CMB convergence ($κ$) imprints using approximately 3,600 voids detected from a redMaGiC luminous red galaxy sample. However, the measured…
We analyze a set of volume limited samples from the SDSS to study the dependence of galaxy colour on different environments of the cosmic web. We measure the local dimension of galaxies to determine the geometry of their embedding environments and find that filaments host a higher fraction of red galaxies than sheets at each luminosity. We repeat the analysis at a fixed density and recover the same trend which shows that galaxy colours depend on geometry of environments besides local density. At a fixed luminosity, the fraction of red galaxies in filaments and sheets increases with the extent …
We generate probabilistic predictions of the low-redshift ($z < 0.2$) synchrotron Cosmic Web for half of the Northern Sky. In particular, we predict the contribution to the specific intensity function at $ν_\mathrm{obs} = 150\ \mathrm{MHz}$ from merger shocks in clusters and accretion shocks in filaments, both of which arise during large-scale structure formation. We assume a primordial magnetogenesis scenario, but our method is general enough to allow for an exploration of alternative magnetogenesis scenarios - and even alternative radiation mechanisms and spectral windows. In the future, by …

A novel fractal analysis of the cosmic web structure is carried out, employing the Sloan Digital Sky Survey, data release 7. We consider the large-scale stellar mass distribution, unlike other analyses, and determine its multifractal geometry, which is compared with the geometry of the cosmic web generated by cosmological N-body simulations. We find a good concordance, the common features being: (i) a minimum singularity strength equal to one, which corresponds to the edge of diverging gravitational energy and differs from the adhesion model prediction; (ii) a "supercluster set" of relatively …
In this paper we explore the use of spatial clustering algorithms as a new computational approach for modeling the cosmic web. We demonstrate that such algorithms are efficient in terms of computing time needed. We explore three distinct spatial methods which we suitably adjust for (i) detecting the topology of the cosmic web and (ii) categorizing various cosmic structures as voids, walls, clusters and superclusters based on a variety of topological and physical criteria such as the physical distance between objects, their masses and local densities. The methods explored are (1) a new spatial …
The role of the cosmic web in shaping galaxy properties is investigated in the GAMA spectroscopic survey in the redshift range $0.03 \leq z \leq 0.25$. The stellar mass, $u - r$ dust corrected colour and specific star formation rate (sSFR) of galaxies are analysed as a function of their distances to the 3D cosmic web features, such as nodes, filaments and walls, as reconstructed by DisPerSE. Significant mass and type/colour gradients are found for the whole population, with more massive and/or passive galaxies being located closer to the filament and wall than their less massive and/or star-fo…

The intrinsic alignment of galaxy shapes (by means of their angular momentum) and their cross-correlation with the surrounding dark matter tidal field are investigated using the 160 000, z=1.2 synthetic galaxies extracted from the high-resolution cosmological hydrodynamical simulation Horizon-AGN. One- and two-point statistics of the spin of the stellar component are measured as a function of mass and colour. For the low-mass galaxies, this spin is locally aligned with the tidal field `filamentary' direction while, for the high-mass galaxies, it is perpendicular to both filaments and walls. Th…

The intra-cluster and inter-galactic media (ICM, IGM) that pervade the large scale structure of the Universe are known to be magnetised at sub-micro Gauss to micro Gauss levels and to contain cosmic rays (CRs). The acceleration of CRs and their evolution along with that of magnetic fields in these media is still not well understood. Diffuse radio sources of synchrotron origin associated with the ICM such as radio halos, relics and mini-halos are direct probes of the underlying mechanisms of CR acceleration. Observations with radiotelescopes such as the GMRT, the VLA and the WSRT (0.15 - 2 GHz)…

Galaxies exhibit different clustering and quenching properties in clusters, filaments, and the field, but it is still uncertain whether such differences are imprints of the tidal environment on galaxy formation, or if they reflect the variation of the underlying halo mass function across the cosmic web. We measure the dependence of galaxy clustering and quenching on the cosmic web in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey, characterized by the combination of spherical overdensity $δ_8$ and tidal anisotropy $α_5$ centred on each galaxy. We find that galaxy clustering is a strong function of either $δ_8$ …
We investigate whether the satellite luminosity function (LF) of primary galaxies identified in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) depends on whether the host galaxy is in a filament or not. Isolated primary galaxies are identified in the SDSS spectroscopic sample while potential satellites (that are up to 4 magnitudes fainter than their hosts) are searched for in the much deeper photometric sample. Filaments are constructed from the galaxy distribution by the "Bisous" process. Isolated primary galaxies are divided into two subsamples: those in filaments and those not in filaments. We examine…
We employ the hydrodynamical simulation IllustrisTNG-300-1 to explore the halo occupation distribution (HOD) and environmental dependence of luminous star-forming emission-line galaxies (ELGs) at $z \sim 1$. Such galaxies are key targets for current and upcoming cosmological surveys. We select model galaxies through cuts in colour-colour space allowing for a direct comparison with the Extended Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey and the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) surveys and then compare them with galaxies selected based on specific star-formation rate (sSFR) and stellar m…
We analyze the SDSS data to classify the galaxies based on their colour using a fuzzy set-theoretic method and quantify their environments using the local dimension. We find that the fraction of the green galaxies does not depend on the environment and $10\%-20\%$ of the galaxies at each environment are in the green valley depending on the stellar mass range chosen. Approximately $10\%$ of the green galaxies at each environment host an AGN. Combining data from the Galaxy Zoo, we find that $\sim 95\%$ of the green galaxies are spirals and $\sim 5\%$ are ellipticals at each environment. Only $\s…
