We establish the existence of weak solutions $u$ of the semilinear wave equation $\partial_t^2 u-\textrm{div}_x(a(t,x)\nabla_xu)=f_k(u)$ where $a(t,x)$ is equal to $1$ outside a compact set with respect to $x$ and a non-linear term $f_k$ which satisfies $\vert f_k(u)\vert\leq C\vert u\vert^k$. For some non-trapping time-periodic perturbations $a(t,x)$, we obtain the long time existence of solution for small initial data.
A semilinear ordinary differential equation is derived from a semilinear Schrödinger equation in the homogeneous and isotropic spacetime by the Ehrenfest theorem. The Cauchy problem for the equation is considered. Exact solutions and nonexistence of global weak solutions of the equation are also considered in the de Sitter spacetime. The effects of spatial expansion and contraction are studied.
In this paper, we consider the Cauchy problem for semilinear $σ$-evolution models with an exponential decay memory term. Concerning the corresponding linear Cauchy problem, we derive some regularity-loss-type estimates of solutions and generalized diffusion phenomena. Particularly, the obtained estimations for solutions are sharper than those in the previous paper [20]. Then, we determine the critical exponents for the semilinear Cauchy problem with power nonlinearity in some spatial dimensions by proving global (in time) existence of Sobolev solutions with low regularity of fractional orders …
In this paper we show existence of finite energy solutions for the Cauchy problem associated with a semilinear wave equation with interior damping and supercritical source terms. The main contribution consists in dealing with super-supercritical source terms (terms of the order of $|u|^p$ with $p\geq 5$ in $n=3$ dimensions), an open and highly recognized problem in the literature on nonlinear wave equations.
This paper is concerned with the positivity of solutions to the Cauchy problem for linear and nonlinear parabolic equations with the biharmonic operator as fourth order elliptic principal part. Generally, Cauchy problems for parabolic equations of fourth order have no positivity preserving property due to the change of sign of the fundamental solution. One has eventual local positivity for positive initial data, but on short time scales, one will in general have also regions of negativity. The first goal of this paper is to find sufficient conditions on initial data which ensure the existence …
In the first part of the paper we prove various results on regularity of Feynman-Kac functionals of Hunt processes associated with time dependent semi-Dirichlet forms. In the second part we study the Cauchy problem for semilinear parabolic equations with measure data involving operators associated with time-dependent forms. Model examples are non-symmetric divergence form operators and fractional laplacians with possibly variable exponents. We first introduce a definition of a solution resembling Stampacchia's definition in the sense of duality and then, using the results of the first part, we…
We obtain necessary conditions and sufficient conditions on the existence of solutions to the Cauchy problem for a fractional semilinear heat equation with an inhomogeneous term. We identify the strongest spatial singularity of the inhomogeneous term for the solvability of the Cauchy problem.
In the present paper, we prove time decay estimates of solutions in weighted Sobolev spaces to the second order evolution equation with fractional Laplacian and damping for data in Besov spaces. Our estimates generalize the estimates obtained in the previous studies. The second aim of this article is to apply these estimates to prove small data global well-posedness for the Cauchy problem of the equation with power nonlinearities. Especially, the estimates obtained in this paper enable us to treat more general conditions on the nonlinearities and the spatial dimension than the results in the p…
We study the Cauchy problem associated to a family of nonautonomous semilinear equations in the space of bounded and continuous functions over R^d and in L^p-spaces with respect to tight evolution systems of measures. Here, the linear part of the equation is a nonautonomous second-order elliptic operator with unbounded coefficients defined in IxR^d, (I being a right-halfline). To the above Cauchy problem we associate a nonlinear evolution operator, which we study in detail, proving some summability improving properties. We also study the stability of the null solution to the Cauchy problem.
We establish the existence of solutions of the Cauchy problem for a higher-order semilinear parabolic equation by introducing a new majorizing kernel. We also study necessary conditions on the initial data for the existence of local-in-time solutions and identify the strongest singularity of the initial data for the solvability of the Cauchy problem.
We consider the Cauchy problem for systems of semilinear wave equations in two space dimensions. We present a structural condition on the nonlinearity under which the energy decreases to zero as time tends to infinity if the Cauchy data are sufficiently small, smooth and compactly-supported.
In the present paper we prove the blow-up in finite time for local solutions of a semilinear Cauchy problem associated with a wave equation in anti-de Sitter spacetime in the critical case. According to this purpose, we combine an ODI result with an iteration argument, by using an explicit integral representation formula for the solution to a linear Cauchy problem associated with the wave equation in anti-de Sitter spacetime in one space dimension.
Let $(u,v)$ be a solution to a semilinear parabolic system \[ \mbox{(P)} \qquad \begin{cases} \partial_t u=D_1Δu+v^p\quad & \quad\mbox{in}\quad{\bf R}^N\times(0,T),\\ \partial_t v=D_2Δv+u^q\quad & \quad\mbox{in}\quad{\bf R}^N\times(0,T),\\ u,v\ge 0 & \quad\mbox{in}\quad{\bf R}^N\times(0,T),\\ (u(\cdot,0),v(\cdot,0))=(μ,ν) & \quad\mbox{in}\quad{\bf R}^N, \end{cases} \] where $N\ge 1$, $T>0$, $D_1>0$, $D_2>0$, $0<p\le q$ with $pq>1$ and $(μ,ν)$ is a pair of Radon measures or nonnegative measurable functions in ${\bf R}^N$. In this paper we study qualitative properties of the initial trace of the…
We consider the Cauchy-Dirichlet problem for semilinear wave equations in a three space dimensional domain exterior to a bounded and non-trapping obstacle. We obtain a detailed estimate for the lower bound of the lifespan of classical solutions when the size of initial data tends to zero, in a similar spirit to that of the works of John and Hörmander where the Cauchy problem was treated. We show that our estimate is sharp at least for some special case.
We show the existence and the uniqueness of initial traces of nonnegative solutions to a semilinear heat equation on a half space of ${\mathbb R}^N$ under the zero Dirichlet boundary condition. Furthermore, we obtain necessary conditions and sufficient conditions on the initial data for the solvability of the corresponding Cauchy--Dirichlet problem. Our necessary conditions and sufficient conditions are sharp and enable us to find optimal singularities of initial data for the solvability of the Cauchy--Dirichlet problem.
In this paper, we consider the Cauchy problem for the semilinear damped wave equation on the Heisenberg group with power nonlinearity. We prove that the critical exponent is the Fujita exponent $p_{\mathrm{Fuj}}(\mathscr{Q}) = 1+2 / \mathscr{Q}$, where $\mathscr{Q}$ is the homogeneous dimension of the Heisenberg group. On the one hand, we will prove the global existence of small data solutions for $p >p_{\mathrm{Fuj}}(\mathscr{Q})$ in an exponential weighted energy space. On the other hand, a blow-up result for $1 < p \leq p_{\mathrm{Fuj}}(\mathscr{Q})$ under certain integral sign assumptions …
We study the Cauchy problem for a semilinear heat equation with initial data non-rarefied at $\infty$. Our interest lies in the discussion of the effect of the non-rarefied factors on the life span of solutions, and some sharp estimates on the life span is established.
We consider some parabolic equations which are model problems for a variety of nonlinear generalizations to the Black-Scholes equation of mathematical finance. In particular, we prove local well-posedness for the Cauchy problem with initial data in $L^{p}$ spaces.
Our goal is to prove existence results for classical solutions to some general nondegenerate Cauchy problems which are natural generalizations of Isaacs equations. For the latter we are able to extend our results by admitting local conditions for coefficients. Such equations appear naturally for instance in robust control theory. Using our general results, we can solve not only Isaacs equations, but also equations for other sophisticated control problems, for instance models with state dependent constraints on the control set.
We consider the Cauchy problem for the damped wave equations with variable coefficients a(x) having power type nonlinearity |u|^p. We discuss the global existence of solutions for small initial data and investigate the relation between the range of a(x) and the order p.
We prove local in time well-posedness in Sobolev spaces of the Cauchy problem for semi-linear p-evolution equations of the first order with real principal part, but complex valued coefficients for the lower order terms, assuming decay conditions on the imaginary parts as |x| goes to infinity.
In this note, we study the semilinear wave equation with power nonlinearity $|u|^p$ on compact Lie groups. First, we prove a local in time existence result in the energy space via Fourier analysis on compact Lie groups. Then, we prove a blow-up result for the semilinear Cauchy problem for any $p>1$, under suitable sign assumptions for the initial data. Furthermore, sharp lifespan estimates for local (in time) solutions are derived.
We study the Cauchy problem for Schrödinger type stochastic partial differential equations with uniformly bounded coefficients on a curved space. We give conditions on the coefficients, on the drift and diffusion terms, on the Cauchy data, and on the spectral measure associated with the noise, such that the Cauchy problem admits a unique function-valued mild solution in the sense of Da Prato and Zabczyc.
We quantify the uniqueness of continuation from Cauchy or interior data. Our approach consists in extending the existing results in the linear case. As by product we obtain a new stability estimate in the linear case. We also show the so-called strong uniqueness of continuation and the uniqueness of continuation from a set of positive measure. These results are derived by using a linearization procedure.
We consider the Cauchy problem for semilinear parabolic equation in divergence form with obstacle. We show that under natural conditions on the right-hand side of the equation and mild conditions on the obstacle the problem has a unique solution and we provide its stochastic representation in terms of reflected backward stochastic differential equations. We prove also regularity properties and approximation results for solutions of the problem.
Global existence for small data Cauchy problem of semilinear wave equations with scaling invariant damping in 3-D is established in this work, assuming that the data are radial and the constant in front of the damping belongs to $[1.5, 2)$. The proof is based on a weighted $L^2-L^2$ estimate for inhomogeneous wave equation, which is established by interpolating between energy estimate and Morawetz type estimate.
Due to the seminal works of Hochbruck and Ostermann exponential splittings are well established numerical methods utilizing operator semigroup theory for the treatment of semilinear evolution equations whose principal linear part involves a sectorial operator with angle greater than $π/2$ (meaning essentially the holomorphy of the underlying semigroup). The present paper contributes to this subject by relaxing on the sectoriality condition, but in turn requiring that the semigroup operators act consistently on an interpolation couple (or on a scale of Banach spaces). Our conditions (on the sem…
We study the Cauchy problem for the semilinear fractional heat equation $u_{t}=\triangle^{α/2}u+f(u)$ with non-negative initial value $u_{0}\in L^{q}(\mathbb{R}^{n})$ and locally Lipschitz, non-negative source term $f$. For $f$ satisfying the Osgood-type condition $\int_{1}^{\infty}\frac{ds}{f(s)}=\infty$, we show that there exist initial conditions such that the equation has no local solution in $L^{1}_{loc}(\mathbb{R}^{n})$.
In this paper we study the global existence of small data solutions to the Cauchy problem for the semilinear wave equation with scale-invariant damping. We obtain estimates for the solution and its energy with the same decay rate of the linear problem. We extend our results to a model with polynomial speed of propagation and to a model with an exponential speed of propagation.
This paper is concerned about the lifespan estimate to the Cauchy problem of semilinear damped wave equations with the Fujita critical exponent in high dimensions$(n\geq 4)$. We establish the sharp upper bound of the lifespan in the following form \begin{equation}\nonumber\\ \begin{aligned} T(\varepsilon)\leq \exp(C\varepsilon^{-\frac 2n}), \end{aligned} \end{equation} by using the heat kernel as the test function.
We study global uniqueness in an inverse problem for the fractional semilinear Schrödinger equation $(-Δ)^{s}u+q(x,u)=0$ with $s\in (0,1)$. We show that an unknown function $q(x,u)$ can be uniquely determined by the Cauchy data set. In particular, this result holds for any space dimension greater than or equal to $2$. Moreover, we demonstrate the comparison principle and provide a $L^\infty$ estimate for this nonlocal equation under appropriate regularity assumptions.
In this manuscript, in the $L^1$ scaling critical case, a lifespan estimate of solutions to the Cauchy problem for non-gauge invariant semilinear semirelativistic equations is considered. The lifespan estimate is given by the modified test function method with a fractional Laplace operator. The main obstacle to obtaining the lifespan estimate is the non-locality of the fractional Laplace operator. To treat the non-locality, special test functions are introduced.
In this paper, we study the ill-posdness of the Cauchy problem for semilinear wave equation with very low regularity, where the nonlinear term depends on $u$ and $\partial_t u$. We prove a ill-posedness result for the "defocusing" case, and give an alternative proof for the supercritical "focusing" case, which improves our previous result in Chin. Ann. Math. Ser. B 26(3), 361-378, 2005.
We consider a general hyperbolic model of chemotaxis in the multidimensional case. For this system we show the global existence of smooth solutions to the Cauchy problem and we determine their asymptotic behavior. Since this model does not enter in the classical framework of dissipative problems, we analyze it combining the features of the hyperbolic and the parabolic parts and using detailed decay estimates of the Green function.
In this paper, we study the Cauchy problem for the linear and semilinear Moore-Gibson-Thompson (MGT) equation in the dissipative case. Concerning the linear MGT model, by utilizing WKB analysis associated with Fourier analysis, we derive some $L^2$ estimates of solutions, which improve those in the previous research [46]. Furthermore, asymptotic profiles of the solution and an approximate relation in a framework of the weighted $L^1$ space are derived. Next, with the aid of the classical energy method and Hardy's inequality, we get singular limit results for an energy and the solution itself. …
In this paper, we consider the global Cauchy problem for the $L^2$-critical semilinear heat equations $ \partial_t h=Δh\pm |h|^{\frac4d}h, $ with $h(0,x)=h_0$, where $h$ is an unknown real function defined on $ \R^+\times\R^d$. In most of the studies on this subject, the initial data $h_0$ belongs to Lebesgue spaces $L^p(\R^d)$ for some $p\ge 2$ or to subcritical Sobolev space $H^{s}(\R^d)$ with $s>0$. {\it First,} we prove that there exists some positive constant $γ_0$ depending on $d$, such that the Cauchy problem is locally and globally well-posed for any initial data $h_0$ which is radial,…
In this paper we show that there exist two different critical exponents for global small data solutions to the semilinear fractional diffusive equation with Caputo fractional derivative in time. The second critical exponent appears if the second data is assumed to be zero. This peculiarity is related to the fact that the order of the equation is fractional. To prove our result, we first derive Lr-Lq linear estimates for the solution to the inhomogeneous linear Cauchy problem and then we apply a contraction argument.
In this paper we consider the Cauchy problem for the semilinear damped wave equation $u_{tt}-Δu + u_t = h(u);\qquad u(0;x) = f(x); \quad u_t(0;x) = g(x);$ where $h(s) = |s|^{1+2/n}μ(|s|)$. Here n is the space dimension and $μ$ is a modulus of continuity. Our goal is to obtain sharp conditions on $μ$ to obtain a threshold between global (in time) existence of small data solutions (stability of the zerosolution) and blow-up behavior even of small data solutions.
In this paper, we prove some blow-up results for the semilinear wave equation in generalized Einstein-de Sitter spacetime by using an iteration argument and we derive upper bound estimates for the lifespan. In particular, we will focus on the critical cases which require the employment of a slicing procedure in the iterative mechanism. Furthermore, in order to deal with the main critical case, we will introduce a non-autonomous and parameter-dependent Cauchy problem for a linear ODE of second-order, whose explicit solution will be determined by applying the theory of special functions.
We consider the Cauchy problem for semilinear wave equations with variable coefficients and time-dependent scattering damping in $\mathbf{R}^n$, where $n\geq 2$. It is expected that the critical exponent will be Strauss' number $p_0(n)$, which is also the one for semilinear wave equations without damping terms. Lai and Takamura (2018) have obtained the blow-up part, together with the upper bound of lifespan, in the sub-critical case $p<p_0(n)$. In this paper, we extend their results to the critical case $p=p_0(n)$. The proof is based on Wakasa and Yordanov (2018), which concerns the blow-up an…
We consider the initial-boundary value problem of semilinear wave equation with nonlinearity $|u|^p$ in exterior domain in $\mathbf{R}^N$ $(N\geq 3)$. Especially, the lifespan of blowup solutions with small initial data are studied. The result gives upper bounds of lifespan which is essentially the same as the Cauchy problem in $\mathbf{R}^N$. At least in the case $N=4$, their estimates are sharp in view of the work by Zha--Zhou (2015). The idea of the proof is to use special solutions to linear wave equation with Dirichlet boundary condition which are constructed via an argument based on Waka…
The local and global existence of the Cauchy problem for semilinear heat equations with small data is studied in the weighted $L^\infty (\mathbb R^n)$ framework by a simple contraction argument. The contraction argument is based on a weighted uniform control of solutions related with the free solutions and the first iterations for the initial data of negative power.
We prove by using an iteration argument some blow-up results for a semilinear damped wave equation in generalized Einstein-de Sitter spacetime with a time-dependent coefficient for the damping term and power nonlinearity. Then, we conjecture an expression for the critical exponent due to the main blow-up results, which is consistent with many special cases of the considered model and provides a natural generalization of Strauss exponent. In the critical case, we consider a non-autonomous and parameter-dependent Cauchy problem for a linear ODE of second-order, whose explicit solutions are deter…
We study global existence of solutions to the Cauchy problem for the wave equation with time-dependent damping and a power nonlinearity in the overdamping case. We prove the global well-posedness for small data in the energy space for the whole energy-subcritical case. This result implies that small data blow-up does not occur in the overdamping case, different from the other cases, i.e. effective or non-effective damping.
We study for the first time the Cauchy problem for semilinear fractional elliptic equation. This paper is concerned with the Gaussian white noise model for the initial Cauchy data. We establish the ill-posedness of the problem. Then, under some assumption on the exact solution, we propose the Fourier truncation method for stabilizing the ill-posed problem. Some convergence rates between the exact solution and the regularized solution is established in $L^2$ and $H^q$ norms.
