A new class of integrals involving the product of $Ξ$-functions associated with primitive Dirichlet characters is considered. These integrals give rise to transformation formulas of the type $F(z, α,χ)=F(-z, β,\barχ)=F(-z,α,\barχ)=F(z,β,χ)$, where $αβ=1$. New character analogues of transformation formulas of Guinand and Koshliakov as well as those of a formula of Ramanujan and its recent generalization are shown as particular examples. Finally, character analogues of a conjecture of Ramanujan, Hardy and Littlewood involving infinite series of Möbius functions are derived.
An integer $a$ is said to be regular (mod $r$) if there exists an integer $x$ such that $a^2x\equiv a\pmod{r}$. In this paper we introduce an analogue of Ramanujan's sum with respect to regular integers (mod $r$) and show that this analogue possesses properties similar to those of the usual Ramanujan's sum.
In this paper, we prove supercongruence relations for truncated $N$-tuple sums of basic hypergeometric series. As an application, we give double, triple, and quadruple sum analogs of some Ramanujan-type supercongruences.
We derive two new analogues of a transformation formula of Ramanujan involving the Gamma and Riemann zeta functions present in the Lost Notebook. Both involve infinite series consisting of Hurwitz zeta functions and yield modular relations. As a special case of the first formula, we obtain an identity involving polygamma functions given by Andrew P. Guinand and as a limiting case of the second formula, we derive the transformation formula of Ramanujan.
The authors assume the Deep Riemann Hypothesis to prove that a weighted sum of Ramanujan's $τ$-function has a bias to being positive. This phenomenon is an analogue of Chebyshev's bias.
In 'The Lost Notebook and Other Unpublished Papers' of Ramanujan are present some manuscripts of Ramanujan in the handwriting of G. N. Watson which are 'copied from loose papers'. We present a proof of a beautiful formula of Ramanujan in one of these manuscripts, namely a transformation formula involving the Gamma function and Riemann Zeta function. This formula elegantly yields a modular relation. Later we also give another proof of the first equality of this transformation formula along the lines suggested by Andrew P. Guinand.

We establish the Langlands-Shahidi method over a global field of characteristic p. We then focus on the unitary groups and prove global and local Langlands functoriality to general linear groups for generic representations. Main applications are to the Ramanujan Conjecture and Riemann Hypothesis.
Guillera and Zudilin proved three "divergent" Ramanujan-type supercongruences by means of the Wilf-Zeilberger algorithmic technique. In this paper, we prove $q$-analogues of two of them via the $q$-WZ method. Additionally, we give $q$-analogues of two related congruence of Sun, one is confirmed and the other is conjectural.
During his lifetime, Ramanujan provided many formulae relating binomial sums to special values of the Gamma function. Based on numerical computations, Van Hamme recently conjectured $p$-adic analogues to such formulae. Using a combination of ordinary and Gaussian hypergeometric series, we prove one of these conjectures.
Using Ramanujan's identities and the Weierstrass-Enneper representation of minimal surfaces and the analogue for Born-Infeld solitons, we derive further non-trivial identities.
The hypergeometric formulae designed by Ramanujan more than a century ago for efficient approximation of $π$, Archimedes' constant, remain an attractive object of arithmetic study. In this note we discuss some $q$-analogues of Ramanujan-type evaluations and of related supercongruences.
Explicit formulas involving a generalized Ramanujan sum are derived. An analogue of the prime number theorem is obtained and equivalences of the Riemann hypothesis are shown. Finally, explicit formulas of Bartz are generalized.
We give $q$-analogues of the following two Ramanujan-type formulas for $1/π$: \begin{align*} \sum_{k=0}^\infty (6k+1)\frac{(\frac{1}{2})_k^3}{k!^3 4^k} =\frac{4}π \quad\text{and}\quad \sum_{k=0}^\infty (-1)^k(6k+1)\frac{(\frac{1}{2})_k^3}{k!^3 8^k } =\frac{2\sqrt{2}}π. \end{align*} Our proof is based on two $q$-WZ pairs found by the first author in his earlier work.
We provide an historical account of equivalent conditions for the Riemann Hypothesis arising from the work of Ramanujan and, later, Guy Robin on generalized highly composite numbers. The first part of the paper is on the mathematical background of our subject. The second part is on its history, which includes several surprises.
In this short note, we show an analogue of one of Alladi's and Dawsey's formulas with respect to the Ramanujan sum $c_n(m)$ for $m\geq1$. Their formulas may be viewed as the case $m=1$ in our result.
This article considers the eta power $\prod {(1-q^k)}^{b-1}$. It is proved that the coefficients of $\frac{q^n}{n!}$ in this expression, as polynomials in $b$, exhibit equidistribution of the coefficients in the nonzero residue classes mod 5 when $n=5j+4$. Other symmetries, as well as symmetries for other primes and prime powers, are proved, and some open questions are raised.
In this paper, we consider a general form of the analogue of Ramanujan's sum in the ring of polynomials over a finite field. We first prove some multiplicative properties of such functions before considering their finite Fourier series and some specific examples. In the end, we also prove a result about the Dirichlet series of such functions.
Let $\mathbb{A}=\mathbb{F}_{q}[T]$ be the polynomial ring over finite field $\mathbb{F}_{q}$, and $\mathbb{A}_{+}$ be the set of monic polynomials in $\mathbb{A}$. In this paper, we show that a large class of arithmetic functions in multi-variables over $\mathbb{A}_{+}$ can be expanded through the polynomial Ramanujan sums and the unitary polynomial Ramanujan sums. These are analogues of classical results over $\mathbb{N}$ by Winter, Delange and Tóth.
We formulate and prove the analogue of the Ramanujan Conjectures for modular forms of half-integral weight subject to some ramification restriction in the setting of a polynomial ring over a finite field. This is applied to give an effective solution to the problem of representations of elements of the ring by ternary quadratic forms. Our proof develops the theory of half-integral weight forms and Siegel's theta functions in this context as well as the analogue of an explicit Waldspurger formula. As in the case over the rationals, the half-integral weight Ramanujan Conjecture is in this way co…
We present several supercongruences that may be viewed as $p$-adic analogues of Ramanujan-type series for $1/π$ and $1/π^2$, and prove three of these examples.
Ramanujan made many beautiful and elegant discoveries in his short life of 32 years, and one of them that has attracted the attention of several mathematicians over the years is his intriguing formula for $ζ(2n+1)$. To be sure, Ramanujan's formula does not possess the elegance of Euler's formula for $ζ(2n)$, nor does it provide direct arithmetical information. But, one of the goals of this survey is to convince readers that it is indeed a remarkable formula. In particular, we discuss the history of Ramanujan's formula, its connection to modular forms, as well as the remarkable properties of th…
We study the interplay between recurrences for zeta related functions at integer values, `Minor Corner Lattice' Toeplitz determinants and integer composition based sums. Our investigations touch on functional identities due to Ramanujan and Grosswald, the transcendence of the zeta function at odd integer values, the Li Criterion for the Riemann Hypothesis and pseudo-characteristic polynomials for zeta related functions. We begin with a recent result for ζ(2s) and some seemingly new Bernoulli relations, which we use to obtain a generalised Ramanujan polynomial and properties thereof.
We introduce new analogues of the Ramanujan sums, denoted by $\widetilde{c}_q(n)$, associated with unitary divisors, and obtain results concerning the expansions of arithmetic functions of several variables with respect to the sums $\widetilde{c}_q(n)$. We apply these results to certain functions associated with $σ^*(n)$ and $ϕ^*(n)$, representing the unitary sigma function and unitary phi function, respectively.
Using the $q$-Wilf--Zeilberger method and a $q$-analogue of a "divergent" Ramanujan-type supercongruence, we give several $q$-supercongruences modulo the fourth power of a cyclotomic polynomial. One of them is a $q$-analogue of a supercongruence recently proved by Wang: for any prime $p>3$, $$ \sum_{k=0}^{p-1} (3k-1)\frac{(\frac{1}{2})_k (-\frac{1}{2})_k^2 }{k!^3}4^k\equiv p-2p^3 \pmod{p^4}, $$ where $(a)_k=a(a+1)\cdots (a+k-1)$ is the Pochhammer symbol.
We study the Ramanujan-prime-counting function along the lines of Ramanujan's original work on Bertrand's Postulate. We show that the number of Ramanujan primes between x and 2x tends to infinity with x. This analysis leads us to define a new sequence of prime numbers, which we call derived Ramanujan primes. For n greater than or equal to 1 we define the nth derived Ramanujan prime as the smallest positive integer with the property that if x is greater than or equal to the nth derived Ramanujan prime, then the number of Ramanujan primes in the interval from x to x/2 is greater than or equal to…
In the former part of this paper, we give functional equations for Barnes multiple zeta-functions and consider some relevant results. In particular, we show that Ramanujan's classical formula for the Riemann zeta values can be derived from functional equations for Barnes zeta-functions. In the latter half part, we generalize some evaluation formulas of certain series involving hyperbolic functions in terms of Bernoulli polynomials. The original formulas were classically given by Cauchy, Mellin, Ramanujan, and later recovered and formulated by Berndt. From our consideration, we give multiple ve…
In [4] and [5], Folsom presents a family of modular units as higher-level analogues of the Rogers-Ramanujan $q$-continued fraction. These units are constructed from analytic solutions to the higher-order $q$-recurrence equations of Selberg. Here, we consider another family of modular units, which are quotients of Hall-Littlewood $q$-series that appear in the generalized Rogers-Ramanujan type identities of [6]. In analogy with the results of Folsom, we provide a formula for the rank of the subgroup these units generate and show that their specializations at the cusp $0$ generate a subgroup of t…
One of the celebrated formulas of Ramanujan is about odd zeta values, which has been studied by many mathematicians over the years. A notable extension was given by Grosswald in 1972. Following Ramanujan's idea, we rediscovered a Ramanujan-type identity for $ζ(2k+1)$ that was first established by Malurkar and later by Berndt using different techniques. In the current paper, we extend the aforementioned identity of Malurkar and Berndt to derive a new Ramanujan-type identity for $L(2k+1, χ_1)$, where $χ_1$ is the principal character modulo prime $p$. In the process, we encounter a new family of …
A continued fraction $v(τ)$ of Ramanujan is evaluated at certain arguments in the field $K = \mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{-d})$, with $-d \equiv 1$ (mod $8$), in which the ideal $(2) = \wp_2 \wp_2'$ is a product of two prime ideals. These values of $v(τ)$ are shown to generate the inertia field of $\wp_2$ or $\wp_2'$ in an extended ring class field over the field $K$. The conjugates over $\mathbb{Q}$ of these same values, together with $0, -1 \pm \sqrt{2}$, are shown to form the exact set of periodic points of a fixed algebraic function $\hat F(x)$, independent of $d$. These are analogues of similar resul…
We show that for a non-positive value of the first variable,Hurwitz zeta function becomes a polynomial in the second variable. We show this, using 'integration approach', instead of 'power series approach', which we had resorted to, in our earlier paper with the same title. This, in particular, explains why Riemann zeta function at positive even integer arguments, can be evaluated and why it cannot be evaluated explicitly at positive odd integer arguments.
A new class of integrals involving the confluent hypergeometric function ${}_1F_{1}(a;c;z)$ and the Riemann $Ξ$-function is considered. It generalizes a class containing some integrals of S. Ramanujan, G.H. Hardy and W.L. Ferrar and gives as by-products, transformation formulas of the form $F(z,α)=F(iz,β)$, where $αβ=1$. As particular examples, we derive an extended version of the general theta transformation formula and generalizations of certain formulas of Ferrar and Hardy. A one-variable generalization of a well-known identity of Ramanujan is also given. We conclude with a generalization o…
Let $B_{k,i}(n)$ be the number of partitions of $n$ with certain difference condition and let $A_{k,i}(n)$ be the number of partitions of $n$ with certain congruence condition. The Rogers-Ramanujan-Gordon theorem states that $B_{k,i}(n)=A_{k,i}(n)$. Lovejoy obtained an overpartition analogue of the Rogers-Ramanujan-Gordon theorem for the cases $i=1$ and $i=k$. We find an overpartition analogue of the Rogers-Ramanujan-Gordon theorem in the general case. Let $D_{k,i}(n)$ be the number of overpartitions of $n$ satisfying certain difference condition and $C_{k,i}(n)$ be the number of overpartition…
In 1915, Ramanujan proved asymptotic inequalities for the sum of divisors function, assuming the Riemann hypothesis (RH). We consider a strong version of Ramanujan's theorem and define highest abundant numbers that are extreme with respect to the Ramanujan and Robin inequalities. Properties of these numbers are very different depending on whether the RH is true or false.
The generating function of partitions with repeated (resp. distinct) parts such that each odd part is less than twice the smallest part is shown to be the third order mock theta function $ω(q)$ (resp. $ν(-q)$). Similar results for partitions with the corresponding restriction on each even part are also obtained, one of which involves the third order mock theta function $ϕ(q)$. Congruences for the smallest parts functions associated to such partitions are obtained. Two analogues of the partition-theoretic interpretation of Euler's pentagonal theorem are also obtained.
At the 1987 Ramanujan Centenary meeting Dyson asked for a coherent group-theoretical structure for Ramanujan's mock theta functions analogous to Hecke's theory of modular forms. Many of Ramanujan's mock theta functions can be written in terms of $R(ζ,q)$, where $R(z,q)$ is the two-variable generating function of Dyson's rank function and $ζ$ is a root of unity. Building on earlier work of Watson, Zwegers, Gordon and McIntosh, and motivated by Dyson's question, Bringmann, Ono and Rhoades studied transformation properties of $R(ζ,q)$. In this paper we strengthen and extend the results of Bringma…
A Ramanujan-type formula involving the squares of odd zeta values is obtained. The crucial part in obtaining such a result is to conceive the correct analogue of the Eisenstein series involved in Ramanujan's formula for $ζ(2m+1)$. The formula for $ζ^{2}(2m+1)$ is then generalized in two different directions, one, by considering the generalized divisor function $σ_z(n)$, and the other, by studying a more general analogue of the aforementioned Eisenstein series, consisting of one more parameter $N$. A number of important special cases are derived from the first generalization. For example, we ob…
New expressions are given for the Fourier expansions of non-holomorphic Eisenstein series with weight $k$. Among other applications, this leads to non-holomorphic analogs of formulas of Ramanujan, Grosswald and Berndt containing Eichler integrals of holomorphic Eisenstein series.
For $k\geq i\geq 1$, let $B_{k,i}(n)$ denote the number of partitions of $n$ such that part 1 appears at most $i-1$ times, two consecutive integers l and $l+1$ appear at most $k-1$ times and if l and $l+1$ appear exactly $k-1$ times then the total sum of the parts l and $l+1$ is congruent to $i-1$ modulo 2. Let $A_{k,i}(n)$ denote the number of partitions with parts not congruent to $i$, $2k-i$ and $2k$ modulo $2k$. Bressoud's theorem states that $A_{k,i}(n)=B_{k,i}(n)$. Corteel, Lovejoy, and Mallet found an overpartition analogue of Bressoud's theorem for $i=1$, that is, for partitions not co…
For Hurwitz Zeta function,we consider its Taylor series expansion about various points as an analytic function of second variable in appropriate discs. We show that these Taylor are all polynomials in second variable for a non positive integral argument in first variable. On using functionalequations this results in instant evaluation of Riemann Zeta function at positive even integral values of its argument and of Dirichlet L series at positive integral values of its argument, when the argument and the corresponding Dirichlet character are both even or both odd.We also obtain finite sum expressio…
We prove a remarkable formula of Ramanujan for the logarithmic derivative of the gamma function, which converges more rapidly than classical expansions, and which is stated without proof in Ramanujan's notebooks. The formula has a number of very interesting consequences which we derive, including an elegant hyperbolic summation, Ramanujan's formula for the Riemann zeta function evaluated at the odd positive integers, and new formulae for Euler's constant, gamma.
The classical transformation of Jacobi's theta function admits a simple proof by producing an integral representation that yields this invariance apparent. This idea seems to have first appeared in the work of S. Ramanujan. Several examples of this idea have been produced by Koshlyakov, Ferrar, Guinand, Ramanujan and others. A unifying procedure to analyze these examples and natural generalizations is presented.
