It is shown that isotropic cosmology in the Riemann-Cartan spacetime allows to solve the problem of cosmological singularity as well as the problems of invisible matter components - dark energy and dark matter. All cosmological models filled with usual gravitating matter satisfying energy dominance conditions are regular with respect to energy density, spacetime metrics and the Hubble parameter. At asymptotics cosmological solutions of spatially flat models describe accelerating Universe without dark energy and dark matter, and quantitatively their behaviour is identical to that of standard cosmological ΛCDM-model.
I briefly discuss recent results of numerical simulations addressing the generation of a cosmological gravitational wave background produced by turbulence sources in the early universe. Contribution to the 2021 Gravitation session of the 55th Rencontres de Moriond.
Two models are given by crossing the Friedmann metrics with Schwarzschild and Kerr metrics. In these evolving universes with a gravitational source, the force four-vector and the corresponding potentials are evaluated.
In the model of flat expansive homogeneous and isotropic relativistic universe with total zero and local non-zero energy the gravitation energy of bodies and the elecromagnetic energy of charged bodies can be localised.
The model of Expansive Nondecelerative Universe exploiting the Vaidya metrics is used as a tool for unification of gravitation and strong interactions. The proposed approach stems from the capability to localize the energy of gravitational field and enables to reach a certain level in unifying the general theory of relativity and quantum chromodynamics. A relationship between the energy binding quarks and gravitational energy of virtual black holes is rationalized.
A united approach of the large-scale structure of a closed universe and the local spherically symmetric gravitational field is given by supposing an appropriate boundary condition. The general feature of the model obtained are the following. The universe is approximately homogeneous and isotropic on the average on large scale and is expanding at present, as described by the standard model; while locally, the small exterior region of a star started long ago to contract, as expected by the gravitational collapse theory.
It is shown in the article that according to the Relativistic Theory of Gravitation the gravitational field providing slowing down of the time rate nevertheless stops itself this slowing down in strong fields. So a physical tendency of this field to self-restriction of the gravitational potential is demonstrated. This property of the field leads to a stopping of the collapse of massive bodies and to the cyclic evolution of the homogeneous and isotropic Universe.
The paper summarizes the background of Expensive Nondecelerative Universe model and its main consequences for gravitation. Applying the Vaidya metrics, the model allows for the localization and determination of the density and quantity of gravitational energy created by a body with the mass m in the distance r. The consequences are manifested both in a macrosystem (Hawking's phenomenon of black holes evaporation) and microworld phenomenon (far-infrared spectral properties)
New boundary conditions are imposed on the familiar cylindrical gravitational wave vacuum spacetimes. The new spacetime family represents cylindrical waves in a flat expanding (Kasner) universe. Space sections are flat and nonconical where the waves have not reached and wave amplitudes fall off more rapidly than they do in Einstein-Rosen solutions, permitting a more regular null inifinity.
In this paper, we calculate the one-loop quantum cosmological corrections to the kink energy in the closed Friedmann-Robertson-Walker universe in which the fluctuation potential $V^{\prime\prime}$ has a shape invariance property. We use the generalized zeta function regularization method to implement our setup for describing quantum kink-like states. It is conjectured that the corrections lead to the renormalized gravitational constant.
Self-consistent system of nonlinear spinor field and Bianchi I (BI) gravitational one with time dependent gravitational constant ($G$) and cosmological constant ($Λ$) has been studied. The initial and the asymptotic behaviors of the field functions and the metric one have been thoroughly investigated. Given $Λ= Λ_0/τ^2$, with $τ= \sqrt{-g}$, $G$ has been estimated as a function of $τ$. The role of perfect fluid at the initial state of expansion and asymptotical isotropization process of the initailly anisotropic universe has been elucidated.
We present novel analytical solutions for linear-order gravitational waves or tensor perturbations in a flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker universe containing two perfect fluids, radiation and pressureless dust, and allowing for neutrino anisotropic stress. One of the results is applicable to any sub-horizon gravitational wave in such a universe. Another result is applicable to gravitational waves of primordial origin, for example produced during inflation, and works both before and after they cross the horizon. These results improve on analytical approximations previously set out in the literatu…
We study the energy-momentum pseudo-tensor of gravitational wave, and examine the one introduced by Landau-Lifshitz for a general gravitational field and the effective one recently used in literature. In short wavelength limit after Brill-Hartle average, both lead to the same gauge invariant stress tensor of gravitational wave. For relic gravitational waves in the expanding universe, we examine two forms of pressure, $p_{gw}$ and $\mathcal{P}_{gw}$, and trace the origin of their difference to a coupling between gravitational waves and the background matter. The difference is shown to be neglig…
Astronomical observations in the electromagnetic window - microwave, radio and optical - have revealed that most of the Universe is dark. The only reason we know that dark matter exists is because of its gravitational influence on luminous matter. It is plausible that a small fraction of that dark matter is clumped, and strongly gravitating. Such systems are potential sources of gravitational radiation that can be observed with a world-wide network of gravitational wave antennas. Electromagnetic astronomy has also revealed objects and phenomena - supernovae, neutron stars, black holes and the …
The construction of exact linearized solutions to the Einstein equations within the Bondi-Sachs formalism is extended to the case of linearization about de Sitter spacetime. The gravitational wave field measured by distant observers is constructed, leading to a determination of the energy measured by such observers. It is found that gravitational wave energy conservation does not normally apply to inertial observers, but that it can be formulated for a class of accelerated observers, i.e. with worldlines that are timelike but not geodesic.
The variant of quasiclassical (half-quantum) theory of gravity in strong gravitational field is presented. The exact solution of the problem of the renormalized energy-momentum tensor calculation is performed in terms of non-local operator-signed function. The procedure of quasilocalization is proposed, which leads to the equations of non-equilibrium thermodynamics for temperature and curvature. The effects of induced particle creation and media polarization are taking into account and used to solve the problem of non-Einstein's branches damping. The problem of Universe creation from "nothing"…
In this paper, we develop a method based on the analysis of the Kovalewski exponents to study the integrability of anisotropic and homogeneous Universes. The formalism is developed in scalar-tensor gravity, the general relativistic case appearing as a special case of this larger framework. Then, depending on the rationality of the Kovalewski exponents, the different models, both in the vacuum and in presence of a barotropic matter fluid, are classified, and their integrability is discussed.
Both Stefan-Boltzmann law and the Casimir effect, in a universe described by the FRW metric with zero curvature, are calculated. These effects are described by Thermo Field Dynamics (TFD). The gravitational energy-momentum tensor is defined in the context of Teleparallel Equivalent to General Relativity (TEGR). Each of the two effects gives a consistent prediction with what is observed on a cosmological scale. One of the effect establishes a minimum range for the deceleration parameter. While another leads to the conclusion that a possible cosmological constant has a very small order of magnit…
This work is a follow-up to the paper, "Numerical Relativity as a Tool for Studying the Early Universe". In this article, we determine if cosmological gravitational waves can be accurately extracted from a dynamical spacetime using an averaging process as opposed to conventional methods of gravitational wave extraction using a complex Weyl scalar. We calculate the normalized energy density, strain and degree of polarization of gravitational waves produced by a simulated turbulent plasma similar to what was believed to have existed shortly after the electroweak scale. This calculation is comple…
The kinetic energy of a local system of objects placed in a curved spacetime is gained by the subsequent acceleration of the object following the more contracted region of spacetime. Normally this happens near massive gravitating stars. However, the gravitational dipole moment has been shown to be capable of self creating asymmetrically distorted spacetime in its vicinity, therby, capable of being accelerated indefinitely following the successive self created loophole of the spacetime. Localization of this kinetic energy may be possible by designing a system that uses the artificially created …
The dynamics of a universe with an anti-gravitating contribution to the matter content is examined. The modified Friedmann equations are derived, and it is shown that anti-gravitating radiation is the slowest component to dilute when the universe expands. Assuming an interaction between both kinds of matter which becomes important at Planckian densities, it is found that the universe undergoes a periodic cycle of contraction and expansion. Furthermore, the possibility of energy loss in our universe through separation of both types of matter is discussed.
A metric-field approach to gravitation is presented. It is based on an idea of dependency of space-time properties on measuring instruments. Some bimetric equations that realize this idea are considered. They were tested by the binary pulsar PSR1913+16. The spherically - symmetric solution of the equations has no event horizon and no physical singularity in the center. The proper energy of a point particle is finite. There can exist supermassive compact configurations of degenerated Fermi-gas which can be identified with observed objects in galactic centers. The problem of the Universe acceler…
We study the tensorial modes of the two-fluid model, where one of this fluids has an equation of state $p = - ρ/3$ (variable cosmological constant, cosmic string fluid, texture) or $p = - ρ$ (cosmological constant), while the other fluid is an ordinary matter (radiation, stiff matter, incoherent matter). In the first case, it is possible to have a closed Universe whose dynamics can be that of an open Universe providing alternative solutions for the age and horizon problems. This study of the gravitational waves is extended for all values of the effective curvature $k_{eff}=k-\frac{8πG}{3}ρ_{0s…
Incorporation of the Vaidya metric in the model of Expansive Nondecelerative Universe allows to precisely localize gravitational energy for weak fields and obtain the components of the Einstein energy-momentum pseudotensor for strong gravitational fields. The components are identical to those calculated by Virbhadra.
The search for gravitational waves is one of today's major scientific endeavors. A gravitational wave can interact with matter by exciting vibrations of elastic bodies. Earth itself is a large elastic body whose so-called normal-mode oscillations ring up when a gravitational wave passes. Therefore, precise measurement of vibration amplitudes can be used to search for the elusive gravitational-wave signals. Earth's free oscillations that can be observed after high-magnitude earthquakes have been studied extensively with gravimeters and low-frequency seismometers over many decades leading to inv…
The detection and the research of the neutrinos background of Universe are the attractive problems. This problems do not seem the unpromising one in the case of the high neutrinos density of Universe. It is offered to use the low energy neutrinos background of Universe for the explanation of the gravitational phenomena with the quantum position attracting the Casimir's effect for this. As a result it can consider the normal matter (not neutrinos) in the capasity of the Brownian particles by the help of which it can make the attempt to estimate the statistic characteristics of the Universe neut…
In this paper a hypothesis is considered, in which neutrinos and other weakly interacting particles play a fundamental role in Universe. In addition the Newton gravitational constant $G_N$ and the Hubble constant $H$ are interpreted as parameters, characterizing the neutrinos background of Universe.
Here, cosmology is obtained from the variable gravitational constant $ G \propto ϕ^{-2}$ with $ ϕ(x) $ being a scalar and its fluctuations around the ground state. The gravitational action contains Einstein-Hilbert like term with variable $ G $, kinetic energy and self-interaction potential for $ ϕ(x) $. Two phase transitions take place in this model. The first one takes place at the GUT (grand unified theory) scale $ \sim 2.45 \times 10^{14}{\rm GeV} $, when the early universe exits the inflationay phase and the second one at the electro-weak scale. Spontaneous symmetry breaking takes place a…
The analysis of the data from the distant supernovae (A.Riess et al, Astron.J. {\bf 116}, 1009, (1988)) for acceleration of the expending Universe from the viewpoint of the gravitation equations proposed by one of the authors (Phys.Lett. {\bf 156}, 404 (1991)) is given. It is shown that the result from the above data that the deceleration parameter $q_{0}$ is negative is a natural consequence of the property of the gravitation force which follows from the above gravitation equations . It is an alternative explanation to general relativity where a nonzero cosmological constant is used to explai…
The problem of cosmological particle creation for a spatially flat, homogeneous and isotropic Universes is discussed in the context of f(R) theories of gravity. Different from cosmological models based on general relativity theory, it is found that a conformal invariant metric does not forbid the creation of massless particles during the early stages (radiation era) of the Universe.
Since the discovery of the large angular scale anisotropies in the microwave background radiation, the behaviour of cosmological perturbations (especially, density perturbations and gravitational waves) has been of great interest. In this study, after a detailed and rigorous treatment of the behaviour of gravitational waves in viscous cosmic media, we conclude that the damping of cosmological gravitational waves of long wavelengths is negligible for most cases of physical interest. A preliminary analysis suggests that similar results hold for density perturbations in the long wavelength limit.…
The effects of the gravitational back reaction of cosmological perturbations are investigated in a phantom inflation model. The effective energy-momentum tensor of the gravitational back reaction of cosmological perturbations whose wavelengths are larger than the Hubble radius is calculated. Our results show that the effects of gravitational back reaction will counteract that of the phantom energy. It is demonstrated in a chaotic phantom inflation model that if the phantom field at the end of inflation is larger than a critical value determined by the necessary e-folds, the phantom inflation p…
We look at a gas of dust and investigate how its entropy evolves with time under a spherically symmetric gravitational collapse. We treat the problem perturbatively and find that the classical thermodynamic entropy does actually increase to first order when one allows for gravitational potential energy to be transferred to thermal energy during the collapse. Thus, in this situation there is no need to resort to the introduction of an intrinsic gravitational entropy in order to satisfy the second law of thermodynamics.
The problem of explaining the acceleration of the expansion of the universe and the observational and theoretical difficulties associated with dark matter and dark energy are discussed. The possibility that GR does not correctly describe the large-scale structure of the universe is considered and an alternative gravity theory is proposed as a possible resolution to the problems.
The gravitational entropy and no-hair conjectures seems to predict contradictory future states of our Universe. The growth of the gravitational entropy is associated with the growth of inhomogeneity, while the no-hair conjecture argues that a universe dominated by dark energy should asymptotically approach a homogeneous and isotropic de Sitter state. The aim of this paper is to study these two conjectures. The investigation is based on the Simsilun simulation, which simulates the universe using the approximation of the Silent Universe. The Silent Universe is a solution to the Einstein equation…
A scenario for gravitational particle creation in a stiff matter dominated flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker universe is presented. The primary creation of scalar particles is calculated using quantum field theory in curved spacetime and it is found to be strongly dependent on the scalar mass and the expansion parameter of the universe. The particle creation is most effective for a very massive scalar field and large expansion parameter. We apply the results to cosmology and calculate an upper bound for the equilibrium temperature of the secondary particles created by the scalar field decay.
We make a first principle study of gravitational pressure in cosmic thermodynamics. The pressure is directly derived from the unified first law, in fact the Einstein field equation in spherically symmetric spacetime. By using this pressure, we obtain the thermodynamics for the FRW universe, especially presenting the gravitational equation of state for the FRW spacetime itself, i.e. $P=P(R_A, T)$ for the first time. Furthermore, we study the Joule-Thomson expansion as an application of the thermodynamic equation of state to find the cooling-heating property of the FRW universe. We demonstrate t…
We discuss how different cosmological models of the Universe affect the probability that a background source has multiple images related by an angular distance $θ_E$ of the line of sight, \textit{i. e.}, the optical depth of gravitational lensing. We examine some cosmological models for different values of the density parameter $Ω_i$: i) the cold dark matter model, ii) the $Λ$CDM model, iii) the Bose-Einstein condensate dark matter model, iv) the Chaplygin gas model, v) the viscous fluid cosmological model and vi) the holographic dark energy model. We note that the dependence of the energy-mat…
Due to Lorentz invariance of General Relativity gravitational interaction is limited to the speed of light. Thus for particles, moving within a matter field, retardation leads to loss of energy by emission of gravitational radiation. This 'gravitomagnetic' effect, applied to motion in homogeneous mass filled space, acts like a viscous force, slowing down every motion in the universe on the Hubble time scale. The energy loss rate exactly equals the red shift of photons in an expanding universe, thus showing the equivalence of wavelength stretching in the wave picture and energy loss in the phot…
The aim of this contribution is to provide a short introduction to recently investigated models in which our accessible universe is a four-dimensional submanifold, or brane, embedded in a higher dimensional spacetime and ordinary matter is trapped in the brane. I focus here on the gravitational and cosmological aspects of such models with a single extra-dimension.
We consider the dynamics of tensor and scalar gravitational fields in the Relativistic Theory of Gravitation with the Minkowskian vacuum metric and generalize the formulation to the massless graviton. The potential of scalar field is determined in the presence of cosmological term under clear physical motivations. We find cosmological inflationary solutions and analyze conditions providing the transition to the regime of hot expanding universe.
In the context of the Teleparallel Equivalent of General Relativity (TEGR) one can obtain an alternative insight into General Relativity, as has been shown in addressing properties as energy, momentum and angular momentum of the gravitational field. In this paper, we apply the definition, that arises from the field equation of the the TEGR, for the stress-energy-momentum tensor of the gravitational field, whose spatial components naturally lead to the definition of gravitational pressure, to compute the total space-time pressure, due to the gravitational and matter fields, over a spherical, sp…
We investigate main properties and mutual relations of the so-called A and B-metrics with any value of the cosmological constant. In particular, we explicitly show that both the AII and BI-metrics are, in fact, the famous Schwarzschild-(anti-)de Sitter spacetime (that is the AI-metric) boosted to superluminal speed. Together they form the complete gravitational field of a tachyon in Minkowski or (anti-)de Sitter universe. The boundary separating the AII and BI regions is the Mach-Cherenkov shockwave on which the curvature is unbounded. We analyze various geometric features of such spacetimes, …
We discuss the potential cosmological role of gravitational wave astronomy as a probe of the very early universe. The next generation of detectors - now in production - may be able to observe a stochastic background of gravitational waves produced by violent processes during the earliest moments after the creation of the universe. Viable theoretical scenarios within detector sensitivity include strongly first-order phase transitions, possibly at the end of inflation, and networks of cosmic strings. At this stage, other primordial backgrounds from slow-roll inflation, global topological defects…
This paper studies intermediate homogenization of inhomogeneous cosmological models. It shows that spherically symmetric models, regardless of the equation of state, can undergo intermediate homogenization, i.e. a model can approach a homogeneous and isotropic state (which acts as a saddle point) from a relatively wide range of initial inhomogeneous conditions. The homogenization is not permanent - just temporary. Eventually the model evolves toward a future inhomogeneous state. We also looked at the problem of the gravitational entropy. All definitions of entropy that we checked give decreasi…
In this work, a flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) universe with dust and a cosmological constant is quantized. By means of a canonical transformation, the classical Hamiltonian is reduced to that of either a harmonic oscillator or anti-oscillator, depending on whether $Λ<0$ or $Λ>0$, respectively. In this way exact solutions to the Wheeler-DeWitt equation can easily be obtained. It turns out that a positive cosmological constant alone may account for an early inflationary regime and a later accelerated expansion phase, with a period of decelerated expansion in between. This suggests that q…
With a basic varying space-time cutoff $\tilde\ell$, we study a regularized and quantized Einstein-Cartan gravitational field theory and its domains of ultraviolet-unstable fixed point $g_{\rm ir}\gtrsim 0$ and ultraviolet-stable fixed point $g_{\rm uv}\approx 4/3$ of the gravitational gauge coupling $g=(4/3)G/G_{\rm Newton}$. Because the fundamental operators of quantum gravitational field theory are dimension-2 area operators, the cosmological constant is inversely proportional to the squared correlation length $Λ\propto ξ^{-2}$. The correlation length $ξ$ characterizes an infrared size of a…
Recent theoretical developments have generated a strong interest in the ``brane-world'' picture, which assumes that ordinary matter is trapped in a three-dimensional submanifold, usually called brane, embedded in a higher dimensional space. The purpose of this review is to introduce some basic results concerning gravity in these models and then to present various aspects of the cosmology in a brane-universe.
We consider a modified gravity model with a massive graviton, but which nevertheless only propagates two gravitational degrees of freedom and which is free of ghosts. We show that non-singular bouncing cosmological background solutions can be generated. In addition, the mass term for the graviton prevents anisotropies from blowing up in the contracting phase and also suppresses the spectrum of gravitational waves compared to that of the scalar cosmological perturbations. This addresses two of the main problems of the matter bounce scenario.
In the scalar-tensor theory of gravitation it seems nontrivial to establish if solutions of the cosmological equations in the presence of a cosmological constant behave as attractors independently of the initial values. We develop a general formulation in terms of two-dimensional phase space. We show that there are two kinds of fixed points, one of which is an attractor depending on the coupling constant and equation of state. In the case with a power-law potential in the Jordan frame, we also find new type of inflation caused by the coupling to the matter fluid.
By revising the application of the open quantum system approach to the early universe and extending it to the conditions beyond the Markovian approximation, we obtain a new non-Markovian quantum Boltzmann equation. Throughout the paper, we also develop an extension of the quantum Boltzmann equation to describe the processes that are irreversible at the macroscopic level. This new kinetic equation is, in principle, applicable to a wide variety of processes in the early universe. For instance, using this equation one can accurately study the microscopic influence of a cosmic environment on a sys…
Oppenheimer and Snyder found in 1939 that gravitational collapse in vacuum produces a "frozen star", i.e., the collapsing matter only asymptotically approaches the gravitational radius (event horizon) of the mass, but never crosses it within a finite time for an external observer. Based upon our recent publication on the problem of gravitational collapse in the physical universe for an external observer, the following results are reported here: (1) Matter can indeed fall across the event horizon within a finite time and thus BHs, rather than "frozen stars", are formed in gravitational collapse…
We derive the primordial power spectra and spectral indexes of the density fluctuations and gravitational waves in the framework of loop quantum cosmology (LQC) with holonomy and inverse-volume corrections, by using the uniform asymptotic approximation method to its third-order, at which the upper error bounds are $\lesssim 0.15\%$, and accurate enough for the current and forthcoming cosmological observations. Then, using the Planck, BAO and SN data we obtain the tightest constraints on quantum gravitational effects from LQC corrections, and find that such effects could be well within the dete…
