A solution of the Bohr Hamiltonian appropriate for triaxial shapes, involving a Davidson potential in beta and a steep harmonic oscillator in gamma, centered around gamma=30 degrees, is developed. Analytical expressions for spectra and B(E2) transition rates ranging from a triaxial vibrator to the rigid triaxial rotator are obtained and compared to experiment. Using a variational procedure it is pointed out that the Z(5) solution, in which an infinite square well potential in beta is used, corresponds to the critical point of the shape phase transition from a triaxial vibrator to the rigid triaxial rotator.
A gamma-rigid solution of the Bohr Hamiltonian is derived for gamma=0 utilizing the Davidson potential in the beta variable. This solution is going to be called X(3)-D. The energy eigenvalues and wave functions are obtained by using an analytic method which has been developed by Nikiforov and Uvarov. BE(2) transition rates are calculated. A variational procedure is applied to energy ratios to determine whether or not the X(3) model is located at the critical point between spherical and deformed nuclei.
An exactly separable version of the Bohr Hamiltonian is developed using a potential of the form u(beta)+u(gamma)/beta^2, with the Davidson potential u(beta)= beta^2 + beta_0^4/beta^2 (where beta_0 is the position of the minimum) and a stiff harmonic oscillator for u(gamma) centered at gamma=0. In the resulting solution, called exactly separable Davidson (ES-D), the ground state band, gamma band and 0_2^+ band are all treated on an equal footing. The bandheads, energy spacings within bands, and a number of interband and intraband B(E2) transition rates are well reproduced for almost all well-de…
Detailed quantitative predictions are obtained for phonon and multiphonon excitations in well-deformed rotor nuclei within the geometric framework, by exact numerical diagonalization of the Bohr Hamiltonian in an SO(5) basis. Dynamical gamma deformation is found to significantly influence the predictions through its coupling to the rotational motion. Basic signatures for the onset of rigid triaxial deformation are also obtained.
Analytical expressions for spectra and wave functions are derived for a Bohr Hamiltonian, describing the collective motion of deformed nuclei, in which the mass is allowed to depend on the nuclear deformation. Solutions are obtained for separable potentials consisting of a Davidson potential in the beta variable, in the cases of gamma-unstable nuclei, axially symmetric prolate deformed nuclei, and triaxial nuclei, implementing the usual approximations in each case. The solution, called the Deformation Dependent Mass (DDM) Davidson model, is achieved by using techniques of supersymmetric quantu…

The Bohr Hamiltonian describing the collective motion of atomic nuclei is modified by allowing the mass to depend on the nuclear deformation. Exact analytical expressions are derived for spectra and wave functions in the case of a gamma-unstable Davidson potential, using techniques of supersymmetric quantum mechanics. Numerical results in the Xe-Ba region are discussed.
The triaxial nature of low-lying rotational bands of $^{166}$Er is presented from the viewpoint of the Bohr Hamiltonian and from that of many-fermion calculations by the Monte Carlo shell model and the constrained Hartree-Fock method with projections. A recently proposed novel picture of those bands suggests definite triaxial shapes of those bands, in contrast to the traditional view with the prolate ground-state band and the $γ$-vibrational excited band. Excitation level energies and E2 transitions can be described well by the Bohr Hamiltonian and by the many-fermion approaches, where rather …
The Bohr-Mottelson model is solved for a generic soft triaxial nucleus, separating the Bohr hamiltonian exactly and using a number of different model-potentials: a displaced harmonic oscillator in $γ$, which is solved with an approximated algebraic technique, and Coulomb/Kratzer, harmonic/Davidson and infinite square well potentials in $β$, which are solved exactly. In each case we derive analytic expressions for the eigenenergies which are then used to calculate energy spectra. Here we study the chain of osmium isotopes and we compare our results with experimental information and previous cal…
Davidson potentials of the form $β^2 +β_0^4/β^2$, when used in the original Bohr Hamiltonian for $γ$-independent potentials bridge the U(5) and O(6) symmetries. Using a variational procedure, we determine for each value of angular momentum $L$ the value of $β_0$ at which the derivative of the energy ratio $R_L=E(L)/E(2)$ with respect to $β_0$ has a sharp maximum, the collection of $R_L$ values at these points forming a band which practically coincides with the ground state band of the E(5) model, corresponding to the critical point in the shape phase transition from U(5) to O(6). The same pote…
The following special solutions of the Bohr Hamiltonian are briefly described: 1) Z(5) (approximately separable solution in five dimensions with gamma close to 30 degrees), 2) Z(4) (exactly separable gamma-rigid solution in four dimensions with gamma = 30 degrees), 3) X(3) (exactly separable gamma-rigid solution in three dimensions with gamma =0). The analytical solutions obtained using Davidson potentials in the E(5), X(5), Z(5), and Z(4) frameworks are also mentioned.
The moment of inertia of even-even deformed nuclei which are derived on the basis of hydrodynamical model yield values that are too small compared with the experimental [Davidson 1965] ones. We expect that these contradictions come from the consideration only the first term in $R$- expansion in spite of not containing parameters indicating deformity of the nucleus, and neglecting all other terms which include the deformation parameters $αλμ$. In this work, the first three terms in $R$- expansion are taken into account. The results are more realistic and too much better the previous ones.
The collective Bohr hamiltonian is solved for the soft triaxial rotor around $γ_0=π/6$ with a displaced harmonic oscillator potential in $γ$ and a Kratzer-like potential in $β$. The properties of the spectrum are outlined and a generalization for the more general triaxial case with $0<γ<π/6$ is proposed.
Analytical solutions of the Bohr Hamiltonian are obtained in the $γ$-unstable case, as well as in an exactly separable rotational case with $γ\approx 0$, called the exactly separable Morse (ES-M) solution. Closed expressions for the energy eigenvalues are obtained through the Asymptotic Iteration Method (AIM), the effectiveness of which is demonstrated by solving the relevant Bohr equations for the Davidson and Kratzer potentials. All medium mass and heavy nuclei with known $β_1$ and $γ_1$ bandheads have been fitted by using the two-parameter $γ$-unstable solution for transitional nuclei and t…

Dynamical gamma deformation is found to significantly influence the predictions through its coupling to the rotational motion. Basic signatures for the onset of rigid triaxial deformation are obtained.
In this paper, we present an analytical solution for the Bohr Hamiltonian with the trigonometric Pöschl Teller (P.T) potential in the cases of γ unstable nuclei and γ stable axially symmetric prolate deformed ones with γ = 0. The energy spectra and corresponding wave functions are derived by means of the asymptotic iteration method. In addition, B(E2) transition rates are calculated and compared with experimental data. Overall good agreement is obtained for inter and intra band transitions within ground state and \b{eta} bands. Our numerical results, particularly for transition rates are much …
In this work, we derive a closed solution of the Shr$ \ddot{o} $dinger equation for Bohr Hamiltonien within the minimal length formalism. This formalism is inspired by Heisenberg algebra and a generlized uncertainty principle (GUP), applied to the geometrical collective Bohr- Mottelson model (BMM) of nuclei by means of deformed canonical commutation relation and the Pauli-Podolsky prescription. The problem is solved by means conjointly of asymptotic iteration method (AIM) and a quantum perturbation method (QPM) for transitional nuclei near the critical point symmetry Z(4) corresponding to phas…
A solution of the Bohr collective hamiltonian for the $β-$soft, $γ-$soft triaxial rotor with $γ\sim π/6$ is presented making use of a harmonic potential in $γ$ and Coulomb-like and Kratzer-like potentials in $β$. It is shown that, while the $γ-$angular part in the present case gives rise to a straightforward extension of the rigid triaxial rotor energy in which an additive harmonic term appears, the inclusion of the $β$ part results instead in a non-trivial expression for the spectrum. The negative anharmonicities of the energy levels with respect to a simple rigid model are in qualitative agr…
The Deformation Dependent Mass (DDM) Kratzer model is constructed by considering the Kratzer potential in a Bohr Hamiltonian, in which the mass is allowed to depend on the nuclear deformation, and solving it by using techniques of supersymmetric quantum mechanics (SUSYQM), involving a deformed shape invariance condition. Analytical expressions for spectra and wave functions are derived for separable potentials in the cases of gamma-unstable nuclei, axially symmetric prolate deformed nuclei, and triaxial nuclei, implementing the usual approximations in each case. Spectra and B(E2) transition ra…
Experimental data indicate that the mass tensor of collective Bohr Hamiltonian cannot be considered as a constant but should be considered as a function of the collective coordinates. In this work our purpose is to investigate the properties of low-lying collective states of the odd nuclei $^{173}$Yb and $^{163}$Dy by using a new generalized version of the collective quadrupole Bohr Hamiltonian with deformation-dependent mass coefficients. The proposed new version of the Bohr Hamiltonian is solved for Davidson potential in $β$ shape variable, while the $γ$ potential is taken to be equal to the…
We present a computer program which solves the Schrodinger equation of the stationary states for an average nuclear potential of Woods-Saxon type. In this work, we take specifically into account triaxial (i.e. ellipsoidal) nuclear surfaces. The deformation is specified by the usual Bohr parameters. The calculations are carried out in two stages. In the first, one calculates the representative matrix of the Hamiltonian in the cartesian oscillator basis. In the second stage one diagonalizes this matrix with the help of subroutines of the EISPACK library. If it is wished, one can calculate all ei…

The variants of the microscopic Bohr Hamiltonian derived by means of the Adiabatic Time Dependent Mean Field theory from the Pairing plus Quadrupole-Quadrupole interaction, the Shell Correction Method, the Skyrme Energy Density Functional, the Relativistic Mean Field Theory, and the Gogny interaction are discussed and applications to concrete nuclides reviewed. The Generator Coordinate Method for the five dimensional quadrupole deformati…
Based on the minimal length concept, inspired by Heisenberg algebra, a closed analytical formula is derived for the energy spectrum of the prolate γ-rigid Bohr-Mottelson Hamiltonian of nuclei, within a quantum perturbation method (QPM), by considering a scaled Davidson potential in \b{eta} shape variable. In the resulting solution, called X(3)-D-ML, the ground state and the first \b{eta}-band are all studied as a function of the free parameters. The fact of introducing the minimal length concept with a QPM makes the model very flexible and a powerful approach to describe nuclear collective exc…
The Bohr hamiltonian, also called collective hamiltonian, is one of the cornerstone of nuclear physics and a wealth of solutions (analytic or approximated) of the associated eigenvalue equation have been proposed over more than half a century (confining ourselves to the quadrupole degree of freedom). Each particular solution is associated with a peculiar form for the $V(β,γ)$ potential. The large number and the different details of the mathematical derivation of these solutions, as well as their increased and renewed importance for nuclear structure and spectroscopy, demand a thorough discussi…
Recently, a variant of the Bohr Hamiltonian was proposed where the mass term is allowed to depend on the beta variable of nuclear deformation. Analytic solutions of this modified Hamiltonian have been obtained using the Davidson and the Kratzer potentials, by employing techniques from supersymmetric quantum mechanics. Apart from the new set of analytic solutions, the newly introduced Deformation-Dependent Mass (DDM) model offered a remedy to the problematic behaviour of the moment of inertia in the Bohr Hamiltonian, where it appears to increase proportionally to the square of beta. In the DDM …
Motivation : Several theoretical comparisons with experimental data have recently pointed out that the mass tensor of the collective Bohr Hamiltonian cannot be considered as a constant and should be taken as a function of the collective coordinates. Method : The Davydov-Chaban Hamiltonian, describing the collective motion of γ-rigid atomic nuclei, is modified by allowing the mass to depend on the nuclear deformation. Moreover, the eigenvalue problem for this Hamiltonian is solved for Davidson potential and γ = 30° involving an Asymptotic Iteration Method (AIM). The present model is conventiona…
The concept of minimal length, inspired by Heisenberg algebra, is applied to the geometrical collective Bohr- Mottelson model (BMM) of nuclei. With the deformed canonical commutation relation and the Pauli-Podolsky prescription, we have derived the quantized Hamiltonian operator for triaxial nuclei as we have previously done for axial prolate $γ$-rigid ones (M. Chabab et al., Phys. Lett. B 758 (2016) 212-218). By considering an infinite square well like potential in $β$ collective shape variable, the eigenvalues of the Hamiltonian are obtained in terms of zeros of Bessel functions of irrationa…
A systematic study of $γ$-bands observed in atomic nuclei is performed using the triaxial projected shell model (TPSM) approach. The staggering phase between the even and odd spin members of the $γ$-band for most the nuclei investigated in the present work is found to have even-I-below-odd-I, which in the framework of the collective model is considered as a signature of $γ$-softness. It is observed that out of twenty-three systems studied, only four nuclei, namely, $^{76}$Ge, $^{112}$Ru, $^{170}$Er and $^{232}$Th depict staggering phase with odd-I-below-even-I, which is regarded as an indicati…
A microscopic quantum ideal rotor-model intrinsic Hamiltonian for triaxial rotation is derived from the nuclear Schrodinger equation by applying a rotation operator to a deformed nuclear ground state. This Hamiltonian is obtained only when a rigid-flow prescription is used for the three rotation angles in the rotation operator. Using Hartree-Fock variational and second quantization methods, the rotor Hamiltonian is transformed into that of a self-consistent triaxial cranking model (MSCRM-3) with a self-consistent angular-velocity vector, plus residual terms associated with the square of the an…
An exactly separable version of the Bohr Hamiltonian which combines the $γ$-stable and $γ$-rigid axial vibration-rotation is used to describe the collective properties of few neutron rich transitional nuclei. The coupling between the two types of collective motion is managed through a rigidity parameter which also influences the geometry of the shape-phase space. While the $γ$-angular part of the problem associated to axially symmetric shapes is treated within the small angles approximation and the stiff $γ$ oscillation hypothesis, the $β$ vibration is described by means of a Davidson potentia…

In this paper, we present a theoretical study of a conjonction of $γ$-rigid and $γ$-stable collective motions in critical point symmetries of the phase transitions from spherical to deformed shapes of nuclei using exactly separable version of the Bohr Hamiltonian with deformation-dependent mass term. The deformation-dependent mass is applied simultaneously to $γ$-rigid and $γ$-stable parts of this famous collective Hamiltonian. Moreover, the $β$ part of the problem is described by means of Davidson potential, while the $γ$-angular part corresponding to axially symmetric shapes is treated by a …
The eigenvalue equation associated to the Bohr-Mottelson Hamiltonian is considered in the intrinsic reference frame and amended by replacing the harmonic oscillator potential in the $β$ variable with a sextic oscillator potential with centrifugal barrier plus a periodic potential for the $γ$ variable. After the separation of variables, the $β$ equation is quasi-exactly solved, while the solutions for the $γ$ equation are just the angular spheroidal functions. An anharmonic transition operator is used to determine the reduced E2 transition probabilities. The formalism is conventionally called t…
Critical Point Symmetries (CPS) appear in regions of the nuclear chart where a rapid change from one symmetry to another is observed. The first CPSs, introduced by F. Iachello, were E(5), which corresponds to the transition from vibrational [U(5)] to gamma-unstable [O(6)] behaviour, and X(5), which represents the change from vibrational [U(5)] to prolate axially deformed [SU(3)] shapes. These CPSs have been obtained as special solutions of the Bohr collective Hamiltonian. More recent special solutions of the same Hamiltonian, to be described here, include Z(5) and Z(4), which correspond to max…
