Recent theoretical developments of hadrons in nuclei are briefly reviewed in the aspect of chiral symmetry in nuclei. We show a general sum rule connecting in-medium hadronic quantities and quark condensate, emphasizing that both pionic mode and particle-hole excitations in the nuclear medium are responsible for reduction of the chiral condensate in nuclear matter. We also discuss that few-body nuclear systems with kaons are good objects to investigate basic features of kaon-nucleus interactions, showing recent understandings of the structure of Lambda(1405) and possible bound states of KbarNN and KKbarN. We also mention eta mesonic nuclei in connection with chiral symmetry of baryons.
We analyze the restoration pattern of the members of the scalar and pseudoscalar meson nonets under chiral $O(4)$ and $U(1)_A$ symmetries. For that purpose, we exploit QCD Ward Identities (WI), which allow one to relate susceptibilities with quark condensates, as well as susceptibility differences with meson vertices. In addition, we consider the low-energy realization of QCD provided by $U(3)$ Chiral Perturbation Theory (ChPT) at finite temperature to perform a full analysis of the different correlators involved. Our analysis suggests $U(1)_A$ partner restoration if chiral symmetry partners a…
An alternative approach to symmetry restoration within Energy Density Functional, the Symmetry-Conserving EDF is discussed. In this approach, the energy is directly written in terms of the degrees of freedom encoded in the one-, two-... body density matrices of the state having good quantum numbers. The SC-EDF framework is illustrated within Projection After and Before variation applied to particle number restoration.
An asymptotic restoration procedure is applied for analyzing bound--state overlap functions, separation energies and single--nucleon spectroscopic factors by means of a model one--body density matrix emerging from the Jastrow correlation method in its lowest order approximation for $^{16}O$ and $^{40}Ca$ nuclei . Comparison is made with available experimental data and mean--field and natural orbital representation results.
Energies of the giant Gamow-Teller and analog resonances - $E_{\rm G}$ and $E_{\rm A}$, are presented, calculated using the microscopic theory of finite Fermi system. The calculated differences $ΔE_{\rm G-A}=E_{\rm G}-E_{\rm A}$ go to zero in heavier nuclei indicating the restoration of Wigner SU(4)-symmetry. The calculated $ΔE_{\rm G-A}$ values are in good agreement with the experimental data. The average deviation is 0.30 MeV for the 33 considered nuclei for which experimental data is available. The $ΔE_{\rm G-A}$ values were calculated for heavy and superheavy nuclei up to the mass number $…
Recent topics on mesons in nuclei are discussed by especially emphasizing the role of the partial restoration of chiral symmetry in the nuclear medium. The spontaneously broken chiral symmetry in vacuum is considered to be incompletely restored in finite nuclear density systems with moderate reduction of the magnitude of the quark condensate. On the partial restoration of chiral symmetry, the wave function renormalization is important to be taken into account for the Nambu-Goldstone bosons. We also discuss the possible change of the meson properties in the nuclear medium and meson-nucleus syst…
In these proceedings, we report first results for particle-number and angular-momentum projection of self-consistently blocked triaxial one-quasiparticle HFB states for the description of odd-A nuclei in the context of regularized multi-reference energy density functionals, using the entire model space of occupied single-particle states. The SIII parameterization of the Skyrme energy functional and a volume-type pairing interaction are used.
We study the nuclear modification of the scalar QCD susceptibility, calculated as the derivative of the quark condensate with respect to the quark mass. We show that it has two origins. One is the low lying nuclear excitations. At normal nuclear density this part is constrained by the nuclear incompressibility. The other part arises from the individual nucleon response and it is dominated by the pion cloud contribution. Numerically the first contribution dominates. The resulting increase in magnitude of the scalar susceptibility at normal density is such that it becomes close to the pseudoscal…
We present and analyze a new set of Ward Identities which shed light on the distinction between different patterns of chiral symmetry restoration in QCD, namely $O(4)$ vs $O(4)\times U(1)_A$. The degeneracy of chiral partners for all scalar and pseudoscalar meson nonet members are studied through their corresponding correlators. Around chiral symmetry degeneration of $O(4)$ partners, our analysis predicts that $U(1)_A$ partners are also degenerated. Our analysis also leads to $I=1/2$ scalar-pseudoscalar partner degeneration at exact chiral restoration, and supports ideal mixing between the $η$…
The subject of this doctoral study is the pseudoscalar meson photoproduction from nuclei. Two types of processes are investigated in this regard: coherent and quasifree processes. In the case of the coherent process, we study it for the photoproduction of pion and eta mesons. We place special emphasis on the various sources that put into question earlier nonrelativistic-impulse-approximation calculations. These include: final-state interactions, relativistic effects, off-shell ambiguities, and violations to the impulse approximation. By far the largest uncertainty emerges from the ambiguity in…
We study the static scalar susceptibility of the nuclear medium, i.e., the change of the quark condensate for a small modification of the quark mass. In the linear sigma model it is linked to the in-medium sigma propagator. At ordinary nuclear densities, when chiral symmetry is spontaneously broken, the scalar susceptibility is distinct from the pseudoscalar one, which is linked to the fluctuations of the quark pseudoscalar density. We show that the pseudoscalar one, which is large in the vacuum, owing to the smallness of the pion mass, follows the density evolution of the quark condensate and…
Angular distribution of neutrinos (recoil nucleus) in muon capture for an allowed Gamov-Teller transition is considered by taking account of hyperfine effects. This angular distribution is shown to include a correlation of the form P_2(cos A), where A is the angle between the neutrino momentum and the axis specifying the orientation of the initial mesic atom. This correlation, which arises only if the initial mesic atom is aligned, proves highly sensitive to the form factor g_P of induced pseudoscalar interaction. The proposed method for determinating g_P may be realized for the transition 1+ …
Explicit relations between the isospin mixing probability, the spreading width $Γ_{IAS}^{\downarrow}$ of the Isobaric Analog State (IAS) and the statistical decay width $Γ_c$ of the compound nucleus at finite excitation energy, are derived by using the Feshbach projection formalism. The temperature dependence of the isospin mixing probability is discussed quantitatively for the first time by using the values of $Γ_{IAS}^{\downarrow}$ and of $Γ_c$ calculated by means of microscopic models. It is shown that the mixing probability remains essentially constant up to a temperature of the order of 1…
Signature effects observed in rotational bands are a consequence of an inherent D2-symmetry. This symmetry is naturally broken by the mean field cranking approximation when a tilted (non-principal) axis orientation of the nuclear spin becomes stable. The possible tunneling forth and back between the two symmetry-related minima in the double-humped potential-energy surface appears as a typical bifurcation of the rotational band. We describe this many-body process in which all nucleons participate by diagonalizing the nuclear Hamiltonian within a selected set of tilted and non-tilted cranking qu…
The breaking of rotational symmetry on the lattice for bound eigenstates of the two lightest alpha conjugate nuclei is explored. Moreover, a macroscopic alpha-cluster model is used for investigating the general problems associated with the representation of a physical many-body problem on a cubic lattice. In view of the descent from the 3D rotation group to the cubic group symmetry, the role of the squared total angular momentum operator in the classification of the lattice eigenstates in terms of SO(3) irreps is discussed. In particular, the behaviour of the average values of the latter opera…
Starting from the microscopic low-momentum nucleon-nucleon interaction V{low k}, we present the first systematic shell model study of magnetic moments and magnetic dipole transition strengths of the basic low-energy one-quadrupole phonon excitations in nearly-spherical nuclei. Studying in particular the even-even N=52 isotones from 92Zr to 100Cd, we find the predicted evolution of the predominantly proton-neutron non-symmetric state reveals a restoration of collective proton-neutron mixed-symmetry structure near mid-shell. This provides the first explanation for the existence of pronounced col…
The nature of the nuclear pairing condensates in heavy nuclei, specifically neutron-proton (spin-triplet), versus identical-particle (spin-singlet) pairing has been an active area of research for quite some time. In this work, we probe three candidates that should display spin-triplet, spin-singlet, and mixed-spin pairing. Using theoretical approaches such as the gradient method and symmetry restoration techniques, we find the ground state of these nuclei in Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov theory and compute ground-state to ground-state pair-transfer amplitudes to neighbouring isotopes while simultane…
Isospin symmetry of atomic nuclei is explicitly broken by the charge-dependent interactions, primarily the Coulomb force. Within the nuclear density functional theory, isospin is also broken spontaneously. We propose a projection scheme rooted in a mean field theory, that allows the consistent treatment of isospin breaking in both ground and exited nuclear states. We demonstrate that this scheme is essentially free from spurious divergences plaguing particle-number and angular-momentum restoration approaches. Applications of the new technique include excited high-spin states in medium-mass N=Z…
Rapidly rotating nuclei provide us good testing grounds to study the pairing correlations; in fact, the transition from the superfluid to the normal phase is realized at high-spin states. The role played by the pairing correlations is quite different in these two phases: The static (BCS like mean-field) contribution is dominant in the superfluid phase, while the dynamic fluctuations beyond the mean-field approximation are important in the normal phase. The influence of the pairing fluctuations on the high-spin rotational spectra and moments of inertia is discussed.
Partial restoration in nuclear matter of the chiral symmetry of QCD is discussed together with some of its possible signals. Estimates of corrections to the leading, linear dependence of the quark condensate are found to be small, implying a significant reduction of that condensate in matter. The importance of the pion cloud for the scalar quark density of a single nucleon indicates a close connection between chiral symmetry restoration and the attractive two-pion exchange interaction between nucleons. This force is sufficiently long-ranged that nucleons in nuclear matter will feel a significa…
Lepton-flavor-violating decays of light pseudoscalars, $P=π^0,η,η'\toμe$, are stringently suppressed in the Standard Model up to tiny contributions from neutrino oscillations, so that their observation would be a clear indication for physics beyond the Standard Model. However, in effective field theory such decays proceed via axial-vector, pseudoscalar, or gluonic operators, which are, at the same time, probed in spin-dependent $μ\to e$ conversion in nuclei. We derive master formulae that connect both processes in a model-independent way in terms of Wilson coefficients, and study the implicati…
Some topics are introduced on possible evidences of chiral restoration in nuclei and related ones. The topics include the $σ$-mesonic mode in nuclei, the vector mesons in a nuclear matter, deeply bound pionic and Kaonic nuclei with a discussion on the nature of $Λ(1405)$. Other related topics are briefly mentioned. An emphasis is put on that phenomena even in finite nuclei with normal and sub-normal nuclear density, as will be explored in the new project in GSI and possibly in J-PARC, are interesting for physics of finite-density QCD.
We consider the parity doublet structure observed in high hadronic excitations within the instanton model for the QCD vacuum. In the conventional approach this doubling phenomenon is treated as a manifestation of the partial restoration of chiral or $U(1)_A$ symmetry. We demonstrate that the suppression of direct instanton contribution to the masses of excited hadrons leads to the partial $U(1)_A$ symmetry restoration in hadron spectrum. The origin of X(1835) resonance observed by BES Collaboration is studied upon the doublet structure. We argue also how X(1835) be interpreted as the lowest ps…
We investigate two kinds of extensions for the variational Monte Carlo (VMC) method with the Pfaffian in the nuclear shell-model calculations. One is the extension to odd-mass nuclei, for which we find a new Pfaffian expression of the VMC matrix elements. We can, thereby, give a unified VMC framework both for even and odd mass nuclei. The other is the extension of the variation after angular-momentum projection. We successfully implement the full angular-momentum projected trial state into the VMC method, which can provide us with the precise yrast energies. We also find a unique characteristi…
Background: Nuclear self-consistent mean-field approaches are rooted in the density functional theory and, through the spontaneous symmetry breaking mechanism, allow for including important correlations, while keeping the simplicity of the approach. Because real ground states should have all symmetries of the nuclear Hamiltonian, these methods require subsequent symmetry restoration. Purpose: We implement and study Lipkin method of approximate variation after projection applied to the restoration of the translational or rotational symmetries. Methods: We use Lipkin operators up to quadratic te…
Symmetry techniques based on group theory play a prominent role in the analysis of nuclear phenomena, and in particular in the understanding of observed regular patterns in nuclear spectra and selection rules for electromagnetic transitions. A variety of symmetry-based nuclear models have been developed in nuclear physics, providing efficient tools of choice to interpret nuclear spectroscopic data. This chapter provides a pedagogical introduction to the basic idea of symmetry-breaking mechanism and symmetry-restoration methods in modeling atomic nuclei.
We study several structure properties of finite nuclei using relativistic mean-field Lagrangians constructed according to the Brown-Rho scaling due to the chiral symmetry restoration at high densities. The models are consistent with current experimental constraints for the equations of state of symmetric matter at both normal and supra-normal densities and of asymmetric matter at sub-saturation densities. It is shown that these models can successfully describe the binding energies and charge radii of finite nuclei. Compared to calculations with usual relativistic mean-field models, these model…
Spectral enhancement near 2 m_π threshold in the I=J=0 channel in nuclei is shown to be a distinct signal of the partial restoration of chiral symmetry. The relevance of this phenomenon with possible detection of 2π^{0} and 2γin hadron-nucleus and photo-nucleus reactions is discussed.
Spectral functions of the pseudoscalar $D$ meson in the nuclear medium are analyzed using QCD sum rules and the maximum entropy method. This approach enables us to extract the spectral functions without any phenomenological assumption, and thus to visualize in-medium modification of the spectral functions directly. It is found that the reduction of the chiral condensates of dimension 3 and 5 causes the masses of both $D^+$ and $D^-$ mesons to grow gradually at finite density. Additionally, we construct charge-conjugate-projected sum rules and find a $D^+$-$D^-$ mass splitting of about -15 MeV …
The in-medium mass of the $η^{\prime}$ meson is discussed in a context of partial restoration of chiral symmetry in nuclear medium. The $η^{\prime}$ mass is expected to be reduced by order of 100 MeV at the saturation density. The reduction is a consequence of the suppression of the anomaly effect on the $η^{\prime}$ mass induced by partial restoration of chiral symmetry. This strong attraction in $η^{\prime}$ nuclear systems does not accompany large absorption of $η^{\prime}$ into nuclear matter. This leads to the possibility of so narrow bound states of the $η^{\prime}$ meson in nuclei to be…
We explore the possibility to observe an enhanced 2pi correlation in the scalar iso-scalar (sigma) channel in nuclei by (d,t) and (d,^3He) reactions to obtain new information on the partial restoration of chiral symmetry in the nuclear medium. The sensitivity of the reaction spectra on the change of the chiral condensate in the nuclear medium is examined.
The role of the quark condensate in low-energy QCD and its behaviour in nuclear matter are discussed. Partial restoration of chiral symmetry, as indicated by a reduction of the quark condensate in matter, could significantly alter the properties of nucleons and mesons. Various signals of these effects are discussed: enhancement of the axial charge of a nucleon, lepton pair production and $\overline K$-nucleus attraction. (Talk presented at the Nuclear Physics Study Weekend on Extreme States of Nuclei, Abingdon, October 1995)
Deeply bound 1s states of $π^-$ in $^{115,119,123}$Sn were preferentially observed using the Sn($d$,$^3$He) pion-transfer reaction under the recoil-free condition. The 1s binding energies and widths were precisely determined, and were used to deduce the isovector parameter of the s-wave pion-nucleus potential to be $b_1 =-0.115\pm 0.007 ~m_π^{-1}$. The observed enhancement of $|b_1|$ over the free $πN$ value ($b_1^{\rm free}/b_1 = 0.78 \pm 0.05$) indicates a reduction of the chiral order parameter, $f^{*}_π (ρ)^2/f_π^2 \approx 0.64$, at the normal nuclear density, $ρ= ρ_0$.
Inhomogeneous pseudoscalar and scalar Bethe-Salpeter equations solved using a renormalisation-group-improved rainbow-ladder truncation exhibit bound state poles below and above T_c, the critical temperature for chiral symmetry restoration. Above T_c the bound state amplitudes are identical, as are the positions and residues of the pseudoscalar and scalar poles in the vertices. In the chiral limit the pi^0 -> gamma gamma coupling vanishes at T_c, as do f_pi, m_sigma, g_{sigma pi pi}. For light current-quark masses the 2-pi decay channel of the isoscalar-scalar meson remains open until very near…
We study patterns of chiral symmetry breaking at zero temperature and its subsequent restoration at nonzero temperature within the $SU(3)_{r} \times SU(3)_{\ell}$ linear sigma model. Gap equations for the masses of the scalar and pseudoscalar mesons and the non-strange and strange quark condensates are systematically derived in the Hartree approximation via the Cornwall-Jackiw-Tomboulis formalism. In the chiral limit, the chiral symmetry restoring transition is found to be first order, as predicted by universality arguments. Taking the experimental values for the meson masses, however, the tra…
We study chiral symmetry restoration by analyzing thermal properties of QCD's (pseudo-)Goldstone bosons, especially the pion. The meson properties are obtained from the spectral densities of mesonic imaginary-time correlation functions. To obtain the correlation functions, we solve the Dyson-Schwinger equations and the inhomogeneous Bethe-Salpeter equations in the leading symmetry-preserving rainbow-ladder approximation. In the chiral limit, the pion and its partner sigma degenerate at the critical temperature $T_c$. At $T \gtrsim T_c$, it is found that the pion rapidly dissociates, which sign…
Chiral symmetry restoration at nonzero temperature is studied in the framework of the O(4) linear sigma model and the U(N_f)_r x U(N_f)_l linear sigma model with N_f=2,3, and 4 quark flavors. We investigate the temperature dependence of the masses of the scalar and pseudoscalar mesons, and the non-strange, strange, and charm condensates within the Hartree approximation as derived from the Cornwall-Jackiw-Tomboulis formalism. We find that the masses of the non-strange and strange mesons at nonzero temperature depend sensitively on the particular symmetry of the model and the number of light qua…
With partially restored isospin symmetry, we calculate the nuclear matrix element for a special decay mode of $2νββ$ (two neutrino double beta decay) -- the decay to the first $2^+$ excited states. With the realistic CD-Bonn nuclear force, we analyze the dependence of the nuclear matrix elements on the iso-vector and iso-scalar parts of proton-neutron particle-particle interaction. The dependence on the different nuclear matrix element is observed and the results are explained. We also give the phase space factors with numerical electron wave functions and properly chosen excitation energies. …
The Multi-Reference Energy Density Functional (MR-EDF) approach (also called configuration mixing or Generator Coordinate Method), that is commonly used to treat pairing in finite nuclei and project onto particle number, is re-analyzed. It is shown that, under certain conditions, the MR-EDF energy can be interpreted as a functional of the one-body density matrix of the projected state with good particle number. Based on this observation, we propose a new approach, called Symmetry-Conserving EDF (SC-EDF), where the breaking and restoration of symmetry are accounted for simultaneously. We show, …
Chiral thermodynamics of charmed mesons is formulated at finite temperature within a $2+1+1$-flavored effective Lagrangian incorporating heavy quark symmetry. The charmed-meson mean fields act as an extra source which breaks the chiral symmetry explicitly. This leads to effective interactions between the light and heavy-light mesons, which intrinsically depend on temperature. Effective masses of the scalar and pseudoscalar charmed-mesons tend to approach each other as increasing temperature, so that the splitting between the chiral partners is reduced. These chiral splittings are shown to be l…
Spectral enhancement near the 2m_π threshold in the I=J=0 channel in nuclei is shown to be a distinct signal of the partial restoration of chiral symmetry. The relevance of this phenomenon with the possible detection of 2π^{0} and 2γin hadron-nucleus and photo-nucleus reactions is discussed.
Nuclear pairing interaction plays a crucial role in both macroscopic-microscopic and fully macroscopic descriptions of nuclei. In the present study we discuss different pairing interactions (monopole and delta pairing forces) and the methods allowing for the particle number symmetry restoration in addition to the customary BCS treatment of pairing correlations in the context of $α$-decay half-lives for superheavy nuclei. The calculations are done in the macroscopic-microscopic framework for even-even nuclei with Z > 110.
We study theoretically the formation spectra of deeply bound pionic atoms expected to be observed by experiments with high energy resolution at RIBF/RIKEN, and we discuss in detail the possibilities to extract new information on the pion properties at finite density from the observed spectra, which may provide information on partial restoration of chiral symmetry in medium. We find that the non-yrast pionic states such as 2s are expected to be seen in the (d,3He) spectra, which will be helpful to reduce uncertainties of the theoretical calculations in the neutron wave functions in nucleus. The…
We study the photoproduction of scalar mesons close to the threshold of f_0(980) and a_0(980) using a unitary chiral model. Peaks for both resonances show up in the invariant mass distributions of pairs of pseudoscalar mesons. A discussion is made on the photoproduction of these resonances in nuclei, which can shed light on their nature, a subject of continuous debate.
We study flavor mixing and the axial anomaly in QCD at zero and finite temperature. Using the instanton liquid model, we show that the strength of the anomaly is essentially unchanged near the critical temperature for chiral symmetry restoration. We demonstrate that nevertheless, chiral symmetry restoration has important consequences for the eta and eta prime. In particular, the strange and non-strange components of the eta unmix near T_c. The anomaly does not affect the strange eta, so we expect a light purely strange pseudoscalar meson near the phase transition.

We report the first calculations of nuclear properties near the drip-lines using the spherical Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov mean-field theory with a finite-range force supplemented by continuum and particle number projection effects. Calculations were carried out in a basis made of the eigenstates of a Woods-Saxon potential computed in a box, thereby garanteeing that continuum effects were properly taken into account. Projection of the self-consistent solutions on good particle number was carried out after variation, and an approximation of the variation after projection result was used. We give th…
Medium modifications of the electromagnetic spectral function in hadronic and quark-gluon matter are reviewed. A strong broadening of the $ρ$ meson, which dominates the spectral function in the low-mass regime, is quantitatively consistent with dilepton excess spectra measured in photoproduction off cold nuclei (CLAS/JLab) and in fixed-target ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions (NA45,NA60/CERN-SPS). The large excess observed by PHENIX at RHIC remains unexplained to date, but is most likely not due to emission from the Quark-Gluon Plasma. Connections to thermal lattice QCD promise progress i…
Background: Ab initio many-body methods whose numerical cost scales polynomially with the number of particles have been developed over the past fifteen years to tackle closed-shell mid-mass nuclei. Open-shell nuclei have been further addressed by implementing variants based on the concept of spontaneous symmetry breaking (and restoration). Purpose: In order to access the spectroscopy of open-shell nuclei more systematically while controlling the numerical cost, we design a novel many-body method that combines the merit of breaking and restoring symmetries with those brought about by low-rank i…
We study the properties of charmed pseudoscalar and vector mesons in dense matter within a unitary meson-baryon coupled-channel model which incorporates heavy-quark spin symmetry. This is accomplished by extending the SU(3) Weinberg-Tomozawa Lagrangian to SU(8) spin-flavor symmetry and implementing a suitable flavor symmetry breaking. Several resonances with negative parity are generated dynamically by the s-wave interaction between pseudoscalar and vector meson multiplets with $1/2^+$ and $3/2^+$ baryons. Those states are then compared to experimental data as well as theoretical models. Next,…
It should be a typical subject in this workshop to explore possible change of hadron properties in association with that of QCD vacuum due to an environmental change. In this report, we first summarize what hadrons are expected to show such a change and how they do. Then we propose several experiments including the ones utilizing electron and photon beams for examining possible restoration of chiral symmetry in nuclei and the possible existence of the sigma meson. The experiments are based on the observation that the sigma meson may decrease the mass and the width along with the partial restor…
The changes of hadron properties in dense and/or hot matter are discussed in terms of effective chiral Lagrangians with the parameters of the theory scaled in a simple way. The phenomenologically successful Walecka model is identified as a mean field chiral Lagrangian with the scaled parameters. Kaon condensation and chiral restoration transitions can be described within the same mean field framework.
We study eta meson properties in the infinite nuclear matter and in atomic nuclei with an emphasis on effects of the eta coupling to N*(1535)--nucleon-hole modes. The N*(1535) resonance, which dominates the low-energy eta-nucleon scattering, can be seen as a chiral partner of the nucleon. The change of the chiral mass gap between the N* and the nucleon in a nuclear medium has an impact on the properties of the eta-nucleus system. If the N*-nucleon mass gap decreases with a density increase (chiral symmetry restoration) the calculations show the existence of the resonance state at the energy ab…
The one-QRPA method is used to describe simultaneously both double decay beta modes, giving special attention to the partial restoration of spin-isospin SU(4) symmetry. To implement this restoration and to fix the model parameters, we resort to the energetics of Gamow-Teller resonances and to the minima of the single $β^+$-decay strengths. This makes the theory predictive regarding the $ββ_{2ν}$-decay, producing the $2ν$ moments in $^{48}$Ca, $^{76}$Ge, $^{82}$Se, $^{96}$Zr, $^{100}$Mo, $^{128,130}$Te, and $^{150}$Nd, that are of the same order of magnitude as the experimental ones; however, t…
We report on the $U_{A}(1)$ symmetry restoration resulting due to temperature dependence of the coefficient c(T) for the Kobayashi-Maskawa-'t Hooft determinant (KMT) term in a modified 2+1 flavor Polyakov loop quark meson model having fermionic vacuum correction term (PQMVT).Temperature dependence of KMT coupling c(T) drives the non-strange condensate melting to significantly smaller temperatures in comparison to the constant c case.Further due to c(T), $m_{η^{\prime}}$ decreases from its vacuum value by 220 MeV near T=176 MeV after the chiral transition ($T_{c}^χ=154.9$ MeV).This is similar t…
After some short introductory remarks on particular issues on the vector mesons in nuclei, in this paper we present a short review of recent developments concerning the interaction of vector mesons with baryons and with nuclei from a modern perspective using the local hidden gauge formalism for the interaction of vector mesons. We present results for the vector baryon interaction and in particular for the resonances which appear as composite states, dynamically generated from the interaction of vector mesons with baryons, taking also the mixing of these states with pseudoscalars and baryons in…
The structure and the energy spectrum of the $η^{\prime}$ mesonic nuclei are investigated in a relativistic mean field theory. One expects a substantial attraction for the $η^{\prime}$ meson in finite nuclei due to the partial restoration of chiral symmetry in the nuclear medium. Such a hadronic scale interaction for the $η^{\prime}$ mesonic nuclei may provide modification of the nuclear structure. The relativistic mean field theory is a self-contained model for finite nuclei which provides the saturation property within the model, and is good to investigate the structure change of the nucleus…
We study the production of strange hadrons in nucleus-nucleus collisions from 4 to 160 A GeV within the Parton-Hadron-String Dynamics (PHSD) transport approach that is extended to incorporate essentials aspects of chiral symmetry restoration (CSR) in the hadronic sector (via the Schwinger mechanism) on top of the deconfinement phase transition as implemented in PHSD. Especially the $K^+/π^+$ and the $(Λ+Σ^0)/π^-$ ratios in central Au+Au collisions are found to provide information on the relative importance of both transitions. The modelling of chiral symmetry restoration is driven by the pion-…
Three recent experiments, which looked at pionic effects in nuclei have concluded that there are no excess pions. This puts into serious question the conventional meson-exchange picture of the nucleon-nucleon interaction. Based on arguments of partial restoration of chiral symmetry with density we propose a resolution to this problem.
The symmetries of the $t=1$ and $t=0$ pair-fields are different. The consequences for rotational spectra are discussed. For $t=1$, the concept of spontaneous breaking and subsequent restoration of the isospin symmetry turns out to be important. It permits us to describe the proton-neutron pair-correlation within the conventional frame of pairing between like particles. The experimental data are consistent with the presence of a $t=1$ field at low spin in $N\approx Z$ nuclei. For a substantial $t=0$ field, the spectra of even-even and odd-odd $N\approx Z$ nuclei become similar. The possibility …
