We study the properties of charmed pseudoscalar and vector mesons in dense matter within a unitary meson-baryon coupled-channel model which incorporates heavy-quark spin symmetry. This is accomplished by extending the SU(3) Weinberg-Tomozawa Lagrangian to SU(8) spin-flavor symmetry and implementing a suitable flavor symmetry breaking. Several resonances with negative parity are generated dynamically by the s-wave interaction between pseudoscalar and vector meson multiplets with $1/2^+$ and $3/2^+$ baryons. Those states are then compared to experimental data as well as theoretical models. Next, Pauli-blocking effects and meson self-energies are introduced in a self-consistent manner to obtain the open-charm meson spectral functions in a dense nuclear environment. We finally discuss the formation of $D$-mesic nuclei.
We obtain the properties of charmed mesons in dense matter using a coupled-channel approach which accounts for Pauli blocking effects and meson self-energies in a self-consistent manner. We study the behaviour of dynamically-generated baryonic resonances together with the open-charm meson spectral functions in this dense nuclear environment. We discuss the implications of the in-medium properties of open-charm mesons on the $D_{s0}(2317)$ and the predicted X(3700) scalar resonances, and on the formation of $D$-mesic nuclei.
With the one-boson-exchange model we have studied the possible existence of the very loosely bound hidden-charm molecular baryons composed of anti-charmed meson and charmed baryon. Our numerical results indicate that there exist $Σ_c\bar{D}^*$ states with $I(J^P)=1/2(1/2^-), 1/2(3/2^-), 3/2(1/2^-), 3/2(3/2^-)$ and $Σ_c\bar{D}$ state with $3/2(1/2^-)$. But the $Λ_c \bar{D}$ and $Λ_c \bar{D}^*$ molecular states do not exist.
Using the quark-meson coupling (QMC) model, we investigate theoretically whether $η$ and $ω$ mesons form meson-nucleus bound states. We study several nuclei from $^{6}$He to $^{208}$Pb, including those which are the final nuclei in the proposed experiment at GSI. Results for the $ω$ are compared with those of the Walecka model. Our results suggest that one should expect to find $η$- and $ω$-nucleus bound states in all these nuclei. Furthermore, we investigate the possibility of charmed mesic nuclei. It is shown that the $D^-$ meson will inevitably form narrow bound states with $^{208}$Pb.
Doubly charmed mesons are studied within a quark model framework. We solve the four-quark Schordinger equation by means of a variational approach by using different interacting potentials. Our results point to the existence of a stable isoscalar doubly charmed four-quark meson with quantum numbers $J^P=1^+$.
Revisiting the strong couplings of three mesons, each of which involves at least one charm quark, proves clear disaccord between quark-model and QCD sum-rule results.
Chiral thermodynamics of charmed mesons is formulated at finite temperature within a $2+1+1$-flavored effective Lagrangian incorporating heavy quark symmetry. The charmed-meson mean fields act as an extra source which breaks the chiral symmetry explicitly. This leads to effective interactions between the light and heavy-light mesons, which intrinsically depend on temperature. Effective masses of the scalar and pseudoscalar charmed-mesons tend to approach each other as increasing temperature, so that the splitting between the chiral partners is reduced. These chiral splittings are shown to be l…
We calculate the centrality dependence of inclusive cross section of large-pT charmed-meson ($D^{0}$, $D^{*}$, $D^{*+}$, and $D_{s}^{+}$) from heavy quark fragmentation by the hard photoproduction processes for the nucleus-nucleus collisions in ultrarelativistic heavy ion collisions. The numerical results indicate that the modification of the hard photoproduction processes cannot be negligible for the charmed-meson production in Au-Au collisions at Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) and Pb-Pb collisions at Large Hadron Collider (LHC).
In this work, we study the interaction between a nucleon and a $P$-wave charmed meson in the $T$ doublet by exchanging a pion. Our calculations indicate that a nucleon and a $P$-wave charmed meson with $J^P=0^+$ or $J^P=1^+$ in the $T$ doublet can form bound states. We propose the experimental search for these exotic molecular states near the $D_1(2420)N$ and $D_2^*(2460)N$ thresholds, where Belle, LHCb and the forthcoming Belle II have the discovery potential for them.
Including O(m_c) terms in the coefficient functions and/or O(m_D) twist 3 contributions in the heavy meson distribution amplitudes leads to a non-zero transverse amplitude for exclusive neutrino production of a D pseudoscalar charmed meson on an unpolarized target. We work in the framework of the collinear QCD approach where chiral-odd transversity generalized parton distributions (GPDs) factorize from perturbatively calculable coefficient functions.
We calculate the leading order in $α_s$ QCD amplitude for exclusive neutrino and antineutrino production of a $D$ pseudoscalar charmed meson on an unpolarized nucleon. We work in the framework of the collinear QCD approach where generalized parton distributions (GPDs) factorize from perturbatively calculable coefficient functions. We include both $O(m_c)$ terms in the coefficient functions and $O(M_D)$ mass term contributions in the heavy meson distribution amplitudes. We emphasize the sensitivity of specific observables on the transversity quark GPDs.
Inspired by the newly observed $D_{sJ}(3040)^+$ state, in this work we systemically study the two-body strong decays of P-wave charmed-strange mesons with the first radial excitation. Under the assignment of $1^{+}(j^P=1/2^+)$, i.e. the first radial excitation of $D_{s1}(2460)^+$, we find that the width of $D_{sJ}(3040)^+$ is close to the lower limit of the BaBar measurement. This indicates that it is reasonable to interpret $D_{sJ}(3040)^+$ as the first radial excitation of $D_{s1}(2460)^+$. Our calculation further predicts that $0^-+1^-$ channels e.g. $D^+K^{*0}$, $D^0 K^{*+}$ and $D_s^+ϕ$ a…
We calculate at the leading order in $α_s$ the QCD amplitude for exclusive neutrino production of a $D^*$ or $D_s^*$ charmed vector meson on a nucleon. We work in the framework of the collinear QCD approach where generalized parton distributions (GPDs) factorize from perturbatively calculable coefficient functions. We include $O(m_c)$ terms in the coefficient functions and $O(m_D)$ term in the definition of heavy meson distribution amplitudes. The show that the analysis of the angular distribution of the decay $D_{(s)}^*\to D_{(s)} π$ allows to access the transversity gluon GPDs.
We study the so-called extended linear sigma model for the case of four quark flavors. This model is based on global chiral symmetry and dilatation invariance and includes, besides scalar and pseudoscalar mesons, vector and axial-vector mesons. Most of the parameters of the model have been determined in previous work by fitting properties of mesons with three quark flavors. Only three new parameters, all related to the current charm quark mass, appear when introducing charmed mesons. Surprisingly, within the accuracy expected from our approach, the masses of open charmed mesons turn out to be …
We calculate the amplitude for exclusive neutrino production of a charmed meson on an unpolarized target, in the colinear QCD approach where generalized parton distributions (GPDs) factorize from perturbatively calculable coefficient functions. We demonstrate that the transversity chiral odd GPDs contribute to the transverse cross section if the hard amplitude is calculated up to order mc/Q. We show how to access these GPDs through the azimuthal dependence of the nu N -> mu D N differential cross section.
The scattering cross sections of charm mesons with hadrons such as the pion, rho meson, and nucleon are studied in an effective Lagrangian. In heavy ion collisions, rescattering of produced charm mesons by hadrons affects the invariant mass spectra of both charm meson pairs and dileptons resulting from their decays. These effects are estimated for heavy ion collisions at SPS energies and are found to be significant.
We demonstrate that the transversity chiral odd generalized parton distributions can be accessed through the azimuthal dependence of the nu N -> l D N' or nubar N -> l D N' differential cross sections, in the framework of the colinear QCD approach, where GPDs factorize from perturbatively calculable coefficient functions calculated up to order mc/Q.
We have calculated the scattering lengths between the pseudoscalar meson and charmed triplet, sextet, and excited sextet baryon to the third order with the heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory. The chiral expansion of the pion channels converges well.
We examine charmed-strange mesons within the framework of the constituent quark model, focusing on the states with L=1. We are particularly interested in the mixing of two spin-states that are involved in $D_{s1}(2536)$ and the recently discovered $D_{sJ}(2460)$. We assume that these two mesons form a pair of states with J=1. These spin-states are mixed by a type of the spin-orbit interaction that violates the total-spin conservation. Without assuming explicit forms for the interactions as functions of the interquark distance, we relate the matrix elements of all relevant spin-dependent intera…
We investigate the structure and formation of charmed meson--nucleus systems, with the aim of understanding the charmed meson--nucleon interactions and the properties of the charmed mesons in the nuclear medium. The $\bar{D}$ mesic nuclei are of special interest, since they have tiny decay widths due to the absence of strong decays for the $\bar{D} N$ pair. Employing an effective model for the $\bar{D} N$ and $D N$ interactions and solving the Klein--Gordon equation for $\bar{D}$ and $D$ in finite nuclei, we find that the $D^{-}$-${}^{11}\rm{B}$ system has $1 s$ and $2p$ mesic nuclear states a…
Charmed nuclei are investigated utilizing $Λ_c N$ and $Σ_c N$ interactions that have been extrapolated from lattice QCD simulations at unphysical masses of $m_π= 410$--$570$ MeV to the physical point using chiral effective field theory as guideline. Calculations of the energies of $Λ_c$ single-particle bound states for various charmed nuclei from $^{\ 5}_{Λ_c}$Li to $^{209}_{Λ_c}$Bi are performed using a perturbative many-body approach. This approach allows one to determine the finite nuclei $Λ_c$ self-energy from which the energies of the different bound states can be obtained. Though the $Λ_…

We suggest that the recently observed charmed scalar mesons $D_0^{0}(2308)$ (BELLE) and $D_0^{0,+}(2405)$ (FOCUS) are considered as different resonances. Using the QCD sum rule approach we investigate the possible four-quark structure of these mesons and also of the very narrow $D_{sJ}^{+}(2317)$, firstly observed by BABAR. We use diquak-antidiquark currents and work to the order of $m_s$ in full QCD, without relying on $1/m_c$ expansion. Our results indicate that a four-quark structure is acceptable for the resonances observed by BELLE and BABAR: $D_0^{0}(2308)$ and $D_{sJ}^{+}(2317)$ respect…
The phenomenological analysis of various characteristics of $J/ψ$ and $D$ meson production in PbPb collisions at the center-of-mass energy 2.76 TeV per nucleon pair is presented. The data on momentum spectra and elliptic flow are reproduced by two-component model HYDJET++ including thermal and non-thermal charm production mechanisms. The significant part of $D$-mesons is found to be in a kinetic equilibrium with the created medium, while $J/ψ$-mesons are characterized by earlier (as compared to light hadrons) freeze-out.
We discuss the convergence properties of chiral expansions for the pseudoscalar and vector charmed meson masses based on the chiral SU(3) Lagrangian. Conventional expansion strategies as formulated in terms of bare meson masses are shown to suffer from poor convergence properties. This changes once the expansion is set up in terms of on-shell masses. We find a rapid convergence of the chiral expansion from vanishing quark masses up to physical values of the strange quark mass in this case. Detailed results are presented at the one-loop level for the D-meson and D^*-meson masses. It is emphasiz…
Motivated by the recent surprising discovery of two new meson states with c s-bar quark content but unexpectedly low masses and narrow total decay widths, we work out, in a nonrelativistic potential-model approach developed already some two decades ago, the predictions for the energy levels of the corresponding charm-antistrange quark bound states. In spite of the fact that this simple quark model reproduces the mass spectrum of the previously observed hadrons remarkably well, we are led to the conclusion that, without considerable modifications, both the new states do not fit into this framew…
A symmetry-preserving treatment of a vector-vector contact interaction is used to study charmed heavy-light mesons. The contact interaction is a representation of nonperturbative kernels used in Dyson-Schwinger and Bethe-Salpeter equations of QCD. The Dyson-Schwinger equation is solved for the $u,\,d,\,s$ and $c$ quark propagators and the bound-state Bethe-Salpeter amplitudes respecting spacetime-translation invariance and the Ward-Green-Takahashi identities associated with global symmetries of QCD are obtained to calculate masses and electroweak decay constants of the pseudoscalar $π,\,K$, $D…
The effects of intermediate charmed mesons on charmonium transitions with the emission of one pion or eta are studied systematically. Based on a non-relativistic effective field theory we show that charmed meson loops are enhanced compared to the corresponding tree-level contributions for transitions between two S-wave charmonia as well as for transitions between two P-wave charmonia. On the contrary, for the transitions between one S-wave and one P-wave charmonium state, the loops need to be analyzed case by case and often appear to be suppressed. The relation to and possible implications for…
We calculate the strong decay couplings for $ρ\to ππ$, $ϕ\to KK$, $K^* \to Kπ$ and $D^*\to Dπ$ in a unified and consistent approach based on the impulse approximation, nonperturbative solutions of the quark-gap equation and the Poincaré invariant Bethe-Salpeter amplitudes of vector and pseudoscalar mesons. In particular, we obtain the coupling $g_{D^*\!Dπ} = 17.24^{+3.06}_{-2.30} $ in very good agreement with the experimental value by CLEO, which corresponds to a strong effective coupling between heavy vector and pseudoscalar mesons to the pion of $\hat g = 0.58^{+0.10}_{-0.08}$.
We compute the masses of the pseudoscalar mesons $π^+$ , $K^0$ and $D^+$ at finite temperature and baryon chemical potential. The computations are based on a symmetry- preserving Dyson-Schwinger equation treatment of a vector-vector four quark contact interaction. The results found for the temperature dependence of the meson masses are in qualitative agreement with lattice QCD data and QCD sum rules calculations. The chemical potential dependence of the masses provide a novel prediction of the present computation.
We study three newly observed D(2550), D(2610), and D(2760) by the BaBar Collaboration utilizing the mass spectra and investigating the strong decays. Our calculation indicates that D(2610) is an admixture of $2^3S_1$ and $1^3D_1$ with $J^P=1^-$. $D(2760)$ can be explained as either the orthogonal partner of D(2610) or $1^3D_3$. Our estimate of the decay width for $D(2550)$, assuming it as $2^1S_0$, is far below the experimental value. the threshold effect because the strong decay of $D(2550)\to D_0^*π$ is forbidden.} The decay behavior of the remaining two 1D charmed mesons, i.e., $^3D_2$ and…
It has been recently argued that some longstanding problems in semileptonic B decays can be solved provided the branching ratio for the $B\to D^{\prime(\ast)}$ semileptonic decays are large enough. We have studied these decays in a constituent quark model which has been successful in describing semileptonic and non-leptonic B decays into orbitally excited charmed mesons. Our results do not confirm the hypothesis of large branching ratios for the $B\to D^{\prime(\ast)}$ semileptonic decays. In addition, we calculate the non-leptonic $B\to D'π$ decays which can provide an independent test of the…
