Additional charge carriers were introduced to the iron oxyarsenide Sr4Sc2Fe2As2O6 under a high-pressure condition, followed by measurements of electrical resistivity, Hall coefficient, and magnetic susceptibility. The host compound Sr4Sc2Fe2As2O6 shows metallic conductivity down to ~200 K and turns to show a semiconducting-like conductivity accompanied by a positive magneto-resistance (22% at 70 kOe). Although the carrier density is comparable at 300 K (5.9x1021 cm-3) with that of the other Fe-based superconductors, no superconductivity appears down to 2 K. This is primarily because the net carrier density decreases over 3 orders of magnitude on cooling and additionally a possible magnetic order at ~120 K prevents carriers from pairing. The properties were altered largely by introducing the additional carriers.
In this letter, we show that a superconducting two-dimensional electron gas is formed at the LaTiO3/SrTiO3 interface whose transition temperature can be modulated by a back-gate voltage. The gas consists of two types of carriers : a majority of low-mobility carriers always present, and a few high-mobility ones that can be injected by electrostatic doping. The calculation of the electrons spatial distribution in the confinement potential shows that the high-mobility electrons responsible for superconductivity set at the edge of the gas whose extension can be tuned by field effect.
It is shown that in 2D system of the fermions with simplest indirect boson-induced attraction (through the Einstein phonon exchange as an example) along with the normal and superconducting phases there arises a new (called "abnormal normal" or pseudogap) one where the absolute value of the order parameter is finite but its phase is a random quantity. It is important that this new phase really exists at low carriers density only, i.e. it shrinks when doping increases. The relevance of the results obtained with dependence of pseudogap on doping in high-temperature superconductors is speculated.
The superconductivity precursor phenomena in high temperature cuprate superconductors was studied by direct measurements of superconducting condensate with the use of the $c$-axis optical conductivity of YBa$_{2}$(Cu$_{1-x}$Zn$_{x}$)$_{3}$O$_{y}$ for several doping levels ($p$) as well as for several Zn-concentrations. Both of the real and imaginary part of the optical conductivity clearly showed that the superconducting carriers persist up to the high temperatures $T$$_{p}$ that is higher than the critical temperature $T$$_{c}$ but lower than the pseudogap temperature $T$$^{\ast}$. $T$$_{p}$ …
We predict by first principles calculations that the recently prepared borophene is a pristine two-dimensional (2D) monolayer superconductor, in which the superconductivity can be significantly enhanced by strain and charge carrier doping. The intrinsic metallic ground state with high density of states at Fermi energy and strong Fermi surface nesting lead to sizeable electron-phonon coupling, making the freestanding borophene superconduct with $T_c$ close to 19.0 K. The tensile strain can increase $T_c$ to 27.4 K, while the hole doping can notably increase $T_c$ to 34.8 K. The results indicate…
We have previously shown that most of the anomalies in the superconducting characteristics of cuprates and ferropnictides observed at dopant concentrations within the superconducting dome, as well as the position of the domes in the phase diagrams, do not require knowledge of the details of their electronic structure for explanation, but can be understood and calculated with high accuracy within the framework of a simple model describing the cluster structure of the superconducting phase. This fact suggests a change in the paradigm that forms our understanding of HTSC. In this paper, we propos…
Application of a significantly large bias voltage to small Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+x mesa structures leads to persistent doping of the mesas. Here we employ this effect for analysis of the doping dependence of the electronic spectra of Bi-2212 single crystals by means of intrinsic tunneling spectroscopy. We are able to controllably and reversibly change the doping state of the same single crystal from underdoped to overdoped state, without changing its chemical composition. It is observed that such physical doping is affecting superconductivity in Bi-2212 similar to chemical doping by oxygen impurities:…
We report the effects of Ce substitution on structural, electronic, and magnetic properties of layered bismuth-chalcogenide La1-xCexOBiSSe (x = 0-0.9), which are newly obtained in this study. Metallic conductivity was observed for x > 0.1 because of electron carriers induced by mixed valence of Ce ions, as revealed by bond valence sum calculation and magnetization measurements. Zero resistivity and clear diamagnetic susceptibility were obtained for x = 0.2-0.6, indicating the emergence of bulk superconductivity in these compounds. Dome-shaped superconductivity phase diagram with the highest tr…
We have investigated the superconductivity discovered in boron (B)-doped diamonds by means of 11B-NMR on heteroepitaxially grown (111) and (100) films. 11B-NMR spectra for all of the films are identified to arise from the substitutional B(1) site as single occupation and lower symmetric B(2) site substituted as boron+hydrogen(B+H) complex, respectively. A clear evidence is presented that the effective carriers introduced by B(1) substitution are responsible for the superconductivity, whereas the charge neutral B(2) sites does not offer the carriers effectively. The result is also corroborated …
We report X-ray irradiation-induced carrier doping effects on the electrical conductivity in the organic dimer-Mott insulators $κ$-(ET)$_{2}$$X$ with $X =$ Cu[N(CN)$_{2}$]Cl and Cu$_{2}$(CN)$_{3}$. For $κ$-(ET)$_{2}$Cu[N(CN)$_{2}$]Cl, we have observed a large decrease of the resistivity by 40 % with the irradiation at 300 K and the metal-like temperature dependence down to about 50 K. The irradiation-induced defects expected at the donor molecule sites might cause a local imbalance of the charge transfer in the crystal. Such molecular defects result in the effective doping of carriers into the…
We study the t-t'-t''-J model with parameters chosen to model an electron-doped high temperature superconductor. The model with one, two and four charge carriers is solved on a 32-site lattice using exact diagonalization. Our results demonstrate that at doping levels up to x=0.125 the model possesses robust antiferromagnetic correlation. When doped with one charge carrier, the ground state has momenta (\pmπ,0) and (0,\pmπ). On further doping, charge carriers are unbound and the momentum distribution function can be constructed from that of the single-carrier ground state. The Fermi surface res…
Dome-shape superconductivity phase diagram can commonly be observed in cuprate and iron-based systems via tuning parameters such as charge carrier doping, pressure, bond angle, and etc. We report doping electrons from transition-metal elements (TM = Co, Ni) substitution can induce high-Tc superconductivity around 35 K in Ca0.94La0.06Fe2As2, which emerges abruptly before the total suppression of the innate spin-density-wave/anti-ferromagnetism (SDW/AFM) state. Unexpectedly, the onset critical temperature for the high-Tc superconductivity stays constant for a wide range of TM doping. Possible ex…
We show that spontaneous breaking of the translational symmetry (SBTS) of strongly interacting electron and phonon fields acknowledged in lightly doped cuprates to interpret broad bands in their ARPES and optical conductivity spectra influences the carrier distribution function as charge carrier momentum is no longer certain. We develop appropriate distribution and use it to calculate the carrier concentration in different states in essentially doped systems with SBTS. This allows studying doping and temperature evolution of ARPES spectra of such systems. We reveal that at increasing both temp…
The attempt to describe the bell-shape dependence of the critical temperature of high-$T_{c}$ superconductors on charge carriers density is made. Its linear increase in the region of small densities (underdoped regime) is proposed to explain by the role of the order parameter phase 2D fluctuations which become less at this density growth. The critical temperature suppression in the region of large carrier densities (overdoped regime) is connected with the appearance (because of doping) of the essential damping of long-wave bosons which in the frame of the model proposed define the mechanism of…
Based on a microscopic theoretical study, we show that novel superconductivity is induced by carrier doping in layered perovskite Ir oxides where a strong spin-orbit coupling causes an effective total angular momentum J_{eff}=1/2 Mott insulator. Using a variational Monte Carlo method, we find an unconventional superconducting state in the ground state phase diagram of a t_{2g} three-orbital Hubbard model on the square lattice. This superconducting state is characterized by a d_{x^2-y^2}-wave "pseudospin singlet" formed by the J_{eff}=1/2 Kramers doublet, which thus contains inter-orbital as we…
Zero temperature crossover from superfluidity to superconductivity with carrier density increasing is studied for a two-dimensional system in the s-wave and d-wave pairing channels. It was assumed that the particle attraction correlation length depends on carrier density $n_f$ as $r_0\sim1/\sqrt{n_f}$. Such a dependence was found experimentally for the radius of magnetic correlations in $La_{2-x}Sr_xCuO_4$. The short range Coulomb repulsion was also taken into account. It is shown that the behaviour of the system with doping is fundamentally different from the case with $r_0(n_f)=const$. In pa…
Superconductivity occurs in electrochemically doped molybdenum dichalcogenides samples thicker than four layers. While the critical temperature (Tc) strongly depends on the field effect geometry (single or double gate) and on the sample (MoS2 or MoSe2), Tc always saturates at high doping. The pairing mechanism and the complicate dependence of Tc on doping, samples and field-effect geometry are currently not understood. Previous theoretical works assumed homogeneous doping of a single layer and attributed the Tc saturation to a charge density wave instability, however the calculated values of t…
We investigated the infrared optical spectra of an organic dimer Mott insulator $κ$-(BEDT-TTF)$_{2}$Cu[N(CN)$_{2}$]Cl, which was irradiated with X-rays. We observed that the irradiation caused a large spectral weight transfer from the mid-infrared region, where interband transitions in the dimer and Mott-Hubbard bands take place, to a Drude part in a low-energy region; this caused the Mott gap to collapse. The increase of the Drude part indicates a carrier doping into the Mott insulator due to irradiation defects. The strong redistribution of the spectral weight demonstrates that the organic M…
Pd site doping effect on superconductivity was investigated in quasi-one-dimensional superconductor Nb2(Pd1-xRx)0.76S5 (R=Ir, Ag) by measuring resistivity, magnetic susceptibility and Hall effect. It was found that superconducting transition temperature (Tc) is firstly slightly enhanced by partial substitution of Pd with Ir and then it is suppressed gradually as Ir content increases further. Meanwhile Ag substitution quickly suppresses the system to a nonsuperconducting ground state. Hall effect measurements indicate the variations of charge carrier density caused by Ir or Ag doping. The estab…
In doped SrTiO$_{3}$ superconductivity persists down to an exceptionally low concentration of mobile electrons. This restricts the relevant energy window and possible pairing scenarios. We present a study of quantum oscillations and superconducting transition temperature, $T_{c}$ as the carrier density is tuned from $10^{17}$ to $10^{20}$ $cm^{-3}$ and identify two critical doping levels corresponding to the filling thresholds of the upper bands. At the first critical doping, which separates the single-band and the two-band superconducting regimes in oxygen-deficient samples, the steady increa…
We show that antiferromagnetic spin-density wave order in the two-dimensional Hubbard model yields a drop of the charge carrier density as observed in recent transport measurements for cuprate superconductors in high magnetic fields upon entering the pseudogap regime. The amplitude and the (generally incommensurate) wave vector of the spin-density wave is obtained from dynamical mean-field theory (DMFT). An extrapolation of the finite temperature results to zero temperature yields an approximately linear doping dependence of the magnetic gap $Δ(p) \propto p^*-p$ in a broad doping range below t…
We have investigated the fluorine-doping dependence of lattice constants, transports and specific heat for polycrystalline LaFePO1-xFx. F doping slightly and monotonically decreases the in-plane lattice parameter. In the normal state, electrical resistivity at low temperature is proportional to the square of temperature and the electronic specific heat coefficient has large value, indicating the existence of moderate electron-electron correlation in this system. Hall coefficient has large magnitude, and shows large temperature dependence, indicating the low carrier density and multiple carrier…
We report a strategy to induce superconductivity in the BiS$_2$-based compound LaOBiS$_2$. Instead of substituting F for O, we increase the charge-carrier density (electron dope) via substitution of tetravalent Th$^{+4}$, Hf$^{+4}$, Zr$^{+4}$, and Ti$^{+4}$ for trivalent La$^{+3}$. It is found that both the LaOBiS$_2$ and ThOBiS$_2$ parent compounds are bad metals and that superconductivity is induced by electron doping with \emph{T$_c$} values of up to 2.85 K. The superconducting and normal states were characterized by electrical resistivity, magnetic susceptibility, and heat capacity measure…
We investigated the type of the carriers doped in the CuO$_2$-planes of non-superconducting Pr$_{1+x}$Ba$_{2-x}$Cu$_3$O$_7$ single crystals by nuclear magnetic resonance of Pr and chain-site Cu. The different spectra in the solid solution system show that the holes in Pr-rich crystals are localized in states similar to the ones in stoichiometric samples, that is in the $4f^2-2pπ$-hybridization band proposed by Fehrenbacher and Rice. In contrast, the spectra of crystals prepared under conditions favoring Ba-rich phases indicate the presence of holes in Zhang-Rice singlets in the CuO$_2$-plane. …
The transition metal dichalcogenide (TMD) $1T$-TaS$_{2}$ exhibits a rich set of charge density wave (CDW) orders. Recent investigations suggested that using light or electric field can manipulate the commensurate (C) CDW ground state. Such manipulations are considered to be determined by the charge carrier doping. Here we simulate by first-principles calculations the carrier doping effect on CCDW in $1T$-TaS$_{2}$. We investigate the charge doping effects on the electronic structures and phonon instabilities of $1T$ structure and analyze the doping induced energy and distortion ratio variation…
Recently, hole-doped superconducting cuprates with the T'-structure La1.8-xEu0.2SrxCuO4 (LESCO) have attracted a lot of attention. We have performed x-ray photoemission and absorption spectroscopy measurements on as-grown and reduced T0-LESCO. Results show that electrons and holes were doped by reduction annealing and Sr substitution, respectively. However, it is shown that the system remains on the electron-doped side of the Mott insulator or that the charge-transfer gap is collapsed in the parent compound.

Kagome metals AV3Sb5 (A = K, Rb, and Cs) exhibit a unique superconducting ground state coexisting with charge-density wave (CDW), whereas how these characteristics are affected by carrier doping remains unexplored because of the lack of an efficient carrier-doping method. Here we report successful electron doping to CsV3Sb5 by Cs dosing, as visualized by angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy. We found that the electron doping with Cs dosing proceeds in an orbital-selective way, as characterized by a marked increase in electron filling of the Sb 5pz and V 3dxz/yz bands as opposed to relativ…
We investigate the currently debated issue concerning whether transition metal substitutions dope carriers in iron based superconductors. From first-principles calculations of the configuration-averaged spectral function of BaFe$_2$As$_2$ with disordered Co/Zn substitutions of Fe, important doping effects are found beyond merely changing the carrier density. While the chemical potential shifts suggest doping of a large amount of carriers, a reduction of the coherent carrier density is found due to the loss of spectral weight. Therefore, none of the change in the Fermi surface, density of state…
The recent discovery of superconductivity in Nd$_{1-x}$Sr$_{x}$NiO$_2$ has drawn significant attention in the field. A key open question regards the evolution of the electronic structure with respect to hole doping. Here, we exploit x-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) and resonant inelastic x-ray scattering (RIXS) to probe the doping dependent electronic structure of the NiO$_2$ planes. Upon doping, a higher energy feature in Ni $L_3$ edge XAS develops in addition to the main absorption peak. By comparing our data to atomic multiplet calculations including $D_{4h}$ crystal field, the doping in…
Thus far, there is no cuprate system where both n-type and p-type charge carriers can be doped without changing the crystallographic structure. For studying the electron-hole symmetry in an identical structure, we try to dope n-type carriers to YBa2Cu3Oy system by reducing oxygen content and substituting La3+ ions for Ba2+. Single crystals of La-doped YBa2Cu3Oy are grown by a flux method with Y2O3 crucibles and it is confirmed that La actually substitutes \~13% of Ba. The oxygen content y can be varied between 6.21 and 6.95 by annealing the crystals in an atmosphere with controlled oxygen part…
Transport of charge carriers can be controlled by doping through chemical and physical means. Unlike chemical doping, physical doping is carried out by a special technique through gate voltages in a field-effect transistor geometry. This technique keeps the carrier channels free from defects without complications from the crystalline structure and the dopant impurity sites. In this paper we discuss the occurrence of superconductivity at the interface of a device by an unconventional technique. We examine a dynamical pairing mechanism governed by the excitons in the active device. The pairing o…
We study thermal and electrical transport in metals and superconductors near a quantum phase transition where antiferromagnetic order disappears. The same theory can also be applied to quantum phase transitions involving the loss of certain classes of intrinsic topological order. For a clean superconductor, we recover and extend the well-known universal results. The heat conductivity for commensurate and incommensurate antiferromagnetism coexisting with superconductivity shows a markedly different doping dependence near the quantum critical point, thus allowing to distinguish the states. In th…
Starting from a spin-fermion model for the cuprate superconductors, we obtain an effective interaction for the charge carriers by integrating out the spin degrees of freedom. Our model predicts a quantum critical point for the superconducting interaction coupling, which sets up a threshold for the onset of superconductivity in the system. We show that the physical value of this coupling is below this threshold, thus explaining why there is no superconducting phase for the undoped system. Then, by including doping, we find a dome-shaped dependence of the critical temperature as charge carriers …
We present results on heavily underdoped Y_1-xCa_xBa_2Cu_3O_6+y which provide the evidence that the doping mechanism (cation substitution or oxygen loading) directly determines whether the corresponding injected mobile holes contribute to superconductivity or only to the normal metallic properties. We argue that this hole tagging calls for a subtler description of the correlated bands than the usual one. We also map in great detail the underdoped superconducting phase diagram T_c vs. hole doping which shows that the number of mobile holes is not the critical parameter for the superconductivity…
In the framework of a two-band model, we study the phase separation regime of different kinds of strongly correlated charge carriers as a function of the energy splitting between the two sets of bands. The narrow (wide) band simulates the more localized (more delocalized) type of charge carriers. By assuming that the internal chemical pressure on the CuO$_2$ layer due to interlayer mismatch controls the energy splitting between the two sets of states, the theoretical predictions are able to reproduce the regime of phase separation at doping higher than 1/8 in the experimental pressure-doping-$…
Superconductivity of high critical temperature ($T_{c}$) superconductors is usually realized through chemical dopant or application of pressure in a similar way to induce charge carriers of either electrons or holes into their parent compounds. For chemical doping, superconductivity behaves asymmetrically with the maximum $T_{c}$ often higher for optimal hole-doping than that of optimal electron-doping on the same parent compound. However, whether electron carriers could be in favour of higher $T_{c}$ than holes in such high-$T_{c}$ superconductors is unknown but attractive. Here we show that …
