We present a panchromatic study of luminosity functions (LFs) and stellar mass functions (SMFs) of galaxies in the core of the Shapley supercluster at z=0.048, in order to investigate how the dense environment affects the galaxy properties, such as star formation (SF) or stellar masses. We find that while faint-end slopes of optical and NIR LFs steepen with decreasing density, no environment effect is found in the slope of the SMFs. This suggests that mechanisms transforming galaxies in different environments are mainly related to the quench of SF rather than to mass-loss. The Near-UV (NUV) and Far-UV (FUV) LFs obtained have steeper faint-end slopes than the local field population, while the 24$μ$m and 70$μ$m galaxy LFs for the Shapley supercluster have shapes fully consistent with those obtained for the local field galaxy population. This apparent lack of environmental dependence for the infrared (IR) LFs suggests that the bulk of the star-forming galaxies that make up the observed cluster IR LF have been recently accreted from the field and have yet to have their SF activity significantly affected by the cluster environment.
We present panoramic Spitzer/MIPS mid- and far-infrared and GALEX ultraviolet imaging of the the most massive and dynamically active system in the local Universe, the Shapley supercluster at z=0.048, covering the 5 clusters which make up the supercluster core. We combine these data with existing spectroscopic data from 814 confirmed supercluster members to produce the first study of a local rich cluster including both ultraviolet and infrared luminosity functions (LFs). This joint analysis allows us to produce a complete census of star-formation (both obscured and unobscured), extending down t…
We use extreme value statistics to assess the significance of two of the most dramatic structures in the local Universe: the Shapley supercluster and the Sloan Great Wall. If we assume that Shapley (volume ~ 1.2 x 10^5 (Mpc/h)^3) evolved from an overdense region in the initial Gaussian fluctuation field, with currently popular choices for the background cosmological model and the shape and amplitude sigma8 of the initial power spectrum, we estimate that the total mass of the system is within 20 percent of 1.8 x 10^16 Msun/h. Extreme value statistics show that the existence of this massive conc…
We present a database and velocity catalogue towards the region of the Shapley Supercluster based on 18,146 measured velocities for 10,719 galaxies in the approximately 300 square degree area between 12h 43mn 00s < R.A. < 14h 17mn 00s and -23° 30' 00" < Dec < -38° 30' 00". The data catalogue contains velocities from the literature found until 2015. It also includes 5,084 velocities, corresponding to 4,617 galaxies, observed by us at Las Campanas and CTIO observatories and not reported individually until now. Of these, 2,585 correspond to galaxies with no other previously published velocity mea…
We present a joint analysis of panoramic Spitzer/MIPS mid-infrared and GALEX ultraviolet imaging of the Shapley supercluster at z=0.048. Combining this with spectra of 814 supercluster members and 1.4GHz radio continuum maps, this represents the largest complete census of star-formation (both obscured and unobscured) in local cluster galaxies to date, reaching SFRs~0.02Msun/yr. We take advantage of this comprehensive panchromatic dataset to perform a detailed analysis of the nature of star formation in cluster galaxies, using several quite independent diagnostics of the quantity and intensity …
We present the NIR luminosity (LF) and stellar mass functions (SMF) of galaxies in the core of the Shapley supercluster at z=0.048, based on new K-band observations in conjunction with B- and R-band photometry and a subsample of ~650 galaxies spectroscopically confirmed supercluster members, allowing to investigate the galaxies down to M_K^*+6 and M=10^8.75 M_sun. For the 3 deg^2 field the K-band LF is described by a Schechter function with M_K^*=-24.96+-0.10 and α=-1.42+-0.03. We investigate the effect of environment by deriving the LF in three regions selected according to the local galaxy d…
The Shapley Supercluster ($\langle z \rangle\approx0.048$) contains several tens of gravitationally bound clusters and groups, making it it is an ideal subject for radio studies of cluster mergers. We used new high sensitivity radio observations to investigate the less energetic events of mass assembly in the Shapley Supercluster from supercluster down to galactic scales. We created total intensity images of the full region between A 3558 and A 3562, from $\sim 230$ to $\sim 1650$ MHz, using ASKAP, MeerKAT and the GMRT, with sensitivities ranging from $\sim 6$ to $\sim 100$ $μ$Jy beam$^{-1}$. …
Suzaku performed observations of 3 regions in and around the Shapley supercluster: a region located between A3558 and A3556, at ~0.9 times the virial radii of both clusters, and two other regions at 1°and 4°away from the first pointing. The 4°-offset observation was used to evaluate the Galactic foreground emission. We did not detect significant redshifted Oxygen emission lines (O VII and O VIII) in the spectra of all three pointings, after subtracting the contribution of foreground and background emission. An upper limit for the redshifted O VIII Ka line intensity of the warm-hot intergalacti…
We present a 23deg$^2$ weak gravitational lensing survey of the Shapley supercluster core and its surroundings using $gri$ VST images as part of the Shapley Supercluster Survey (ShaSS). This study reveals the overall matter distribution over a region containing 11 clusters at $z{\sim}0.048$ that are all interconnected, as well as several ongoing cluster-cluster interactions. Galaxy shapes have been measured by using the Kaiser-Squires-Broadhurst method for the $g$- and $r$-band images and background galaxies were selected via the $gri$ colour-colour diagram. This technique has allowed us to de…
Looking at the region connecting two clusters is a promising way to identify and study the Warm-Hot Intergalactic Medium. Observations show that the spectrum of the bridge between A3556 and A3558 has a stronger soft X-ray emission than the nearby region. Suzaku observations could not discriminate the origin of the extra emission. In this work we analyze a dedicated Chandra observation of the same target to identify point sources and characterize the background emission in the bridge. We find that the count number of the point sources is much higher than average field population (using CDFS~4~M…
We use high signal-to-noise spectroscopy for a sample of 232 quiescent galaxies in the Shapley Supercluster, to investigate how their stellar populations depend on velocity dispersion, luminosity and stellar mass. The sample spans a large range in velocity dispersion (sigma from 30-300 km/s) and in luminosity (M_R from -18.7 to -23.2). Estimates of age, total metallicity (Z/H) and alpha-element abundance ratio (a/Fe) were derived from absorption-line analysis, using single-burst models. Age, Z/H and a/Fe are all correlated positively with velocity dispersion, but we also find significant resid…
We study the morphology, luminosity and mass of the superclusters from the BOSS Great Wall (BGW), a recently discovered very rich supercluster complex at the redshift $z = 0.47$. We have employed the Minkowski functionals to quantify supercluster morphology. We calculate supercluster luminosities and masses using two methods. Firstly, we used data about the luminosities and stellar masses of high stellar mass galaxies with $\log(M_*/h^{-1}M_\odot) \geq 11.3$. Secondly, we applied a scaling relation that combines morphological and physical parameters of superclusters to obtain supercluster lumi…
Superclusters of galaxies can be defined kinematically from local evaluations of the velocity shear tensor. The location where the smallest eigenvalue of the shear is positive and maximal defines the center of a basin of attraction. Velocity and density fields are reconstructed with Wiener Filter techniques. Local velocities due to the density field in a restricted region can be separated from external tidal flows, permitting the identification of boundaries separating inward flows toward a basin of attraction and outward flows. This methodology was used to define the Laniakea Supercluster tha…
We determine the galaxy infrared (IR) luminosity function (LF) as a function of the environment in a supercluster at z=0.23, using optical, near-IR, and mid- to far-IR photometry, as well as redshifts from optical spectroscopy. We identify 467 supercluster members in a sample of 24-micron-selected galaxies, on the basis of their spectroscopic (153) and photometric (314) redshifts. IR luminosities, stellar masses and star formation rates (SFRs) are determined for supercluster members via spectral energy distribution fitting and the Kennicutt relation. Galaxies with active galactic nuclei are ex…
Here we report the discovery of an extremely massive and large supercluster (called Saraswati) found in the Stripe 82 region of SDSS. This supercluster is a major concentration of galaxies and galaxy clusters, forming a wall-like structure spanning at least 200 Mpc across at the redshift $z \approx 0.3$. This enormous structure is surrounded by a network of galaxy filaments, clusters, and large, $\sim40 - 170$ Mpc diameter, voids. The mean density contrast $δ$ (relative to the background matter density of the universe) of Saraswati is $\gtrsim 1.62$ and the main body of the supercluster compri…
We present the first supercluster catalogue constructed with the extended ROSAT-ESO Flux Limited X-ray Galaxy Cluster survey (REFLEX II) data, which comprises 919 X-ray selected galaxy clusters. Based on this cluster catalogue we construct a supercluster catalogue using a friends-of-friends algorithm with a linking length depending on the local cluster density. The resulting catalogue comprises 164 superclusters at redshift z<=0.4. We study the properties of different catalogues such as the distributions of the redshift, extent and multiplicity by varying the choice of parameters. In addition …
We study the relations between the multimodality of galaxy clusters drawn from the SDSS DR8 and the environment where they reside. As cluster environment we consider the global luminosity density field, supercluster membership, and supercluster morphology. We use 3D normal mixture modelling, the Dressler-Shectman test, and the peculiar velocity of cluster main galaxies as signatures of multimodality of clusters. We calculate the luminosity density field to study the environmental densities around clusters, and to find superclusters where clusters reside. We determine the morphology of superclu…

We studied superclusters of galaxies in a volume-limited sample extracted from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey Data Release 7 (SDSS/DR7) and from mock catalogues based on a semi-analytical model of galaxy evolution in the Millenium Simulation. A density field method was applied to a sample of galaxies brighter than $M_r= -21+5 \log h_{100}$ to identify superclusters, taking into account selection and boundary effects. In order to evaluate the influence of threshold density, we have chosen two thresholds: the first maximizes the number of objects (D1), and the second constrains the maximum supercl…
We use Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE) data covering the entire region (~130 deg^2) of the A2199 supercluster at z=0.03 to study the mid-infrared (MIR) properties of supercluster galaxies. We identify a `MIR star-forming sequence' in the WISE [3.4]-[12] color-12 μm luminosity diagram, consisting of late-type, star-forming galaxies. At a fixed star formation rate (SFR), the MIR-detected galaxies at 22 μm or 12 μm tend to be more metal rich and to have higher surface brightness than those without MIR detection. Using these MIR-detected galaxies, we construct the IR luminosity function…
We study the morphology of a set of superclusters drawn from the SDSS DR7. We calculate the luminosity density field to determine superclusters from a flux- limited sample of galaxies from SDSS DR7, and select superclusters with 300 and more galaxies for our study. The morphology of superclusters is described with the fourth Minkowski functional V3, the morphological signature (the curve in the shapefinder's K1-K2 plane) and the shape parameter (the ratio of the shapefinders K1/K2). We investigate the supercluster sample using multidimensional normal mixture modelling, and use Abell clusters t…
We have constructed a set of supercluster catalogues for the galaxies from the SDSS survey main and luminous red galaxy (LRG) flux-limited samples. To delineate superclusters, we calculated luminosity density fields using the B3-spline kernel of the radius of 8 Mpc/h for the main sample and 16 Mpc/h for the LRG sample and define regions with densities over a selected threshold as superclusters, while utilising almost the whole volume of both samples. We created two types of catalogues, one with an adaptive local threshold and a set of catalogues with different global thresholds. We describe th…
We study the large-scale structure with superclusters from the REFLEX X-ray cluster survey together with cosmological N-body simulations. It is important to construct superclusters with criteria such that they are homogeneous in their properties. We lay out our theoretical concept considering future evolution of superclusters in their definition, and show that the X-ray luminosity and halo mass functions of clusters in superclusters are found to be top-heavy, different from those of clusters in the field. We also show a promising aspect of using superclusters to study the local cluster bias an…
We study the distribution, masses, and dynamical properties of galaxy groups in the A2142 supercluster. We analyse the global luminosity density distribution in the supercluster and divide the supercluster into the high-density core and the low-density outskirts regions. We find galaxy groups and filaments in the regions of different global density, calculate their masses and mass-to-light ratios and analyse their dynamical state with several 1D and 3D statistics. We use the spherical collapse model to study the dynamical state of the supercluster. We show that in A2142 supercluster groups and…
We report a list of groups consisting of dwarf galaxies only. The sample contains 126 objects, mainly combined in pairs. The most populated group contains six dwarf galaxies. The majority of systems considered reside in the low-density regions and evolve unaffected by massive galaxies. The characteristic sizes and velocity dispersions of groups are 30 kpc and 11 km/s, respectively. They resemble the associations of dwarf galaxies, but are more compact. On the whole, groups and associations form a continuous sequence. Alike the associations, our groups possess high mass-to-luminosity ratios, wh…
We have investigated the structure of the Hercules supercluster (SCL160) based on data originally extracted from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey SDSS-DR7. We have traced the mass distribution in the field through the numerical density-weighted by the $r^\prime$-luminosity of the galaxies and classified them based on their spatial position and redshift. This has allowed us not only to address the kinematics of the supercluster as a whole, but also the internal kinematic of each cluster, which was no further explored before. We have confirmed that the Hercules supercluster is composed of the galaxy…
We present a list of 75 isolated late-type dwarf galaxies which have no neighbors with a relative radial velocity difference of less than 500 km/s or projected separations within 500 kpc. These were selected from $\sim$2000 dwarf galaxies with radial velocities $V_{LG}<3500$ km/s within the volume of the Local supercluster. In terms of their sizes, luminosities, and the amplitudes of their internal motions, the isolated late-type dwarfs do not differ significantly from gas-rich dwarf galaxies in groups and clusters. However, the median mass of neutral hydrogen per unit luminosity for the isola…
Superclusters are the largest, observed matter density structures in the Universe. Recently Chon et al.(2013) presented the first supercluster catalogue constructed with a well-defined selection function based on the X-ray flux-limited cluster survey, REFLEX II. For the construction of the sample we proposed a concept to find the large objects with a minimum overdensity such that most of their mass will collapse in the future. The main goal of the paper is to provide support for our concept using simulations that we can, on the basis of our observational sample of X-ray clusters, construct a s…
We introduce a new test to study the Cosmological Principle with galaxy clusters. Galaxy clusters exhibit a tight correlation between the luminosity and temperature of the X-ray-emitting intracluster medium. While the luminosity measurement depends on cosmological parameters through the luminosity distance, the temperature determination is cosmology-independent. We exploit this property to test the isotropy of the luminosity distance over the full extragalactic sky, through the normalization $a$ of the $L_X-T$ scaling relation and the cosmological parameters $Ω_m$ and $H_0$. We use two almost …
Majority of all galaxies reside in groups of less than 50 member galaxies. These groups are distributed in various large-scale environments from voids to superclusters. Evolution of galaxies is affected by the environment in which they reside. Our aim is to study the effects that the local group scale and the supercluster scale environment have on galaxies. We use a luminosity-density field to determine density of the large-scale environment of galaxies in groups of various richness. We calculate fractions of different types of galaxies in groups with richnesses up to 50 member galaxies and in…
The RCS 2319+00 supercluster is a massive supercluster at z=0.9 comprising three optically selected, spectroscopically confirmed clusters separated by <3 Mpc on the plane of the sky. This supercluster is one of a few known examples of the progenitors of present-day massive clusters (10^{15} Msun by z~0.5). We present an extensive spectroscopic campaign carried out on the supercluster field resulting, in conjunction with previously published data, in 1961 high confidence galaxy redshifts. We find 302 structure members spanning three distinct redshift walls separated from one another by ~65 Mpc.…
Context: In 2.2m MPG-ESO/WFI data we discovered several mass peaks through weak lensing, forming a possible supercluster at redshift 0.45. Through multi-colour wide-field imaging with CFHT/Megaprime and INT/WFC we identify early-type galaxies and trace the supercluster network with them. Through EMMI/NTT multi-object spectroscopy we verify the initial shear-selected cluster candidates. Using weak lensing we obtain mass estimates for the supercluster centre and the filaments. Results: We identified the centre of the SCL2243-0935 supercluster, MACS J2243-0935, which was found independently by Eb…
We present the results of the study of the morphology and galaxy content of the Sloan Great Wall (SGW). We use the luminosity density field to determine superclusters in the SGW, and the fourth Minkowski functional V_3 and the morphological signature (the K_1-K_2 shapefinders curve) to show the different morphologies of the SGW, from a single filament to a multibranching, clumpy planar system. The richest supercluster in the SGW, SCl~126 and especially its core resemble a very rich filament, while another rich supercluster in the SGW, SCl~111, resembles a "multispider" - an assembly of high de…
We analyze the properties of the clusters of galaxies in the region of the Ursa Major (UMa) supercluster using observational data from SDSS and 2MASS catalogs. The region studied includes a supercluster (with a galaxy and cluster overdensity of 3 and 15, respectively) and field clusters inside the 150 Mpc diameter surrounding region. The total dynamical mass of 10 clusters of galaxies in UMa is equal to 2.25 10^15 M_sun, and the mass of 11 clusters of galaxies in the UMa neighborhood is equal to 1.70 10^15 M_sun. The fraction of early-type galaxies brighter than M_K*+1 in the virialized region…

The Perseus-Pisces supercluster is known as one of the largest structures in the nearby Universe that has been charted by the galaxy and galaxy cluster distributions. For the latter mostly clusters from the Abell catalogue have been used. Here we take a new approach to a quantitative characterisation of the Perseus-Pisces supercluster using a statistically complete sample of X-ray luminous galaxy groups and clusters from our CLASSIX galaxy cluster redshift survey. We used a friends-of-friends technique to construct the supercluster membership. We also studied the structure of the Southern Grea…
For the first time spectroscopic galaxy redshift surveys are reaching the scales where galaxies can be studied together with the nearest quasars. This gives an opportunity to study the dependence between the activity of a quasar and its environment in a more extensive way than before. We study the spatial distribution of galaxies and groups of galaxies in the environments of low redshift quasars in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS). Our aim is to understand how the nearby quasars are embedded in the local and global density field of galaxies and how the environment affects quasar activity. W…
We study the properties, connectivity, and galaxy content of groups and filaments in the low-density region (cocoon) around A2142 supercluster (SClA2142). We traced the SClA2142 cocoon boundaries by the lowest luminosity-density regions that separate SClA2142 from other superclusters. We determined galaxy filaments and groups in the cocoon and analysed the connectivity of groups, the high density core (HDC) of the supercluster, and the whole of the supercluster. We compared the distribution and properties of galaxies with different star-formation properties in the supercluster and in the cocoo…

The XXL Survey is the largest homogeneous and contiguous survey carried out with XMM-Newton. Covering an area of 50 square degrees distributed over two fields, it primarily investigates the large-scale structures of the Universe using the distribution of galaxy clusters and active galactic nuclei as tracers of the matter distribution. Given its depth and sky coverage, XXL is particularly suited to systematically unveiling the clustering of X-ray clusters and to identifying superstructures in a homogeneous X-ray sample down to the typical mass scale of a local massive cluster. A friends-of-frie…
We investigate the properties of the 525 spectroscopically confirmed members of the Cl1604 supercluster at z~0.9 as part of the Observations of Redshift Evolution in Large Scale Environments (ORELSE) survey. Using extensive Keck LRIS/DEIMOS spectroscopy in conjunction with ten-band ground-based, Spitzer, and HST imaging, we investigate the buildup of the red sequence in groups and clusters at high redshift. Nearly all of the brightest and most massive red-sequence galaxies are found within the bounds of the clusters and groups. Despite the prevalence of these red-sequence galaxies, we find tha…
To investigate the dependence of the occurrence of active galactic nuclei (AGNs) on local galaxy density, we study the nuclear properties of ~5000 galaxies in the Coma Supercluster whose density spans 2 orders of magnitude from the sparse filaments to the cores of the rich clusters. We obtained optical spectra of the nuclei of 177 galaxies using the 1.5m Cassini telescope, which are added to the 4785 spectra available from SDSS (DR7) to fill-in the incomplete coverage by SDSS of luminous galaxies. We perform a spectral classification of the nuclei of galaxies (with a completeness of 98% at r<1…
We study the mid-infrared (MIR) properties of the galaxies in the A2199 supercluster at z = 0.03 to understand the star formation activity of galaxy groups and clusters in the supercluster environment. Using the Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer data, we find no dependence of mass-normalized integrated SFRs of galaxy groups/clusters on their virial masses. We classify the supercluster galaxies into three classes in the MIR color-luminosity diagram: MIR blue cloud (massive, quiescent and mostly early-type), MIR star-forming sequence (mostly late-type), and MIR green valley galaxies. These MIR…
We present results of a spectroscopic search for Lyman-alpha emitters (LAEs) in the Cl1604 supercluster field using the extensive spectroscopic Keck/DEIMOS database taken as part of the Observations of Redshift Evolution in Large Scale Environments (ORELSE) survey. A total of 12 slitmasks were observed and inspected in the Cl1604 field, spanning a survey volume of 1.365x10^4 co-moving Mpc^3. We find a total of 17 high redshift (4.39 < z < 5.67) LAE candidates down to a limiting flux of 1.9x10^(-18) ergs/s/cm (~0.1L* at z~5), 13 of which we classify as high quality. The resulting LAE number den…
We present a study of internal stellar population gradients in early-type cluster galaxies. Using the VLT VIMOS integral field unit, we observed 19 galaxies in the core of the Shapley Supercluster (z = 0.048). The radial trends in nine absorption lines (HdF to Fe5406) were measured to the effective radius for 14 galaxies, from which we derived the gradients in age, total metallicity and alpha-element over-abundance. We combine these with results from 11 galaxies studied in our previous VIMOS work (Rawle et al 2008). We observe a mean metallicity gradient of -0.13 +/- 0.04 per dex and, in commo…
We derive peculiar velocities for the 6dF Galaxy Survey (6dFGS) and describe the velocity field of the nearby ($z<0.055$) southern hemisphere. The survey comprises 8885 galaxies for which we have previously reported Fundamental Plane data. We obtain peculiar velocity probability distributions for the redshift space positions of each of these galaxies using a Bayesian approach. Accounting for selection bias, we find that the logarithmic distance uncertainty is 0.11 dex, corresponding to $26\%$ in linear distance. We use adaptive kernel smoothing to map the observed 6dFGS velocity field out to $…
We confirm the detection of 3 groups in the Lynx supercluster, at z~1.3, and give their redshifts and masses. We study the properties of the group galaxies as compared to the central clusters, RXJ0849+4452 and RXJ0848+4453, selecting 89 galaxies in the clusters and 74 galaxies in the groups. We morphologically classify galaxies by visual inspection, noting that our early-type galaxy (ETG) sample would have been contaminated at the 30% -40% level by simple automated classification methods (e.g. based on Sersic index). In luminosity selected samples, both clusters and groups show high fractions …
We study the influence of the environment on the evolution of galaxies by investigating the luminosity function (LF) of galaxies of different morphological types and colours at different environmental density levels. We construct the LFs separately for galaxies of different morphology (spiral and elliptical) and of different colours (red and blue) using data from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS), correcting the luminosities for the intrinsic absorption. We use the global luminosity density field to define different environments, and analyse the environmental dependence of galaxy morphology …
The fully nonlinear gravitationally induced trajectories of a nearly complete set of galaxies, groups, and clusters in the Local Supercluster are constructed in a Numerical Action Method (NAM) model constrained by data from the CosmicFlows survey and various distance indicators. We add the gravity field due to inhomogeneities external to the sample sphere by making use of larger scale peculiar flow measurements. Assignments of total masses were made to find the best overall set of mutual attractions, as determined by a goodness criterion based on present day radial velocities, individually for…
We propose a new approach to the missing baryons problem. Building on the common assumption that the missing baryons are in the form of the Warm Hot Intergalactic Medium (WHIM), we further assumed here that the galaxy luminosity density can be used as a tracer of the WHIM. The latter assumption is supported by our finding of a significant correlation between the WHIM density and the galaxy luminosity density in the hydrodynamical simulations of Cui et al. (2012). We further found that the fraction of the gas mass in the WHIM phase is substantially (by a factor of $\sim$1.6) higher within the l…
We constructed a Bayesian hyper-parameter statistical method to quantify the difference between predicted velocities derived from the observed galaxy distribution in the \textit{IRAS}-PSC$z$ redshift survey and peculiar velocities measured using different distance indicators. In our analysis we find that the model--data comparison becomes unreliable beyond $70 \hmpc$ because of the inadequate sampling by \textit{IRAS} survey of prominent, distant superclusters, like the Shapley Concentration. On the other hand, the analysis of the velocity residuals show that the PSC$z$ gravity field provides …
Properties of galaxies depend on their large-scale environment. As the influence of active galactic nuclei (AGN) in galaxy evolution is becoming more evident, their large scale environments may help us understand the evolutionary processes leading to activity. The effect of activity can be seen particularly by showing if different types of active galaxies are formed by similar mechanisms. Our aim is to study the supercluster-scale environments of active galaxies up to redshift 0.4. Our data includes quasars, BL Lac objects, Seyfert and radio galaxies. We use a three-dimensional low-resolution …

Using a MeerKAT observation of the galaxy cluster A3562 (a member of the Shapley Supercluster), we have discovered a narrow, long and straight, very faint radio filament, which branches out at a straight angle from the tail of a radio galaxy located in projection near the core of the cluster. The radio filament spans 200 kpc and aligns with a sloshing cold front seen in the X-rays, staying inside the front in projection. The radio spectral index along the filament appears uniform (within large uncertainties) at $α\simeq -1.5$. We propose that the radio galaxy is located outside the cold front,…
