We consider evolutionary equations of the form $u_t=F(u, w)$ where $w=D_x^{-1}D_yu$ is the nonlocality, and the right hand side $F$ is polynomial in the derivatives of $u$ and $w$. The recent paper \cite{FMN} provides a complete list of integrable third order equations of this kind. Here we extend the classification to fifth order equations. Besides the known examples of Kadomtsev-Petviashvili (KP), Veselov-Novikov (VN) and Harry Dym (HD) equations, as well as fifth order analogues and modifications thereof, our list contains a number of equations which are apparently new. We conjecture that our examples exhaust the list of scalar polynomial integrable equations with the nonlocality $w$. The classification procedure consists of two steps. First, we classify quasilinear systems which may (potentially) occur as dispersionless limits of integrable scalar evolutionary equations. After that we reconstruct dispersive terms based on the requirement of the inheritance of hydrodynamic reductions of the dispersionless limit by the full dispersive equation.
We solve the classification problem for integrable lattices of the form $u_{,t}=f(u_{-2},\dots,u_2)$ under the additional assumption of invariance with respect to the group of linear-fractional transformations. The obtained list contains 5 equations, including 3 new. Difference Miura type substitutions are found which relate these equations with known polynomial lattices. We also present some classification results for the generic lattices.
For an arbitrary semisimple Frobenius manifold we construct Hodge integrable hierarchy of Hamiltonian partial differential equations. In the particular case of quantum cohomology the tau-function of a solution to the hierarchy generates the intersection numbers of the Gromov--Witten classes and their descendents along with the characteristic classes of Hodge bundles on the moduli spaces of stable maps. For the one-dimensional Frobenius manifold the Hodge hierarchy is a deformation of the Korteweg--de Vries hierarchy depending on an infinite number of parameters. Conjecturally this hierarchy is…
We extend the symbolic representation to the ring of N=1 supersymmetric differential polynomials, and demonstrate that operations on the ring, such as the super derivative, Frechet derivative and super commutator, can be carried out in the symbolic way. Using the symbolic representation, we classify scalar $λ$-homogeneous N=1 supersymmetric evolutionary equations with nonzero linear term when $λ>0$ for arbitrary order and give a comprehensive description of all such integrable equations.
For some involutive maps $Φ:{\mathbb C}P^1 \times {\mathbb C}P^1 \to {\mathbb C}P^1 \times {\mathbb C}P^1$ we find all invariants with separated variables. We investigate a link of the maps and their invariants with separated variables to discrete integrable systems. Maps correspond to integrable systems on edges (bond systems), while their invariants with separated variables yields potentials of the bond systems, that allows us to rewrite the integrable sytems as models on vertices. Among the latter ones one can find well known integrable difference equations as well as difference relations, …
It was shown recently that Frobenius reduction of the matrix fields reveals interesting relations among the nonlinear Partial Differential Equations (PDEs) integrable by the Inverse Spectral Transform Method ($S$-integrable PDEs), linearizable by the Hoph-Cole substitution ($C$-integrable PDEs) and integrable by the method of characteristics ($Ch$-integrable PDEs). However, only two classes of $S$-integrable PDEs have been involved: soliton equations like Korteweg-de Vries, Nonlinear Shrödinger, Kadomtsev-Petviashvili and Davey-Stewartson equations, and $GL(N,\CC)$ Self-dual type PDEs, like Ya…
We show that evolutionary Hirota type Euler-Lagrange equations in (2+1) dimensions have a symplectic Monge-Ampère form. We consider integrable equations of this type in the sense that they admit infinitely many hydrodynamic reductions and determine Lax pairs for them. For two seven-parameter families of integrable equations converted to two-component form we have constructed Lagrangians, recursion operators and bi-Hamiltonian representations. We have also presented a six-parameter family of tri-Hamiltonian systems.
We extend the reduction group method to the Lax-Darboux schemes associated with nonlinear Schrödinger type equations. We consider all possible finite reduction groups and construct corresponding Lax operators, Darboux transformations, hierarchies of integrable differential-difference equations, integrable partial difference systems and associated scalar partial difference equations.
We propose a method for construction of Darboux transformations, which is a new development of the dressing method for Lax operators invariant under a reduction group. We apply the method to the vector sine-Gordon equation and derive its Bäcklund transformations. We show that there is a new Lax operator canonically associated with our Darboux transformation resulting an evolutionary differential-difference system on a sphere. The latter is a generalised symmetry for the chain of Bäcklund transformations. Using the re-factorisation approach and the Bianchi permutability of the Darboux transform…
We address the problem of classification of integrable differential-difference equations in 2+1 dimensions with one/two discrete variables. Our approach is based on the method of hydrodynamic reductions and its generalisation to dispersive equations. We obtain a number of classification results of scalar integrable equations including that of the intermediate long wave and Toda type.
We prove that arbitrary (nonpolynomial) scalar evolution equations of order $m\ge 7$, that are integrable in the sense of admitting the canonical conserved densities $\ro^{(1)}$, $\ro^{(2)}$, and $\ro^{(3)}$ introduced in [MSS,1991], are polynomial in the derivatives $u_{m-i}$ for $i=0,1,2.$ We also introduce a grading in the algebra of polynomials in $u_k$ with $k\ge m-2$ over the ring of functions in $x,t,u,...,u_{m-3}$ and show that integrable equations are scale homogeneous with respect to this grading.
We provide a concise introduction to the symmetry approach to integrability. Some results on integrable evolution and systems of evolution equations are reviewed. Quasi-local recursion and Hamiltonian operators are discussed. We further describe non-abelian integrable equations, especially matrix (ODE and PDE) systems. Some non-evolutionary integrable equations are studied using a formulation of formal recursion operators that allows to study non-diagonalisable systems of evolution equations.
In this paper, we first give a short account on the indecomposable sl(2,C) modules in the Bernstein-Gelfand-Gelfand (BGG) category O. We show these modules naturally arise for homogeneous integrable nonlinear evolutionary systems. We then develop an approach to construct master symmetries for such integrable systems. This method naturally enables us to compute the hierarchy of time-dependent symmetries. We finally illustrate the method using both classical and new examples. We compare our approach to the known existing methods used to construct master symmetries. For the new integrable equatio…
The examples are considered of integrable hyperbolic equations of third order with two independent variables. In particular, an equation is found which admits as evolutionary symmetries the Krichever--Novikov equation and the modified Landau--Lifshitz system. The problem of choice of dynamical variables for the hyperbolic equations is discussed.
We propose a new method for solution of the integrability problem for evolutionary differential-difference equations of arbitrary order. It enables us to produce necessary integrability conditions, to determine whether a given equation is integrable or not, and to advance in classification of integrable equations. In this paper we define and develop symbolic representation for the difference polynomial ring, difference operators and formal series. In order to formulate necessary integrability conditions, we introduce a novel quasi-local extension of the difference ring. It enables us to progre…
We consider differential-difference equations that determine the continuous symmetries of discrete equations on the triangular lattice. It is shown that a certain combination of continuous flows can be represented as a scalar evolution lattice equation of order 2. The general scheme is illustrated by a number of examples, including an analog of the elliptic Yamilov lattice equation.
We study normal forms of scalar integrable dispersive (non necessarily Hamiltonian) conservation laws via the Dubrovin-Zhang perturbative scheme. Our computations support the conjecture that such normal forms are parametrised by infinitely many arbitrary functions that can be identified with the coefficients of the quasilinear part of the equation. More in general, we conjecture that two scalar integrable evolutionary PDEs having the same quasilinear part are Miura equivalent. This conjecture is also consistent with the tensorial behaviour of these coefficients under general Miura transformati…
Scalar multidimensionally consistent quadrilateral lattice equations are studied. We explore a confluence between the superposition principle for solutions related by the Backlund transformation, and the method of solving a Riccati map by exploiting two kn own particular solutions. This leads to an expression for the N-soliton-type solutions of a generic equation within this class. As a particular instance we give an explicit N-soliton solution for the primary model, which is Adler's lattice equation (or Q4).
The infinite many symmetries of Davey-Stewartson (DS) system are closely connected to the integrable deformations of surfaces in a four-dimensional space. In this paper, we give a direct algorithm to construct the expression of the DS hierarchy by two scalar pseudo-differential operators involving partial derivatives.
Integrable spin systems possess interesting geometrical and gauge invariance properties and have important applications in applied magnetism and nanophysics. They are also intimately connected to the nonlinear Schrödinger family of equations. In this paper, we identify three different integrable spin systems in (2 + 1) dimensions by introducing the interaction of the spin field with more than one scalar potential, or vector potential, or both. We also obtain the associated Lax pairs. We discuss various interesting reductions in (2 + 1) and (1 + 1) dimensions. We also deduce the equivalent nonl…
We obtain general solutions for some flat Friedmann universes filled with a scalar field in induced gravity models and models including the Hilbert-Einstein curvature term plus a scalar field conformally coupled to gravity. As is well known, these models are connected to minimally coupled models through the combination of a conformal transformation and a transformation of the scalar field. The explicit forms of the self-interaction potentials for six exactly solvable models are presented here. We obtain the general solution for one of the integrable models, namely, the induced gravity model wi…
A one-parameter generalization of the hierarchy of negative flows is introduced for integrable hierarchies of evolution equations, which yields a wider (new) class of non-evolutionary integrable nonlinear wave equations. As main results, several integrability properties of these generalized negative flow equation are established, including their symmetry structure, conservation laws, and bi-Hamiltonian formulation. (The results also apply to the hierarchy of ordinary negative flows). The first generalized negative flow equation is worked out explicitly for each of the following integrable equa…
In arXiv:1704.05807, it was shown that the planar flavored ABJM theory is integrable in the scalar sector at two-loop order using coordinate Bethe ansatz. A salient feature of this case is that the boundary reflection matrices are anti-diagonal with respect to the chosen basis. In this paper, we relax the coefficients of the boundary terms to be general constants in order to search for integrable systems among this class. We found that at each end of the spin chain, the only integrable boundary interaction, besides the one in arXiv:1704.05807, is the one with vanishing boundary interactions le…
Starting from integrable $su(2)$ (quasi-)spin Richardson-Gaudin XXZ models we derive several properties of integrable spin models coupled to a bosonic mode. We focus on the Dicke-Jaynes-Cummings-Gaudin models and the two-channel $(p+ip)$-wave pairing Hamiltonian. The pseudo-deformation of the underlying $su(2)$ algebra is here introduced as a way to obtain these models in the contraction limit of different Richardson-Gaudin models. This allows for the construction of the full set of conserved charges, the Bethe Ansatz state, and the resulting Richardson-Gaudin equations. For these models an al…
We present a method for linearising classes of matrix-valued nonlinear partial differential equations with local and nonlocal nonlinearities. Indeed we generalise a linearisation procedure originally developed by Pöppe based on solving the corresponding underlying linear partial differential equation to generate an evolutionary Hankel operator for the `scattering data', and then solving a linear Fredholm equation akin to the Marchenko equation to generate the evolutionary solution to the nonlinear partial differential system. Our generalisation involves inflating the underlying linear partial …
We build a number of integrable one--scalar spatially flat cosmologies, which play a natural role in inflationary scenarios, examine their behavior in several cases and draw from them some general lessons on this type of systems, whose potentials involve combinations of exponential functions, and on similar non--integrable ones. These include the need for the scalar to emerge from the initial singularity while climbing up sufficiently steep exponential potentials ("climbing phenomenon") and the inevitable collapse in a big Crunch whenever the scalar tries to settle at negative extrema of the p…
We investigate the relation between pluri-Lagrangian hierarchies of $2$-dimensional partial differential equations and their variational symmetries. The aim is to generalize to the case of partial differential equations the recent findings in [Petrera, Suris. J. Nonlinear Math. Phys. 24:sup1, 121--145 (2017)] for ordinary differential equations. We consider hierarchies of $2$-dimensional Lagrangian PDEs (many of which have a natural $(1+1)$-dimensional space-time interpretation) and show that if the flow of each PDE is a variational symmetry of all others, then there exists a pluri-Lagrangian …
