We give a direct proof that all Higman-Thompson groups of the form $G_{k,1}$ (for $k \ge 2$) are embedded in one another, which is a recent result of N. Matte Bon. This extends the embeddings given by Higman in 1974.

We prove that Thompson's group $V$ is acyclic, answering a 1992 question of Brown in the positive. More generally, we identify the homology of the Higman-Thompson groups $V_{n,r}$ with the homology of the zeroth component of the infinite loop space of the mod $n-1$ Moore spectrum. We investigate the connection between Tamari lattices and the Thompson group F, summarized in the fact that F is a group of fractions for a certain monoid F+sym whose Cayley graph includes all Tamari lattices. Under this correspondence, the Tamari lattice operations are the counterparts of the least common multiple and greatest common divisor operations in F+sym. As an application, we show that, for every n, there exists a length l chain in the nth Tamari lattice whose endpoints are at distance at most 12l/n.

We introduce a new distributional invariance principle, called `partial spreadability', which emerges from the representation theory of the Thompson monoid $F^+$ in noncommutative probability spaces. We show that a partially spreadable sequence of noncommutative random variables is adapted to a local Markov filtration. We show how to construct a family of groups with simple commutator subgroups from aperiodic 1-vertex, finitely aligned higher rank graphs (which are, in fact, a class of cancellative monoids). Inverse semigroups form the intermediary between these cancellative monoids and the family of groups we are interested in. These groups can naturally be viewed as higher-dimensional generalizations of the classical Thompson groups since the finite direct products of free monoids are examples of the appropriate 1-vertex higher rank graphs.
