Polynomials in this paper are defined starting from a compact semisimple Lie group. A known classification of maximal, semisimple subgroups of simple Lie groups is used to select the cases to be considered here. A general method is presented and all the cases of rank not greater then 3 are explicitly studied. We derive the polynomials of simple Lie groups B_3 and C_3 as they are not available elsewhere. The results point to far reaching Lie theoretical connections to the theory of multivariable orthogonal polynomials.
We give a complete description of the discrete spectra in the branching law $Π|_{G'}$ with respect to the pair $(G,G')=(O(p,q), O(p',q') \times O(p'',q''))$ for irreducible unitary representations $Π$ of $G$ that are "geometric quantization" of minimal elliptic coadjoint orbits. We also construct explicitly all holographic operators and prove a closed Parseval-type formula.

In this paper we study the sp(2m)-invariant Dirac operator Ds which acts on symplectic spinors, from an orthogonal point of view. By this we mean that we will focus on the subalgebra so(m), as this will allow us to derive branching rules for the space of 1-homogeneous polynomial solutions for the operator Ds (hence generalising the classical Fischer decomposition in harmonic analysis for a vector variable in Rm). To arrive at this result we use techniques from representation theory, including the transvector algebra Z(sp(4),so(4)) and tensor products of Verma modules.
We discuss the branching problem for generalized Verma modules $M_λ(\mathfrak g, \mathfrak p)$ applied to couples of reductive Lie algebras $\bar{\mathfrak g}\hookrightarrow \mathfrak g$. The analysis is based on projecting character formulas to quantify the branching, and on the action of the center of $U(\bar{\mathfrak g})$ to explicitly construct singular vectors realizing part of the branching. We demonstrate the results on the pair $\mathrm{Lie}G_2\hookrightarrow{so(7)}$ for both strongly and weakly compatible with $i(\mathrm {Lie} G_2)$ parabolic subalgebras and a large class of inducing…
We describe the branching of Lie algebras of classical type over $A_{n-1}$ using an inductive approach, which was motivated by the work of Gornitskii. This allows us to label the highest weight vectors of the modules occurring in the decomposition of the restriction of a finite-dimensional simple module to $A_{n-1}$ by lattice points of a string or a Lusztig polytope.
In this note, we formulate and prove branching rules of simple polynomial modules for the Lie superalgebra $\mathfrak{gl}(m|n)$. Our branching rules depend on the conjugacy class of the Borel subalgebra. A Gelfand-Tsetlin basis of a polynomial module associated to each Borel subalgebra is obtained in terms of generalized semistandard tableaux.
We study natural quantizations of branching coefficients corresponding to the restrictions of the classical Lie groups to their Levi subgroups. We show that they admit a stable limit which can be regarded as a $q$-analogue of a tensor product multiplicity. According to a conjecture by Shimozono, the stable one-dimensional sum for nonexceptional affine crystals are expected to occur as special cases of these $q$-analogues.
In this paper we give some branching rules for the fundamental representations of Kac--Moody Lie algebras associated to $T$-shaped graphs. These formulas are useful to describe generators of the generic rings for free resolutions of length three described in [JWm16]. We also make some conjectures about the generic rings.
The branching problem for a couple of non-compatible Lie algebras and their parabolic subalgebras applied to generalized Verma modules was recently discussed in \cite{ms}. In the present article, we employ the recently developed F-method, \cite{KOSS1}, \cite{KOSS2} to the couple of non-compatible Lie algebras $({\LieGtwo},{so(7)})$, and generalized conformal ${so(7)}$-Verma modules of scalar type. As a result, we classify the $\LieGtwo \cap \gop'$-singular vectors for this class of $so(7)$-modules.
For the orthogonal Lie algebra O(2n+1), in addition to the conventional set of orthogonal polynomials, another set is produced with the help of the Lie superalgebra OSP(1|2n). Difficulties related with expression of Dyson's constant for the Lie superalgebras are discussed.
We construct functors categorifying the branching rules for $U_q(\mathfrak{g})$ for $\mathfrak{g}$ of type $B_n$, $C_n$, and $D_n$ for the embeddings $so_{2n+1}\supset so_{2n-1}$, $sp_{2n}\supset sp_{2n-2}$, and $so_{2n}\supset so_{2n-2}$. We give the corresponding categorical Gelfand-Tsetlin basis.
Let g' and g be isomorphic to any two of the Lie algebras gl(infty), sl(infty), sp(infty), and so(infty). Let M be a simple tensor g-module. We introduce the notion of an embedding of g' into g of general tensor type and derive branching laws for triples g', g, and M, where the embedding of g' into g is of general tensor type. More precisely, since M is in general not semisimple as a g'-module, we determine the socle filtration of M over g'. Due to the description of embeddings of classical locally finite Lie algebras given by Dimitrov and Penkov, our results hold for all possible embeddings o…
In this paper we study branching laws for certain unitary representations. This is done on the smooth vectors via a version of the {\it period integrals}, studied in number theory, and also closely connected to the {\it symmetry-breaking operators}, introduced by T.~Kobayashi. We exhibit non-vanishing symmetry breaking operators for the restriction of a representation $Π$ in the discrete spectrum for real hyperboloids to representations of smaller orthogonal groups. In the last part we discuss some conjectures for the restriction of representations in Arthur packets containing the representati…
We study branching multiplicity spaces of complex classical groups in terms of GL(2) representations. In particular, we show how combinatorics of GL(2) representations are intertwined to make branching rules under the restriction of GL(n) to GL(n-2). We also discuss analogous results for the symplectic and orthogonal groups.
A root system is splint if it is a decomposition into a union of two root systems. Examples of such root systems arise naturally in studying embeddings of reductive Lie subalgebras into simple Lie algebras. Given a splint root system, one can try to understand its branching rule. In this paper we discuss methods to understand such branching rules, and give precise formulas for specific cases, including the restriction functor from the exceptional Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}_2$ to $\mathfrak{sl}_3$.
Splints of root system of simple lie algebras appears naturally on studies of embedding of reductive subalgebras. A splint can be used to construct a branching rules as implementation of this idea simplifies calculation of branching coefficient. We extend the concept of splints to classical lie superalgebras cases as these algebras have wide application in physics.
It is demonstrated that decompositions of integrable highest weight modules of a simple Lie algebra with respect to its reductive subalgebra obey the set of algebraic relations leading to the recursive properties for the corresponding branching coefficients. These properties are encoded in the special element (of the formal algebra E(g)) Gamma_(a ->g) that describes the injection and is called the fan. In the simplest case, when "a" is a Cartan subalgebra of g, the recursion procedure generates the weight diagram of the module L(g). When applied to a reduction of highest weight modules the rec…
In this note, we compute the homology with trivial coefficients of Lie algebras of generalized Jacobi matrices of type $B, C$ and $D$ over an associative unital $k$-algebra with $k$ being a field of characteristic $0$.
We give a uniform interpretation of the classical continuous Chebyshev's and Hahn's orthogonal polynomials of discrete variable in terms of Feigin's Lie algebra gl(N), where N is any complex number. One can similarly interpret Chebyshev's and Hahn's q-polynomials and introduce orthogonal polynomials corresponding to Lie superlagebras. We also describe the real forms of gl(N), quasi-finite modules over gl(N), and conditions for unitarity of the quasi-finite modules. Analogs of tensors over gl(N) are also introduced.
In 1971 Griffiths used a generating function to define polynomials in d variables orthogonal with respect to the multinomial distribution. The polynomials possess a duality between the discrete variables and the degree indices. In 2004 Mizukawa and Tanaka related these polynomials to character algebras and the Gelfand hypergeometric series. Using this approach they clarified the duality and obtained a new proof of the orthogonality. In the present paper, we interpret these polynomials within the context of the Lie algebra sl_{d+1}. Our approach yields yet another proof of the orthogonality. It…
The conformal transformations with respect to the metric defining the orthogonal Lie algebra o(n) give rise to a one-parameter (c) family of inhomogeneous first-order differential operator representations of the orthogonal Lie algebra o(n+2). Letting these operators act on the space of exponential-polynomial functions that depend on a parametric vector a, we prove that the space forms an irreducible o(n+2)-module for any constant c if the vector a is not on a certain hypersurface. By partially swapping differential operators and multiplication operators, we obtain more general differential ope…
This article is devoted to branching problems for holomorphic discrete series representations of a conformal group $G$ of a tube domain $T_Omega$ over a symmetric cone $Ω$. More precisely, we analyse restrictions of such representations to the conformal group $G'$ of a tube domain $T_{Ω'}$ holomorphically embedded in $T_Ω$. The goal of this work is the explicit construction of the symmetry breaking and holographic operators in this geometrical setting. To do so, a stratification space for a symmetric cone is introduced. This structure put the light on a new functional model, called the \emph{s…
A weight basis for each finite-dimensional irreducible representation of the orthogonal Lie algebra o(2n) is constructed. The basis vectors are parametrized by the D-type Gelfand--Tsetlin patterns. Explicit formulas for the matrix elements of generators of o(2n) in this basis are given. The construction is based on the representation theory of the Yangians and extends our previous results for the symplectic Lie algebras.
The orbits of Weyl groups W(A(n)) of simple A(n) type Lie algebras are reduced to the union of orbits of the Weyl groups of maximal reductive subalgebras of A(n). Matrices transforming points of the orbits of W(An) into points of subalgebra orbits are listed for all cases n<=8 and for the infinite series of algebra-subalgebra pairs A(n) - A(n-k-1) x A(k) x U(1), A(2n) - B(n), A(2n-1) - C(n), A(2n-1) - D(n). Numerous special cases and examples are shown.
Let $\mathcal{N}_{\mathfrak{g}^*}$ be the variety of nilpotent elements in the dual of the Lie algebra of a reductive algebraic group over an algebraically closed field. In \cite{Lu2} Lusztig proposes a definition of a partition of $\mathcal{N}_{\mathfrak{g}^*}$ into smooth locally closed subvarieties (which are indexed by the unipotent classes in the corresponding group over complex numbers) and gives explicit results in types $A$, $C$ and $D$. We discuss type $B$ in this note.
Splint of root system of simple Lie algebra appears naturally in the study of (regular) embeddings of reductive subalgebras. It can be used to derive branching rules. Application of splint properties drastically simplifies calculations of branching coefficients. We study affine extension of splint root system of simple Lie algebra and obtain relations on theta and branching functions.
In the paper we complete a case by case proof of Reeder's Conjecture started in our previous work, proving the conjecture for simple Lie algebras of type $D$ and for the exceptional cases.
The aim of our paper is to construct pseudo $H$-type algebras from the covering free nilpotent two-step Lie algebra as the quotient algebra by an ideal. We propose an explicit algorithm of construction of such an ideal by making use of a non-degenerate scalar product. Moreover, as a bypass result, we recover the existence of a rational structure on pseudo $H$-type algebras, which implies the existence of lattices on the corresponding pseudo $H$-type Lie groups. Our approach substantially uses combinatorics and reveals the interplay of pseudo $H$-type algebras with combinatorial and orthogonal …
Recursive algebraic construction of two infinite families of polynomials in $n$ variables is proposed as a uniform method applicable to every semisimple Lie group of rank $n$. Its result recognizes Chebyshev polynomials of the first and second kind as the special case of the simple group of type $A_1$. The obtained not Laurent-type polynomials are proved to be equivalent to the partial cases of the Macdonald symmetric polynomials. Basic relation between the polynomials and their properties follow from the corresponding properties of the orbit functions, namely the orthogonality and discretizat…
We present LieART 2.0 which contains substantial extensions to the Mathematica application LieART (Lie Algebras and Representation Theory) for computations frequently encountered in Lie algebras and representation theory, such as tensor product decomposition and subalgebra branching of irreducible representations. The basic procedure is unchanged: it computes root systems of Lie algebras, weight systems and several other properties of irreducible representations, but new features and procedures have been included to allow the extensions to be seamless. The new version of LieART continues to be…
Let $\mathfrak{g}$ be a complex simple Lie algebra and let $\mathfrak{g}_0$ be the sub-algebra fixed by a diagram automorphism of $\mathfrak{g}$. Let $G$ be the complex, simply-connected, simple algebraic group with Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$, and let $G_0$ be the connected subgroup of $G$ with Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}_0$. Let $ρ$ be the half sum of positive roots of $\mathfrak{g}$. In this article, we give a necessary and sufficient condition for a highest weight $\mathfrak{g}_0$-representation $V_0(dμ)$ to occur in the representation ${\rm res}_{\mathfrak{g}_0}V(dρ)$, for any saturation fac…

Let $G$ be a semisimple Lie group and let $\g =\n_- +\hh +\n$ be a triangular decomposition of $\g= \hbox{Lie}\,G$. Let $\b =\hh +\n$ and let $H,N,B$ be Lie subgroups of $G$ corresponding respectively to $\hh,\n$ and $\b$. We may identify $\n_-$ with the dual space to $\n$. The coadjoint action of $N$ on $\n_-$ extends to an action of $B$ on $\n_-$. There exists a unique nonempty Zariski open orbit $X$ of $B$ on $\n_-$. Any $N$-orbit in $X$ is a maximal coadjoint orbit of $N$ in $\n_-$. The cascade of orthogonal roots defines a cross-section $\r_-^{\times}$ of the set of such orbits leading to…
Building on the work of P.N. Norton, we give combinatorial formulae for two maximal decompositions of the identity into orthogonal idempotents in the $0$-Hecke algebra of the symmetric group, $\mathbb{C}H_0(S_N)$. This construction is compatible with the branching from $S_{N-1}$ to $S_{N}$.
The purpose of this paper is to prove Duflo's conjecture for $(G,π, AN)$ where $G$ is a simple Lie group of Hermitian type and $π$ is a discrete series of $G$ and $AN$ is the maximal exponential solvable subgroup for an Iwasawa decomposition $G=KAN$. This is essentially reduced from the following general theorem we prove in this paper: let $G$ be a connected semisimple Lie group . Then a strongly elliptic $G$-coadjoint orbit $\mathcal{O}$ is holomorphic if and only if $\text{p}(\mathcal{O})$ is an open $AN$-coadjoint orbit, where $\text{p} : \mathfrak{g}^* \longrightarrow (\mathfrak{a}\oplus\m…
Let k be a field of characteristic not two or three, let $\mathfrak{g}$ be a finite-dimensional colour Lie algebra and let V be a finite-dimensional representation of $\mathfrak{g}$. In this article we give various ways of constructing a colour Lie algebra $\tilde{\mathfrak{g}}$ whose bracket in some sense extends both the bracket of $\mathfrak{g}$ and the action of $\mathfrak{g}$ on V. Colour Lie algebras, originally introduced by R. Ree ([Ree60]), generalise both Lie algebras and Lie superalgebras, and in those cases our results imply many known results ([Kos99], [Kos01], [CK15], [SS15]). Fo…
Let $\gg$ be the Lie algebra of a compact Lie group and let $θ$ be any automorphism of $\gg$. Let $\gk$ denote the fixed point subalgebra $\gg^θ$. In this paper we present LiE programs that, for any finite dimensional complex representation $π$ of $\gg$, give the explicit branching $π|_\gk$ of $π$ on $\gk$. Cases of special interest include the cases where $θ$ has order 2 (corresponding to compact riemannian symmetric spaces $G/K$), where $θ$ has order 3 (corresponding to compact nearly--kaehler homogeneous spaces $G/K$), where $θ$ has order 5 (which include the fascinating 5--symmetric space …
In this lecutre note, we consider infinite dimensional Lie algebras of generalized Jacobi matrices $\mathfrak{g}J(k)$ and $\mathfrak{gl}_\infty(k)$, which are important in soliton theory, and their orthogonal and symplectic subalgebras. In particular, we construct the homology ring of the Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}J(k)$ and of the orthogonal and symplectic subalgebras.
Linear codes with large minimal distances are important error correcting codes in information theory.Orthogonal codes have more applications in the other fields of mathematics. In this paper, we study the binary and ternary orthogonal codes generated by the weight matrices on finite-dimensional modules of simple Lie algebras. The Weyl groups of the Lie algebras act on these codes isometrically. It turns out that certain weight matrices of $sl(n,\mbb{C})$ and $o(2n,\mbb{C})$ generate doubly-even binary orthogonal codes and ternary orthogonal codes with large minimal distances. Moreover, we prov…
Classical invariants for representations of one Lie group can often be related to invariants of some other Lie group. Physics suggests that the right objects to consider for these questions are certain refinements of classical invariants known as conformal blocks. Conformal blocks appear in algebraic geometry as spaces of global sections of line bundles on the moduli stack of parabolic bundles on a smooth curve. Rank-level duality connects a conformal block associated to one Lie algebra to a conformal block for a different Lie algebra. In this paper we prove a rank-level duality for type so(2r…
The orbits of Weyl groups W(B(n)), W(C(n)) and W(D(n)) of the simple Lie algebras B(n), C(n) and D(n) are reduced to the union of the orbits of Weyl groups of the maximal reductive subalgebras of B(n), C(n) and D(n). Symplectic (respectively orthogonal) triple systems provide constructions of Lie algebras (resp. superalgebras). However, in characteristic 3, it is shown that this role can be interchanged and that Lie superalgebras (resp. algebras) can be built out of symplectic triple systems (resp. orthogonal triple systems) with a different construction. As a consequence, new simple finite dimensional Lie superalgebras, as well as new models of some nonclassical simple Lie algebras, are obtained over fields of characteristic 3.
Splint is a decomposition of root system into union of root systems. Splint of root system for simple Lie algebra appears naturally in studies of (regular) embeddings of reductive subalgebras. Splint can be used to construct branching rules. We consider special embedding of Lie subalgebra to Lie algebra. We classify projections of algebra root systems using extended Dynkin diagrams and single out the conditions of splint appearance and coincidence of branching coefficients with weight multiplicities. While such a coincidence is not very common it is connected with Gelfand-Tsetlin basis.
We prove the equivalence of two presentations of the Yangian $Y(\mathfrak{g})$ of a simple Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ and we also show the equivalence with a third presentation when $\mathfrak{g}$ is either an orthogonal or a symplectic Lie algebra. As an application, we obtain an explicit correspondence between two versions of the classification theorem of finite-dimensional irreducible modules for orthogonal and symplectic Yangians.
Let $G$ be a group and $H$ be a subgroup of $G$. The classical branching rule (or symmetry breaking) asks: For an irreducible representation $π$ of $G$, determine the occurrence of an irreducible representation $σ$ of $H$ in the restriction of $π$ to $H$. The reciprocal branching problem of this classical branching problem is to ask: For an irreducible representation $σ$ of $H$, find an irreducible representation $π$ of $G$ such that $σ$ occurs in the restriction of $π$ to $H$. For automorphic representations of classical groups, the branching problem has been addressed by the well-known globa…
Let $G$ be a symplectic or special orthogonal group, let $H$ be a connected reductive subgroup of $G$, and let $X$ be a flag variety of $G$. We classify all triples $(G,H,X)$ such that the natural action of $H$ on $X$ is spherical. For each of these triples, we determine the restrictions to $H$ of all irreducible representations of $G$ realized in spaces of sections of homogeneous line bundles on $X$.
Following a question of Vinberg, a general method to construct monomial bases for finite-dimensional irreducible representations of a reductive Lie algebra was developed in a series of papers by Feigin, Fourier, and Littelmann. Relying on this method, we construct monomial bases of multiplicity spaces associated with the restriction of the representation to a reductive subalgebra. As an application, we produce monomial bases for representations of the general linear and symplectic Lie algebras associated with natural chains of subalgebras. We also show that our basis in type A is related to bo…
Deformed orthogonal and pseudo-orthogonal Lie algebras are constructed which differ from deformations of Lie algebras in terms of Cartan subalgebra and root vectors and which make it possible to construct representations by operators acting according to Gel'fand--Tsetlin-type formulas. Unitary representations of the q-deformed algebras U_q(so_{n,1}) are found.
If $G$ is a reductive Lie group of Harish-Chandra class, $H$ is a symmetric subgroup, and $π$ is a discrete series representation of $G$, the authors give a condition on the pair $(G,H)$ which guarantees that the direct integral decomposition of $π|_H$ contains each irreducible representation of $H$ with finite multiplicity. In addition, if $G$ is a reductive Lie group of Harish-Chandra class, and $H\subset G$ is a closed, reductive subgroup of Harish-Chandra class, the authors show that the multiplicity function in the direct integral decomposition of $π|_H$ is constant along `continuous para…
The conformal transformations with respect to the metric defining $o(n,\mbb{C})$ give rise to a nonhomogeneous polynomial representation of $o(n+2,\mbb{C})$. Using Shen's technique of mixed product, we generalize the above representation to a non-homogenous representation of $o(n+2,\mbb{C})$ on the tensor space of any finite-dimensional irreducible $o(n,\mbb{C})$-module with the polynomial space, where a hidden central transformation is involved. Moreover, we find a condition on the constant value taken by the central transformation such that the generalized conformal representation is irreduc…
Consider the restriction of an irreducible unitary representation $π$ of a Lie group $G$ to its subgroup $H$. Kirillov's revolutionary idea on the orbit method suggests that the multiplicity of an irreducible $H$-module $ν$ occurring in the restriction $π|_H$ could be read from the coadjoint action of $H$ on $O^G \cap pr^{-1}(O^H)$ provided $π$ and $ν$ are "geometric quantizations" of a $G$-coadjoint orbit $O^G$ and an $H$-coadjoint orbit $O^H$,respectively, where $pr: \sqrt{-1} g^{\ast} \to \sqrt{-1} h^{\ast}$ is the projection dual to the inclusion $h \subset g$ of Lie algebras. Such results…
