We perform quantitative spectral analysis on the Born equation, an integral equation for electromagnetic scattering that descends from the Maxwell equations. We establish norm bounds for the Green operator associated with the Born equation, thereby providing numerical tools for error estimates of the Born approximation to light scattering problems.
This work gives value to the importance of Hilbert-Schmidt operators in the formulation of a noncommutative quantum theory. A system of charged particle in a constant magnetic field is investigated in this framework.
Hilbert-Schmidt distance is one of the prominent distance measures in quantum information theory which finds applications in diverse problems, such as construction of entanglement witnesses, quantum algorithms in machine learning, and quantum state tomography. In this work, we calculate exact and compact results for the mean square Hilbert-Schmidt distance between a random density matrix and a fixed density matrix, and also between two random density matrices. In the course of derivation, we also obtain corresponding exact results for the distance between a Wishart matrix and a fixed Hermitian…
In the report we analyze the indicator/measure of classicality of quantum states defined as the probability to find a state with a positive Wigner function within a unitary invariant random ensemble. The indicators of classicality of three ensembles associated with the Hilbert-Schmidt, Bures and Bogoliubov-Kubo-Mori metrics on the space of quantum states of 3-level system are computed. Their dependence on a moduli parameter of the Wigner function is studied for all strata of a qutrit state space stratified in accordance with the unitary group action.
The trace distance between two quantum states, $ρ$ and $σ$, is an operationally meaningful quantity in quantum information theory. However, in general it is difficult to compute, involving the diagonalization of $ρ- σ$. In contrast, the Hilbert-Schmidt distance can be computed without diagonalization, although it is less operationally significant. Here, we relate the trace distance and the Hilbert-Schmidt distance with a bound that is particularly strong when either $ρ$ or $σ$ is low rank. Our bound is stronger than the bound one could obtain via the norm equivalence of the Frobenius and trace…
We prove that for every semigroup of Schwarz maps on the von~Neumann algebra of all bounded linear operators on a Hilbert space which has a subinvariant faithful normal state there exists an associated semigroup of contractions on the space of Hilbert-Schmidt operators of the Hilbert space. Moreover, we show that if the original semigroup is weak$^*$ continuous then the associated semigroup is strongly continuous. We introduce the notion of the extended generator of a semigroup on the bounded operators of a Hilbert space with respect to an orthonormal basis of the Hilbert space. We describe th…
We present a general construction of non-Gaussian probability measures on the space of distributional kernels obeying a natural extension of the Osterwalder-Schrader axioms of Euclidean quantum field theory in arbitrary space-time dimension $d$. These measures may be interpreted as corresponding to scalar massive quantum fields with polynomial self-interaction. As a consequence, we obtain examples of non-free models satisfying the Haag-Kastler axioms of algebraic quantum field theory for arbitrary $d$. When $d<4$ we are able to transfer the measures to the space of distributions and verify the…
We begin by investigating relationships between two forms of Hilbert-Schmidt two-re[al]bit and two-qubit "separability functions"--those recently advanced by Lovas and Andai (J. Phys. A 50 [2017] 295303), and those earlier presented by Slater (J. Phys. A 40 [2007] 14279). In the Lovas-Andai framework, the independent variable $\varepsilon \in [0,1]$ is the ratio $σ(V)$ of the singular values of the $2 \times 2$ matrix $V=D_2^{1/2} D_1^{-1/2}$ formed from the two $2 \times 2$ diagonal blocks ($D_1, D_2$) of a $4 \times 4$ density matrix $D$. In the Slater setting, the independent variable $μ$ i…
We reexamine a recent analysis in which, using the volume of the associated quantum steering ellipsoid (QES) as a measure, we sought to estimate the probability that a two-qubit state is separable. In the estimation process, we, in effect, sought to attach to states random with respect to Hilbert-Schmidt (HS) measure, the corresponding QES volumes. However, a study of the relations between HS and Bures ensembles and their well-supported separability probabilities of $\frac{8}{33}$ and $\frac{25}{341}$, respectively, now lead us to explore as a possible alternative measure, the QES volume divid…
In this report we are aiming at introducing a global measure of non-classicality of the state space of $N$-level quantum systems and estimating it in the limit of large $N$. For this purpose we employ the Wigner function negativity as a non-classicality criteria. Thus, the specific volume of the support of negative values of Wigner function is treated as a measure of non-classicality of an individual state. Assuming that the states of an $N$-level quantum system are distributed by Hilbert-Schmidt measure (Hilbert-Schmidt ensemble), we define the global measure as the average non-classicality o…
We employ a quasirandom methodology, recently developed by Martin Roberts, to estimate the separability probabilities, with respect to the Bures (minimal monotone/statistical distinguishability) measure, of generic two-qubit and two-rebit states. This procedure, based on generalized properties of the golden ratio, yielded, in the course of almost seventeen billion iterations (recorded at intervals of five million), two-qubit estimates repeatedly close to nine decimal places to $\frac{25}{341} =\frac{5^2}{11 \cdot 31} \approx 0.073313783$. Howeer, despite the use of over twenty-three billion it…
We implement a procedure-based on the Wishart-Laguerre distribution-recently outlined by {Ż}yczkowski and Khvedelidze, Rogojin and Abgaryan, for the generation of random (complex or real) $N \times N$ density matrices of rank $k \leq N$ with respect to Hilbert-Schmidt (HS) measure. In the complex case, one commences with a Ginibre matrix $A$ of dimensions $k \times k+ 2 (N-k)$, while for a real scenario, one employs a Ginibre matrix $B$ of dimensions $k \times k+1+ 2 (N-k)$. Then, the $k \times k$ product $A A^{\dagger}$ or $B B^T$ is diagonalized-padded with zeros to size $N \times N$-and rot…
