It is well known that there is a Hawking radiation from the cosmological horizon of the de-sitter spacetime, and the de-sitter spacetime can be a special case of a FRW universe. Therefore, there may be a corresponding Hawking radiation in a FRW universe. Indeed, there have been several clues showing that there is a Hawking radiation from the apparent horizon of a FRW universe. In our paper, however, we find that the Hawking radiation may come from the cosmological horizon. Moreover, we also find that the Hawking radiation from the apparent horizon of a FRW universe in some previous works can be a special case in our result, and the condition is that the variation rate of cosmological horizon $\overset{.}{r}_{H}$ is zero. Note that, this condition is also consistent with the underlying integrable condition in these works from the apparent horizon.
The Friedman-Robertson-Walker (FRW) space-time exhibits particle creation similar to Hawking radiation of a black hole. In this essay we show that this FRW Hawking radiation leads to an effective negative pressure fluid which can drive an inflationary period of exponential expansion in the early Universe. Since the Hawking temperature of the FRW space-time decreases as the Universe expands this mechanism naturally turns off and the inflationary stage transitions to a power law expansion associated with an ordinary radiation dominated Universe.
We study Hawking-like radiation in a Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) universe using the quasi-classical WKB/tunneling method which pictures this process as a "tunneling" of particles from behind the apparent horizon. The correct temperature of the Hawking-like radiation from the FRW spacetime is obtained using a canonical invariant tunneling amplitude. In contrast to the usual quantum mechanical WKB/tunneling problem where the tunneling amplitude has only a spatial contribution, we find that the tunneling amplitude for FRW spacetime (i.e. the imaginary part of the action) has both spatial and…
In this paper, we investigate the thermodynamics especially the Hawking-Page-like phase transition of the McVittie space-time. We formulate the first law of thermodynamics for the McVittie black hole, and find that the work density $W$ of the perfect fluid plays the role of the thermodynamic pressure, i.e. $P$:=$-W$. We also construct the thermodynamic equation of state for the McVittie black hole. Most importantly, by analysing the Gibbs free energy, we find that the Hawking-Page-like phase transition from FRW spacetime to McVittie black hole is possible in the case $P>0$.
Hawking radiation is an important quantum phenomenon of black hole, which is closely related to the existence of event horizon of black hole. The cosmological event horizon of de Sitter space is also of the Hawking radiation with thermal spectrum. By use of the tunneling approach, we show that there is indeed a Hawking radiation with temperature, $T=1/2π\tilde r_A$, for locally defined apparent horizon of a Friedmann-Robertson-Walker universe with any spatial curvature, where $\tilde r_A$ is the apparent horizon radius. Thus we fill in the gap existing in the literature investigating the relat…
The idea of Verlinde that gravity is an entropic force caused by information changes associated with the positions of material bodies, is used in the present work for the FRW model of the Universe. Using modified Hawking temperature, the Friedmann equations are derived on any horizon. For the validity of the first law of thermodynamics (i.e., Clausius relation) it is found that there is modification of Bekenstein entropy on the horizon. However, using equipartition law of energy, Bekenstein entropy is recovered.
In this paper we study Hawking-like radiation in a FRW-Universe using semi-classical tunnelling approach and the Hamilton-Jacobi method. Radial null geodesics are used to picture the process as a "tunnelling" of particles from behind the apparent horizon and Hawking -like temperature has been calculated. Quantum corrections have been evaluated in the Hamilton-Jacobi Method by solving Klein-Gordan wave equation and the temperature agrees at the semiclassical level. Also it is found that Hamilton-Jacobi formalism does not depend on the choice of the coordinate system. Finally, leading order corr…
In the paper [arXiv:0809.1554], the scalar particles' Hawking radiation from the apparent horizon of Friedmann-Robertson-Walker(FRW) universe was investigated by using the tunneling formalism. They obtained the Hawking temperature associated with the apparent horizon, which was extensively applied in investigating the relationship between the first law of thermodynamics and Friedmann equations. In this paper, we calculate Fermions' Hawking radiation from the apparent horizon of FRW universe via tunneling formalism. Applying WKB approximation to the general covariant Dirac equation in FRW space…
We present a phenomenological model for baryogenesis based on particle creation in the Friedman-Robertson-Walker (FRW) spacetime. This study is a continuation of our proposal that Hawking-like radiation in FRW space-time explains several physical aspects of the early Universe including inflation. In this model we study a coupling between the FRW space-time, in the form of the derivative of the Ricci scalar, and the $B-L$ current, $J^μ _{B-L}$, which leads to a different chemical potential between baryons and anti-baryons resulting in an excess of baryons over anti-baryons with the right order …
We present a model for cosmological inflation which has a natural "turn on" and a natural "turn off" mechanism. In our model inflation is driven by the Hawking-like radiation that occurs in Friedman-Robertson-Walker (FRW) space-time. This Hawking-like radiation results in an effective negative pressure "fluid" which leads to a rapid period of expansion in the very early Universe. As the Universe expands the FRW Hawking temperature decreases and the inflationary expansion turns off and makes a natural transition to the power law expansion of a radiation dominated universe. The "turn on" mechani…
We investigate the validity of the generalized second law of gravitational thermodynamics on the apparent and event horizons in a non-flat FRW universe containing the interacting dark energy with dark matter. We show that for the dynamical apparent horizon, the generalized second law is always satisfied throughout the history of the universe for any spatial curvature and it is independent of the equation of state parameter of the interacting dark energy model. Whereas for the cosmological event horizon, the validity of the generalized second law depends on the equation of state parameter of th…
In an accelerated expanding universe, one can expect the existence of an event horizon. It may be interesting to study the thermodynamics of the Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) universe at the event horizon. Considering the usual Hawking temperature, the first law of thermodynamics does not hold on the event horizon. To satisfy the first law of thermodynamics, it is necessary to redefine Hawking temperature. In this paper, using the redefinition of Hawking temperature and applying the first law of thermodynamics on the event horizon, the Friedmann equations are obtained in f(R) gravity from t…
In this paper we revisit the topic of Hawking radiation as tunneling. We show that the imaginary part of the action of the tunneling particle should be reconstructed in a covariant way, as a line integral along the classical forbidden trajectory of tunneling particles. As the quantum tunneling phenomenon, the probability of tunneling is related to the imaginary part of the action for the classical forbidden trajectory. We do the calculations for massless and massive particles, in Schwarzschild coordinate and Painlevé coordinate. The construction of particle action is invariant under coordinate…
The formal Ermakov approach for empty FRW minisuperspace cosmological models of arbitrary Hartle-Hawking factor ordering and the corresponding squeezing features are briefly discussed as a possible means of describing cosmological evolution
The Friedmann equation in the Friedmann-Robertson-Walker(FRW) universe with any spatial curvature is derived from the first law of thermodynamics on the event horizon. The key idea is to redefine a Hawking temperature on the event horizon. Furthermore, we obtain the evolution equations of the universe including the quantum correction and explore the evolution of the universe in the $f(R)$ gravity. In addition, we also investigate the generalized second law of thermodynamics in Einstein gravity and the $f(R)$ gravity. This perspective also implies that the first law of thermodynamics on the eve…
We assume the non-flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) Universe as a thermodynamical system. We assume the cosmological horizon as a inner trapping horizon which is treated as dynamical apparent horizon of FRW Universe. We write the dynamical apparent horizon radius and temperature on the apparent horizon. We assume that the fluid pressure as thermodynamical pressure of the system. Using Hayward's unified first law, Clausius relation and Friedmann equations with cosmological constant, we obtain the entropy on the apparent horizon. We assume that the cosmological constant provides the thermody…
In this article we investigate the Hawking radiation of vector particles from the apparent horizon of a Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) universe in the framework of quantum tunneling method. Furthermore we use Proca equation, a relativistic wave equation for a massive/massless spin-1 particle (massless $γ$ photons, weak massive $W^{\pm}$ and $Z^{0}$ bosons, strong massless gluons and $ρ$ and $ω$ mesons) together with a Painlevé spacetime metric for the FRW universe. We solve the Proca equation via Hamilton-Jacobi (HJ) equation and the WKB approximation method. We recover the same result for t…
In this paper we revisit the relation between the Friedmann equations and the first law of thermodynamics. We find that the unified first law firstly proposed by Hayward to treat the "outer"trapping horizon of dynamical black hole can be used to the apparent horizon (a kind of "inner" trapping horizon in the context of the FRW cosmology) of the FRW universe. We discuss three kinds of gravity theorties: Einstein theory, Lovelock thoery and scalar-tensor theory. In Einstein theory, the first law of thermodynamics is always satisfied on the apparent horizon. In Lovelock theory, treating the highe…
The Wheeler-DeWitt equation for empty FRW minisuperspace universes of Hartle-Hawking factor ordering parameter Q=0 is mapped onto the dynamics of a unit mass classical oscillator. The latter is studied by the classical Ermakov invariant method. Angle quantities are presented in the same context
Cosmological perturbations of FRW solutions in ghost free massive bigravity, including also a second matter sector, are studied in detail. At early time, we find that sub horizon exponential instabilities are unavoidable and they lead to a premature departure from the perturbative regime of cosmological perturbations.
We consider the claim of Hawking and Page that the canonical measure applied to a FRW universe with a massive scalar field can solve the flatness problem regardless of inflation. By considering a general potential we are able to understand how the ambiguity for $Ω$ found by Page in the $R^2$ theory is present when the potential is bounded from above. We suggests reasons why such potentials are realistic. The ambiguity for the possibility of inflation present in the Gibbons- Hawking- Stewart measure can be resolved by an input from Quantum cosmology. We contrast the resulting measure obtained i…
Recently, a Hamilton-Jacobi method beyond semiclassical approximation in black hole physics was developed by \emph{Banerjee} and \emph{Majhi}\cite{beyond0}. In this paper, we generalize their analysis of black holes to the case of Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) universe. It is shown that all the higher order quantum corrections in the single particle action are proportional to the usual semiclassical contribution. The corrections to the Hawking-like temperature and entropy of apparent horizon for FRW universe are also obtained. In the corrected entropy, the area law involves logarithmic area…
It is shown that the differential form of Friedmann equation of a FRW universe can be rewritten as a universal form $dE = TdS + WdV$ at apparent horizon, where $E$ and $V$ are the matter energy and volume inside the apparent horizon (the energy $E$ is the same as the Misner-Sharp energy in the case of Einstein general relativity), $W=(ρ-P)/2$ is the work density and $ρ$ and $P$ are energy density and pressure of the matter in the universe, respectively. From the thermodynamic identity one can derive that the apparent horizon has associated entropy $S= A/4G$ and temperature $T = κ/ 2π$ in Einst…
Modak and Singleton [Phys. Rev. D 86, 123515 (2012)] have presented Hawking-like radiation for cosmological inflation which has a natural "turn on" and a natural "turn off" mechanism. This Hawking-like radiation results in an effective negative pressure "fluid" which leads to a rapid period of expansion in the very early Universe. We discuss that the turn on mechanism can not happen for FRW model in early universe because its horizon is apparent horizon not event horizon. Hence, we cannot apply geometric optic approximation which is a necessary condition for tunneling method. It was shown that…
I present the factorization(s) of the Wheeler-DeWitt equation for vacuum FRW minisuperspace universes of arbitrary Hartle-Hawking factor ordering, including the so-called strictly isospectral supersymmetric method. By the latter means, one can introduce an infinite class of singular FRW minisuperspace wavefunctions characterized by a Darboux parameter that mathematically speaking is a Riccati integration constant, while physically determines the position of these strictly isospectral singularities on the Misner time axis
In the Big Rip cosmological scenario, a FRW universe containing dark energy with $w < -1$ in its equation of state (phantom energy) expands in such way that, in a finite time span, the scale factor diverges to infinity and the size of the cosmic horizon goes to zero. Here we revisit this scenario in light of the fact that Hawking radiation is expected to be generated at the apparent horizon of a FRW universe, and show that the energy density and temperature of that radiation both diverge at the Big Rip. We then use this fact to propose a new variant of Penrose's conformal cyclic cosmology mode…
We derive the modified Friedmann equation corresponding to the power-law corrected entropy-area relation $S_{\rm A}=\frac{A}{4}[1-K_α A^{1-\fracα{2}}]$ which is motivated by the entanglement of quantum fields in and out of the apparent horizon. We consider a non-flat modified FRW universe containing an interacting viscous dark energy with dark matter and radiation. For the selected model, we study the effect of the power-law correction term to the entropy on the dynamics of dark energy. Furthermore, we investigate the validity of the generalized second law (GSL) of gravitational thermodynamics…
Recently, the vacuum energy of the QCD ghost in a time-dependent background is proposed as a kind of dark energy candidate to explain the acceleration of the Universe. In this model, the energy density of the dark energy is proportional to the Hubble parameter $H$, which is the Hawking temperature on the Hubble horizon of the Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) Universe. In this paper, we generalized this model and choice the Hawking temperature on the so-called trapping horizon, which will coincides with the Hubble temperature in the context of flat FRW Universe dominated by the dark energy comp…
We investigate the validity of the generalized second law in irreversible thermodynamics in a non-flat FRW universe containing the interacting dark energy with cold dark matter. The boundary of the universe is assumed to be enclosed by the dynamical apparent horizon. We show that for the present time, the generalized second law in nonequilibrium thermodynamics is satisfied for the special range of the energy transfer constants.
It has been shown that Friedmann equation of FRW universe can be derived from the first law of thermodynamics in Einstein gravity, Gauss-Bonnet gravity, Lovelock gravity, scalar-tensor gravity and $f(R)$ gravity. Moreover, it was pointed out that the temperature of the apparent horizon can be obtained using the tunneling formalism for the corresponding observers defined by Kodama vector. In this article, we find that the energy flux through the apparent horizon can be determined by using the Kodama vector. This implies the fact that the Clausius relation and the first law of thermodynamics ass…
In completely local settings, we establish that a dynamically evolving black hole horizon can be assigned a Hawking temperature. Moreover, we calculate the Hawking flux and show that the radius of the horizon shrinks.
It is shown that the differential form of Friedmann equations of FRW universe can be recast as a similar form of the first law, $T_{h}dS_{h} = dE + WdV$, of thermodynamics at the apparent horizon of FRW universe filled with the viscous fluid. It is also shown that the generalized second law of thermodynamics holds at the apparent horizon of FRW universe and preserves dominant energy condition.
We investigate the validity of the generalized second law of gravitational thermodynamics in a non-flat FRW universe containing the interacting new agegraphic dark energy with cold dark matter. The boundary of the universe is assumed to be enclosed by the dynamical apparent horizon. We show that for this model, the equation of state parameter can cross the phantom divide. We also present that for the selected model under thermal equilibrium with the Hawking radiation, the generalized second law is always satisfied throughout the history of the universe. Whereas, the evolution of the entropy of…
In the paper, hep-th/0501055 (R.G. Cai and S.P. Kim, JHEP {\bf 0502}, 050 (2005)), it is shown that by applying the first law of thermodynamics to the apparent horizon of an FRW universe and assuming the geometric entropy given by a quarter of the apparent horizon area, one can derive the Friedmann equations describing the dynamics of the universe with any spatial curvature; using the entropy formula for the static spherically symmetric black holes in Gauss-Bonnet gravity and in more general Lovelock gravity, where the entropy is not proportional to the horizon area, one can also obtain the co…
The influence of the generalized uncertainty principle (GUP) and extended uncertainty principle (EUP) on the thermodynamics of the Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) universe has been investigated. It is shown that the entropy of the apparent horizon of the FRW universe gets a correction if one considers the effect of the GUP or EUP. Moreover, starting with the modified entropy and applying the first law of thermodynamics, $dE=TdS$, to the apparent horizon of the FRW universe, we obtain the modified Friedmann equations. The influence of the GUP or EUP on the thermodynamics of the FRW universe pr…
We study the thermodynamic properties of horizons using the dynamical description of the gravitational degrees of freedom at a horizon found in a previous work. We use the action of the horizon degrees of freedom to posit an ansatz Liouville action in the near-horizon region, and calculate the horizon entropy using the Cardy formula. We also couple the gravitational degrees of freedom at the horizon to a classical scalar background, and show that Hawking radiation is produced.
The statistical entropy of the FRW universe described by time-dependent metric is newly calculated using the brick wall method based on the general uncertainty principle with the minimal length. We can determine the minimal length with the Plank scale to obtain the entropy proportional to the area of the cosmological apparent horizon.
We have constructed a spherically symmetric structure model in a cosmological background filled with perfect fluid with non-vanishing pressure as an exact solution of Einstein equations using the Lemaître solution. To study its local and quasi-local characteristics including the novel features of its central black hole, we have suggested an algorithm to integrate the equations numerically. The result shows intriguing effects of the pressure inside the structure. The evolution of the central black hole within the FRW universe, its decoupling from the expanding parts of the model, the structure …
By applying the unified first law of thermodynamics on the apparent horizon of FRW universe, we get the entropy relation for the apparent horizon in quasi-topological gravity theory. Throughout the paper, the results of considering the Hayward-Kodama and Cai-Kim temperatures are also addressed. Our study shows that whenever, there is no energy exchange between the various parts of cosmos, we can get an expression for the apparent horizon entropy in quasi-topological gravity, which is in agreement with other attempts followed different approaches. The effects of a mutual interaction between the…
In the paper, the temperature associated with a dynamical spherically symmetric black hole or with a cosmological horizon is investigated from the point of view of a point-like detector. First, we briefly review the Hamilton-Jacobi tunneling method for a generic dynamical spherically symmetric space-time, and present two applications of the tunneling method. Then, we apply a well-known relativistic quantum theoretical technique, namely the Unruh-DeWitt detector formalism for a conformally coupled scalar field in a generic FRW space-time. As an application, for the generic static black hole cas…
The entropy S of the horizon $theta = pi/2$ of the Hawking wormhole written in spherical Rindler coordinates is computed in this letter. Using Padmanabhan's prescription,we found that the surface gravity of the horizon equals the proper acceleration of the Rindler observer. S is a monotonic function of the radial coordinate $xi$ and vanishes when $xi$ equals the Planck length. In addition, its expression is similar with the Kaul - Majumdar one for the black hole entropy, including logarithmic corrections in quantum gravity scenarios.
Hawking radiation is obtained from anomalies resulting from a breaking of diffeomorphism symmetry near the event horizon of a black hole. Such anomalies, manifested as a nonconservation of the energy momentum tensor, occur in two different forms -- covariant and consistent. The crucial role of covariant anomalies near the horizon is revealed since this is the {\it only} input required to obtain the Hawking flux, thereby highlighting the universality of this effect. A brief description to apply this method to obtain thermodynamic entities like entropy or temperature is provided.
Application of concepts like black hole and event horizon in cosmological context are not trivial, as has been shown in the last decade. We introduce special solutions of the LTB family representing collapsing over-dense regions extending to an expanding closed, open, or flat FRW model asymptotically. We study the dynamics of the collapsing region, and its density profile. The question of the strength of the central singularity and its nakedness, as well as the existence of an apparent horizon and an event horizon is dealt with in detail. Differences to the Schwarzschild black hole are address…
In this article we have used the recently introduced redefined Hawking temperature on the event horizon and investigated whether the generalised second law of thermodynamics (GSLT) and thermodynamic equilibrium holds for both the event and the apparent horizons. Here we have considered FRW universe and examined the GSLT and thermodynamic equilibrium with three examples. Finally, we have concluded that from the thermodynamic viewpoint, the universe bounded by the event horizon is more realistic than that by the apparent horizon at least for some examples.
We show that the diffeomorphism anomaly together with the trace anomaly reveal a chiral Virasoro algebra near the event horizon of a black hole. This algebra is the same irrespective of whether the anomaly is covariant or consistent, thereby manifesting its universal character and the fact that only the outgoing modes are relevant near the horizon. Our analysis therefore clarifies the role of the trace anomaly in the diffeomorphism anomaly approach \cite{wilczek, isowilczek, shailesh, shailesh2, sunandan, sunandan10, rabin10} to the Hawking radiation.
It is shown that static solutions with a finite curvature at the horizon may exist in dilaton gravity at temperatures $T\neq T_{H}$ (including T=0) where $T_{H} $is the Hawking one. Hawking radiation is absent and the state of a system represents thermal excitation over the Boulware vacuum. The horizon remains unattainable for a observer because of thermal divergences in the stress-energy of quantum fields there. However, the curvature at the horizon is finite, when measured from outside, since these divergences are compensated by those in gradients of a dilaton field. Spacetimes under conside…
We consider dynamical black hole formation from a collapsing fluid described by a symmetric and flat FRW metric. Using the Hamilton-Jacobi method the local Hawking temperature for the formed trapping/apparent horizon is calculated. The local Hawking temperature depends on the tunneling path, which we take to be along a null direction $(Δs=0)$. We find that the local Hawking temperature depends directly on the equation of state of the collapsing fluid. We argue that Hawking radiation by quantum tunnelling from future inner and future outer trapping horizons is possible. However, only radiation …
We work with the notion of apparent/trapping horizons for spherically symmetric, dynamical spacetimes: these are quasi-locally defined, simply based on the behaviour of congruence of light rays. We show that the sign of the dynamical Hayward-Kodama surface gravity is dictated by the inner/outer nature of the horizon. Using the tunneling method to compute Hawking Radiation, this surface gravity is then linked to a notion of temperature, up to a sign that is dictated by the future/past nature of the horizon. Therefore two sign effects are conspiring to give a positive temperature for the black h…
Since the conformal transformations of metric do not change its causal structure, we use these transformations to embed the Lemaitre metrics into the FRW background. In our approach, conformal transformation is in agreement with the universe expansion regimes. Indeed, we use the Lemaitre metrics because the horizon singularity is eliminated in these metrics. For our solutions, there is an event horizon while its physical radii is increasing as a function of the universe expansion provided suitable metrics for investigating the effects of the universe expansion on the Black Holes. In addition, …
We study the irreversible (non-equilibrium) thermodynamics of FRW universe containing only dark energy. Using the modified entropy-area relation which is motivated from the loop quantum gravity, we calculate the entropy-corrected form of the apparent horizon of FRW universe.
The Unruh vacuum not admitting any outgoing flux at the horizon implies that the origin of the outgoing Hawking radiation is the atmosphere of a near-horizon quantum region without resort to the firewall; however, the existence of the firewall of superplanckian excitations at the horizon can be supported by the infinite Tolman temperature at the horizon. In an exactly soluble model, we explicitly show that the firewall necessarily emerges out of the Unruh vacuum so that the Tolman temperature in the Unruh vacuum is divergent in essence due to the infinitely blueshifted negative ingoing flux cr…
This paper considers the nature of apparent horizons for astrophysical black hole situated in a realistic cosmological context. Using semi-tetrad covariant methods we study the local evolutions of the boundaries of the trapped region in the spacetime. For a collapsing massive star immersed in a cosmology with Cosmic Background Radiation (CBR), we show that the initial 2 dimensional marginally trapped surface bifurcates into inner and outer horizons. The inner horizon is timelike while the continuous CBR influx into the black hole makes the outer horizon spacelike. We discuss the possible conse…
In the present work, we investigate the power-law entropy corrected holographic dark energy (PLECHDE) model with Hubble horizon cutoff. We use 46 observational Hubble data points in the redshift range $0 \leq z \leq 2.36$ to determine the present Hubble constant $H_0$ and the model parameter $n$. It represents a phase transition of the universe from deceleration to acceleration and has the transition point at $z_t = 0.71165$. We investigate the observational constraints on the model and calculate some relevant cosmological parameters. We examine the model's validity by drawing state-finder par…
We demonstrate that the near-horizon physics, the Hawking radiation and the reflection off the radial potential barrier, can be understood entirely within a conformal field theory picture in terms of one- and two-point functions in the boundary Liouville theory. An important element in this demonstration is the notion of {\it horizon state}, the Hawking radiation being interpreted as a result of the transition of horizon state to the ordinary states propagating outside black hole horizon.
Using tunnelling approach, Hawking radiation is derived for a general class of non-static spherically symmetric space time. The standard tunnelling rate formula is obtained using the unified first law of thermodynamics on the trapping horizon and Hawking temperature is measured by an Kodama observer inside the horizon.
