Nonzero masses for the active neutrinos - regardless of their nature or origin - arise only after electroweak symmetry breaking. We discuss the parameterization of neutrino couplings to a Higgs sector consisting of one SU(2)_L scalar doublet and one SU(2)_L scalar triplet, and allow for right-handed neutrinos whose Majorana mass parameters arise from the vacuum expectation value of a Standard Model scalar singlet. If the neutrinos are Majorana fermions, all Yukawa couplings can be expressed as functions of the neutrino mass eigenvalues and a subset of the elements of the neutrino mixing matrix. In the mass basis, the Yukawa couplings are, in general, not diagonal. This is to be contrasted to the case of charged-fermions or Dirac neutrinos, where couplings to the Higgs-boson are diagonal in the mass basis and proportional only to the fermion masses. Nonetheless, all physically distinguishable parameters can be reached if all neutrino masses are constrained to be positive, all mixing angles constrained to lie in the first quadrant (theta in [0,pi/2]), and all Majorana phases to lie in the first two quadrants (phi in [0,pi]), as long as all Dirac phases vary within the entire unit circle (delta in [0,2pi}). We discuss several concrete examples and comment on the Casas-Ibarra parameterization for the neutrino Yukawa couplings in the case of the type-I Seesaw Lagrangian.
In this talk, we present a recent investigation of the sufficient and necessary conditions for CP conservation in the leptonic sector with massive Majorana neutrinos in terms of CP-odd weak-basis invariants. The number of weak-basis invariants to guarantee CP conservation in the leptonic sector is clarified and a new set of invariants are advocated for the description of CP conservation, given the physical parameters in their experimentally allowed regions.
I analyze a fourth generation lepton sector in which the lightest particle is a stable Majorana neutrino. In this scenario fourth generation neutrinos have both a Dirac and Majorana mass, resulting in two Majorana neutrino mass eigenstates. A reanalysis of LEP's lower mass bound is performed on stable Majorana neutrinos from the Z width and the lower mass bound is loosened. I also extrapolate LEP's SUSY squark search with a 2 jet plus missing missing energy final state to the production and decay of a pair of heavy Majorana neutrinos; here it is expected that significant regions of the neutrin…
Starting from a complete set of possible parametrisations of the quark-mass matrices that have the maximum number of texture zeros at the grand unification scale, and the Georgi-Jarlskog mass relations, we classify the neutrino spectra with respect to the unknown structure of the heavy Majorana sector. The results can be casted into a small number of phenomenologically distinct classes of neutrino spectra, characterised by universal mass-hierarchy and oscillation patterns. One finds that the neutrino masses reflect the natural hierarchy among the three generations and obey the quadratic seesaw…
If the mixing angles in each of the seesaw sectors are all small, and the neutrino masses are hierarchical, we study the conditions for large neutrino mixing using triangular matrices. In particular, the implication of the neutrino oscillation data for the mass hierarchy in the heavy Majorana sector is examined, and the heavy Majorana scales are shown to depend sensitively on the solar mixing angle.
A general feature of TeV-scale radiative seesaw models, in which tiny neutrino masses are generated via loop corrections, is an extended scalar (Higgs) sector. Another feature is the Majorana nature; e.g., introducing right-handed neutrinos with TeV-scale Majorana masses under the discrete symmetry, or otherwise introducing some lepton number violating interactions in the scalar sector. We study phenomenological aspects of these models at collider experiments. We find that, while properties of the extended Higgs sector of these models can be explored to some extent, the Majorana nature of the …
We study CP violation in the lepton sector in extended models with right-handed neutrinos, without and with left-right symmetry, and with arbitrary mass terms. We find the conditions which must be satisfied by the neutrino and charged lepton mass matrices for CP conservation. These constraints, which are independent of the choice of weak basis, are proven to be also sufficient in simple cases. This invariant formulation makes apparent the necessary requirements for CP violation, as well as the size of CP violating effects. As an example, we show that CP violation can be much larger in left-rig…
We propose a Clifford algebra based model, which treats both gravity and Yang-Mills interactions as gauge fields. There are two sectors of boson fields as electroweak and Majorana bosons. The electroweak boson sector induces fermion masses via spontaneous symmetry breaking. It is composed of scalar Higgs, pseudoscalar Higgs, and antisymmetric tensor components. The Majorana boson sector contributes to flavor mixing and Majorana masses of right-handed neutrinos. It is comprised of neutrino Higgs and pseudo-Nambu-Goldstone bosons. The LHC 750 GeV diphoton resonance might possibly be identified a…
We examine a recently proposed symmetry/condition by Friedberg and Lee in the framework where three right-handed neutrinos are added to the spectrum of the three-family Minimal Standard Model. It is found that the right-handed neutrinos are very special, with respect to this symmetry. In the symmetry limit the neutrinos are massless and that may be a hint about why they are light. Imposed as a condition and not as a full symmetry, we find that one of the three right-handed neutrinos simply decouples (has only gravitational interactions) and that there is a massless interacting neutrino. The po…
In the present paper, we carry out a systematic study of the flavor invariants and their renormalization-group equations (RGEs) in the leptonic sector with three generations of charged leptons and massive Majorana neutrinos. First, following the approach of the Hilbert series from the invariant theory, we show that there are 34 basic flavor invariants in the generating set, among which 19 invariants are CP-even and the others are CP-odd. Any flavor invariants can be expressed as the polynomials of those 34 basic invariants in the generating set. Second, we explicitly construct all the basic in…
We show renormalization group invariants in neutrino sector. These are found from a simple analytical discussion of Majorana mass matrix for light neutrinos. It is shown that the invariants are obtained by taking ratios among elements of the Majorana neutrino mass matrix. The invariance is independent of neutrino mass ordering and a parameterization of mixing matrix for the lepton sector. Parameters in the runnings under renormalization group equations in the neutrino sector are also analyzed.
A collider probe of the radiative seesaw models are considered. Two key ingredients of these models, the extended Higgs sector and the source of the Majorana mass, although these details differ model by model, would be studied at the TeV-scale electron-positron and electron-electron colliders. The searches and mass determinations in the inert doublet model, which is the extended Higgs sector of the Ma model, are summarized as an example.
In the preprint arXiv:2110.08210, some comments on our paper recently published in JHEP \textbf{09} (2021) 053 have been made. Since some of the comments are completely wrong and others are quite misleading, we decide to clarify the relevant issues in a formal reply. First of all, nothing is wrong about our calculations and physical results in the original paper. Second, there is no logical gap to fill at all. The fact that the $N$-dimensional unitary group over the field of complex numbers ${\rm U}(N,\mathbb{C})$ is not a linear algebraic group is actually irrelevant for the validity of the M…
We investigate the sensitivity of some weak processes to the simplest extension of the Standard Model with Majorana neutrinos mixing in the leptonic sector. Values for mixing angles and masses compatible with several experimental accelerator data and the most recent neutrinoless double--$β$ decay limit were found.
The related issues of Majorana CP violation in the lepton sector and leptogenesis are investigated in detail in two rather generic supersymmetric models with type I see-saw mechanism of neutrino mass generation and A_4 flavour symmetry, which naturally lead at leading order to tri-bimaximal neutrino mixing. The neutrino sector in this class of models is described at leading order by just two real parameters and one phase. This leads, in particular, to significant low energy constraints on the Majorana phases α_{21} and α_{31} in the PMNS matrix, which play the role of leptogenesis CP violating…
As is well-known, there exist totally three CP-violating phases in the leptonic sector if three ordinary neutrinos are massive Majorana particles. In this short note, we raise the question whether the number of sufficient and necessary conditions for CP conservation in the leptonic sector with massive Majorana neutrinos is three or four. An intuitive answer to this question would be three, which is also the total number of independent CP-violating phases. However, we give a counter example, in which three conditions are in general not sufficient for CP conservation. Only for all the lepton mas…
We calculate new contributions to the $K_L\toπ^0ν\barν$ decay in models where neutrino Majorana masses require an extension of the scalar sector. First, we study a model where the neutrino mass is induced by the vacuum expectation value of an SU(2)-triplet scalar. Second, we study the Zee model where the Majorana mass comes from one loop diagrams involving a singly charged, SU(2)-singlet scalar. In both models, the Yukawa couplings that involve the new scalar and the neutrinos could be of order one. We find, however, that the contributions to the $K_L\toπ^0ν\barν$ decay mediated by the new sca…
Recently in [JHEP 09 (2021) 053], Wang et al. discussed the polynomial ring formed by flavor invariants in the leptonic sector with massive Majorana neutrinos. They have explicitly constructed the finite generating sets of the polynomial rings for both two-generation scenario and three-generation scenario. However, Wang et al.'s claim of the finiteness of the generating sets of the polynomial rings and their calculation by the approach of Hilbert series with generalized Molien-Weyl formula are both based on their assertion that the unitary group ${\rm U}(n,\mathbb{C})$ is reductive, which is u…
We discuss neutrino masses and mixing in the context of seesaw type I models with three right-handed Majorana neutrinos and an approximately diagonal Dirac sector. This ansatz is motivated by the idea that the flavor structure in the right-handed Majorana masses is responsible for the large mixing angles, whereas the small mixing angle $θ_{13}$ originates from the Dirac Yukawa couplings in analogy to the quark sector. To obtain $θ_{13} \approx 0.15$ we study a possible $SU(5)$ grand unified theory realization with a $U(1) \times \mathbb{Z}'_2 \times \mathbb{Z}''_2 \times \mathbb{Z}'''_2$ flavo…
We analyze the dependence of the squared amplitudes on the rephasing-invariant CP-violating parameters of the lepton sector, involving Majorana neutrinos, for various lepton-conserving and lepton-violating processes. We analyze the conditions under which the CP-violating effects in such processes vanish, in terms of the minimal set of rephasing invariants, giving special attention to the dependence on the extra CP-violating parameters that are due to the Majorana nature of the neutrinos.
We generalize the geometrical description of CP violation in the Standard Model in terms of a unitarity triangle. For three left-handed Majorana neutrinos CP violation in the lepton sector is determined by three unitarity triangles. With three additional right-handed neutrinos 15 quadrangles are required to characterize CP violation. We show the relation of the unitarity polygons with physical observables.
We respectfully reply to Wang et al.'s reply to our comment to their [JHEP $\textbf{09}$ (2021) 053]. Some more subtleties and details are discussed for hopefully better clarification and understanding, especially about the conditions in Hilbert's finiteness theorem. We also disprove Wang et al.'s incorrect assertion in their reply [arXiv:2110.13865 [hep-ph]] that there is an isomorphism between ${\rm U}(n,\mathbb{C})$ and ${\rm GL}(n,\mathbb{C})$. We give two proofs for our argument. One proof is in the context of Lie group for arbitrary positive integer $n$, and the other proof is in the con…
We investigate the possibility of a fourth sequential generation in the lepton sector. Assuming neutrinos to be Majorana particles and starting from a recent - albeit weak - evidence for a non-zero admixture of a fourth generation neutrino from fits to weak lepton and meson decays we discuss constraints from neutrinoless double beta decay, radiative lepton decay and like-sign di-lepton production at hadron colliders.
The observation of lepton flavor violating processes at colliders could be a clear signal of a non-minimal neutrino sector. We define a 5-parameter model with a pair of TeV fermion singlets and arbitrary mixings with the three active neutrino flavors. Then we analyze several flavor violating transitions ($\ell\to \ell^{\prime}γ,\,\ell^{\prime}\ell^{\prime\prime}\bar{\ell}^{\prime\prime\prime}$ or $μ-e$ conversions in nuclei) and $Z\to\bar{\ell}\,\ell^{\prime}$ decays induced by the presence of heavy neutrinos. In particular, we calculate all the one-loop contributions to these processes and pr…
We propose a model, in the framework of 5D with warped geometry, in which small neutrino Majorana masses are generated by tree level coupling of lepton doublets to a SU(2)_{L}-triplet scalar field, which is coupled to a bulk SM-singlet. The neutrino mass scale is determined by the bulk mass term (alpha_{S}) of the singlet as ve^{-2(alpha_{S}-1)*pi*kR}. This suppression is due to a small overlap between the profile of the singlet zero mode and the triplet, which is confined to the TeV brane. The generic form for the neutrino mass matrix due to the overlap between the fermions is not compatible …
We generalize a recently proposed on-shell approach to renormalize the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa quark-mixing matrix to the case of an extended leptonic sector that includes Dirac and Majorana neutrinos in the framework of the seesaw mechanism. An important property of this formulation is the gauge independence of both the renormalized and bare lepton mixing matrices. Also, the texture zero in the neutrino mass matrix is preserved.
In order to address the observation of the neutrino oscillations and the metastability of the Standard Model, we extend the fermion sector with two right-handed (i.e. sterile) neutrinos, and the scalar sector of the SM with a real scalar, the Hill field. The latter takes the role of a Majoron and generates the Majorana masses for the neutrino sector, such that the particle spectrum features two CP-even scalars $h_1$ and $h_2$, and also two heavy, mass degenerate neutrinos. When the $h_1$ is identified with the scalar resonance at ~125 GeV and the condition is imposed that the $h_1$ self coupli…
I study, in the leptonic sector, the role of the $SU(2)_V$ custodial symmetry $\ti{\cal G}$ which was shown in ref. [1] to control the quantization of the electric charge in the $J=0$ mesonic sector. The electroweak theory is considered, according to ref. [2], as a purely vectorial model which interacts with a ``hidden'' sector of composite scalars. $\ti{\cal G}$ can only be a symmetry of the former if the neutrino is a Majorana particle; the latter provides a dynamical modification of the leptonic weak couplings, reconstructing those of the Standard Model with a massless Majorana neutrino.
We propose a type of hybrid Seesaw model that combines Type-1 and Type-2 Seesaw mechanism in multiplicative way to generate tree level Majorana neutrino mass and provides a Dark Matter candidate. The model extends the Standard Model by extra gauge symmetry $U(1)_{D}$ and hidden sector consisted of chiral fermions and additional scalar fields. After spontaneous symmetry breaking, light neutrino masses are generated not only by exchange of the new heavy fermions as Type-1 Seesaw, but also by coupling to the naturally small induced vacuum expectation value of new heavy scalar as Type-2 Seesaw. An…
For the purpose of deriving the observed nearly tribimaximal neutrino mixing, a possible yukawaon model in the quark sector is investigated. Five observable quantities (2 up-quark mass ratios and 3 neutrino mixing parameters \sin^2 2θ_{atm}, \tan^2θ_{solar} and |U_{13}|) are excellently fitted by two parameters (one in the up-quark sector and another one in the right-handed Majorana neutrino sector).
Assuming 3-$ν$ mixing, massive Majorana neutrinos and neutrinoless double-beta (\betabeta-) decay generated only by the (V-A) charged current weak interaction via the exchange of the three Majorana neutrinos, we briefly review the predictions for the effective Majorana mass $\meff$ in \betabeta-decay and reanalyse the physics potential of future \betabeta-decay experiments to provide information on the type of neutrino mass spectrum, the absolute scale of neutrino masses, and Majorana CP-violation in the lepton sector. Using as input the most recent experimental results on neutrino oscillation…
The Higgs sector of the Standard Model with one right-handed neutrino per family is systematically analyzed. In a model with intergenerational independent mixings between families, we can account for very light neutrinos acquiring Majorana masses radiatively at the first electroweak loop level. We also find that in such a scenario the Higgs coupling to the light-heavy neutrinos and to the heavy-heavy ones may be remarkably enhanced with significant implications for the production of these heavy neutrinos at high energy colliders.
In extensions of the standard model with a heavy fourth generation one important question is what makes the fourth-generation lepton sector, particularly the neutrinos, so different from the lighter three generations. We study this question in the context of models of electroweak symmetry breaking in warped extra dimensions, where the flavor hierarchy is generated by the localization of the zero-mode fermions in the extra dimension. In this setup the Higgs sector is localized near the infrared brane, whereas the Majorana mass term is localized at the ultraviolet brane. As a result, light neutr…
Possible existence of "hot-sector generations" above the well known 3 generation bound is investigated on the basis of a model of leptons and quarks, which is based on the Harari and Shupe's one. Our model predicts the existence of {\bf3 + 1} generations above the ordinary "cold-sector" 3 generations. Majorana neutrinos are introduced to realize the heavy neutrino masses in hot-sector generations. Properties of heavy neutrinos are also discussed.
The leptonic sector in a recently proposed minimal extension of the standard model, in which the permutation symmetry S_3 is assumed to be an exact flavor symmetry at the weak scale, is revisited. We find that S_3 with an additional Z_{N} symmetry allows CP violating phases in the neutrino mixing. The leptonic sector contains six real parameters with two independent phases to describe charged lepton and neutrino masses and the neutrino mixing. The model predicts: an inverted spectrum of neutrino mass, tan theta_{23}=1+O(m_e^2/m_mu^2) and sin theta_{13}=m_e/sqrt{2}m_mu+O(m_em_mu/m_{tau}^2) sime…
We show how Lorentz invariance violation (LIV) can occur for Majorana neutrinos, without inducing LIV in the charged leptons via radiative corrections. Such ``electrophobic'' LIV is due to the Majorana nature of the LIV operator together with electric charge conservation. Being free from the strong constraints coming from the charged lepton sector, electrophobic LIV can in principle be as large as current neutrino experiments permit. On the other hand electrophobic LIV could be naturally small if it originates from LIV in some singlet ``right-handed neutrino'' sector, and is felt in the physic…
We analyze the phenomenological implications for new electroweak physics in the Higgs sector in the framework of SU(2)_L x U(1)_Y theories that naturally predict heavy Majorana neutrinos. We calculate the one-loop Majorana-neutrino contributions to the decay rates of the Higgs boson into pairs of quarks and intermediate bosons and to its production cross section via bremsstrahlung in e^+e^- collisions. It turns out that these are extremely small in three- generation models. On the other hand, the sizeable quantum corrections generated by a conventional fourth generation with a Dirac neutrino m…
Under the assumption that the neutrinos are Majorana particles we study how the lepton mass matrices can be transformed into the simple form which has the same physical quantities by removing redundant parameters. We propose the exact parametrization of the lepton mass matrices which reflects the small nu_e-nu_mu mixing and the large nu_mu-nu_tau mixing. The relations between the twelve parameters and the physical quantities are shown. Furthermore we calculate the MNS matrix by applying the assumptions used in the quark sector. Finally we also check the validity of these assumptions from the e…
Leptonic CP violation is one of the most important topics in neutrino physics. CP violation in the neutrino sector is strongly related to the nature of neutrinos: whether they are Dirac or Majorana particles. In \cite{Popov:2021icg} we have shown that for Majorana neutrinos arance of nonzero Majorana CP-violating phases combined with strong magnetic field during supernova core-collaple can induce new resonances in neutrino oscillations, for example in $ν_e \to \barν_τ$ channel. In this contribution we further study new resonances in Majorana neutrino oscillations, in particular energy dependen…
We investigate the possibility of a fourth sequential generation in the lepton sector. Assuming neutrinos to be Majorana particles and starting from a recent - albeit weak - evidence for a non-zero admixture of a fourth generation neutrino from fits to weak lepton and meson decays we discuss constraints from neutrinoless double beta decay, radiative lepton decay and like-sign dilepton production at hadron colliders. Also an idea for fourth generation neutrino mass model building is briefly outlined. Here we soften the large hierarchy of the neutrino masses within an extradimensional model that…
If neutrinos have masses, why are they so tiny? Are these masses of the Dirac type or of the Majorana type? We are already familiar with the mechanism of how to obtain a tiny Majorana neutrino mass by the famous see-saw mechanism. The question is: Can one build a model in which a tiny Dirac neutrino mass arises in a more or less "natural" way? What would be the phenomenological consequences of such a scenario, other than just merely reproducing the neutrino mass patterns for the oscillation data? In this article, a systematic and detailed analysis of a model is presented, with, as key componen…
The effective Majorana mass which determines the rate of the neutrinoless double beta decay, |<m>|, is considered in the case of three-neutrino mixing and massive Majorana neutrinos. Assuming a rather precise determination of the parameters characterizing the neutrino oscillation solutions of the solar and atmospheric neutrino problems has been made, we discuss the information a measurement of |<m>| > (0.005 - 0.010) eV can provide on the value of the lightest neutrino mass and on the CP-violation in the lepton sector. The implications of combining a measurement of |<m>| with future measuremen…
Transition magnetic moments of Majorana neutrinos are discussed in the frame of the most natural version of the LR model (with left- and right-handed triplets and a bidoublet in the Higgs sector). We show that their largest values could be at most $6\cdot 10^{-13} μ_B$ from diagrams with $W_L$ in the loop. This could happen for specific models where (i) neutrino-charged lepton mixing is maximal and (ii) $κ_1 \simeq κ_2$ (VEVs for neutral Higgs fields in the bidoublet $ϕ$ are equal). Contributions from diagrams with charged Higgses in the loop are smaller than those in the SM with right-handed …
A two-loop induced radiative neutrino model is proposed as an extension of our previous work in which the first and second generation standard model fermion masses are generated at one-loop level in both quark and lepton sectors. Then we discuss current neutrino oscillation data, lepton flavor violations, muon anomalous magnetic moment, and a bosonic dark matter candidate, for both the normal and inverted neutrino mass hierarchy. Our numerical analysis shows that less hierarchical Yukawa coupling constants can fit the experimental data with TeV scale dark matter.
We study the effects of heavy Majorana neutrinos on the Higgs sector of the MSSM via radiative corrections. We work within the SUSY context where the MSSM particle content is enlarged with right handed neutrinos and their corresponding SUSY partners, the sneutrinos, and where compatibility with neutrino data is required. We compute the one-loop corrections to the mass of the lightest MSSM CP-even neutral Higgs boson from Majorana neutrinos and their SUSY partners and assume a seesaw mechanism of type I for neutrino mass generation. A negative and sizeable Higgs mass correction of up to -5 GeV …
We consider the Singlet Majorana fermion dark matter model, in which the standard model particles interact with the dark sector through the mixing of a singlet scalar and the Higgs boson. In this model both the dark matter and the singlet scalar carry lepton number, the latter being a bilepton. We suppose the existence of a $Z_2$ symmetry, remnant of some high energy local symmetry breaking, that stabilizes the Majorana fermion. We analyzed the parameter space of this model and found that the lepton number symmetry breaking scale, drove by the singlet scalar, is constrained to be within hundre…
We study a classically accidental scale-invariant extension of the Standard Model (SM) containing three additional fields, a vector leptoquark ($ V_μ $), a real scalar ($ ϕ$), and a neutral Majorana fermion ($ χ$) as a dark matter (DM) candidate. The scalar $ ϕ$ (scalon) and Majorana fermion $ χ$ are both singlets under the SM gauge group, while $ V_μ $ has (\textbf{3}, \textbf{1}, 2/3) quantum numbers under the $ SU(3)_{c} \times SU(2)_{L} \times U(1)_{Y} $. The Majorana DM couples to the SM sector via both Higgs and leptoquark portals. We perform a scan over the independent parameters to det…
We investigate the Higgs-Yukawa system with Majorana masses of a fermion within asymptotically safe quantum gravity. Using the functional renormalization group method we derive the beta functions of the Majorana masses and the Yukawa coupling constant and discuss the possibility of a non-trivial fixed point for the Yukawa coupling constant. In the gravitational sector we take into account higher derivative terms such as $R^2$ and $R_{μν}R^{μν}$ in addition to the Einstein-Hilbert term for our truncation. For a certain value of the gravitational coupling constants and the Majorana masses, the Y…
We propose a new model to explain the neutrino masses, the dark energy and the baryon asymmetry altogether. In this model, neutrinos naturally acquire small Majorana masses via type-II seesaw mechanism, while the pseudo-Nambu-Goldstone bosons associated with the neutrino mass-generation mechanism provide attractive candidates for dark energy. The baryon asymmetry of the universe is produced from the Higgs triplets decay with CP-violation.
We consider a neutrino mass model where all leptonic mixing is induced by a heavy Majorana sector through the seesaw type I mechanism, while the Dirac mass matrices are diagonal. Such a pattern occurs naturally in grand unified theories. Constraints on the parameters of the models are considered and it is shown that a normal neutrino mass hierarchy is preferred. The lightest neutrino mass is typically small, leading to nonobservable rates for neutrinoless double beta decay in the normal hierarchy case.
We discuss the perspectives of testing the right-handed Majorana mass scale M_R of the SUSY see-saw model in the mSUGRA framework. Lepton-flavor violating low energy processes are analyzed in recently proposed post-LEP benchmark scenarios, taking into account present uncertainties and future developments in the neutrino sector. Nonobservation of mu -> e gamma in the next-generation PSI experiment will provide upper bounds on M_R of the order of 10^(12-14) GeV, while on the other hand, a positive signal for tau -> mu gamma at SUPERKEKB or the LHC may determine M_R for a given mSUGRA scenario wi…
Assuming 3-neutrino mixing and massive Majorana neutrinos, we analyze the possibility of establishing the existence of CP-violation associated with Majorana neutrinos in the lepton sector i) by measuring of the effective Majorana mass |<m>| in neutrinoless double beta-decay with a sufficient precision and ii) by measuring of, or obtaining a stringent upper limit on, the lightest neutrino mass m1. Information on m1 can be obtained in the tritium beta decay experiment KATRIN and from astrophysical and cosmological observations. Proving that the indicated CP-violation takes place requires, in par…
We suggest new setup where SUSY breaking spurion F-term possesses lepton number. This setup not only modifies sparticle mass spectra but also realizes several new models, where neutrino mass is naturally induced through radiative corrections. We here suggest two new models; the first one is (i): pseudo-Dirac/Schizophrenic neutrino model, and the second one is (ii): pure Majorana neutrino model. We will also show this setup can naturally apply to the supersymmetric Zee-Babu model.
We review the main results of the one-loop radiative corrections from the neutrino/sneutrino sector to the lightest Higgs boson mass, M_h, within the context of the so-called MSSM-seesaw scenario where right handed neutrinos and their supersymmetric partners are included in order to explain neutrino masses. For simplicity, we have restricted ourselves to the one generation case. We find sizable corrections to M_h, which are negative in the region where the Majorana scale is large (10^{13} - 10^{15} GeV) and the lightest neutrino mass is within a range inspired by data (0.1 - 1 eV). For some re…
It is found that the seesaw mechanism not only explains the smallness of neutrino masses but also accounts for the large mixing angles simultaneously, even if the unification of the neutrino Dirac mass matrix with that of up-type quark sector is realized. In this mechanism, we show that the mixing matrix of the Dirac-type mass matrix gets extra rotations from the diagonalization of Majorana mass matrix. Assuming that the mixing angles to diagonalize the Majorana mass matrix are extremely small, we find that the large mixing angles of leptonic sector found in atmospheric and long baseline react…
If the present or upcoming searches for neutrinoless double beta decay give a positive result, the Majorana nature of massive neutrinos will be established. From the determination of the value of the effective Majorana mass parameter |<m>|, it would be possible to obtain information on the type of neutrino mass spectrum. Assuming 3-neutrino mixing and massive Majorana neutrinos, we discuss the information a measurement of, or an upper bound on, |<m>| can provide on the value of the lightest neutrino mass m1. With additional data on the neutrino masses obtained in tritium beta decay experiments…
The lepton number violating signal of like-sign-dileptons (LSD), p p \to \ell^\pm\ell^\pm + 2 jets, is investigated within a model of mixing in the neutrino sector assuming the existence of heavy Majorana neutrino states with a left--handed coupling to the light leptons. The LSD signal receives contributions both from the resonant production of a heavy Majorana neutrino (N) and from the exchange of a virtual N in the WW fusion mechanisms. These two possibilities are discussed in detail and compared. Helicity amplitudes are given pointing out differences with calculations previously reported by…
The lepton-number violating process e p \to nu_e l l' X mediated by Majorana neutrinos is studied for the HERA collider for (l l') = (e tau), (mu tau), (mu mu) and (tau tau). Only the muonic decay of the tau is considered. The direct limit on the effective muon Majorana mass, <m_{mu mu}> is improved significantly to 4.0 times 10^3 GeV and for the first time direct limits on the analogous effective masses connected with the tau sector are given, namely 4.2 times 10^3 GeV for <m_{e tau}>, 4.4 times 10^3 GeV for <m_{mu tau}> and 2.0 times 10^4 GeV for <m_{tau tau}>. We find that a more general an…
In this talk we show how Lorentz invariance violation (LIV) can occur for Majorana neutrinos, without inducing LIV in the charged leptons via radiative corrections. Such ``electrophobic'' LIV is due to the Majorana nature of the LIV operator together with electric charge conservation. Being free from the strong constraints coming from the charged lepton sector, electrophobic LIV can in principle be as large as current neutrino experiments permit. On the other hand electrophobic LIV could be naturally small if it originates from LIV in some singlet ``right-handed neutrino'' sector, and is felt …
CPT violation in the neutrino sector, suggested as a new way to reconcile different neutrino anomalies, induces at the radiative level observable effects among charged leptons, where high-precision tests of the CPT symmetry are available. We show that, in the models with heavy right-handed Majorana neutrinos, constraints imposed by these experiments require CPT violation in neutrino spectrum be suppressed to a level undetectable for any conceivable neutrino experiment. We find that the CPT violation in the neutrino sector may evade indirect constraints only at the expense of light right-handed…
