1-loop vacuum energies of (fuzzy) spacetimes from a supersymmetric reduced model with Filippov 3-algebra are discussed. A_{2,2} algebra, Nambu-Poisson algebra in flat spacetime, and a Lorentzian 3-algebra are examined as 3-algebras.
Generalizations of the reduced model of super Yang-Mills theory obtained by replacing the Lie algebra structure to Filippov $n$-algebra structures are studied. Conditions for the reduced model actions to be supersymmetric are examined. These models are related with what we call $\{cal N}_{min}=2$ super $p$-brane actions.
In these notes we review Klimcik's construction of noncommutative gauge theory on the fuzzy supersphere. This theory has an exact SUSY gauge symmetry with a finite number of degrees of freedom and thus in principle it is amenable to the methods of matrix models and Monte Carlo numerical simulations. We also write down in this article a novel fuzzy supersymmetric scalar action on the fuzzy supersphere.
Our recent construction arXiv:0903.3966 for the fuzzy 2-sphere in terms of bifundamentals, discovered in the context of the ABJM model, is shown to be explicitly equivalent to the usual (adjoint) fuzzy sphere construction. The matrices $\tilde G^α$ that define it play the role of fuzzy Killing spinors on the 2-sphere, out of which all spherical harmonics are constructed. Starting from the quadratic fluctuation action around these solutions in the mass-deformed ABJM theory, we recover a supersymmetric D4-brane action wrapping a 2-sphere, including fermions. We obtain both the usual D4 action wi…
We construct a supermatrix model whose classical background gives two-dimensional noncommutative supersphere. Quantum fluctuations around it give the supersymmetric gauge theories on the fuzzy supersphere constructed by Klimcik. This model has a parameter $β$ which can tune masses of the particles in the model and interpolate various supersymmetric gauge theories on sphere.
In this note we develop fuzzy versions of the supersymmetric non-linear sigma model on the supersphere S^(2,2). In hep-th/0212133 Bott projectors have been used to obtain the fuzzy CP^1 model. Our approach utilizes the use of supersymmetric extensions of these projectors. Here we obtain these (super) -projectors and quantize them in a fashion similar to the one given in hep-th/0212133. We discuss the interpretation of the resulting model as a finite dimensional matrix model.
We study classical solutions in Berenstein-Maldacena-Nastase (BMN) matrix model. A supersymmetric (1/2 BPS) fuzzy sphere is one of the classical solutions and corresponds to a giant graviton. We also consider other classical solutions, such as non-supersymmetric fuzzy sphere and harmonic oscillating gravitons. Some properties of oscillating gravitons are discussed. In particular, oscillating gravitons turn into usual supergravitons in the limit mu -> 0. Moreover, we calculate the one-loop effective action around the supersymmetric fuzzy sphere by the use of the background field method and show…
We first review the description of flag manifolds in terms of Pluecker coordinates and coherent states. Using this description, we construct fuzzy versions of the algebra of functions on these spaces in both operatorial and star product language. Our main focus is here on flag manifolds appearing in the double fibration underlying the most common twistor correspondences. After extending the Pluecker description to certain supersymmetric cases, we also obtain the appropriate deformed algebra of functions on a number of fuzzy flag supermanifolds. In particular, fuzzy versions of Calabi-Yau super…
Supersymmetric quantum Hall liquids are constructed on a supersphere in a supermonopole background. We derive a supersymmetric generalization of the Laughlin wavefunction, which is a ground state of a hard-core $OSp(1|2)$ invariant Hamiltonian. We also present excited topological objects, which are fractionally charged deficits made by super Hall currents. Several relations between quantum Hall systems and their supersymmetric extensions are discussed.
We study a 4d supersymmetric matrix model with a cubic term, which incorporates fuzzy spheres as classical solutions, using Monte Carlo simulations and perturbative calculations. The fuzzy sphere in the supersymmetric model turns out to be always stable if the large-N limit is taken in such a way that various correlation functions scale. This is in striking contrast to analogous bosonic models, where the fuzzy sphere decays into the pure Yang-Mills vacuum due to quantum effects when the coefficient of the cubic term becomes smaller than a critical value. We also find that the power-law tail of…
We discuss the classical and quantum stability of general configurations representing many fuzzy spheres in dimensionally reduced Yang-Mills-Chern-Simons models with and without supersymmetry. By performing one-loop perturbative calculations around such configurations, we find that intersecting fuzzy spheres are classically unstable in the class of models studied in this paper. We also discuss the large-N limit of the one-loop effective action as a function of the distance of fuzzy spheres. This shows, in particular, that concentric fuzzy spheres with different radii, which are identified with…
We investigate quantum corrections in non-commutative gauge theory on fuzzy sphere. We study translation invariant models which classically favor a single fuzzy sphere with U(1) gauge group. We evaluate the effective actions up to the two loop level. We find non-vanishing quantum corrections at each order even in supersymmetric models. In particular the two loop contribution favors U(n) gauge group over U(1) contrary to the tree action in a deformed IIB matrix model with a Myers term. We further observe close correspondences to 2 dimensional quantum gravity.
We argue supersymmetric generalizations of fuzzy two- and four-spheres based on the unitary-orthosymplectic algebras, $uosp(N|2)$ and $uosp(N|4)$, respectively. Supersymmetric version of Schwinger construction is applied to derive graded fully symmetric representation for fuzzy superspheres. As a classical counterpart of fuzzy superspheres, graded versions of 1st and 2nd Hopf maps are introduced, and their basic geometrical structures are studied. It is shown that fuzzy superspheres are represented as a "superposition" of fuzzy superspheres with lower supersymmetries. We also investigate algeb…
In this paper, we consider two-dimensional N=(4,4) supersymmetric Yang-Mills (SYM) theory and deform it by a mass parameter M with keeping all supercharges. We further add another mass parameter m in a manner to respect two of the eight supercharges and put the deformed theory on a two-dimensional square lattice, on which the two supercharges are exactly preserved. The flat directions of scalar fields are stabilized due to the mass deformations, which gives discrete minima representing fuzzy spheres. We show in the perturbation theory that the lattice continuum limit can be taken without any f…
We consider a non-supersymmetric domain-wall version of $\mathcal{N} = 4$ SYM theory where five out of the six scalar fields have non-zero classical values on one side of a wall of codimension one. The classical fields have commutators which constitute an irreducible representation of the Lie algebra $\mathfrak{so}(5)$ leading to a highly non-trivial mixing between color and flavor components of the quantum fields. Making use of fuzzy spherical harmonics on $S^4$, we explicitly solve the mixing problem and derive not only the spectrum of excitations at the quantum level but also the propagator…
We find new spontaneously generated fuzzy extra dimensions emerging from a certain deformation of $N=4$ supersymmetric Yang-Mills (SYM) theory with cubic soft supersymmetry breaking and mass deformation terms. First, we determine a particular four dimensional fuzzy vacuum that may be expressed in terms of a direct sum of product of two fuzzy spheres, and denote it in short as $S_F^{2\, Int}\times S_F^{2\, Int}$. The direct sum structure of the vacuum is revealed by a suitable splitting of the scalar fields in the model in a manner that generalizes our approach in \cite{Seckinson}. Fluctuations…
This paper is a review of monopoles, lowest Landau level, fuzzy spheres, and their mutual relations. The Hopf maps of division algebras provide a prototype relation between monopoles and fuzzy spheres. Generalization of complex numbers to Clifford algebra is exactly analogous to generalization of fuzzy two-spheres to higher dimensional fuzzy spheres. Higher dimensional fuzzy spheres have an interesting hierarchical structure made of "compounds" of lower dimensional spheres. We give a physical interpretation for such particular structure of fuzzy spheres by utilizing Landau models in generic ev…
Starting with a N=4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory in four dimensions with gauge group SU(3N) we perform an orbifold projection leading to a N=1 supersymmetric SU(N)^3 Yang-Mills theory with matter supermultiplets in bifundamental representations of the gauge group, which is chiral and anomaly free. Subsequently, we search for vacua of the projected theory which can be interpreted as spontaneously generated twisted fuzzy spheres. We show that by adding the appropriate soft supersymmetry breaking terms we can indeed reveal such vacua. Three cases are studied, where the gauge group is spontane…
We analyze the holographic description of non-singlet baryons in various backgrounds with reduced supersymmetries and/or confinement. We show that they exist in all AdS_5xY_5 backgrounds with Y_5 an Einstein manifold bearing five form flux, for a number of quarks 5N/8< k< N, independently on the supersymmetries preserved. This result still holds for gamma_i deformations. In the confining Maldacena-Nunez background non-singlet baryons also exist, although in this case the interval for the number of quarks is reduced as compared to the conformal case. We generalize these configurations to includ…
We evaluate the effective actions of supersymmetric matrix models on fuzzy S^2\times S^2 up to the two loop level. Remarkably it turns out to be a consistent solution of IIB matrix model. Based on the power counting and SUSY cancellation arguments, we can identify the 't Hooft coupling and large N scaling behavior of the effective actions to all orders. In the large N limit, the quantum corrections survive except in 2 dimensional limits. They are O(N) and O(N^{4\over 3}) for 4 and 6 dimensional spaces respectively. We argue that quantum effects single out 4 dimensionality among fuzzy homogeneo…
By extending the algebraic description of the bosonic rank-three tensor models, a general framework for super rank-three tensor models and correspondence to super fuzzy spaces is proposed. The corresponding super fuzzy spaces must satisfy a certain cyclicity condition on the algebras of functions on them. Due to the cyclicity condition, the symmetry of the super rank-three tensor models are represented by super n-ary transformations. The Leibnitz rules and the fundamental identities for the super n-ary transformations are discussed from the perspective of the symmetry of the algebra of a fuzzy…
Recent vigorous investigations of topological order have not only discovered new topological states of matter but also shed new light to "already known" topological states. One established example with topological order is the valence bond solid (VBS) states in quantum antiferromagnets. The VBS states are disordered spin liquids with no spontaneous symmetry breaking but most typically manifest topological order known as hidden string order on 1D chain. Interestingly, the VBS models are based on mathematics analogous to fuzzy geometry. We review applications of the mathematics of fuzzy super-ge…
Via a challenging field-theory computation, we confirm a supergravity prediction for the non-supersymmetric D3-D7 probe-brane system with probe geometry AdS_4 x S^2 x S^2, stabilized by fluxes. Supergravity predicts, in a certain double-scaling limit, the value of the one-point functions of chiral primaries of the dual defect version of N=4 SYM theory, where the fluxes translate into SO(3) x SO(3)-symmetric, Lie-algebra-valued vacuum expectation values for all six scalar fields. Using a generalization of the technique based on fuzzy spherical harmonics developed for the related D3-D5 probe-bra…
As a perturbative check of the construction of four-dimensional (4D) ${\cal N}=4$ supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory (SYM) from mass deformed ${\cal N}=(8,8)$ SYM on the two-dimensional (2D) lattice, the one-loop effective action for scalar kinetic terms is computed in ${\cal N}=4$ $U(k)$ SYM on ${\mathbb R}^2 \times$ (fuzzy $S^2$), which is obtained by expanding 2D ${\cal N}=(8,8)$ $U(N)$ SYM with mass deformation around its fuzzy sphere classical solution. The radius of the fuzzy sphere is proportional to the inverse of the mass. We consider two successive limits: (1) decompactify the fuzzy sp…
We propose a deformation of ${\cal N}=4$ SYM theoery induced by nonanticommutative star product. The deformation introduces new bosonic terms which we identify with the corresponding Myers terms of a stack of D3-branes in the presence of a five-form RR flux. We take this as an indication that the deformed lagrangian describes D3-branes in such a background. The vacuum states of the theory are also examined. In a specific case where the U(1) part of the gauge field is nonvanishing the (anti)holomorphic transverse coordinates of the brane sit on a fuzzy two sphere. For a supersymmetric vacuum th…
Developing a non-compact version of the SUSY Hopf map, we formulate the quantum Hall effect on a super-hyperboloid. Based on $OSp(1|2)$ group theoretical methods, we first analyze the one-particle Landau problem, and successively explore the many-body problem where Laughlin wavefunction, hard-core pseudo-potential Hamiltonian and topological excitations are derived. It is also shown that the fuzzy super-hyperboloid emerges in the lowest Landau level.
We employ machine learning techniques to provide accurate variational wavefunctions for matrix quantum mechanics, with multiple bosonic and fermionic matrices. Variational quantum Monte Carlo is implemented with deep generative flows to search for gauge invariant low energy states. The ground state, and also long-lived metastable states, of an $\mathrm{SU}(N)$ matrix quantum mechanics with three bosonic matrices, as well as its supersymmetric `mini-BMN' extension, are studied as a function of coupling and $N$. Known semiclassical fuzzy sphere states are recovered, and the collapse of these geo…
