Let p be a prime number. The p-adic case of the Mixed Littlewood Conjecture states that liminf_{q \to \infty} q . |q|_p . ||q x|| = 0 for all real numbers x. We show that with the additional factor of log q.loglog q the statement is false. Indeed, our main result implies that the set of x for which liminf_{q\to\infty} q . log q . loglog q. |q|_p . ||qx|| > 0 is of full dimension. The result is obtained as an application of a general framework for Cantor sets developed in this paper.
Given an $a$-dimensional linear subspace $\mathfrak{A}$ in $\mathbb{R}^d$ which contains a badly approximable $b$-dimensional subspace $\mathfrak{B} \subset \mathfrak{A}$. We study the badly approximability almost all $c$-dimensional linear subspaces $\mathfrak{C} \subset \mathfrak{A}$.

We establish a strong form of Littlewood's conjecture with inhomogeneous shifts, for a full-dimensional set of pairs of badly approximable numbers on a vertical line. We also prove a uniform assertion of this nature, generalising a strong form of a result by Haynes, Jensen and Kristensen. Finally, we establish a similar result involving inhomogeneously badly approximable numbers, making progress towards a problem posed by Pollington, Velani, Zafeiropoulos and Zorin.
We explore and refine techniques for estimating the Hausdorff dimension of exceptional sets and their diffeomorphic images. Specifically, we use a variant of Schmidt's game to deduce the strong C^1 incompressibility of the set of badly approximable systems of linear forms as well as of the set of vectors which are badly approximable with respect to a fixed system of linear forms.
We consider approximation of vectors $\mathbf{z}\in F\otimes\mathbb{R}\cong\mathbb{R}^r\times\mathbb{C}^s$ by elements of a number field $F$ and construct examples of badly approximable vectors. Motivated by a wonderful paper by Ngoc Ai Van Nguyen, Anthony Poëls and Damien Roy, where a powerful method was introduced, we prove a criterion for a vector $\pmbα\in \mathbb{R}^d$ to be a badly approximable vector. Moreover we construct certain examples which show that a more general version of our criterion is not valid.

Moreover, we prove that $τ_{TM}(a)=0.01101001..._a$ is not badly approximable for every integer base $a\geq 2$ such that $a$ is not divisible by 15. This paper is motivated by two problems in the theory of Diophantine approximation, namely, Davenport's problem regarding badly approximable points on submanifolds of a Euclidean space and Schmidt's problem regarding the intersections of the sets of weighted badly approximable points. Let $K$ be a number field, let $S$ be the set of all normalized, non-conjugate Archimedean valuations of $K$, and let $K_{S} = \prod_{v \in S} K_v$ be the Minkowski space associated with $K$. We strengthen recent results of \cite{EsdahlKristensen10} and \cite{EinsiedlerGhoshLytle13} by showing that the set of badly approximable elements of $K_S$ is $\mathcal{H}$-absolute winning for a certain family of subspaces of $K_{S}$.

In this paper, we study the weighted $n$-dimensional badly approximable points on manifolds. Given a $C^n$ differentiable non-degenerate submanifold $\mathcal{U} \subset \mathbb{R}^n$, we will show that any countable intersection of the sets of the weighted badly approximable points on $\mathcal{U}$ has full Hausdorff dimension. This strengthens a result of Beresnevich by removing the condition on weights and weakening the smoothness condition on manifolds. In this paper we investigate the problem of how well points in finite dimensional p-adic solenoids can be approximated by rationals. The setting we work in was previously studied by Palmer, who proved analogues of Dirichlet's theorem and the Duffin-Schaeffer theorem. We prove a complementary result, showing that the set of badly approximable points has maximum Hausdorff dimension. Our proof is a simple application of the elegant machinery of Schmidt's game.

We give an optimal version of the classical ``three-gap theorem'' on the fractional parts of $n θ$, in the case where $θ$ is an irrational number that is badly approximable. As a consequence, we deduce a version of Kronecker's inhomogeneous approximation theorem in one dimension for badly approximable numbers. We apply these results to obtain an improved measure of sequence diversity for characteristic Sturmian sequences, where the slope is badly approximable.

A badly approximable system of affine forms is determined by a matrix and a vector. We show Kleinbock's conjecture for badly approximable systems of affine forms: for any fixed vector, the set of badly approximable systems of affine forms is winning (in the sense of Schmidt games) even when restricted to a fractal (from a certain large class of fractals). In addition, we consider fixing the matrix instead of the vector where an analog statement holds.

For any i,j > 0 with i+j =1, let Bad(i,j) denote the set of points (x,y) in R^2 for which max {||qx ||^{1/i}, ||qy||^{1/j}} > c/q for all integers q >0. Here c = c(x,y) is a positive constant. Our main result implies that any finite intersection of such sets with C has full Hausdorff dimension. This provides a solution to a problem of Davenport dating back to the sixties.
The set of badly approximable $m \times n $ matrices is known to have Hausdorff dimension $mn $. Each such matrix comes with its own approximation constant $c$, and one can ask for the dimension of the set of badly approximable matrices with approximation constant greater than or equal to some fixed $c$. In the one-dimensional case, a very precise answer to this question is known. In this note, we obtain upper and lower bounds in higher dimensions.
Cycle integrals of modular functions are expected to play a role in real quadratic analogue of singular moduli. In this paper, we extend the definition of cycle integrals of modular functions from real quadratic numbers to badly approximable numbers. In this paper we prove that badly approximable points on any analytic non-degenerate curve in $\mathbb{R}^n$ is an absolute winning set. This confirms a key conjecture in the area stated by Badziahin and Velani (2014) which represents a far-reaching generalisation of Davenport's problem from the 1960s. Amongst various consequences of our main result is a solution to Bugeaud's problem on real numbers badly approximable by algebraic numbers of arbitrary degree. The proof relies on new ideas from fractal geometry and homogeneous dynamics.

We prove that for all $b$, the Hausdorff dimension of the set of $m \times n$ matrices $ε$-badly approximable for the target $b$ is not full. The doubly metric case follows. It was known that for almost every matrix $A$, the Hausdorff dimension of the set $Bad_A(ε)$ of $ε$-badly approximable target $b$ is not full, and that for real numbers $α$, $\dim_H Bad_α(ε)=1$ if and only if $α$ is singular on average. We show that if $\dim_H Bad_A(ε)=m$, then $A$ is singular on average.

Using the discrepancy metric, we analyze the rate of convergence of a random walk on the circle generated by d rotations, and establish sharp rates that show that badly approximable d-tuples in R^d give rise to walks with the fastest convergence. We use the discrepancy metric because the walk does not converge in total variation. For badly approximable d-tuples, the discrepancy is bounded above and below by (constant)k^(-d/2), where k is the number of steps in the random walk. We show how the constants depend on the d-tuple.

Approximation in this paper is of vectors on the unit $d$-cube by the projection of integer lattice points onto the same cube. We define badly approximable vectors on a rational quadratic variety and show that sets of these vectors, which are (naturally) indexed by $m \in \QQ$, are winning and strong winning in the sense of Schmidt games. From the winning property, it follows that these sets have full Hausdorff dimension and, moreover, so does their intersection. In most cases, these sets are known to be null sets.

In this paper we prove inequalities for multiplicative analogues of Diophantine exponents, similar to the ones known in the classical case.
