It is shown that the diameter of a compact shrinking Ricci soliton has a universal lower bound. This is proved by extending universal estimates for the first non-zero eigenvalue of Laplacian on compact Riemannian manifolds with lower Ricci curvature bound to a twisted Laplacian on compact shrinking Ricci solitons.
We give two new proofs of Perelman's theorem that shrinking breathers of Ricci flow on closed manifolds are gradient Ricci solitons, using the fact that the singularity models of type I solutions are shrinking gradient Ricci solitons and the fact that non-collapsed type I ancient solutions have rescaled limits being shrinking gradient Ricci solitons.
In this paper, we prove some rigidity results for both shrinking and expanding Ricci solitons. First, we prove that compact shrinking Ricci solitons are Einstein if we control the maximum value of the potential function. Then, we prove some rigidity results for non-compact gradient expanding and shrinking Ricci solitons with pinched Ricci and scalar curvatures, assuming an asymptotic condition on the scalar curvature at infinity.
Let $(Y,d)$ be a Gromov-Hausdorff limit of closed shrinking Ricci solitons with uniformly upper bounded diameter and lower bounded volume. We prove that off a closed subset of codimension at least 2, $Y$ is a smooth manifold satisfying a shrinking Ricci soliton equation.
We prove rigidity theorems for shrinking gradient Ricci solitons supporting the Heisenberg-Pauli-Weyl uncertainty principle with the sharp constant in $\mathbb{R}^n$. In addtion, we partially give analogous rigidity results of the Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg inequalities on shrinking Ricci solitons.
Huisken studied asymptotic behavior of a mean curvature flow in a Euclidean space when it develops a singularity of type I, and proved that its rescaled flow converges to a self-shrinker in the Euclidean space. In this paper, we generalize this result for a Ricci-mean curvature flow moving along a Ricci flow constructed from a gradient shrinking Ricci soliton.
As of today, there are very few known complete shrinking Ricci solitons in dimension 4, and all examples discovered so far are Kähler and/or Einstein. In this note, we prove that any four dimensional J-invariant gradient shrinking Ricci solitons satisfy a differential form identity relating Kählerity annd Einstein-ness.
We prove that there does not exist non-constant positive $f$-harmonic function on the complete gradient shrinking Ricci solitons. We also prove the $L^{p}(p\geq 1 \ {\rm or}\ 0<p\leq 1)$ Liouville theorems on the complete gradient shrinking Ricci solitons.
In this paper, we first apply an integral identity on Ricci solitons to prove that closed locally conformally flat gradient Ricci solitons are of constant sectional curvature. We then generalize this integral identity to complete noncompact gradient shrinking Ricci solitons, under the conditions that the Ricci curvature is bounded from below and the Riemannian curvature tensor has at most exponential growth. As a consequence of this identity, we classify complete locally conformally flat gradient shrinking Ricci solitons with Ricci curvature bounded from below.
We give a sharp upper diameter bound for a compact shrinking Ricci soliton in terms of its scalar curvature integral and the Perelman's entropy functional. The sharp cases could occur at round spheres. The proof mainly relies on a sharp logarithmic Sobolev inequality of gradient shrinking Ricci solitons and a Vitali-type covering argument.
On gradient shrinking Ricci solitons, we observe that the study of Schrödinger heat kernel seems to be more natural than the classical heat kernel. In this paper we derive sharp Gaussian upper bounds for the Schrödinger heat kernel on complete gradient shrinking Ricci solitons. As applications, we prove sharp upper bounds for the Green's function of the Schrödinger operator. We also prove sharp lower bounds for eigenvalues of the Schrödinger operator. These sharp cases are all achieved at Euclidean Gaussian shrinking Ricci solitons.
We prove that a gradient shrinking Ricci soliton with fourth order divergence-free Riemannian tensor is rigid. For the $4$-dimensional case, we show that any gradient shrinking Ricci soliton with fourth order divergence-free Riemannian tensor is either Einstein, or a finite quotient of the Gaussian shrinking soliton $\mathbb{R}^4$, $\mathbb{R}^2\times\mathbb{S}^2$ or the round cylinder $\mathbb{R}\times\mathbb{S}^3$. Under the condition of fourth order divergence-free Weyl tensor, we have the same results.
In this paper, we have proved that if a complete conformally flat gradient shrinking Ricci soliton has linear volume growth or the scalar curvature is finitely integrable and also the reciprocal of the potential function is subharmonic, then the manifold is isometric to the Euclidean sphere. As a consequence, we have showed that a four dimensional gradient shrinking Ricci soliton satisfying some conditions is isometric to $\mathbb{S}^4$ or $\mathbb{RP}^4$ or $\mathbb{CP}^2$. We have also deduced a condition for the shrinking Ricci soliton to be compact with quadratic volume growth.
We prove that the sharp Li-Yau equality holds for the conjugate heat kernel on shrinking Ricci solitons without any curvature or volume assumptions. This quantity yields several estimates which allows us to classify four dimensional, non-compact shrinking Ricci solitons, which arise as Type I singularity models to the Ricci flow.
We prove that a shrinking gradient Ricci soliton which is asymptotic to a Kähler cone along some end is itself Kähler on some neighborhood of infinity of that end. When the shrinker is complete, it is globally Kähler.
In this paper, we study the following conjecture of Hamilton: Any compact gradient shrinking Ricci soliton with positive curvature operator must be Einstein. We first derive several identities. Then we show that the conjecture is true under an additional condition. Furthermore, such a soliton must be of constant curvature.
We prove the existence of a unique complete shrinking gradient Kähler-Ricci soliton with bounded scalar curvature on the blowup of $\mathbb{C}\times\mathbb{P}^{1}$ at one point. This completes the classification of such solitons in two complex dimensions.
In this short note, using an argument by Munteanu and Wang, we provide an alternative proof of the fact first obtained by Lei Ni that shrinking gradient Kähler-Ricci solitons with positive bisectional curvature must be compact.
In this paper we prove some spectral properties of the drifted Laplacian of self-shrinkers properly immersed in gradient shrinking Ricci solitons. Then we use these results to prove some geometric properties of self-shrinkers. For example, we describe a collection of domains in the ambient space that cannot contain self-shrinkers.
In this paper we derive a precise estimate on the growth of potential functions of complete noncompact shrinking solitons. Based on this, we prove that a complete noncompact gradient shrinking Ricci soliton has at most Euclidean volume growth. The latter result can be viewed as an analog of the well-known theorem of Bishop that a complete noncompact Riemannian manifold with nonnegative Ricci curvature has at most Euclidean volume growth.
In this paper, we first show that a complete shrinking breather with Ricci curvature bounded from below must be a shrinking gradient Ricci soliton. This result has several applications. First, we can classify all complete $3$-dimensional shrinking breathers. Second, we can show that every complete shrinking Ricci soliton with Ricci curvature bounded from below must be gradient -- a generalization of Naber's result. Furthermore, we develop a general condition for the existence of the asymptotic shrinking gradient Ricci soliton, which hopefully will contribute to the study of ancient solutions.
We prove that an $n$-dimensional, $n\geq4$, compact gradient shrinking Ricci soliton satisfying a $L^{\frac n2}$-pinching condition is isometric to a quotient of the round $\mathbb{S}^n$, which improves the rigidity theorem given by G. Catino (arXiv:1509.07416vl).
We classify four-dimensional shrinking Ricci solitons satisfying $Sec \geq \frac{1}{24} R$, where $Sec$ and $R$ denote the sectional and the scalar curvature, respectively. They are isometric to either $\mathbb{R}^{4}$ (and quotients), $\mathbb{S}^{4}$, $\mathbb{RP}^{4}$ or $\mathbb{CP}^{2}$ with their standard metrics.
We prove that a $n$-dimensional, $4 \leq n \leq 6$, compact gradient shrinking Ricci soliton satisfying a $L^{n/2}$-pinching condition is isometric to a quotient of the round $\mathbb{S}^{n}$. The proof relies mainly on sharp algebraic curvature estimates, the Yamabe-Sobolev inequality and an improved rigidity result for integral pinched Einstein metrics.
We survey some of the recent progress on complete gradient shrinking Ricci solitons, including the classifications in dimension three and asymptotic behavior of potential functions as well as volume growths of geodesic balls in higher dimensions. This article is written for the conference proceedings dedicated to Yau's 60th birthday.
A closed four dimensional manifold cannot possess a non-flat Ricci soliton metric with arbitrarily small $L^2$-norm of the curvature. In this paper, we localize this fact in the case of shrinking Ricci solitons by proving an $\varepsilon$-regularity theorem, thus confirming a conjecture of Cheeger-Tian. As applications, we will also derive structural results concerning the degeneration of the metrics on a family of complete non-compact four dimensional shrinking Ricci solitons without a uniform entropy lower bound. In the appendix, we provide a detailed account of the equivariant good chopping…
Suppose $M$ is a compact n-dimensional manifold, $n\ge 2$, with a metric $g_{ij}(x,t)$ that evolves by the Ricci flow $\partial_tg_{ij}=-2R_{ij}$ in $M\times (0,T)$. We will give a simple proof of a recent result of Perelman on the non-existence of shrinking breather without using the logarithmic Sobolev inequality.
We prove that any $n$--dimensional complete gradient Ricci soliton with pinched Weyl curvature is a finite quotient of $\RR^{n}$, $\RR \times \SS^{n-1}$ or $\SS^{n}$. In particular, we do not need to assume the metric to be locally conformally flat.
Let $(M, g, f)$ be a $4$-dimensional complete noncompact gradient shrinking Ricci soliton with the equation $Ric+\nabla^2f=λg$, where $λ$ is a positive real number. We prove that if $M$ has constant scalar curvature $S=2λ$, it must be a quotient of $\mathbb{S}^2\times \mathbb{R}^2$. Together with the known results, this implies that a $4$-dimensional complete gradient shrinking Ricci soliton has constant scalar curvature if and only if it is rigid, that is, it is either Einstein, or a finite quotient of Gaussian shrinking soliton $\Bbb{R}^4$, $\Bbb{S}^{2}\times\Bbb{R}^{2}$ or $\Bbb{S}^{3}\time…
We show that if a shrinking soliton is asymptotic to a cone along an end then the isometry group of the cross-section of the cone embeds in the isometry group of the end of the shrinker. We also provide sufficient conditions for the isometries of the end to extend to the entire shrinker.
In this paper, we study constant weighted mean curvature hypersurfaces in shrinking Ricci solitons. First, we show that a constant weighted mean curvature hypersurface with finite weighted volume cannot lie in a region determined by a special level set of the potential function, unless it is the level set. Next, we show that a compact constant weighted mean curvature hypersurface with a certain upper bound or lower bound on the mean curvature is a level set of the potential function. We can apply both results to the cylinder shrinking Ricci soliton ambient space. Finally, we show that a consta…
On a complete non-compact gradient shrinking Ricci soliton, we prove the analyticity in time for smooth solutions of the heat equation with quadratic exponential growth in the space variable. This growth condition is sharp. As an application, we give a necessary and sufficient condition on the solvability of the backward heat equation in a class of functions with quadratic exponential growth on shrinkers.
In this paper, we shall give a lower diameter bound for compact domain manifolds of shrinking Ricci-harmonic solitons. Our result may be regarded as a generalization to Ricci-harmonic geometry of the recent works by Fernández-López and García-Río (Q. J. Math. 61, 319--327, 2010), Futaki and Sano (Asian J. Math. 17, 17--32, 2013), and Futaki \textit{et al} (Ann. Global Anal. Geom. 44, 105--114, 2013).
We prove that every entire self-shrinking solution on $\mathbb{C}^n$ to the Kähler-Ricci flow with strictly real convex potential must be quadratic. The very same argument also gives a pointwise proof for the rigidity of entire self-shrinking solutions to Lagrangian mean curvature flow in pseudo-Euclidean space obtained by Q. Ding and Y.L. Xin. Furthermore, we show that our argument works for a larger class of equations.
In this paper, we give a lower bound estimate for the diameter of a Lagrangian self-shrinker in a gradient shrinking Kähler-Ricci soliton as an analog of a result of A. Futaki, H. Li and X.-D. Li for a self-shrinker in a Euclidean space. We also prove an analog of a result of H.-D. Cao and H. Li about the non-existence of compact self-expanders in a Euclidean space.
In this short note, using Günther's volume comparison theorem and Yokota's gap theorem on complete shrinking gradient Ricci solitons, we prove that for any complete shrinking gradient Ricci soliton $(M^{n},g,f)$ with sectional curvature $K(g)<A$ and ${\rm Vol}_{f}(M)\geq v$ for some uniform constant $A,v$, there exists a small uniform constant $ε_{n,A,v}>0$ depends only on $n, A$ and $v$, if the scalar curvature $R\leq ε_{n,A,v}$, then $(M,g,f)$ is isometric to the Gaussian soliton $(\mathbb{R}^{n}, g_{E}, \frac{|x|^{2}}{4})$.
We prove that a shrinking gradient Ricci soliton which agrees to infinite order at spatial infinity with one of the standard cylindrical metrics on $S^k\times \RR^{n-k}$ for $k\geq 2$ along some end must be isometric to the cylinder on that end. When the underlying manifold is complete, it must be globally isometric either to the cylinder or (when $k=n-1$) to its $\ZZ_2$-quotient.
We prove that a four-dimensional gradient shrinking Ricci soliton with $δW^{\pm}=0$ is either Einstein, or a finite quotient of $S^3\times\mathbb{R}$, $S^2\times\mathbb{R}^2$ or $\mathbb{R}^4$. We also prove that a four-dimensional cscK gradient Ricci soliton is either Kähler-Einstein, or a finite quotient of $M\times\mathbb{C}$, where $M$ is a Riemann surface. The main arguments are curvature decompositions, the Weitzenböck formula for half Weyl curvature, and the maximum principle.
We show that if a complete Riemannian manifold supports a vector field such that the Ricci tensor plus the Lie derivative of the metric with respect to the vector field has a positive lower bound, then the fundamental group is finite. In particular, it follows that complete shrinking Ricci solitons and complete smooth metric measure spaces with a positive lower bound on the Bakry-Emery tensor have finite fundamental group. The method of proof is to generalize arguments of Garcia-Rio and Fernandez-Lopez in the compact case.
We show that in dimensions $n \geq 12$, a non-flat complete gradient shrinking solitons with uniformly positive isotropic curvature (PIC) must be a quotient of either the round sphere $S^n$ or the cylinder $S^{n-1} \times \mathbb{R}$. We also observe that in dimensions $n \geq 5$, a complete gradient shrinking soliton that is strictly PIC and weakly PIC2 must be a quotient of either the round sphere $S^n$ or the cylinder $S^{n-1} \times \mathbb{R}$.
