We study flavor-conserving radiative decays of double heavy baryons using a manifestly Lorentz covariant constituent three-quark model. Decay rates are calculated and compared to each other in the full theory, keeping masses finite, and also in the heavy quark limit. We discuss in some detail hyperfine mixing effects.
We use the color-spin and flavor-spin interaction Hamiltonians with SU(3) flavor symmetry breaking to obtain meson and baryon mass formulas. Adjusting these masses with experimental masses we determine the constituent quark masses. We discuss the constituent quark masses obtained from meson and baryon mass fits. The results for constituent quark masses are very similar in case of two different phenomenological models: Fermi-Breit and Glozman-Riska hyperfine interactions.
The hyperfine mass splittings of baryons in large $N$ QCD are proved to be proportional to ${\bf J}^2$. Hyperfine mass splittings are first allowed at order $1/N$ in the $1/N$ expansion.
We study the spectrum of light flavor baryons in a quark-model framework by taking into account the order $\mathrm{O}(α_s^2)$ hyperfine interactions due to two-gluon exchange between quarks. The calculated spectrum agree better with the experimental data than the results from hyperfine interactions with only one-gluon exchange. It is also shown that two-gluon exchange hyperfine interactions bring a significantly improved correction to the Gell-Mann--Okubo mass formula. Two-gluon exchange corrections on baryon excitations (including negative parity baryons) are also briefly discussed.
In the $m_Q\rightarrow\infty$ limit, the hyperfine splittings in the ground state doubly heavy baryons $\left(QQq\right)$ and single heavy antimesons $(\bar{Q}q)$ are related by heavy quark-diquark symmetry (HQDQ) as the light degrees of freedom in both the hadrons are expected to have identical configurations. In this article, working within the framework of nonrelativistic QCD (NRQCD), we study the perturbative and nonperturbative corrections to the HQDQ symmetry hyperfine splitting relation that scale as ${\cal O}\left(α_s^2\right)$ and $Λ_{\rm QCD}^2/m_Q^2$ respectively. In the extreme hea…
The hyperfine mass splittings of baryons containing a heavy quark are derived at leading order in large $N$ QCD. Hyperfine splittings either preserve or violate heavy quark spin symmetry. Previous work proves that the splittings which preserve heavy quark spin symmetry are proportional to ${\bf J}^2$ at order $1/N$, where $J$ is the angular momentum of the light degrees of freedom of the baryon. This work proves that the splittings which violate heavy quark spin symmetry are proportional to ${\bf J} \cdot {\bf S_Q}$ at order $1/(N m_Q)$ in the $1/N$ and $1/m_Q$ expansions.
In this paper we discuss a quantity that can be derived from the hadronic spectrum - the ratio between the color hyperfine splitting of a K meson and that of a Sigma baryon. It will be shown that within the constituent quark model this ratio depends only on the ratio of contact probabilities within the hadrons. We compute this ratio assuming several phenomenological potential models, and show that the best agreement with data is obtained from the Cornell potential - Coulomb + linear. Thus the analysis of color hyperfine interactions corroborat es the preference for the Cornell potential based …
The $Σ_c^*-Σ_c$ and $Σ_b^*-Σ_b$ hyperfine mass splittings are computed in the Skyrme model. The hyperfine splittings are suppressed by both $1/N_c$ and by $1/m_Q$, where $N_c$ is the number of colors and $m_Q$ is the mass of the heavy quark. The $Σ_c$, $Σ_c^*$, $Σ_b$, $Σ_b^*$, and $Λ_b$ masses are predicted in terms of the known values of the $Λ_c$, $D$, $D^*$, $B$ and $B^*$ masses.
We investigate the hyperfine splitting of the heavy baryons in the bound-state approach. We start with an ordinary relativistic Lagrangian which has been extensively used to discuss finite mass corrections to the heavy limit predictions. It turns out that the dominant contribution arises from terms which do not manifestly break the heavy spin symmetry. The actual heavy spin violating terms are uncovered by carefully performing a 1/M expansion of this Lagrangian.
We analyze the effects of hyperfine mixing in $b \to c$ semileptonic decays of doubly heavy baryons. We qualitatively confirm the results by W. Roberts and M. Pervin in Int. J. Mod. Phys. A, 2009, {\bf 24}: 2401-2413, finding that mixing has a great impact on those transitions. However, predictions without mixing differ by a factor of 2 and this discrepancy translates to the mixed case where large differences in decay widths are observed between the two calculations.
We qualitatively corroborate the results of W. Roberts and M. Pervin in Int. J. Mod. Phys. A 24, 2401 (2009) according to which hyperfine mixing greatly affects the decay widths of $b\to c$ semileptonic decays involving doubly heavy $bc$ baryons. However, our predictions for the decay widths of the unmixed states differ from those reported in the work of Roberts and Pervin by a factor of 2, and this discrepancy translates to the mixed case. We further show that the predictions of heavy quark spin symmetry, might be used in the future to experimentally extract information on the admixtures in t…
We calculate the next-to-leading order contribution to the masses of the heavy baryons in the bound state approach for baryons containing a heavy quark. These $1/N_C$ corrections arise when states of good spin and isospin are generated from the background soliton of the light meson fields. Our study is motivated by the previously established result that light vector meson fields are required for this soliton in order to reasonably describe the spectrum of both the light and the heavy baryons. We note that the inclusion of light vector mesons significantly improves the agreement of the predicte…
Up to now, the excited charmed and bottom baryon states are still not well studied both experimentally and theoretically. In the present paper, we predict the mass of $Ω_b^*$, the only $L = 0$ baryon state which has not been observed, to be 6069.2 MeV. The spectra of charmed and bottom baryons with the orbital angular momentum $L = 1$ are studied in two popular constituent quark models, the Goldstone boson exchange (GBE) and the one gluon exchange (OGE) hyperfine interaction models, respectively. Inserting the latest experimental data from the "Review of Particle Physics", we find that in the …
We consider the role played by hyperfine mixing in electromagnetic and semileptonic decays of doubly heavy baryons, which give rise to large corrections to the decay widths in both cases.
Hadron masses are calculated in quenched lattice QCD with a fermion action of the D234 type on an anisotropic lattice. Hyperfine splittings for singly charmed baryons are found to be in agreement with expectations from the quark model and with a magnitude slightly larger than experimental values. Masses of doubly charmed baryons are also calculated and compared to a variety of model calculations. Hyperfine splittings in doubly charmed baryons are found to be slightly smaller than in singly charmed states.
Doubly heavy baryons $\left(QQq\right)$ and singly heavy antimesons $\left(\bar{Q}q\right)$ are related by the heavy quark-diquark (HQDQ) symmetry because in the $m_Q \to \infty$ limit, the light degrees of freedom in both the hadrons are expected to be in identical configurations. Hyperfine splittings of the ground states in both systems are nonvanishing at $O(1/m_Q)$ in the heavy quark mass expansion and HQDQ symmetry relates the hyperfine splittings in the two sectors. In this paper, working within the framework of Non-Relativistic QCD (NRQCD), we point out the existence of an operator that…
We apply color-spin and flavor-spin quark-quark interactions to the meson and baryon constituent quarks, and calculate constituent quark masses, as well as the coupling constants of these interactions. The main goal of this paper was to determine constituent quark masses from light and open bottom hadron masses, using the fitting method we have developed and clustering of hadron groups. We use color-spin Fermi-Breit (FB) and flavor-spin Glozman-Riska (GR) hyperfine interaction (HFI) to determine constituent quark masses (especially $b$ quark mass). Another aim was to discern between the FB and…
We present a study of the baryon spectra for all flavor sectors within a constituent quark model. We address some of the outstanding problems in baryon spectroscopy, as for example the spin splitting evolution for te different flavor sectors, the flavor independence of confinement and the missing state problem.
The constituent quark model with color-spin hyperfine potential is used to investigate the property of a compact pentaquark configuration with $J^p$=$3/2^-$ and isospin=1/2, which is the most likely quantum number of one of the recently observed exotic baryon states at LHCb. Starting from the characterization of the isospin, color, and spin states for the pentaquark configuration, we construct the total wave function composed of the spatial wave function, which we take to be symmetric and in S-wave, and the four orthogonal isospin $\otimes$ color $\otimes$ spin states that satisfy the Pauli pr…
Meson loop corrections to baryon axial currents are computed in the 1/N expansion. It is already known that the one-loop corrections are suppressed by a factor 1/N; here it is shown that the two-loop corrections are suppressed by (1/N)^2. To leading order, these corrections are exactly what would be calculated in the constituent quark model. Some applications are discussed.
We present a relativistic constituent-quark model that covers all known baryons from the nucleon up to $Ω_{bbb}$. The corresponding invariant mass operator includes a linear confinement and a hyperfine interaction based on effective degrees of freedom. The model provides for a unified description of practically all baryon spectra in good agreement with present phenomenology and it can tentatively be employed for the relativistic treatment of all kinds of baryon reactions. Predictions of states still missing in the phenomenological data base, especially in the lesser explored heavy-flavor secto…
We study the semileptonic decays of double heavy baryons using a manifestly Lorentz covariant constituent three-quark model. We present complete results on transition form factors between double-heavy baryons for finite values of the heavy quark/baryon masses and in the heavy quark symmetry limit which is valid at and close to zero recoil. Decay rates are calculated and compared to each other in the full theory, keeping masses finite, and also in the heavy quark limit.
We extend the confined covariant constituent quark model that was previously developed by us for mesons to the baryon sector. In our numerical calculation we use the same values for the constituent quark masses and the infrared cutoff as have been previously used in the meson sector. In a first application we describe the static properties of the proton and neutron, and the $Λ$-hyperon (magnetic moments and charge radii) and the behavior of the nucleon form factors at low momentum transfers. We discuss in some detail the conservation of gauge invariance of the electromagnetic transition matrix…
We extend the model for QCD string with quarks to consider the Mercedes Benz string configuration describing the three-quark baryon. Under the assumption of adiabatic separation of quark and string junction motion we formulate and solve the classical equation of motion for the junction. We dare to quantize the motion of the junction, and discuss the impact of these modes on the baryon spectra.
Within an extended chiral constituent quark formalism, we investigate contributions from all possible five-quark components in the octet baryons to the pion-baryon ($σ_{πB}$) and strangeness-baryon ($σ_{s B}$) sigma terms; $B \equiv N,~Λ,~Σ,~Ξ$. The probabilities of the quark-antiquark components in the ground-state baryon octet wave functions are calculated by taking the baryons to be admixtures of three- and five-quark components, with the relevant transitions handled {\it via} the $^{3}$P$_{0}$ mechanism. Predictions for $σ_{πB}$ and $σ_{s B}$ obtained by using input parameters taken from t…
An elementary constituent-quark (CQ) model of mesons was previously presented. In this paper, we continue research into a study of the baryons in the constituent-quark model. Mac Gregor proposed a comprehensive model of elementary particles for which both mesons and baryons shared common mass-band structure in quantized units of m = 70 MeV, B= 140 MeV and X = 420 MeV. A review of the baryon data is under taken for comparison with the CQ model. It is shown in this paper that baryons possess an isospin I related to the mass quantum m = 70 MeV and to the B = 140 MeV quantum (or the mass of the pi…
In this work, the different exchange freedom, one gluon, one pion or Goldstone boson, in constituent quark model is investigated, which is responsible to the hyperfine interaction between constituent quarks, via the combined analysis of the eta production processes, $π^{-}p\rightarrowηn$ and $γp\rightarrowηp$. With the Goldstone-boson exchange, as well as the one-gluon or one-pion exchange, both the spectrum and observables, such as, the differential cross section and polarized beam asymmetry, are fitted to the suggested values of Particle Data Group and the experimental data. The first two ty…
Hyperfine interactions in the light meson and baryon sectors are generalized to the charm and bottom systems. It is pointed out that an attempt to increase the value of the wave function at the origin to account for the unusual ratio of $Λ_{b}$ to the $B^0$ lifetimes could spoil the good agreement among the baryon and meson hyperfine mass-splitting. Including spin effects and taking phase space differences into account we predict that the decay rate of the $Λ_{b}$ can be increased relative to that of the $B^0$ meson by about 7%.
We calculate the electroweak properties of nucleons and hyperons in a relativistic constituent quark model using the light-front formalism. The parameters of the model, namely the constituent quark mass and the confinement scale, can be uniquely chosen for both the electromagnetic and weak experimental data. A consistent physical picture of the $qqq$ system appears in this work with a symmetric nucleon wave function and an asymmetric hyperon wave function. Only for the strangeness-changing weak decays do we need nontrivial form factors of the constituent quark.
We investigate the role of hyperfine mixing in the electromagnetic decay of ground state doubly heavy $bc$ baryons. As in the case of a previous calculation on $b\to c$ semileptonic decays of doubly heavy baryons, we find large corrections to the electromagnetic decay widths due to this mixing. Contrary to the weak case just mentioned, we find here that one can not use electromagnetic width relations obtained in the infinite heavy quark mass limit to experimentally extract information on the admixtures in a model independent way.
Electromagnetic splittings for mesons and baryons are calculated in a formalism where the constituent quarks are considered as dressed quasiparticles. The electromagnetic interaction, which contains coulomb, contact, and hyperfine terms, is folded with the quark electrical density. Two different types of strong potentials are considered. Numerical treatment is done very carefully and several approximations are discussed in detail. Our model contains only one free parameter and the agreement with experimental data is reasonable although it seems very difficult to obtain a perfect description in…
I discuss the structure of current-induced bottom baryon to charm baryon transitions, and the structure of pion and photon transitions between heavy charm or bottom baryons in the Heavy Quark Symmetry (HQS) limit as $m_Q\rightarrow\infty$. By doing a spin-parity analysis I derive a general formula which allows one to enumerate the independent HQS amplitudes in the three types of transitions. I go on to show that use of the constituent quark model for the light-side diquark transitions leads to a considerable reduction in the number of independent amplitudes derived in the HQS limit. The discus…
In this work, we study the mass spectrum of the $Ω_{ccc}$ and $Ω_{bbb}$ baryons up to the $N=2$ shell within a nonrelativistic constituent quark model (NRCQM). The model parameters are adopted from the determinations by fitting the charmonium and bottomonium spectra in our previous works. The masses of the $Ω_{ccc}$ and $Ω_{bbb}$ baryon states predicted in present work reasonably agree with the results obtained with the Lattice QCD calculations. Furthermore, to provide more knowledge of the $Ω_{ccc}$ and $Ω_{bbb}$ states, we evaluate their radiative decays with the available masses and wave fu…
We study the masses of radial and orbital excited states of nonstrange singly charmed baryons in the framework of hypercentral Constituent Quark Model (hCQM). To obtain the mass spectra, the Coulomb plus screened potential is employed with the first order correction, which gives a relativistic effect of order $\cal{O}$$(1/m)$. The spin-spin, spin-orbit and tensor interactions are included (perturbatively as a spin dependent potential) in order to generate the splitting in mass spectra. We compare our computed mass spectra of nonstrange singly charmed baryons with the other theoretical predicti…
We report results from a study of heavy-baryon spectroscopy within a relativistic constituent- quark model, whose hyperfine interaction is based on Goldstone-boson-exchange dynamics. While for light-flavor constituent quarks it is now commonly accepted that the effective quark-quark interaction is (predominantly) furnished by Goldstone-boson exchange - due to spontaneous chiral-symmetry breaking of quantum chromodynamics at low energies - there is currently still much speculation about the light-heavy and heavy-heavy quark-quark interactions. With the increasing amount of experimental data on …
The quark flavor distribution functions of the octet baryons ($N$, $Σ$, $Ξ$ and $Λ$) have been calculated in the chiral constituent quark model ($χ$CQM). In particular, the valence and sea quark flavor distribution functions of the scalar density matrix elements of octet baryons have been computed explicitly. The implications of chiral symmetry breaking and SU(3) symmetry breaking have been discussed in detail for the sea quark asymmetries, fraction of a particular quark (antiquark) present in a baryon, flavor structure functions and the Gottfried integral. The meson-baryon sigma terms $σ_{πB}…
Single pion transitions of S wave to S wave, P wave to S wave and P wave to P wave heavy baryons are analyzed in the framework of the Heavy Quark Symmetry limit (HQS). We use a constituent quark model picture for the light diquark system with an underlying SU(2N_{f}) X O(3) symmetry to reduce the number of the HQS coupling factors required to describe these transitions. We also use the quantum theory of angular momentum to rewrite the one-pion transitions constituent quark model results in a more general form using the 6j- and 9j-symbols. We finally estimate the decay rates of some single pion…
We explore further the idea that the lattice QCD data for hadron properties in the region m_π^2 > 0.2 GeV^2 can be described by the constituent quark model. This leads to a natural explanation of the fact that nucleon excited states are generally stable for pion masses greater than their physical excitation energies. Finally we apply these same ideas to the problem of how pentaquarks might behave in lattice QCD, with interesting conclusions.
We investigate the meson, baryon and anti-baryon productions in πp and Kp collisions in terms of a constituent cascade model which includes charm flavour. The constituent diquark in an incident baryon has a tendency to get a large momentum fraction, resulting in considerable difference of subenergies for particle productions from quark-diquark and quark-antiquark chains in a meson-baryon collision. As a consequence, the leading particle effects on D meson productions are expected to be quite different in π+ and π- beams at present accelerator energies.
Excited states masses of the strange singly charmed baryons are calculated using the non-relativistic approach of hypercentral Constituent Quark Model (hCQM). The hyper-Coulomb plus screened potential is used as a confinement potential with the first order correction. The spin-spin, spin-orbit and spin-tensor interaction terms are included perturbatively. Our calculated masses are allowed to construct the Regge trajectories in both $(n_r, M^2)$ and $(J, M^2)$ planes. The mass spectra and the Regge trajectories study predict the spin-parity of $Ξ{_c(2970)^{+/0}}$, $Ξ{_c(3080)^{+/0}}$, $Ξ{_c(312…
A study of the finite-size effect is carried out for spectra of both ground-state and excited-state baryons in quenched lattice QCD using Wilson fermions. Our simulations are performed at beta=6.2 with three different spatial sizes, La~1.6, 2.2 and 3.2 fm. It is found that the physical lattice size larger than 3 fm is required for delta states in all spin-parity (J^{P}=1/2^{+/-}, 3/2^{+/-}) channels and also negative-parity nucleon state (J^{P}=1/2^{-}) even in the rather heavy quark mass region. We also find a peculiar behavior of the finite-size effect on the hyperfine mass splittings betwee…
We present a consistent way of describing heavy baryons containing a heavy quark as bound states of an $SU(2)$ soliton and heavy mesons. The resulting mass formula reveals the heavy quark symmetry explicitly. By extending the model to the orbitally excited states, we establish the generic structure of the heavy baryon spectrum. As anticipated from the heavy quark spin symmetry, the $c$-factor denoting the hyperfine splitting constant {\em vanishes} and the baryons with the same angular momentum of light degrees of freedom form degenerate doublets. This approach is also applied to the pentaquar…
We discuss certain general features of the pentaquark picture for the theta, its 10bar_F partner, Xi_{3/2}, and possible heavy quark analogues. Models employing spin-dependent interactions based on either effective Goldstone boson exchange or effective color magnetic exchange are also used to shed light on possible corrections to the Jaffe-Wilczek and Karliner-Lipkin scenarios. Some model-dependent features of the pentaquark picture (splitting patterns and relative decay couplings) are also discussed in the context of these models.
The space-like elastic form factors of baryons containing a heavy quark are investigated within a light-front constituent quark model in the limit of infinite heavy-quark mass, adopting a gaussian-like ansatz for the three-quark wave function. The results obtained for the Isgur-Wise form factors corresponding both to a spin-0 and a spin-1 light spectator pair are presented. It is found that the Isgur-Wise functions depend strongly on the baryon structure, being sharply different in case of diquark-like or collinear-type configurations in the three-quark system. It is also shown that the relati…
The radiative baryonic decay $\mathcal{B}^{*}\left(\frac{3}{2}\right)\to\mathcal{B}\left(\frac{1}{2}\right)+γ$ is a magnetic dipole $(M1)$ transition. It requires the transition magnetic moment $μ_{\mathcal{B}\left(3/2\right)\to\mathcal{B}\left(1/2\right)}$. The transition magnetic moments for the helicities $1/2$ and $3/2$ are evaluated in the frame work of constituent quark model in which the intrinsic spin and the magnetic moments of quarks $u,d$ and $s$ play a key role. Within this framework, the radiative decays $Δ^{+}\to p +γ$, $Σ^{*0}\to Λ+γ$, $Σ^{*+}\to Σ^{+}+γ$ and $Ξ^{*0}\to Ξ^{0}+γ$…
We study the strong interactions of the L=1 orbitally excited baryons with one heavy quark in the framework of the Heavy Hadron Chiral Perturbation Theory. To leading order in the heavy mass expansion, the interaction Lagrangian describing the couplings of these states among themselves and with the ground state heavy baryons contains 46 unknown couplings. We derive sum rules analogous to the Adler-Weisberger sum rule which constrain these couplings and relate them to the couplings of the s-wave heavy baryons. Using a spin 3/2 baryon as a target, we find a sum rule expressing the deviation from…
The implications of the pion (meson) degrees of freedom for baryon properties, taken at the constituent quark and baryon levels are compared. It is shown that there is a dramatic qualitative difference between two approaches.
The baryon structure is investigated in a covariant diquark-quark model. In this approach baryons emerge as relativistic bound states of a constituent quark and a $0^{+}$ or $1^{+}$ diquark. After solving the Bethe-Salpeter Equation for the scalar diquark quark system in ladder approximation we couple various external currents to the constituents of the baryon to probe its internal structure. The quark and the diquarks are assumed to be confined which is implemented by suitable choices for the propagators. This leads to nontrivial vertex functions between the constituents and the external curr…
The magnetic moments of $J^P=\frac{3}{2}^+$ decuplet baryons have been calculated in the chiral constituent quark model ($χ$CQM) with explicit results for the contribution coming from the valence quark polarizations, sea quark polarizations, and their orbital angular momentum. Since the $J^P=\frac{3}{2}^+$ decuplet baryons have short lifetimes, the experimental information about them is limited. The $χ$CQM has important implications for chiral symmetry breaking as well as SU(3) symmetry breaking since it works in the region between the QCD confinement scale and the chiral symmetry breaking sca…
The two-pion exchange interaction between constituent quarks is shown to enhance the effect of the the isospin dependent spin-spin component of the one-pion exchange interaction, and to cancel out its tensor component. It therefore provides a partial explanation for the phenomenological observation that the hyperfine interaction between constituent quarks is well described by a flavor dependent spin-spin interaction, which is attractive at short and repulsive at long range. The spin-orbit component of the two-pion exchange interaction is stronger than and has the opposite sign from that associ…
Mesonic baryon resonance decays are calculated from constituent quark models along a Poincaré-invariant generalization of the elementary emission model. Covariant results of pionic decay widths are presented for the Goldstone-boson-exchange constituent quark model.
A longitudinal transition operator that satisfies the gauge invariance requirement is introduced in constituent quark model. The corresponding longitudinal transitions between the nucleon and baryon resonances are calculated. We show that the study of the longitudinal coupling plays an important role in understanding the structure of baryons.
New results on baryon structure and spectrum developed in collaboration with Dan Riska [1-4] are reported. The main idea is that beyond the chiral symmetry spontaneous breaking scale light and strange baryons should be considered as systems of three constituent quarks with an effective confining interaction and a chiral interaction that is mediated by the octet of Goldstone bosons (pseudoscalar mesons) between the constituent quarks.
It is shown from rigorous three-body Faddeev calculations that the masses of all 14 lowest states in the $N$ and $Δ$ spectra can be described within a constituent quark model with a Goldstone-boson-exchange interaction plus linear confinement between the constituent quarks.
The interaction mediated by irreducible pion and gluon exchange between constituent quarks is calculated and shown to have a strong tensor component, which tends to cancel the pion exchange tensor interaction between quarks. Its spin-spin component is somewhat weaker than the pion exchange spin-spin interaction, while its central and spin-orbit components are small in comparison to the corresponding single gluon exchange interactions. The combination of the $π-$gluon exchange interaction with the single pion exchange interaction and a weak gluon exchange interaction between constituent quarks …
The semileptonic decays of the lowest-lying double-heavy baryons is treated in a quark model. For the $Ξ_{bb}$, hyperfine mixing in the spin wave function leaves the total rate for decay into the lowest lying daughter baryons essentially unchanged, but changes the relative rates into the $Ξ_{bc}$ and $Ξ_{bc}^\prime$. The same pattern is obtained in the decays of the $Ω_{bb}$. For the $Ξ_{bc}$, this mixing leads to factor of about 17 suppression in the decay rate to the $Ξ_{cc}^*$, and a factor of two suppression in the total decay rate. For the $Ω_{bc}$, the decay to the $Ω_{cc}^*$ is suppress…
The nucleon-nucleon problem is studied as a six-quark system in a nonrelativistic chiral constituent quark model where the Hamiltonian contains a linear confinement and a pseudoscalar meson (Goldstone boson) exchange interaction between the quarks. This hyperfine interaction has a long-range Yukawa-type part, depending on the mass of the exchanged meson and a short-range part, mainly responsible for the good description of the baryon spectra.
