The semileptonic decays of the lowest-lying double-heavy baryons is treated in a quark model. For the $Ξ_{bb}$, hyperfine mixing in the spin wave function leaves the total rate for decay into the lowest lying daughter baryons essentially unchanged, but changes the relative rates into the $Ξ_{bc}$ and $Ξ_{bc}^\prime$. The same pattern is obtained in the decays of the $Ω_{bb}$. For the $Ξ_{bc}$, this mixing leads to factor of about 17 suppression in the decay rate to the $Ξ_{cc}^*$, and a factor of two suppression in the total decay rate. For the $Ω_{bc}$, the decay to the $Ω_{cc}^*$ is suppressed by a factor of more than 30 from the unmixed case, and the total decay rate is decreased to about 40% of the decay rate obtained when mixing is ignored.
We consider the role played by hyperfine mixing in electromagnetic and semileptonic decays of doubly heavy baryons, which give rise to large corrections to the decay widths in both cases.
We evaluate exclusive semileptonic decays of ground-state spin-1/2 doubly heavy charmed baryons. The decays are driven by a $c\to s,d$ transition at the quark level. Our form factors are consistent with Heavy Quark Symmetry constraints. The latter are valid in the limit of infinitely heavy quark mass at zero recoil.
We evaluate semileptonic decays of spin-1/2 and spin-3/2 doubly heavy $cb$ baryons. The decays are driven by a $c\to s,d$ transition at the quark level. We check our results for the form factors against heavy quark spin symmetry constraints obtained in the limit of very large heavy quark masses and near zero recoil.
We present results for exclusive $b\to c$ semileptonic decays of ground state triply-heavy baryons and for semileptonic $c\to s,d$ decays of doubly heavy ground state $cb$ baryons. In both cases, we have derived for the first time heavy quark spin symmetry relations for the hadronic amplitudes near zero recoil. Though strictly valid in the limit of very large heavy quark masses and near zero recoil, they turn out to be reasonable accurate for the whole available phase space in these decays and for the actual heavy quark masses we use. With these relations we have made approximate, but model in…
The decay $D_s^+\to p \bar p e^+ν_e$ with a proton-antiproton pair in the final state is unique in the sense that it is the only semileptonic baryonic decay which is physically allowed in the charmed meson sector. Its measurement will test our basic knowledge on semileptonic $D_s^+$ decays and the low-energy $p\bar p$ interactions. Taking into account the major intermediate state contributions from $η, η', f_0(980)$ and $X(1835)$, we find that its branching fraction is at the level of $10^{-9} \sim 10^{-8}$. The location and the nature of $X(1835)$ state are crucial for the precise determinati…
We present results for exclusive semileptonic decay widths of ground state spin-$1/2$ and spin-$3/2$ $cb$ baryons corresponding to a $c\to s, d$ transition at the quark level. The relevance of hyperfine mixing in spin-1/2 $cb$ baryons is shown. Our form factors are compatible with heavy quark spin symmetry constraints obtained in the infinite heavy quark mass limit.
We show how heavy quark symmetry constraints on doubly heavy baryon semileptonic decay widths can be used to test the validity of different quark model calculations. The large discrepancies in the results observed between different quark model approaches can be understood in terms of a severe violation of heavy quark spin symmetry constraints by some of those models.
The semileptonic decays of $Ω_c$ and $Ω_b$ are treated in the framework of a constituent quark model developed in a previous paper on the semileptonic decays of heavy $Λ$ baryons. Analytic results for the form factors for the decays to ground states and a number of excited states are evaluated. For $Ω_b$ to $Ω_c$ the form factors obtained are shown to satisfy the relations predicted at leading order in the heavy-quark effective theory at the non-recoil point. A modified fit of nonrelativistic and semirelativistic Hamiltonians generates configuration-mixed baryon wave functions from the known m…
We evaluate exclusive semileptonic decays of ground-state spin-1/2 doubly heavy charmed baryons driven by a $c\to s,d$ transition at the quark level. Our results for the form factors are consistent with heavy quark spin symmetry constraints which are valid in the limit of an infinitely massive charm quark and near zero recoil. Only a few exclusive semileptonic decay channels have been theoretically analyzed before. For those cases we find that our results are in a reasonable agreement with previous calculations.
We investigate the role of hyperfine mixing in the electromagnetic decay of ground state doubly heavy $bc$ baryons. As in the case of a previous calculation on $b\to c$ semileptonic decays of doubly heavy baryons, we find large corrections to the electromagnetic decay widths due to this mixing. Contrary to the weak case just mentioned, we find here that one can not use electromagnetic width relations obtained in the infinite heavy quark mass limit to experimentally extract information on the admixtures in a model independent way.
Understanding the properties of the strange $Λ^*$ baryon resonances is a long-standing and fascinating problem. $Λ_c$ charm-baryon semileptonic weak decays to these resonances are highly sensitive to their internal structure and can be used to test theoretical models. We have performed the first lattice-QCD computation of the form factors governing $Λ_c$ semileptonic decays to a $Λ^*$ resonance: the $Λ^*(1520)$, which has negative parity and spin $3/2$. Here we present the resulting Standard-Model predictions of the $Λ_c\toΛ^*(1520)\ell^+ν_\ell$ differential and integrated decay rates as well …
Based on the recent study of the magnetic moments and axial constants within the framework of the chiral quark-soliton model, we investigate the baryon semileptonic decay constants $(f_1,f_2)$ and $(g_1, g_2)$. Employing the relations between the diagonal transition matrix elements and off-diagonal ones in the vector and axial-vector channels, we obtain the ratios of baryon semileptonic decay constants $f_2/f_1$ and $g_1/f_1$. The $F/D$ ratio is also discussed and found that the value predicted by the present model naturally lies between that of the Skyrme model and that of the nonrelativistic…
The semileptonic decays of Lambda_c and Lambda_b are treated in the framework of a constituent quark model. Both nonrelativistic and semirelativistic Hamiltonians are used to obtain the baryon wave functions from a fit to the spectra, and the wave functions are expanded in both the harmonic oscillator and Sturmian bases. The latter basis leads to form factors in which the kinematic dependence on q^2 is in the form of multipoles, and the resulting form factors fall faster as a function of q^2 in the available kinematic ranges. As a result, decay rates obtained in the two models using the Sturmi…
We evaluate static properties and semileptonic decays for the ground state of doubly heavy $Ξ, Ξ', Ξ^*$ and $Ω, Ω', Ω^*$ baryons. Working in the framework of a nonrelativistic quark model, we solve the three--body problem by means of a variational ansazt made possible by heavy quark spin symmetry constraints. To check the dependence of our results on the inter-quark interaction we use five different quark-quark potentials that include a confining term plus Coulomb and hyperfine terms coming from one--gluon exchange. Our results for static properties (masses, charge and mass radii, magnetic mom…
We evaluate masses and semileptonic decay widths for the ground state of doubly heavy $Ξ$ and $Ω$ baryons in the framework of a nonrelativistic quark model. We solve the three-body problem by means of a variational ansatz made possible by heavy-quark spin symmetry constraints. Our masses are comparable to the ones obtained in relativistic calculations and we get one of the best agreements with lattice data. Our simple wave functions are used to evaluate semileptonic decays of doubly heavy $Ξ, Ξ'(J=1/2)$ and $Ω, Ω'(J=1/2)$ baryons. Our results for the decay widths are in reasonable agreement wi…
We present the results of a nonrelativistic constituent quark model study of the semileptonic decays $Λ_b^0 \to Λ_c^+ l^- {\bar ν}_l$ and $Ξ_b^0 \to Ξ_c^+ l^- {\bar ν}_l$. We work on coordinate space, with baryon wave functions recently obtained from a variational approach based on heavy quark symmetry . We develop a novel expansion of the electroweak current operator, which supplemented with heavy quark effective theory constraints, allows us to predict the baryon form factors and the decay distributions for all $q^2$ (or equivalently $w$) values accessible in the physical decays. Our results…
This is basically the update of [arXiv:0809.1869], a review on charmed baryon physics around 2007. Topics of this review include the spectroscopy, strong decays, lifetimes, nonleptonic and semileptonic weak decays, and electromagnetic decays of charmed baryons.
We calculate the decay width for $Λ_b \to Λ_c e {\bar ν}$ in the frame work of a nonrelativistic quark (NRQ) model of heavy baryons where the light quarks play the role of spectators. Our calculation does not make an explicit use of the heavy quark symmetry. The branching ratio for the above process as calculated here agrees reasonably well with the experimental value.
We present the leading-order prediction of baryon chiral perturbation theory for the proton polarizability contribution to the 2S hyperfine splitting in muonic hydrogen, and compare with the results of dispersive calculations.
We study the hydrogen and muonic hydrogen within an effective field theory framework. We perform the matching between heavy baryon effective theory coupled to photons and leptons and the relevant effective field theory at atomic scales. This matching can be performed in a perturbative expansion in alpha, 1/m_p and the chiral counting. We then compute the O(m_{l_i}^3 alpha^5/m_p^2 x logarithms) contribution (including the leading chiral logarithms) to the Hyperfine splitting and compare with experiment. They can explain about 2/3 of the difference between experiment and the pure QED prediction …
The previous analysis of the short-range $NN$ repulsion originating from the Goldstone boson exchange hyperfine interaction between constituent quarks is revisited. We study in which respects the repulsion depends on the radial form of the spin-spin quark-quark force. We show that while the radial form affects the structure of the 6Q wave function, the short-range repulsion in the $NN$ system persists in any case. We extend our analysis to other $YN$ and $YY$ (flavor octet-octet) systems and demonstrate that the flavor-spin hyperfine interaction implies a short-range repulsion in these B=2 sys…
