In this work, the different exchange freedom, one gluon, one pion or Goldstone boson, in constituent quark model is investigated, which is responsible to the hyperfine interaction between constituent quarks, via the combined analysis of the eta production processes, $π^{-}p\rightarrowηn$ and $γp\rightarrowηp$. With the Goldstone-boson exchange, as well as the one-gluon or one-pion exchange, both the spectrum and observables, such as, the differential cross section and polarized beam asymmetry, are fitted to the suggested values of Particle Data Group and the experimental data. The first two types of exchange freedoms give acceptable description of the spectrum and observables while the one pion exchange can not describe the observables and spectrum simultaneously, so can be excluded. The experimental data for the two processes considered here strongly support the mixing angles for two lowest S11 sates and D13 states as about -30 and 6 degree respectively.
Within a chiral constituent quark model approach, $η$-meson production on the proton {\it via} electromagnetic and hadron probes are studied. With few parameters, differential cross-section and polarized beam asymmetry for γp \to ηp$ and differential cross section for $π^- p\to ηn$ processes are calculated and successfully compared with the data in the center-of-mass energy range from threshold up to 2 GeV. The five known resonances $S_{11}(1535)$, $S_{11}(1650)$, $P_{13}(1720)$, $D_{13}(1520)$, and $F_{15}(1680)$ are found to be dominant in the reaction mechanisms in both channels. Possible r…
The constituent quark model based on a hypercentral approach takes into account three-body force effects and standard two-body potential contributions. The quark potential contains a hypercentral interaction, to which a hyperfine term is added. While the hypercentral potential supplies good values for the centroid energies of the resonance multiplets and a realistic set of quark wave functions, the hyperfine splittings are sometimes not sufficient to account for the observed masses. In this work we have introduced an improved form of the hyperfine interaction and an isospin dependent quark pot…
The previous analysis of the short-range $NN$ repulsion originating from the Goldstone boson exchange hyperfine interaction between constituent quarks is revisited. We study in which respects the repulsion depends on the radial form of the spin-spin quark-quark force. We show that while the radial form affects the structure of the 6Q wave function, the short-range repulsion in the $NN$ system persists in any case. We extend our analysis to other $YN$ and $YY$ (flavor octet-octet) systems and demonstrate that the flavor-spin hyperfine interaction implies a short-range repulsion in these B=2 sys…
We investigate the chiral extrapolation of the lattice data for the light-heavy meson hyperfine splittings D^*-D and B^*-B to the physical region for the light quark mass. The chiral loop corrections providing non-analytic behavior in m_πare consistent with chiral perturbation theory for heavy mesons. Since chiral loop corrections tend to decrease the already too low splittings obtained from linear extrapolation, we investigate two models to guide the form of the analytic background behavior: the constituent quark potential model, and the covariant model of QCD based on the ladder-rainbow trun…
Very recent eta and K+ photoproduction data on the proton from threshold up to E = 2.6 GeV are interpreted within a chiral constituent quark formalism, which embodies all known nucleon and hyperon resonances. Possible contributions from an additional S11 resonance are presented.
We discuss the stability of multiquark systems within the recent model of Glozman et al. where the chromomagnetic hyperfine interaction is replaced by pseudoscalar-meson exchange. We find that such an interaction binds a heavy tetraquark system $QQ\bar q\bar q$ ($Q=c, b$ and $q=u, d)$ by $0.2-0.4$ GeV. This is at variance with results of previous models where $cc\bar q\bar q$ is unstable.
We present an extension of the Goldstone-boson-exchange constituent quark model including additional interactions beyond the ones used hitherto. For the hyperfine interaction between the constituent quarks we assume pseudoscalar, vector, and scalar meson exchanges and consider all relevant force components produced by these types of exchanges. The resulting model, which corresponds to a relativistic Poincare-invariant Hamiltonian (or equivalently mass operator), provides a unified framework for a covariant description of all light and strange baryons. The ground states and resonances up to an …
Using a chiral constituent quark approach based on the broken SU(6) \otimes O(3) symmetry, we focus on the spectroscopy of isospin-1/2 nucleonic resonances. A model for the eta photoproduction, embodying all known nucleonic resonances, shows clear need for a yet undiscovered S11 resonance, for which we determine the mass (1.730 GeV) and the total width (180 MeV).
It is pointed out that the third of five low-lying P11 states predicted by a constituent quark model can be identified with the third of four states in a solution from a three-channel analysis by the Zagreb group. This is one of the so-called ``missing'' resonances, predicted at 1880 MeV. The fit of the Zagreb group to the pi N -> eta N data is the crucial element in finding this fourth resonance in the P11 partial wave.
A strongly momentum-dependent dressed-quark mass function is basic to QCD. It is central to the appearance of a constituent-quark mass-scale and an existential prerequisite for Goldstone modes. Dyson-Schwinger equation (DSEs) studies have long emphasised this importance, and have proved that QCD's Goldstone modes are the only pseudoscalar mesons to possess a nonzero leptonic decay constant in the chiral limit when chiral symmetry is dynamically broken, while the decay constants of their radial excitations vanish. Such features are readily illustrated using a rainbow-ladder truncation of the DS…
We investigate the symmetry property and the stability of dibaryons containing two strange quarks and one heavy flavor with $I=\frac{1}{2}$. We construct the wave function of the dibaryon in two ways. First, we directly construct the color and spin state of the dibaryon starting from the four possible SU(3) flavor state. Second, we consider the states composed of five light quarks, and then construct the wave function of the dibaryon by adding one heavy quark. The stability of the dibaryon against the strong decay into two baryons is discussed by using variational method in a constituent quark…
The hyperfine interactions of the constituent quark model provide a natural explanation for many nucleon properties, including the Delta-N splitting, the charge radius of the neutron, and the observation that the proton's quark distribution function ratio d(x)/u(x)->0 as x->1. The hyperfine-perturbed quark model also makes predictions for the nucleon spin-dependent distribution functions. Precision measurements of the resulting asymmetries A_1^p(x) and A_1^n(x) in the valence region can test this model and thereby the hypothesis that the valence quark spin distributions are "normal".
We investigate the properties of dibaryons containing u and d quarks in the constituent quark model. In constructing the ground state wave function, we choose the spatial part to be fully symmetric and the remaining color, isospin and spin part to be antisymmetric so as to satisfy the the Pauli principle. By adapting the IS coupling scheme that combine the isospin basis function with the spin basis function, and subsequently coupling this to the color singlet basis function, we construct the color $\otimes$ isospin $\otimes$ spin states compatible with the physical states of the dibaryon. By u…
In the low-energy regime light and strange baryons should be considered as systems of constituent quarks with confining interaction and a chiral interaction that is mediated by Goldstone bosons as well as by vector and scalar mesons. The flavor-spin structure and sign of the short-range part of the spin-spin force reduces the $SU(6)_{FS}$ symmetry down to $SU(3)_F \times SU(2)_S$, induces hyperfine splittings and provides correct ordering of the lowest states with positive and negative parity. There is a cancellation of the tensor force from pseudoscalar- and vector-exchanges in baryons. The s…
An extensive and systematic study of the recent eta photoproduction data up to 1.2 GeV is presented within a chiral constituent quark model. A model embodying all known nucleonic resonances shows clear need for a yet undiscovered third S11 resonance in the second resonance region, for which we determine the mass (1.729 GeV) and the total width (183 MeV). Furthermore, we extract the configuration mixing angles, an important property of the quark-quark interaction in the quark model, for the resonances S11(1535) and S11(1650), as well as for the resonances D13(1520) and D13(1700). Our results ag…
We discuss recent calculations of the mass spectrum, electromagnetic and strong couplings of baryon resonances. The calculations are done in a collective constituent model for the nucleon, in which the resonances are interpreted as rotations and vibrations of a symmetric top with a prescribed distribution of the charge and magnetization. We analyze recent data on eta-photo- and eta-electroproduction, and the tensor analyzing power in deuteron scattering.
πand ηdecay modes of light baryon resonances are investigated within a chiral quark model whose hyperfine interaction is based on Goldstone-boson exchange. For the decay mechanism a modified version of the 3P0 model is employed. Our primary aim is to provide a further test of the recently proposed Goldstone-boson-exchange constituent quark model. We compare the predictions for πand ηdecay widths with experiment and also with results from a traditional one-gluon-exchange constituent quark model. The differences between nonrelativistic and semirelativistic versions of the constituent quark model…
New physics motivated by muonic puzzles (proton radius and muon $g-2$ discrepancies) is studied. Using a light scalar boson $ϕ$, assuming Yukawa interactions, accounts for these muonic puzzles simultaneously. Our previous work limits the existence of such a scalar boson's mass $m_ϕ$ from about 160 keV to 60 MeV. We improve this result by including the influence of all of the possible particles that couple to the $ϕ$ in computing the decay rate. Doing this involves including the strong interaction physics, involving quarks, necessary to compute the $ηπϕ$ vertex function. The Nambu-Jona-Lasinio …
An implication of the spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking in QCD is that at low energy and resolution there appear quasiparticles - constituent quarks and Goldstone bosons. Thus, light and strange baryons should be considered as systems of three constituent quarks with confining interaction and a chiral interaction that is mediated by Goldstone bosons between the constituent quarks. We show how the flavor-spin structure and sign of the short-range part of the Goldstone boson exchange interaction reduces the $SU(6)_{FS}$ symmetry down to $SU(3)_F \times SU(2)_S$, induces hyperfine splittings a…
eta photoproduction data on the proton up to E=2 GeV are interpreted within a chiral constituent quark formalism, which embodies all known three and four star resonances. This study confirms the need for a new S11 resonance, with M=1.780 GeV and Gamma=280 MeV, already introduced in investigating lower energy data.
Within a chiral constituent quark formalism, allowing the inclusion of all known resonances, a comprehensive study of the recent eta photoproduction data on the proton up to 2 GeV is performed. This study shows evidence for a new S11 resonances and indicates the presence of an additional missing P13 resonance.
Beyond the scale of spontaneous breaking of chiral symmetry light and strange baryons should be considered as systems of three constituent quarks with confining interaction and a chiral interaction that is mediated by Goldstone bosons between the constituent quarks. The flavor-spin structure and sign of the short-range part of the Goldstone boson exchange interaction reduces the $SU(6)_{FS}$ symmetry down to $SU(3)_F \times SU(2)_S$, induces hyperfine splittings and provides correct ordering of the lowest states with positive and negative parity. A unified description of light and strange bary…
Constituent quark models provide a reasonable description of the baryon mass spectra. However, even in the light- and strange-flavor sectors several intriguing shortcomings remain. Especially with regard to strong decays of baryon resonances no consistent picture has so far emerged, and the existing experimental data cannot be explained in a satisfactory manner. Recently first covariant calculations with modern constituent quark models have become available for all pi, eta, and K decay modes of the low-lying light and strange baryons. They generally produced a remarkable underestimation of the…
We calculate S-wave singlet and triplet NN phase shifts stemming from the short-range flavor-spin hyperfine interaction between constituent quarks using the resonating group method approach. A strong short-range repulsion is found in both waves. A fair comparison is performed between the traditional picture, relying on the colour-magnetic interaction, and the present one, relying on the Goldstone boson exchange dynamics. It is shown that the latter one induces essentially stronger repulsion, which is a very welcome feature. We also study a sensitivity of phase shifts and wave function to exten…
We report on a study of pi and eta decays of strange baryon resonances within relativistic constituent-quark models based on one-gluon-exchange and Goldstone-boson-exchange dynamics. The investigations are performed in the point form of Poincare-invariant relativistic quantum mechanics with a spectator-model decay operator. The covariant predictions of the constituent-quark models underestimate the experimental data in most cases. These findings are congruent with an earlier study of nonstrange baryon decays in the light-flavor sector. We also consider a nonrelativistic reduction of the point-…
It is shown that the short-range part of the Goldstone boson exchange interaction between the constituent quarks which explains baryon spectroscopy and the short-range repulsion in the NN system induces a strong short-range repulsion in the flavour-singlet state of the $ΛΛ$ system with $J^P=0^+$. It then suggests that a deeply bound H-particle should not exist. We also compare our approach with other models employing different hyperfine interactions between quarks in the nonperturbative regime of QCD.
Spectrum of low-lying five-quark configurations with strangeness quantum number $S=-3$ and negative parity is studied in three kinds of constituent quark models, namely the one gluon exchange, Goldstone Boson exchange, and instanton-induced hyperfine interaction models, respectively. Our numerical results show that the lowest energy states in all the three employed models are lying at $\sim$1800 MeV, about 200 MeV lower than predictions of various quenched three-quark models. In addition, it is very interesting that the state with the lowest energy in one gluon exchange model is with spin 3/2,…
In a chiral quark model where chiral symmetry is introduced via a non-linear sigma model, we evaluate the axial couplings g_A(0), g_A^8(0) and g_A^0(0 )related to the spin structure of the nucleon. Our calculation includes one-body and two-body axial current and pion absorption operators, which satisfy the Partial Conservation of Axial Current (PCAC) condition. While g_A(0) is dominated by the one-body axial current we find significant corrections due to two-body axial exchange currents in g_A^8(0) and g_A^0(0). Interestingly, the axial current associated with gluon exchange reduces g_A^8(0) f…
We report on investigations of the applicability of non-relativistic constituent quark models to the low-energy nucleon-nucleon (NN) interaction. The major innovations of a resulting NN potential are the use of the $^3$P$_0$ decay model and quark model wave functions to derive nucleon-nucleon-meson form-factors, and the use of a colored spin-spin contact hyperfine interaction to model the repulsive core rather than the phenomenological treatment common in other NN potentials. We present the results of the model for experimental free NN scattering phase shifts, S-wave scattering lengths and eff…
Here we investigate mixing of the low-lying three- and five-quark $Ω$ states with spin-parity quantum numbers $\frac{1}{2}^{-}$ and $\frac{3}{2}^{-}$, employing the quark-antiquark creation triggered by Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (NJL) interaction. Wave functions of the three- and five-quark configurations are constructed using the extended constituent quark model, within which the hyperfine interaction between quarks is also taken to be the NJL interaction induced one. Numerical results show that the NJL-induced pair creation results in vanishing mixing between three- and five-quark $Ω$ configuration…
We apply the point form of relativistic quantum mechanics to develop a Poincare invariant coupled-channel formalism for two-particle systems interacting via one-particle exchange. This approach takes the exchange particle explicitly into account and leads to a generalized eigenvalue equation for the Bakamjian-Thomas type mass operator of the system. The coupling of the exchange particle is derived from quantum field theory. As an illustrative example we consider vector mesons within the chiral constituent quark model in which the hyperfine interaction between the confined quark-antiquark pair …
